The post Horizon Forbidden West 1.13 patch still doesn’t quite fix the shimmering issue appeared first on Game News.
]]>The Horizon Forbidden West 1.13 patch notes (opens in new tab) were published to the Horizon subreddit earlier today, and like usual, contained a long list of fixed player-reported issues in the game. Along with all the fixes, Guerrilla also likes to let fans know about the issues it is aware of but hasn’t quite managed to fix yet, and this time, it contains the shimmering issue so many players have been experiencing since launch.
Found in the ‘known issues’ section of the patch notes, Guerrilla has said: “Please note that these issues are not yet fixed in this patch, but our teams are aware of them and they’re being investigated.” Right below this, the first note for this section reads: “The team continues to make tweaks to the game’s content with the goal to reduce visual shimmering.”
If you weren’t aware, players first started reporting issues with shimmering in the game almost immediately after its release. At the time, Guerrilla suggested a quick fix that had players literally just turning the game off and on again, which for some did seem to fix the problem. Just over a month later though, Guerrilla shared another post to Reddit that recommended for players to change their TV settings as several issues are dependent on the make/brand of TV.
Clearly, the shimmering (as well as other visual issues) aren’t as easy to resolve as the developer originally thought. Still, it’s nice to know that the team at Guerrilla is working hard to fix the issues despite the game launching almost three months ago. You can read a full list of fixes in Horizon Forbidden West from the main quest, side quests, machines, and more via the link above.

]]>The post GTA 6 probably won’t arrive before the end of 2024, claims leaker appeared first on Game News.
]]>Twitter user and creator of Rockstar Mag @Chris_Klippel (opens in new tab) recently claimed (translated via Twitter): “An important step in the development of #GTA6 has just been reached. Things should speed up (internally at Rockstar).” The rest of the tweet read: “I think that a (real) announcement at the end of the year may be possible. In any case, I don’t see the game arriving before the end of 2024.”
Une étape importante dans le développement de #GTA6 viendrait d’être atteinte. Les choses devraient s’accélérer (en interne chez Rockstar). Although not officially linked with Rockstar, Klippel has previously leaked other intel about the upcoming GTA game as well as other info about games in the series. Previously, the Rockstar enthusiast claimed that GTA 6 “is Rockstar’s most chaotic project since its creation” due to several changes during the game’s development including its narrative, characters, setting, map, and more.
In case you missed it, GTA 6 was reported as being in “active development” and “well underway” by Rockstar back in February of this year. The announcement was made via a Grand Theft Auto community update, but there hasn’t actually been an official trailer or really any more info about the project released since then.
Contrary to Klippel’s claims, analysts have recently said that GTA 6 could release in 2023. Of course, neither of these sources are officially linked with Rockstar so it’s best to take both claims with a grain of salt. To be certain, we will have to wait for Rockstar to make an official announcement on GTA 6’s release date. Which, if these rumored release windows are anything to go off of, might not be for some time yet.

]]>In a tweet posted by Rockstar (opens in new tab), the developer announced: “The release dates for the physical versions of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition have changed.” Rather than releasing on December 7, 2021, like originally planned, the physical version of the collection will now be released on December 17, 2021.
If you were hoping to pick up the Nintendo Switch version of the remastered GTA Trilogy, however, we have some bad news. The Nintendo Switch version of the collection has been pushed back even further to an unspecified date sometime in 2022.

It’s possible that this delay could be due to the hefty update Rockstar released for the GTA Trilogy yesterday, which featured well over 100 fixes in the game from issues with misspellings on signs, UI errors, and several problems related to the rain in the game. Perhaps most notably though, the update reintroduced San Andreas’ foggy skyline, something fans have been petitioning for since the remastered collection was released.
Unfortunately, it’s been a rocky start for the GTA Trilogy which seems to consistently come up against issue after issue even before its release last month. Not only was the game full of bugs – prior to the latest update – it also missed out a tonne of classic elements which left a lot of long-time fans disappointed. This includes some of the game’s soundtrack and some of the classic cheats in the original titles.

