The first clip from X-Men: Days Of Future Past has arrived online, in which Mystique infiltrates Boliver Trask’s briefing on his latest anti-mutant gadget.

The fact that said gadget is a Mutant Finder means that her cover doesn’t last for long, but by that point, she’s already where she needs to be to raise some hell…

Wolverine has his claws, Magneto his metal-manipulating powers, but Mystique? Well she just kicks ass with her bare hands…

It’s a scene that’s reminiscent of the explosive Nightcrawler assault on the Oval Office from X:2 , which is certainly no bad thing. No wonder poor old Trask is cowering in that corner.

Directed by Bryan Singer and co-starring Jennifer Lawrence, Peter Dinklage and Hugh Jackman, X-Men: Days Of Future Past will open in the UK on 22 May 2014.

In issue 218 of Total Film magazine , director Bryan Singer has hit back at criticisms regarding the ginormous cast of X-Men: Days Of Future Past (opens in new tab) .

Inside the issue – which is available for just £1.99 on your iPad (opens in new tab) – Singer revealed that he’s not worried about the size of his cast, which includes the likes of Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and many (many) more.

“I wanted a full cast,” he tells TF , “but I didn’t want it to feel forced. We wanted to make it feel organic, not take a ‘kitchen sink’ approach but bring together characters with interesting powers.”

He adds: “The movie has a lot of humour at the beginning, then as the stakes grow, it gets darker and darker…”

X-Men: Days Of Future Past opens in UK cinemas on 22 May 2014.

Bryan Singer has been discussing X-Men: Apocalypse in a fascinating new interview in which he divulges several nuggets of info about the planned sequel to X-Men: Days Of Future Past .

“I’m co-writing the story and I’m producing it,” says Singer. “I’m negotiating to direct. We’re in the process. We’re trying to figure it out, schedules… My desire would be to direct it.”

As for how the film will fit into the existing X-Men saga, Singer says that it will be set up by Days Of Future Past , which may or may not contain an overt tease for the follow-up…

“I’m still deciding,” says Singer when asked about a potential Apocalypse sting in the forthcoming film. “Something that happens in this movie causes what’s going to happen in that movie.”

“It will also address historical mutantcy,” he continues, “meaning the deep past, mutant origins and things like that. It’s something that’s always intrigued me when we think about our Gods and our history and miracles and powers.”

We can’t wait. In the meantime, there’s Days Of Future Past to savour first, with that film set to open in the UK on 22 May 2014.

In other X-news, actor Evan Jonigkeit confirmed to MTV (opens in new tab) that he’ll be playing Toad in Days Of Future Past. The character was previously played by Ray Park in the first installment of the franchise, and suffered the indignity of being on the receiving end of one of the most excruciatingly delivered lines of dialogue in superhero movie history (the one about being struck by lightning).

Bryan Singer has posted a new image from the set of X-Men: Days Of Future Past , revealing a first look at a full-scale Sentinel in all its glory.

While we were treated to a glimpse of a Sentinel in the recent viral video promoting Trask Industries , it was difficult to get enough sense of scale to work out just how imposing they would be.

The new image certainly allays any fears that the new model is more diminuitive than its forebears, with the giant robot towering over Singer. It’s also refreshing to see what looks like an enormous practical model, in this day an age of CGI ubiquity.

The Sentinels represent the height of anti-mutant technology, and are used to exterminate or imprison mutantkind in the film’s future timeline. As you can see from that hand-mounted chain-gun, they mean business.

Directed by Singer and co-starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, X-Men: Days Of Future Past will open in the UK on 22 May 2014.

Fox has yet to conduct its official panel at this year’s Comic-Con, but the more eagle-eyed attendee will already have spotted a new reveal from X-Men: Days Of Future Past .

A new booth has sprung up outside the convention centre sporting the Trask Industries logo, where a disembodied robot head gives us our first glimpse of the Sentinels.

For those of you not up on the comic-books, the Sentinels are a fleet of giant robot enforcers, charged with hunting down and detaining mutants, and more often than not, killing them.

A new viral website has also been set up over at www.trask-industries.com , sporting the vaguely menacing slogan, “join us to celebrate 50 years of human progress”.

We know that Peter Dinklage will be playing the Sentinels’ villainous inventor, Boliver Trask, and hopefully we’ll see even more of his robotic creations at the official Fox panel.

Ever since Brian Singer picked up the reins on X-Men: Days Of Future Past , we’ve heard whispers and rumours concerning which of his original X-Men he might be able to talk into reappearing.

Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are in place to reappear, while Hugh Jackman has already confirmed he’s a definite. However, according to Jackman, we might be in for much more than that…

“You wouldn’t have enough room on the page after you’ve listed them all,” revealed Jackman. “Every other actor who’s ever put on a superhero uniform will be in it. There’s an element of time travel and, naturally, it will be action-packed.”

The new film will jump between two moments in time, with part of it set in the same sort of ballpark as X-Men: First Class , while the other will jump forward to a dystopian future in which mutants have been imprisoned in concentration camps. Hence the door is left wide open for plenty of cameos from the older incarnations of our favourite mutants.

As well as assorted members of the old guard, the film will star James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, and will open in the UK on 18 July 2014. We can hardly wait…

Seismic superhero news this morning, as Matthew Vaughn has reportedly dropped out of directing X-Men: Days Of Future Past , the sequel to his well-received series reboot, X-Men: First Class .

At present, no reason has been given for Vaughn’s departure, although he will still remain involved with the project as producer. The move mirrors his involvement on Kick-Ass 2 , another sequel he declined to direct.

With the film pencilled in for a 2014 release date, Fox is expected to move fast to find a replacement for Vaughn, and according to Deadline (opens in new tab) , the man at the top of their list is none other than Bryan Singer.

Singer was of course the director of the first two X-Men films and also worked as a producer and writer on First Class , so his appointment would be the obvious choice. It was a big disappointment when he left the franchise in favour of Superman Returns , and we’d like to see him return to a universe he already knows inside out.

Expect further news on a replacement in the coming weeks, with filming set to commence early in the new year. X-Men: Days Of Future Past opens in the UK on 18 July 2014.
