Ethan Hawke lines up an untitled horror flick

Ethan Hawke has signed on to an untitled horror movie from Paranormal Activity and Insidious producer Jason Blum.

Scott Derrickson ( The Exorcism Of Emily Rose , The Day The Earth Stood Still ) will direct, presumably pushing his take on the David and Goliath story to the backburner.

With Blum producing, expect this to be a low budget affair favouring creeps over big effects shots, which should hopefully mean we get the Derrickson of Exorcism instead of Earth .

Hawke is an actor who yields extremely mixed results. In the right projects ( Training Day , Gattaca , anything by Richard Linklater) he’s superb, but he has a tendency to pick some absolute stinkers ( Great Expectations , Hamlet and Daybreakers chief among them).

He’s often at his bestl in low budget stuff, so this latest project bodes well.

Hawke’s not exactly short of work at the moment. He recently completed work on a TV version of Moby Dick, and he has wrapped The Woman In The Fifth .

He’s also shooting an unspecified cameo in Len Wiseman’s Total Recall reboot, and since 2002 he has been chipping away on Richard Linklater’s Boyhood , which is being filmed in minor increments over a 12-year period.