]]>The post GTA 6 setting rumours resurface thanks to developers Instagram post appeared first on Game News.
]]>The post comes from soundtrack manager and music supervisor Tony Mesones, who has worked at Rockstar since 2011, providing music for GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, and L.A. Noire. The image appears to show a section of Miami’s South Beach, with the caption “who said it would be cold???”
As a number of social media commentators have pointed out, Miami is a very popular US tourism spot, which could just mean that Mesones is taking some time off work, rather than teasing his company’s next project. What’s a little more confusing, however, is that he decided to tag the Rockstar Games account in his post, a detail many have taken to mean this trip relates to a future Rockstar project.
Mesones’ post is far from proof of the game’s setting, but a trip to Miami does line up with a report that GTA 6 is set in modern-day Vice City, which was later corroborated by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. It’s no secret that the classic GTA setting is heavily inspired by Miami, which has sparked speculation that Mesones is visiting the city for some professional inspiration.
Sadly, we’re unlikely to find out the purpose of the trip for a long time yet. The reports discussing the setting of GTA 6 also claimed that while Rockstar might initially have been aiming for a 2023 release, the studio is now targeting a launch as late as 2025 in an attempt to improve employee wellbeing, and avoid any public delays. That’s also likely to mean that the game will only be available on new-gen consoles and PC.
Of course, until Rockstar officially announces GTA 6, it’s important to take all of this information with a pinch of salt. Development details are subject to regular change, and it’s also worth remembering that in this instance in particular, a Rockstar employee might just be sharing his holiday snaps.
If you can’t wait five years for GTA 6, here’s a list of new games 2021 to get excited about instead.

]]>The post Fortnite Short Nite 2 film festival returns on July 23 appeared first on Game News.
]]>The film festival will contain several animated shorts by up-and-coming-creators as well as debut the next entry of the Gildedguy animated series, Gildedguy Gets Up.
If you’re not familiar with the Party Royale space in Fortnite, it’s an experimental space within Fortnite that allows friends to get together and enjoy the likes of minigames, virtual concerts, movie showings, and more, without the competitiveness or threat of the main game.
Once players have entered the Party Royale zone they will be dropped onto a map and must find their way towards the big screen to witness whatever event is running at that time. Which, in the case of Short Nite 2, will be a series of animated shorts. Don’t worry if you can’t quite make it to the Party Royale mode in time though as the 40 minutes worth of content will be looped on the big screen for 48 hours after it is first premiered.

According to Epic Games’ announcement (opens in new tab), players will have the option to watch Short Nite 2 in the standard Battle Royale mode via picture-in-picture – which will be available during certain times of the event and accessible through the game’s settings. Players who wish to watch the shorts that have audio in a different language will also be able to alter this in the game’s settings.
Short films aren’t the only impressive thing that Fortnite has shown at the Party Royale, as the big screen also premiered some of filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s back catalog including Inception, Batman Begins, and The Prestige last year. There’s also been a series of concerts performed in this space of the game including performances by Steve Aoki, and deadmau5, with rumors of pop star Arianna Grande hosting a virtual concert in the game soon.
Grab your friends and gather around the big screen for Short Nite 2 from Friday, July 23 at 2pm ET / 11am PT / 7pm BST until Sunday, July 25 at the same time.

