European Wii U and 3DS owners may now gawk at 18+ rated eShop titles whenever they darn well feel like it. Eurogamer reports that Nintendo of Europe has finally removed the restrictions which allowed potentially objectionable content to be perused only between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., regardless of the user’s registered age.
The restriction was meant to follow German media regulations but, according to this message posted to the eShop, even the regulators felt it was a bit over the top:
“Following analysis of the Parental Controls system on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in cooperation with USK, the German Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body, it was deemed that Nintendo’s Parental Control system is of very high quality and offers a remarkable level of protection for children. Nintendo’s Parental Control system was found to have proved itself in practice.”
Try not to fall too far into hedonistic cycles of browsing ZombiU screenshots in the daylight.
