Carrie Fisher dies, aged 60: “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly”

Carrie Fisher has passed away aged 60, according to a statement from her daughter Billie Lorde. The actress was best known for her iconic role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies.

The statement, issued to People (opens in new tab), reads:

It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.

Fisher suffered a ‘massive’ heart attack on a flight from London to LA on December 23. At the time she was reportedly removed from the plane in an ‘unresponsive’ state. Paramedics performed CPR and later restored a pulse.

Her brother, Todd Fisher, later issued a statement that she was “out of emergency” and in a stable condition. A message mirrored by her mother, Debbie Reynolds, in a tweet on Christmas Day. Sadly, she later died in hospital.

Our condolences to all.
