The post The Sims 4 job listing hints at cinematic storytelling in the future appeared first on Game News.
]]>As spotted by Sims Community (opens in new tab), the official EA Careers website is currently hiring for a storyboard artist to work at its Maxis Studio – developer of The Sims 4. A quick look at the job listing (opens in new tab) shows that the position is no longer available, but the job description is still available to view.
What’s interesting about this job listing is that the successful applicant will be responsible for helping the studio to “visualize our designs, gameplay experiences, and technology solutions through animatics and storytelling.” This, as pointed out by Sims Community, makes it sound as if The Sims 4 is getting some kind of cinematic storytelling – potentially cutscenes – in an update sometime soon.
Some of the scenarios that EA wants to see from successful applicants include: “a conversation between multiple characters”, “a dinner sequence involving an extended family”, and “a lively sidewalk scene outside a store.”
This new inclusion hasn’t been officially announced by Maxis or EA and is currently just speculation, but that doesn’t stop us from getting excited about the future of The Sims 4 as well as any future simulation games the studio may be developing.
New content for The Sims 4 is still constantly being rolled out, with one of the more exciting drops recently being the reveal of The Sims 4 Scenarios – a series of goal-based story missions that will reward players for completing them – as well as the ongoing The Sims 4 kits, which are periodically sent out to players every few months with new items included in each mini download.

]]>Talking of Ms. Perry, Showtime’s released today in two separate editions: the regular $39 disc, or the $49 Katy Perry Edition, including a poster and exclusive Perry-themed content. At time of writing, no one in the office has earned enough Simoleans to unlock the “scallywag British ex” accessory, but it’s early days.

Welcome to Champs Les Sims, home to the Nectary, La Gallerie d’Art, and the mysterious Chateau du Landgraab. There’s plenty of adventure to be had here, so make sure you’re stocked up on dried food and showers in a can. If you’ve already done the missions in our Shang Simla guide, you’ll likely have already reached Visa Level 1 in France, as well as having the handy Axe of Pangu to smash boulders. If not, you’ll still be able to get to Visa Level 3 with this guide, as well as getting filthy rich off the treasure you’ll find! Check the adventure board in front of your home base to get started.
Jeannine Lambert wants a brave adventurer to help her out, so report in to get started. Jeannine lost an object in the Celtic Ruins at the Forgotten Burial Mound, and she wants you to travel there and find it. Head to the ruins.

There’s a staircase leading underground just off the actual mound; descend it. Clear the pile of rubble and inspect the wall behind it. Go through the secret door and stand on the panel. Enter the unlocked door. You can clear the rubble for some loot, and grab the Ancient Coins in this room before standing on the foot panel. A hole will appear in the wall in front of you, so inspect it to unlock the door to your left. Enter the door.
Clear the piles of rubble and collect the heart keystone and treasure. Inspect the wall with the half-circle carpet in front of it to find another hidden door. Grab the treasure from the room behind it and then use the keystone and go through the unlocked door. Pull the furthest statue on the left onto the panel, and enter the newly unlocked door. Grab the Ancient Coins and inspect the hole in the wall to open up a shortcut back out; that will make it easier to backtrack later. Pull a statue onto the visible panel on the floor. Another panel will reveal itself across the room; pull the other statue onto it, and then stand on the foot panel. A staircase will open in the floor. Go downstairs.

There’s a lot of treasure in this room if you can navigate the labyrinth within. Simply look around and click on the object you want, and your Sim will head right to it. Be sure to grab the heart keystone and use it in the door across the room. Loot the treasure chest in the small room and back out again. Pull the statue near where you came downstairs onto the panel to unlock another door, and go through it. There’s a ton of treasure in here as well, so loot the room and inspect the glowing hole in the floor to find the missing item Jeannine wanted. A secret door will open to the left; there’s a treasure chest in there to loot. Then go through the other door in the tombstone room. Go up the stairs and stand on the panel for a shortcut out. Report back to Jeannine for your reward.

Generations focuses on adding elements to every stage of a sim’s life, with an emphasis on children and teenagers. A lot of these additions are really interesting, like how adults can now suffer a midlife crisis, during which they have particularly childish wishes that cannot be canceled (though you don’t have to accept them).
One particularly clever feature is that infants can grow up with an imaginary friend that no one else can interact with, which can be turned into a real creature later in life. Teens and young adults get a lot more options in terms of relationships, including the ability to go on dates and host parties (especially when the parents are away), as well as go to dances. In what may be true to life, your sims can be ditched or denied at events like prom night.

Above: This man is stoked that he can have body hair in this new expansion
You can also buy a video camera for your sims to use, which gives you a first-person view and the ability to record your sims’ life for a set amount of time. Your sims can even watch these movies later on their TV. The camera is a little unwieldy and the footage is shaky, but that’s true of most home movies, isn’t it?

Above: The popular “scary image and loud sound” prank is alive and kicking here, just like it’s 2002 again
If you’re just making a list of new content introduced in Generations, it seems like a lot. There are plenty of new objects (as should be expected), new social opportunities, expanded life celebrations like weddings and graduations, star gazing, bachelor and bachelorette parties and even the option to clone your sims.
But when looking at these features up close, a lot of them become less exciting. For example, rebellious sims can play pranks throughout their house and neighborhood, such as the classic whoopee cushion on a chair. Funny, but extremely simple. And the effects just don’t last. You can rig a shower to dye the hair of its next user, but unfortunately the effect only lasts a second before the victim somehow washes it away. It would be more entertaining if the victim had to spend a little time in public with embarrassingly colored hair.

Above: This kid looks a little more than just mischievous
Another new feature is the ability for adults to WooHoo (you know, get their freak on) in a couple of new locations: the shower and the tree house. Great, we’re glad that’s there (because we’re perverts who enjoy watching that sort of thing), but couldn’t such a simple addition have just been given to everybody in a patch?

Above: Kids can play make-believe in the tree house. Adults can play a very different game in the same location
It’s not like Generations makes any bad additions or changes. Everything in this package is something you can at least appreciate existing, even if it doesn’t appeal to your gameplay style. But what’s there doesn’t always feel like enough to justify this full price of an expansion pack, especially when so much has been added in past products. Unless you’re desperate to add a little life to your sims’ youth, you might be able to pass on this one.
