Adding a cheap Xbox controller to your setup and console gear is a great way to enhance your gaming armoury. A new or extra controller for your Xbox console – this gen or last-gen – is an important acquisition as it adds flexibility and (potentially) a little diversity and quality to your setup.

However, some of the more premium Xbox controllers can get a little pricey, so it pays to do a little deal hunting and find some of the best discounts around. That’s why we’ve got our price comparison software on the job of finding a bargain. Bare in mind sometimes this extra cost is worth it as these controllers are also compatible PC controllers. Not only are we rounding up all the best gamepads you should be getting your hands on, but we’re also bringing you the cheapest Xbox controller deals on the web right now. These prices are updated every half an hour for the absolute best savings available today, so whether you’re after a cheap multiplayer stand-in or a super customizable pro device you’ll always get the best deal possible.

These cheap Xbox controllers are all compatible with both Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S. That means you’ll be able to grab one of the best Xbox One accessories and best Xbox Series X accessories no matter what generation you’re still rolling with.

1. Xbox Core Wireless controller

The new Xbox Series X controller is also compatible with the Xbox One, so if you’re looking for a more comfortable grip, textured triggers, and a hybrid D-pad on the previous generation, you’re in luck. You’re getting a far more ergonomic experience with the new redesign, and prices are often a little lower than the previous model as well.

Not only that, but the new share button will work across both generations as well. With the Xbox Series X came a new generation of the best Xbox controllers. This is still a AA battery operated piece of equipment, but the new play and charge kit also offers up USB-C charging as well.

2. PowerA Enhanced Wired Xbox Controller

If you don’t want to break $40 you can still pick up an excellent cheap Xbox controller. The PowerA Enhanced series offers plenty of different color options as well as compatibility across both Xbox One and Xbox Series X. That’s perfect if you’re after a quick stand-in, or a more affordable third player gamepad.

You’re also picking two additional buttons which can easily be remapped, dual rumble motors, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Share button and volume dial built in. That means all the functionality of the new Series X controller with a much lower price tag. The main sacrifice here is that wired connection, though.

3. Xbox One Wireless Controller

Want a standard, ‘normal’, no-fuss Xbox One controller? This is it. The wireless handset pictured above is just like the one packaged with every Xbox console, and we’ve rustled up the best deals for it below.

Because Microsoft are unmatched when it comes to alternate designs, we’ve been sure to include a variety of different colors and patterns as well. All of them are compatible with the Xbox One console and other Xbox One accessories you might have.

Just remember, you’ll need a pair of AA batteries or a Play and Charge Kit to power your shiny new controller. You’ll find more info on the latter further down the page, accompanied by the lowest prices available.

To see what different controller options are in stock at the moment, click on the relevant drop-down in the widget below.

1. Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2

The Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 is Microsoft’s all-singing, all-dancing ode to the competitive scene. As a follow-up to the already-brilliant Elite Controller, this peripheral had the odds stacked against it; the original was perfect already, so why invest in a new one? The Elite Series 2 gives more than a few reasons.

To begin with, it has a new trigger, bumper, and handle design built for superior grip. This is followed by three built-in custom profiles, increased battery life, Bluetooth functionality, and a detachable charging dock that’s built into the controller’s carry case. Like its predecessor, it’s highly adaptable as well; both thumbsticks and the D-Pad can be replaced with performance-targeted alternatives, the shoulder buttons can be fine-tuned with a hair-trigger lock that shortens travel, and the four back paddles give access to face button inputs without having to move your fingers an inch.

It’s expensive, but you’re paying for quality. You’re also paying for improved performance – this handset will have you reacting faster than you ever could on a standard Xbox One controller. Note: Microsoft has stopped making the series 1 version now, so this is the Elite one to shop for.

2. Razer Wolverine Ultimate

Hardware giant Razer throws its hat into the pro controller ring with the Wolverine Ultimate. Like everything else they do, it’s of the highest quality and earns the larger price tag.

Boasting fancy Chroma lighting that changes while you play, interchangeable thumbsticks and d-pads, four back buttons so you don’t have to reach for the face buttons, and two extra shoulder buttons, it aims to have everything in reach without you needing to lift your thumbs from the sticks. The face buttons are super responsive too by ditching the squishy buttons of old for a very satisfying click with minimal travel.