]]>The post Gears of War developer will show off an Unreal Engine 5 demo at GDC appeared first on Game News.
]]>The GDC panel (opens in new tab), which is set to run for an hour, is going to be presented on July 20 at 1:20 PM PT. The demo is called Alpha Point and will showcase how The Coalition has fared working with the Unreal Engine 5 technology, what the studio learned about it in a development environment, and the technology it’s taken advantage of. You won’t be able to access the panel unless you have a pass for the show though.
It’s important to note that this will not be a showcase of anything The Coalition is actively working on, at least in terms of a brand new game. This is purely a tech demo being made to showcase what the studio can achieve with the engine. So, don’t expect anything Gears of War or new IP-related from the developer.
However, it will be useful for developers to see exactly what can be done with the powerful new technology in a capacity outside of Epic Games. We’ve already seen Unreal Engine 5 in use in a showcase from the Fortnite developer last year, but this will demonstrate what can be done in other hands.
That means, even if you aren’t a developer, while there will be a lot of technical jargon, you will be able to get a sense of what truly next-gen games look like running in Unreal Engine 5. A session description confirms the demo will be running entirely on the Xbox Series X, meaning that it will literally show off what is possible on the console.
While fans won’t get a look at a new Gears of War here, this demo should at least give players some insight on what’s coming. The Coalition has moved over to Unreal Engine 5 for future games. All in all, it should be a fascinating glimpse whether you are a developer interested in working with the engine or just a game enthusiast looking for a glimpse at the future of games.
Check out what other games are upcoming up on the Xbox Series X.

]]>The post Rockstar Games co-founder has reportedly started a new studio appeared first on Game News.
]]>The discovery was spotted by Rockstar Mag (opens in new tab) (via IGN (opens in new tab)), who noted that Houser was listed as the director of a new company called Absurd Ventures In Games (opens in new tab). In the official business listing for the company, it’s noted that it was incorporated on June 23rd and has an office in Chesire, UK.
And that’s… about everything we know about the company right now. It’s clear that this is a new venture from Houser, but the prospective scale and scope of the company isn’t clear. While it certainly sounds like it’s set to take part in the game space, there’s no guarantee this is a new game developer from Houser. It’s entirely possible this is a consultancy or something else entirely. However, on the business directory Endole (opens in new tab), the company is classified as “ready-made interactive leisure and entertainment software development”.
Whatever Houser is up to, it’s bound to generate great interest. Often credited as one of the masterminds of the GTA and Red Dead Redemption series, alongside being a producer on most Rockstar games, Houser also wrote on every game in both series.
Dan Houser left Take-Two Interactive back in February of last year, leaving his brother Sam Houser behind to lead Rockstar. Dan Houser hasn’t yet resurfaced, but this is the first inkling of what he might be up to. He had a huge hand in crafting Rockstar Games, which is one of the most influential developers in the entire world. Being so involved in Grand Theft Auto’s rise into one of the most profitable intellectual properties of all time is bound to generate interest from fans and investors alike.
If this does end up being a serious venture into games development, it will be very interesting to see what Houser produces unchained from Rockstar. That being said, this appears to be very early days for the company. Houser is the only named employee, so it’s unlikely there is a team out there deep in development for his next game. Still, watch this space.
Elsewhere, recent rumors suggest that GTA 6 could be set in Vice-City.

]]>The open-world RPG Cyberpunk 2077 has finally returned to the PlayStation Store on PS4 and PS5, with an announcement (opens in new tab) from developer CD Projekt Red. Those that purchase the game on PS4 will also be able to play it on PS5 through backward compatibility. The PS5 upgrade will be coming in the near future and will be free to players that own the PS4 version, be that digitally or physically.
Despite Cyberpunk 2077 returning to the store, PlayStation has officially advised players (opens in new tab) that “Work on the PS4 version continues,” and that for the best experience, players should play the game on PS4 Pro or PS5. In the press release from CD Projekt Red, it’s also noted that “users may continue to experience some performance issues with the PS4 edition,” and highlights that it’s working to improve stability across all platforms.

