Remember that massively successful petition for a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remaster (opens in new tab) remaster? Bringing back old Call of Duty games is something its creators “talk about and think about a lot,” according to Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg.
Hirshberg told Game Informer (opens in new tab) that remasters “can be great” if done well, and that many people naturally want to see their favorite old moments spruced up for new hardware. So why aren’t we already riding super-high-res snowmobiles through the Tian Shan mountains?
“It’s always the opportunity cost, meaning we need everybody we can get to make the content we’re already committed to for our new games,” Hirshberg said. “It’s always a matter of finding great people to do that work. I would love to play Modern Warfare 1 or the original Black Ops. There’s certainly a deep well there.”
“Deep well” is right: even if you exclude all the spinoffs and handheld titles, Activision’s still published 11 major Call of Duty games since 2003.
