Daredevil Season 2 teases another hallway fight scene on crack

The first season of Daredevil rolled out its most talked about sequence two episodes in. ‘Cut Man’ sees Matt Murdock hunt down a crew of thugs who’ve kidnapped a young boy, and take out the entire gang in a glorious fight sequence. Shot in one uninterrupted take, the scene showcases the show’s phenomenal stunt choreography and Murdock’s determination to ensure justice is done.

At a recent Television Critics Association press event (opens in new tab), Daredevil himself Charlie Cox says the upcoming season will somehow outdo that iconic moment. “In terms of this season, there are a number of really good fights. There is one in particular that I’m really excited about because it’s kind of like an homage to that scene, but it’s almost like that scene on crack.”

“I think once you introduce a character like Frank Castle,” adds Jon Bernthal, The Walking Dead alum who joins the show (opens in new tab) as vigilante The Punisher, “once you introduce a character like Elektra (opens in new tab), the stakes are raised a little bit in terms of the fighting. All of the sudden you’re talking about weapons. Different questions are being brought up. I think what is the genius of Phil Silvera, the fight coordinator and stunt coordinator who choreographs these fights, is the fights are all character-driven and the fights tell a story. It’s not just to look pretty or to look cool.”

Looking back on that now-legendary sequence, and the importance of it within the season’s story and character arcs, Cox adds: “There is absolutely an attempt to make sure every punch or kick that is thrown is like a line of dialogue; there is motive behind it, there is reason behind it, it means something. I think the writers do a really, really good job to kind of find these sequences so that they fit the story and so they don’t stick out like a sore thumb.”

Starring Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Elodie Yung, Stephen Rider, Jon Bernthal and Rosario Dawson, Daredevil season two arrives in its entirety on Netflix March 18.