The game’s return to the store was speculated last week when it became available to wishlist. Shortly after, it was confirmed to be returning by Sony who said that “users will continue to experience performance issues with the PS4”.
Cyberpunk 2077 returning to the PlayStation Store has been months in the works. When the game launched last year, it was ripe with bugs and performance issues to the point that Sony removed the game from its digital storefront, with no roadmap for its return, refunding players who were dissatisfied with their experience.
Over the last few months, CD Projekt Red has been clear that the game’s return would be up to Sony, and the studio has been pushing regular updates to improve the game somewhat. It looks like those efforts have finally been enough to bring the game back. For the future of Cyberpunk 2077, in addition to planned updates and free DLC, a new game director is jumping on board to focus on the planned future expansions

]]>The post El Paso, Elsewhere looks like a Max Payne spiritual successor appeared first on Game News.
]]>Announced during the Guerrilla Collective show on June 5 – marking the start of the E3 2021 line up – El Paso, Elsewhere looks to evoke the mood of slow-motion shooter titles like Max Payne. Developed by Strange Scaffold, the game includes werewolves and vampires that hunt you down in a reality-shifting motel. And yes, you’re wearing a badass trench coat.
You’ll be able to jump through the hallways in slow motion as you progress through multiple levels. According to the game’s Steam page (opens in new tab), the motel was originally only 3-stories, but overnight developed an additional 46 levels going deeper underground. The announcement trailer is below, and shows off a game with almost retro-looking graphics that comes packed with destructible physics props. It’s also incredibly stylized and with lots of gore splattering all over the place, making it truly feel like a spiritual successor to Max Payne.
El Paso, Elsewhere has been funded on Patreon, as revealed by game director Xalavier Nelson Jr on Twitter (opens in new tab), and doesn’t just involve killing supernatural beings. The game explores a love story that has ended, as Nelson Jr told NME in an interview (opens in new tab), “But that still carries weight for both of the parties involved. Falling in love with the Lord of the Vampires will fuck you up. And being honest about fundamental pieces of how that works, including the fact that even in the midst of that abusive relationship, even having experienced that, there’s still a part of you that loves that person.”
With a release date set for 2022, El Paso, Elsewhere looks like a third-person shooter we’ll have to wait for. But when it does launch, there will be a hip-hop soundtrack to go with it and a fully voiced story.
Max Payne 3 launched back in 2012 but back in April of this year received a surprise update. While Remedy has been busy with Control and its Alan Wake-themed expansion for Control, it hasn’t announced that it’s working on a new Max Payne game. However, it is working on the “next big Remedy game” whatever that may be.

]]>The post Ubisoft Forward accessibility features detailed ahead of E3 appeared first on Game News.
]]>With the Ubisoft Forward presentation due to take place on June 12, the company has outlined how it’s making the stream accessible. The main show is being streamed on the official website and will be offering viewers subtitles in 12 different languages. There will also be interpreters translating both the pre-show and the main show in American Sign Language. The main show itself is also going to feature the option to have it audio-described in English.
The tweet from Ubisoft below says that we’ll be finding out how to access each feature at some point. If it’s through a YouTube video embed I would expect the subtitles to be available in the cc options area and the audio description through the video settings wheel.
Ubisoft has been making a strong push to make its media content accessible for disabled audiences, and last year Ubisoft’s senior manager of accessibility, David Tisserand, explained that the company is making accessibility a part of its DNA (opens in new tab). The company was also the first to make use of a YouTube audio track tool (opens in new tab) last year that allowed users to choose an audio-described additional track for several of its big titles. These tracks were created by Descriptive Video Works (opens in new tab)who also provided audio descriptions for The Game Awards 2020. Ubisoft tells us that the same company is behind the audio description for Ubisoft Forward.
ICYMI, #UbiForward will feature subtitles in 12 languages, American Sign Language, and Audio Described trailers! Stay tuned for details on how to access each feature ✨June 4, 2021

Ubisoft’s focus on accessibility has been very present within its recent games such as Watch Dogs Legion and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. And during the Far Cry 6 gameplay reveal, Ubisoft also revealed an extensive list of accessibility features to be available (opens in new tab) in the game when it launches.
The event itself will see Ubisoft showcasing upcoming titles of which we expect to see games such as Far Cry 6 – launching later this year – and Rainbow Six: Quarantine. We probably won’t see anything about Skull and Bones as it was delayed to 2022, but we could see something teased from Ubisoft Reflections that’s reportedly working on a new IP.
