BEAUTY & THE BEAST “The Beauty And The Beast Are In All Of Us”

Beauty And The Beast was a big deal back in the ’80s, as Terminator prey Linda Hamilton got wooed by Ron Perlman’s lion man. And now, with the likes of Grimm and Once Upon A Time making fairytales a big deal on the small screen, it’s not really surprising to see the story rebooted by the CW, the network that’s home to Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries .

Smallville ‘s Kristin Kreuk stars alongside Jay Ryan in the new show, and it seems the writers won’t be taking the title too literally. “When the CW first gave us the title, it was just, ‘Here’s a ‘80s show you can recreate it. What do you think?'” explains co-showrunner Sherri Cooper. “Right away we started talking and we could see the billboards like, ‘Who doesn’t want a guy with a little baggage’ or ‘Who doesn’t want a bad boy?’ But then it got deeper and we started talking about what’s a beauty and what’s a beast. We also talked about the economy and Wall Street, we thought maybe we can explore those themes like what’s beauty and beast and they’re both in all of us.”

Beauty And The Beast comes to US screens on the CW on Thursday 11 October. A UK broadcaster is yet to be confirmed. Beauty And The Beast features in the 24-page Awesome TV Preview bonus mini-mag – part of the new issue of SFX , on sale now – alongside all of the big new shows starting between now and Christmas.

To celebrate the preview mag, for the next two weeks we’re going to be running a story from a different show every day on sfx.co.uk – featuring extra content you won’t be able to read in the magazine. Come back tomorrow for Day 13.
