Richard Linklater and Patricia Arquette also picked up awards for their work on the former, while Eddie Redmayne and Julianne Moore scooped the lead acting awards in the Drama category.
Michael Keaton was recognised as Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical for Birdman, while Amy Adams took the corresponding award for her work in Big Eyes.
