As well as the Nintendo NX release date (opens in new tab) announced this morning, the company has also outlined its next two mobile phone games which will be “based on the familiar and beloved Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises”.
While Miitomo is largely a gamified social network, these new titles will “have more prominent game elements” say Nintendo. For example, Fire Emblem will “offer the great value of a role-playing strategy game”, suggesting it’ll be a full thing, albeit a potentially more casual experience.
The Animal Crossing app on the other hand will designed so that it will be “connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems”. That might suggest we could be getting a new Animal Crossing on NX, given the console’s upcoming release date and diplomatic non-mention of Wii U there. “By playing both Animal Crossing games, users will find increased enjoyment”, say Nintendo.
Nintendo also announced that Miitomo now has 10 million unique users worldwide, sharing 300 million conversations and 20 million Miifotos (in-app pics you can take using your Mii, it’s often gone a bit wrong (opens in new tab)). So it’s mobile efforts so far have been a success.
