While the film itself won’t hit screens until next summer, Duncan Jones’ long-anticipated Warcraft adaptation has debuted its first official image. Featuring the iconic orc leader Orgrim Doomhammer, who will at one point wield his namesake weapon, the pic is a reminder that even though the flick got pushed back – it’ll be worth the wait.
Originally slated to land this year, Universal bumped the movie to next summer on account of a lengthy post-production schedule. The mammoth task of generating the CGI-heavy effects required to do the video game franchise justice is thought to be the main reason behind the delay. And based on this image, those skilled SFX artists are earning their keep.
True Blood’s Robert Kazinsky plays Doomhammer, whose bulky stature is evident in both of these new pics. “We were looking for someone who would be able to perform the gruffness, the humor, and the toughness of this character,” Jones told Wired Magazine who debuted the images. Kazinsky’s mo-cap performance was blended with the CGI wizardry of ILM, resulting in a hybridised character not unlike the Hulk from Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
Co-starring Ben Foster, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, Dominic Cooper, Daniel Wu and Clancy Brown Warcraft opens in the US on June 10, 2016.