It’s aggressively targetting Microsoft’s latest Elite Series 2 controller with similar pricing and features and the Wolverine Ultimate justifies that by giving you the undeniable precision, quality, and pizazz of the Razer brand.

Razer Wolverine Tournament Edition

3. Razer Wolverine Tournament Edition

The Razer Wolverine Tournament Edition is priced around $119/£119 so we’re holding it to a higher standard of testing, especially against the excellent Wolverine Ultimate which is packed with features, albeit at a higher price too.

The Wolverine Tournament Edition feels great in the hands and we love the extra shoulder buttons. Equally pleasing is the way the two rear paddles are tucked away modestly enough to ensure accidental touches are kept to a minimum and you don’t have to adjust your usual grip to use them, they’re just…ready. You’ve also got the lockable trigger switches from the Ultimate so you can have less travel on LT/RT too if you want.

However, the lack of swappable analog sticks and d-pads is disappointing for this price. As is the lack of an on-board button to change button mapping on the fly without having to revert back to the Xbox app. The face buttons are really stiff too, with a heavier and longer touch required compared to the instant reactions of the Wolverine Ultimate and even the standard Xbox One controller. We’d wait for a lower sale price, or better yet if your budget will allow it, pick up the excellent Razer Wolverine Ultimate we mentioned earlier in this guide instead.

Play and Charge Kit

Xbox One controller cheap

©Microsoft

If you’re fed up of burning through disposable AA batteries for your controller, the Play and Charge Kit will become your new best friend. This handy accessory gives you up to 30 hours of wireless play, and it’s rechargeable to ensure longevity.

It’s easy to use, too. Simply slot it into the AA battery slot on the back of your controller and away you go. When it starts to run low on juice, just plug in the cable provided and carry on playing.

Basically? The Play and Charge Kit is an essential purchase if you’re new to Xbox One.

Are cheap Xbox controllers compatible with PC?

Is the Xbox controller compatible with PC? Absolutely. It’s a relatively hassle-free process; you can either plug the controller into a USB port with your charging cable (a standard USB to micro-USB cable), connect via Bluetooth, or use an official Wireless Adaptor for Windows 10. However, be aware that you can only use the Bluetooth function if your controller was made after 2016.

Post-2016 models have the Xbox button as part of the main controller ‘face’ (e.g. the plastic around the Xbox button is matte and part of the main shell). Controllers made beforehand feature the Xbox button on a separate, shiny plastic strip that’s connected to the bumpers.

As discussed above, going wireless on PC with older Xbox One controllers (or PCs without Bluetooth capability) requires the official Wireless Adaptor. This isn’t too expensive and is relatively easy to get hold of.

You’ll find the cheapest prices listed here.

If you’re after more gear, we’re also rounding up all the best Xbox steering wheels available now, and showing you how to find Xbox Series X restocks and Xbox Series S bundles if you’re still without the current-gen console. Of course, we’re also showing you all the latest Xbox Live deals and the best Xbox Series X external hard drives as well.

1. Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller Series 2

The best premium controller for Xbox One

Specifications

Connection: Bluetooth, USB-CCustomization: Thumbsticks, trigger locks, 4 paddles, D-PadAudio: 3.5mmWeight: 345gBattery: Rechargeable, up to 40 hours

Reasons to buy

+Excellent industrial design+Programmable buttons+Additional rear buttons

Reasons to avoid

-Cheaper competitors are starting to offer the same features

If you want precision and exceptionally high build-quality, you want the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2. With programmable buttons, back paddles, and thumbsticks that can be swapped for performance-targeted alternatives, this is one of the best Xbox One controllers available. It’s also an improvement on the original Elite in almost every way.

We found that most of these improvements were on the software side. Sure, you’re picking up a more durable piece of kit, and we were particularly enamored with the textured surface that now spans the whole grip, but it’s the under-the-hood customization that really wowed us. We were able to completely remap the entire gamepad, all with a new slew of input options. Add the ability to tweak individual analog stick tension and lower travel distance in each button and the whole thing feels far more premium than the original model.

