Marvel has cast former time lord David Tennant in their upcoming superhero series, A.K.A. Jessica Jones. Set to appear exclusively on Netflix, the 13-episode series will orbit around a former superhero who opens a detective agency in New York City.
Tennant will play the villainous Zebediah Killgrave opposite Krysten Ritter as the titular ex-superhero. Known by fans The Purple Man, he’s described as “an enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past,” whose appearance will “send shockwaves” through her world.
His quirky Doctor Who charms will no doubt be put on hold as he embraces Killgrave’s supernatural skills that enable him to control people’s minds. For evil, obviously.
The show’s executive producer and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg said “I’m so honored and excited by the prospect of David inhabiting this multifaceted character.
“He can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He’ll make Kilgrave a truly original villain.”
A.K.A. Jessica Jones will arrive sometime later this year.
It is the second of four series to emerge from a deal struck between the comic giants and streaming service Netflix. First is the upcoming Daredevil, with Charlie Cox in the lead role as the blind lawyer-turned-superhero. The Iron Fist and Luke Cage solo series’ are set to land after Jones.
