Chris Columbus bags the remake rights to Trollhunter

Chris Columbus has acquired the rights to remake Norwegian found-footage thriller Trollhunter .

André Øvredal wrote and directed the 2010 original, which was released in the US just yesterday.

It looks like bags of fun though, as a group of student filmmakers head to the woods to investigate a spate of bear killings.

There they meet a troll hunter, who introduces them to all manner of impressively rendered beasties.

Imagine the mutant offspring of The Blair Witch Project and Jurassic Park , with just a little Guillermo del Toro DNA thrown into the mix, and you’ve got an idea of what to expect.

Columbus said: ” Trollhunter was a visceral, thrilling, cinematic rock and rollercoaster ride of a movie. Visually, there are scenes in this film that American audiences have never seen. We want to introduce an international audience to this amazing moviegoing experience.”

There’s currently no indication whether or not Columbus intends to actually direct the remake, or simply oversee it as a producer.

Columbus is best known as the director of Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter movies, but he also scripted Gremlins and The Goonies , so he knows a thing or two about movie monsters and rip-roaring adventures.