Needless to say, this superb device builds on all the excellent qualities of the standard Xbox One wireless controller (namely the excellent d-pad and responsive shoulder buttons) while adding a huge amount of customization options and additional features along the way. The clicky rear paddles are fantastic, a great way to rebind controls that normally live on the d-pad to a spot you can reach without having to lift off the analog sticks, and being able to swap the function of literally every button means you can tailor the Elite to suit your personal play style. It looks, feels, and plays like a truly premium controller, and even tops our roundup of the best controllers for PC gaming (opens in new tab).

Reasons to buy

+Reliable Razer build+Interchangeable thumbsticks and d-pads+Onboard media controllers

Reasons to avoid

-Pricey

If you fancy a pro controller and are open to the idea of buying from third-party manufacturers, Razer’s Wolverine Ultimate is a very respectable choice. Razer produces a whole roster of Xbox One accessories and this entry is a high-quality handset decked out with a lot of cool features. Additionally, it’s a bit more versatile than Microsoft’s Elite Series 2.

Besides interchangeable thumbsticks and d-pads, the Wolverine Ultimate also throws in four extra back buttons and two bonus shoulder buttons so you never have to take your thumbs off the sticks. That’s a huge advantage in shooters – you can respond a few milliseconds faster than your opponent.

Meanwhile, eye-catching Razer Chroma lighting helps it stand out even more. The onboard media controllers are a nice touch as well.

+The latest official controller+New high speed connection+Regularly discounted

-Lacks customizable features

With the Xbox Series X came a new generation of the best Xbox controllers. The new Wireless controller (dubbed the Core in some stores) offers up a far more tactile experience as well as a super-fast connection, button mapping, better ergonomic grip, and a hybrid D-pad. This is still a AA battery operated piece of gear, but of course you’ll find more Xbox One accessories to fix that.

The new Xbox controller is also directly compatible with Xbox One, which means you can still make the most of new share features as well. You’ll receive one Xbox controller with your console, but picking up a second one is a must for anyone looking to get some couch play going.

1. WD 4TB My Passport Portable

The best external hard drive for Xbox

Specifications

Capacity: 1TB – 5TBConnection: USB 3.2 Gen 1Dimensions: 4.2 x 3.0 x 0.8 inch

Reasons to buy

+Huge storage capacity+Trusted brand at a great price+Good speeds

Reasons to avoid

-Slightly short connector cord

While there may be a good amount of memory on an Xbox, it’ll run out sooner than you think. This is why an external hard drive is one of the most important Xbox One accessories to consider. Our pick here – WD’s 4TB My Passport Portable – will sort all of your storage problems, and sits at the top of our guide to the best Xbox One external hard drives.

Gaming’s hunger for storage is growing at a frightening pace, pushing up to 100GB or beyond for the latest triple-A titles. And that voraciousness only grows when you factor in digital add-ons and DLC, not to mention the huge number of patches and updates that modern games all require. Finding space to fit more than a handful of games on the included drive in your Xbox is becoming more and more of a chore, so grab a huge 4TB drive and put your storage anxieties to bed.

Reasons to buy

+Great price+Small and slick+Different colors available

Reasons to avoid

-Standard HDD speed

This flashy little number from Toshiba is a great choice if you’d like to save a bit of cash; it’s handsome, doesn’t require an additional power source, and will plug straight into the Xbox’s USB port. And even though you’re not getting masses of memory, it’s enough to supplement your console.

More importantly, the Canvio Advance has a read and write speed to match the best HDDs on the market. Crucially, it’s often available at or below $50 / £50 – an absolute steal for what you’re getting.

1. SteelSeries Arctis 9X

The best Xbox headset

Specifications

Acoustic design: Closed BackCable length: 4.3ft / 1.3mDrivers: 40mmWeight: 13 ozCompatibility: Xbox One, PS4, PC, Switch, Mac, Mobile

Reasons to buy

+Dual-wireless connectivity+Exceptional sound quality+Long-lasting comfort+Optional wired support

Reasons to avoid

-Somewhat garish headband-Mic isn’t detachable

Want the very best Xbox One headset (opens in new tab)? You want the SteelSeries Arctis 9X. Specially engineered to run wirelessly on the console, it offers superb audio to go with its very respectable battery-life. Because of that trademark SteelSeries headband, this is also a headset you can use for hours without getting uncomfortable – it’s fairly light at 1.2lbs / 372g.

