Roberto Orci has provided fans with an update on Star Trek 3 , revealing that the first draft of the script is now complete.
“P & M & I wrote, ‘fade out’ yesterday on first draft,” said Orci, in reference to co-writers John D. Payne and Patrick McKay. “Things are moving.”
The script will now wing its way over to Paramount bosses, and presumably, a decision will soon be made as to whether Orci will direct or not.
Orci had previously intimated that his taking the position would depend on how the studio reacts to the script, although he does admit that he is uniquely well-placed to bring the third film to the big screen.
“If I’m lucky enough that Paramount loves the script and that we go forward, it’ll be because I have loved Star Trek for so long,” explained Orci to Collider , earlier this year.
“Having seen one of the best guys in the business direct two of them already, and to have seen it from the vantage point of a producer too, I know where a lot of the challenges are and where a lot of the fun is.”
Paramount is hoping to release the film in conjunction with the series’ 50th anniversary, and will be aiming to begin filming next year ahead of a 2016 release date.
