After a drawn-out courting period Chris Pine and Warner Bros. have settled on which superhero movie the actor is due to appear in. Earlier rumors strongly suggested that Pine was in the running for a part in the leading Green Lantern Corps ensemble, but word from The Wrap confirms that he’s officially struck a deal for Wonder Woman. Pine will star opposite Gal Gadot as her love interest Steve Trevor.
Part of signing with the studio has Pine secured for a multi-picture deal that essentially locks him into tons of future DC movies. This would likely include the direct sequels and bit parts in the Justice League chapters.
In the comics, Trevor is one of Diana Prince’s long-term paramours, who is nursed back to health by the Amazonian after his plane crashes onto Paradise Island during the 1920s. They then fall in love. It’s expected that this would begin the first Wonder Woman movie, with the two sequels bridging the gap between then and now.
Patty Jenkins directs Wonder Woman from a script by Jason Fuchs. It’s scheduled to open in theaters on June 23, 2017.