Of course, we all expect excellent audio from a premium piece of kit like this, but the SteelSeries Arctis 9X stood out in our testing for another reason; connectivity. You’re able to connect via Bluetooth and Xbox Wireless at the same time here – perfect for keeping in touch with your phone or music while playing. In our testing, everything was as streamlined as advertized, and we never encountered any interference or connection drops.

We were a little disappointed that the included mic, while being clear and accurate, was retractable rather than removable. It’s a small design gripe, but one that shows just how far this headset is ingrained in its gaming use. Such a feature, along with the green lines etched into the headband, mean this headset won’t exactly fit right in on your commute.

However, just a little further down that headband, you’ll find some seriously comfortable cups. The sweat-resistant nylon “AirWeave” cushions have been touted to improve airflow by SteelSeries, and we agree. In all our Apex Legends rages, we never felt pinching or a sense of clammy claustrophobia from these cups, and longer sessions were a breeze because of it.

Overall, then? This is a great choice if you’re looking for a high-quality gaming headset for Xbox.

2. Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2

The best Xbox One headset for comfort seekers

Specifications

Acoustic design: Closed Back, over earDrivers: 50mm NanoclearWeight: 382gCompatibility: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC

Reasons to buy

+Doubles battery life from the previous generation+Incredibly comfortable +Great microphone accuracy

Reasons to avoid

-Might be a tight fit for some

The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 improves upon previous iterations in a number of ways. From improved memory foam cushions with Aerofit cooling to larger drivers capable of pumping out some incredible sound, these are one of the best Xbox One accessories on the market right now.

The comfort adjustments mean you’ll be covered for long play sessions here without any ear pinching or frustration for those who wear glasses. There’s some serious bass to contend with here, which offers up a pounding accompaniment to more fast-paced action experiences. Plus, you’re getting Superhuman Hearing mode to emphasize those finer details in online shooters.

Turtle Beach claims a solid 20 hours of battery life on a single charge here, and in our initial testing sessions, there was still gas in the tank after 16 hours so we’re comfortable that real-world use is up to standard. We were also impressed by the microphone’s ability to capture higher tones and replicate them without making voices sound tinny; something that we regularly run into with similarly priced models.

The overall design of the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 also lends itself better to those who don’t want that overt ‘gamer’ aesthetic. Thankfully, there’s a far more subtle design here, and we appreciated the swap from Xbox green accents to platinum silver.

Thanks to gel-cooled ear cushions, and a roomy headband, we were most impressed by the longevity of the comfort here. Longer testing sessions didn’t pose any threats to these luxurious cups, leaving us to concentrate on the Apex Legends at hand.

3. Microsoft Xbox Wireless Headset

The best official Xbox headset

Specifications

Acoustic design: Closed backDrivers: 40mmWeight: 312gComaptibility: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC

Reasons to buy

+Great bass and surround sound+Great price+Clear mic for mutiplayer

Reasons to avoid

-Mic monitoring could be better-Might be too small for larger heads

Microsoft has launched its own headset, the official Xbox Wireless headset for both Xbox Series X and Xbox One. Not only does it offer a high quality audio experience with the comfort to match, but it manages to pack all those features in to a simply $99 / £89 price tag as well. You’ll find this model at the top of our guide to the best Xbox Series X headsets, but it’s fully compatible with the older model as well.

Official Xbox accessories can be hit and miss, by the very virtue that they’re often the first to be released alongside a console and can therefore miss out on crucial development time once players have their boxes set up. However, in all our testing we couldn’t fault this set for its value offering. That’s a particularly low price point compared to the rest of the premium market, and you’re still getting some solid performance and features packed in.

In truth, we were expecting the Xbox Wireless headset to follow the traditional route of official accessories; offering simple functionality and sub-par audio quality, while relying on its brand name to see it through early sales. However, we were impressed by the out of the box quality in our own testing, noting how these cups were particularly adept at handling wider soundscapes like those of Red Dead Redemption 2, for example. There’s detailed surround sound in here, and a surprising clarity.

Like the SteelSeries Arctis 9X, the Xbox Wireless headset also offers dual-connectivity via Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth to boot. That’s a seriously tempting feature on this spec sheet, especially at a mid-range price point.

