Live-action X-Men TV series in the pipeline

We could soon be in for a mutant TV takeover as Fox Entertainment is plotting to bring a live-action X-Men series to the small screen.

According to TV Insider, the network intends to enlist 24 producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto and Star Trek 3 writers Patrick McKay and JD Payne to adapt the fan-favourite comic series and film franchise.

Before you channel your inner Quicksilver and start charging around the room in a bespoke pair of goggles, there is one tiny hurdle to overcome before the cameras roll. While Fox’s big screen outlet – 20th Century Fox – owns the film franchise rights, original creator Marvel still holds the comic rights.

In order for the TV adaptation – based on those comics – to go into production the two parties must come to an agreement. One which Fox Entertainment chairman Gary Newman believes to be a strong possibility:

“It’s in negotiations,” Newman says. “We’re cautiously optimistic, we had a good meeting with them. That will not be on a fast track creatively. This is just the deal, now we have to find the creative.”

Newton goes on to estimate that, if all goes well, the X-Men show won’t likely hit our screens until the 2016- 2017 TV season.
