It’s safe to say that AMC’s award-winning ratings darling The Walking Dead is a pioneer in the realm of undead entertainment. Its success continues to spawn additional seasons along with a well-received spin-off; so it’s not entirely unexpected that the cable network might consider adding a third comic book zombie drama to its roster.
The news arrives after Empire of the Dead comic book artist Arthur Suydam spoke out at the Wizard World convention in Kentucky, where he confirmed that not only is the show going ahead but it’s happening on AMC. “The series that I just finished up for Marvel Comics as a matter of fact,” he told WHAS11, “so this is me and George Romero… This just got signed to AMC. This is going to be the new big zombie series on AMC, it’s expected to be this one right here.”
The network has yet to confirm or deny Suydam’s comments, so for now, digest with a touch of salt. It was back in May when news first dropped about the adaptation. In case Romero’s name hadn’t alerted you, the comic is set within the same world as his earlier Dead outings, and therefore won’t interfere with The Walking Dead‘s continuity. The 15-part series published between January 2014 and August 2015 takes place in a world where zombies, vampires and humans begrudgingly co-exist. Romero is reportedly co-writing the TV series with Peter Grunwald.