Xbox One Subscriptions

Microsoft’s subscription services offer some of the absolute best Xbox One accessories out there. However, there are plenty of ways to get around their monthly prices. You’ll find all the latest Xbox Live Gold deals and Xbox Game Pass deals just below.

1. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate

If you’re planning to pick up Xbox Game Pass, it’s worth considering the ‘Ultimate’ version. Although this one’s a little more expensive, it gets you Xbox Game Pass for consoles, Xbox Live Gold, and Xbox Game Pass for PC. That’s exceptional value for money when you take into account the sheer volume of games you’re getting and that’s exactly what makes it one of the best Xbox One accessories going. It also means you don’t have to worry about picking up Xbox Live for your online gaming needs.

To save you a bit of cash, we’ve listed the most up-to-date reductions on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate below.

2. Xbox Live Gold

Xbox Live Gold

You won’t get far without Xbox Live, so it definitely earns the top spot on this list. Want to venture into online multiplayer by yourself or with friends? You can forget it without this subscription service. We’d recommend picking up the 12-month membership as a result – that’s the best value for money in the long term.

There are other benefits to take advantage of outside multiplayer, too; members of Xbox Live get access to regular discounts. They also receive free games each month via the ‘Games with Gold’ initiative. That in itself makes the price tag worth paying.

How we test Xbox One accessories

Xbox One accessories aren’t exactly a dying breed. Thanks to the fact that Xbox Series X gear can also be used on the previous generation, there’s still plenty of kit to sort through. However, if we’re recommending a product for Xbox One you can bet that we’ve tested it on that console specifically. We’re yet to come across an Xbox Series X gadget that doesn’t work as advertized on an older system, but the threat still lurks. That’s why we test everything across both consoles, and PC where appropriate, to make sure you’re getting the best value for money possible.

Beyond that, you can find out exactly how we test gaming headsets and how we test controllers with our dedicated guides – and find out how we make all our recommendations with the full GamesRadar+ Hardware Policy.

Sony expects Microsoft to keep Activision Blizzard-developed games multiplatform, it’s stated.

Earlier today on January 20, a Sony spokesperson said as much to the Wall Street Journal (opens in new tab). “We expect that Microsoft will abide by contractual agreements and continue to ensure Activision games are multiplatform,” the spokesperson told the outlet.

This is obviously a massive question that was immediately on the mind of players worldwide, when Microsoft announced the forthcoming acquisition of Activision Blizzard earlier this week. It was entirely possible that the company would make games like Call of Duty or Crash Bandicoot exclusive to Xbox platforms, cutting out PlayStation players entirely.

Several pieces of information could contradict this, though, including the new statement from Sony on contractual agreements. Firstly, Xbox boss Phil Spencer stress that the acquisition isn’t meant to “pull communities away” from PlayStation platforms. Secondly, one analyst believes that Call of Duty exclusivity for Xbox would make the acquisition “hard to get past regulators.”

Microsoft has a history of abiding by existing contractual agreements. When the company announced the acquisition of Bethesda parent company Zenimax back in 2020, Microsoft made it clear that they would follow the deals in place for Arkane’s Deathloop and Tango’s Ghostwire: Tokyo on PS5, for example.

However, it’s also reserved other upcoming Bethesda-developed games for Xbox platforms, revealing the upcoming Starfield to be an exclusive for Xbox and PC platforms, stamping out the possibility of a PlayStation launch. It’s still incredibly early days for the new acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, and it even remains to be seen whether the deal will actually receive the approval of regulators, but for now we’ll have to wait and see what Microsoft ultimately does with Activision Blizzard’s extensive catalog of games.

Here’s what the new acquisition by Microsoft could mean for Activision Blizzard games and studios.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said he would love to be able to ban users across different platforms however admits that it would be “a hard one” to do.

In an interview with The New York Times (opens in new tab), the Xbox president said: “Something I would love us to be able to do – this is a hard one as an industry – is when somebody gets banned in one of our networks, is there a way for us to ban them across other networks?” Meaning, Spencer proposes, that if you ban a player on one online gaming platform, they will also be banned on another.

Admitting that this would be a difficult thing to achieve in the industry, Spencer also suggests the idea of creating a “banned user list” which players can take to other platforms. He goes on to explain: “I’d love to be able to bring them to other networks where I play. So this is the group of people that I choose not to play with. Because I don’t want to have to recreate that in every platform that I play video games on.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Phil Spencer also praised Netflix for its “smart” approach to the gaming industry, saying that: “I think it’s smart what [Netflix] is doing. They’re buying some studios. They’re learning about the creative process of interactive entertainment. And I think it’s a very smart way for them to move into the space.”

