Halloween Returns will resurrect Michael Myers (again)

Earlier this year talk of another Halloween movie suggested that the next go-around for Haddonfield’s most notorious resident would not be a straight-up sequel. Or a reboot. The two writers attached, Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, described the film as a “recalibration”, and according to new reports it will be a “standalone film set to reintroduce audiences to Michael Myers years after his initial rampage.”

Moviehole broke the news, also revealing that the next film in the franchise will be called Halloween Returns. Based on the details included in the report, the film ignores the grittier remake movies by Rob Zombie and the last entry in the franchise proper, 2002’s Halloween Resurrection.

The synopsis included in the report has the film picking up years after the events of the first Halloween, on the eve of Myers’ death row execution. Two Haddonfield teens with a vested interest in his demise – an 18-year old child of one of his victims, and the offspring of a Myers-obsessed cop – break in to watch his final moments. As is often the case, things don’t go to plan and the masked killer breaks free…

The news has stirred up more dirt-digging over at Bloody Disgusting, as the site reports that co-writer Dunstan is also the frontrunner to direct. And while nothing has been officially confirmed by Dimension Films on either front, one thing’s for certain: the knife happy Myers won’t go down without taking a few butchered teens with him.
