Hors Satan review

A nameless drifter murders a troubled young woman’s stepfather – could notoriously difficult French auteur Bruno Dumont ( L’humanité ) be courting the mainstream with a lovers-on-the-run thriller?

Nope.

The couple wanders the wilderness, gazing meaningfully into the distance during often excruciating periods of widescreen inertia.

It’s a challenging watch, redeemed by the possibility that the drifter might be as much Christ as antichrist.

The vagueness won’t win Dumont new fans, but his enigmatic allegory of intertwined good and evil does linger in the mind.