A smaller Xbox Series X and S expansion card may open up the console’s storage options soon.

Xbox Squad (opens in new tab), a French Xbox news site, says it caught word of a new official expansion card on the way (as spotted by VGC (opens in new tab)) and it even shared an image of a store listing for the new card on French gaming retailer Micromania. The image lists the price of the 500 GB card as €154.99 (roughly $180 or £130) and says its release date is set for November 14, 2021.

Those converted prices aren’t a whole lot less than the standard 1TB Seagate Storage Expansion Card, which currently sells for $220 / £220 as its standard price. However, it’s worth remembering that manufacturer prices often vary quite a bit between regions even beyond accounting for their currencies.

More options for storage expansion cards is a good thing, because right now they’re the only way you can make more room for Xbox Series X games on your console without needing to archive them on an external drive. You can play previous generation Xbox games straight from a standard external drive if you prefer, but new-gen Xbox games require faster storage to function.

Assuming this 500GB drive is legitimate, hopefully that means Microsoft and its partners are working on bigger storage options too – you can never have too many games installed at once.

Make sure you check out our guide to the best games on Xbox Game Pass so you can start filling up all your storage with only the finest free-with-your-subscription gaming experiences, and then get more to spare with our guide to the best Xbox Series X external hard drives.

Update:  When we reached out about buying the Pride 2021 controller, we were told that while the controller is not on sale, some will be gifted to select LGBTQIA+ creators and media in recognition of their contributions to the gaming space.

Original Story: The Xbox Pride 2021 celebrations have begun, and there’s tons of ways to get involved this year – I just can’t help but wonder why the Pride Series X controller isn’t available for purchase?

Microsoft has revealed a brand-new Pride collection that features Xbox, Halo, and Psychonauts-branded swag in a variety of Pride-themed designs. One design features the Xbox circle logo with a bunch of different Pride flags within it, including the transgender pride flag, the nonbinary pride flag, the intersex pride flag, the modern pride flag, and many more.  I’m partial to the Master Chief helmet with the pride flags in his visor, but there are plenty of great options.

However, myself and other community members noticed that the Pride 2021 Xbox Wireless Controller is only available as a gift for “key influencers and media in the US and internationally”, not for purchase. That’s definitely a bummer, as it’s a gorgeous controller that any member of the LGBTQIA+ community would love to own. We’ve reached out to Xbox for comment on the controller’s status, and will update this story accordingly.

Ok but this Pride-themed Xbox controller is really awesome ✨Make it available to purchase plz 👀 https://t.co/D1GzPkwOcp pic.twitter.com/AlEw6ASrYFJune 1, 2021

Unbuyable controllers aside, Microsoft is doing a lot more for Pride 2021, including making a $150,000 donation to LGBTQIA+ nonprofits and highlighting stories of Team Xbox and Microsoft members. You can read more of their stories here (opens in new tab). There’s also a 2021 Forza Rainbow livery available in Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Motorsport 7, as well as a Pride nameplate for Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

You can earn Microsoft Rewards points for donation to organizations that support LGBTQIA+ communities directly through Xbox, and any donations made through June will be matched by Microsoft. The organizations include The Trevor Project, which is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention for LGBTQ youth; OutRight Action International, which works at national, regional, and international levels to advance human rights; and Transgender Law Center, which advocates for changes to law and policy to protect people of all gender identities and expressions.

Dontnod’s Tell Me Why is free to keep on Xbox and PC this month as part of Microsoft’s Pride month celebrations. Tell Me Why stars trans protagonist Tyler Ronan, so it’s a great opportunity to celebrate LGBTQIA+ representation in games. And Xbox’s Twitch channel (opens in new tab) will host takeovers throughout the month of June featuring creators and devs from the LGBTQIA+ community.

Microsoft has issued an update of every Xbox console exclusive scheduled to release in 2021.

“2021 will be a fantastic year to be an Xbox fan,” Microsoft explained in a blog on the official Xbox website (opens in new tab) (thanks, VG24/7 (opens in new tab)). “The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S have launched, so we’re officially going full steam ahead into the next generation of gaming. Catch ya later, 2020!

“In 2021, creators around the world will tap deeper into the power of Xbox Series X|S and bring a massive variety of content to Xbox players. We anticipate this to be the most exciting generation yet for developers and players alike, with something for every kind of gamer.”

The blog then details all that’s “in store, both from our talented partners and our creative teams at Microsoft”, listing all console exclusives coming to Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.

The full list of 2021 releases includes Adios, The Artful Escape, The Ascent, The Big Con, CrossfireX, Dead Static Drive, Echo Generation, ExoMecha, Exo One, The Gunk, Halo Infinite, The Last Stop, Lake, Little Witch in the Woods, The Medium, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Psychonauts 2, RPG Time, Sable, Scorn, She Dreams Elsewhere, Shredders, Song of Iron, Tunic, Twelve Minutes, Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy, Warhammer 40K: Darktide, Way to the Woods, and finally, The Wild at Heart.

Microsoft boss Phil Spencer recently told Xbox fans that the company is “working as hard as it can” (opens in new tab) to create enough Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles to satisfy demand. As you all know, chances to buy an Xbox Series X (opens in new tab) have been hard to come by of late.

“I get some people, ‘why didn’t you build more? Why didn’t you start earlier? Why didn’t you ship them earlier?’ I mean, all of those things,” Spencer said.“It’s really just down to physics and engineering. We’re not holding them back. We’re building them as fast as we can. We have all the assembly lines going. I was on the phone last week with Lisa Su at AMD, ‘how do we get more?’ So it’s something that we’re constantly working on. But it’s not just us: gaming has really come into its own in 2020.

There’s a lot to get excited about in gaming this year. Here are the upcoming games of 2021 (opens in new tab) we really just can’t wait for.

Xbox could offer a “family” plan for Xbox Game Pass, according to a tweet from Xbox boss Phil Spencer.

In the exchange below on Twitter, Spencer replies to a user asking if the company would consider a “family” subscription plan for Xbox Game Pass, similar to Spotify’s feature. “It’s something we’d like to do,” Spencer replies. “For multiple family members with consoles a family plan would help.”

We have. It’s something we’d like to do. There is Home console feature for one console household but for multiple family members with consoles a family plan would help. Really appreciate the feedback.December 9, 2020

Obviously, Xbox Game Pass doesn’t currently offer a package for households with multiple Xbox consoles, including the Xbox Series X. The service is offered strictly on a single-console basis, as a purchase of Xbox Game Pass is tied exclusively to a single Xbox account, and one Xbox account can’t be used on multiple consoles at once.

The example that the Twitter user above puts forth is that of Apple and Spotify’s family plans. These two music streaming giants both have family plans which allow multiple users to stream music under the same account, from multiple devices at exactly the same time. The same family plan exists on other streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime for movies and TV shows.

There’s no doubting Xbox Game Pass as one of the best-value deals in gaming at the moment. Adding in a family plan to the service that offers hundreds of games under one monthly subscription fee would be one hell of a bonus for households with multiple consoles, or for groups that want to spread the cost of Game Pass across several users. This obviously isn’t confirmation from Microsoft that they plan on introducing the feature for Xbox Game Pass, but it’s still a positive sign that Spencer and the team at Xbox are actively discussing a family plan.

There might be hundreds upon hundreds of games included with Xbox’s ambitious streaming service, but for our pick of the very best games on offer, you can head over to our guide on the best Xbox Game Pass games for more. We’ve also rounded up the latest Xbox Game Pass deals.

The ID@Xbox Summer Game Fest demo event is live now, bringing a selection of more than 70 games to try for free to your Xbox console.

The weeklong event began today and will run through July 27, with more and more demos steadily appearing as the selection gets rolling. All you need to do to play them is head to your Xbox Dashboard and find the game demos section, download your favorites, and jump in.

You have 74 games to pick from just to get started, which may be enough to give you a serious case of analysis paralysis. Personally, I’d recommend you start with either Skatebird (opens in new tab) or Panzer Paladin; the former because it’s a game about an adorable skateboarding bird, and the latter because it’s a game about a robot piloting a bigger robot from the makers of Flinthook (opens in new tab).
