]]> Think Star Wars and Jedis and you automatically think of the Lightsaber. Favoured by Jedi Knights and Sith Lords alike, the iconic weapon has cemented its place in pop culture so much so, that no-one could fail to recognise the sound of it being unsheathed.

On December 15, Luke Skywalker himself (aka Mark Hamill) will host Star Wars: Evolution of the Lightsaber on ESPN, which will chart the history of the weapon all the way back to its Kendo origins. But if you can’t wait, there’s a featurette for the upcoming special, which gives you a sneak peek at the history of the Lightsaber. Watch it below…

The fighting style has evolved from film to film, becoming more intense and complex, and we’ve not even seen The Force Awakens yet! It will be interesting to see JJ Abrams’ version of a Lightsaber duel – particularly when you consider that the superb martial artists from The Raid franchise are in the movie – and there may even be a chance they’ll show some new Star Wars 7 footage in the TV special. Fingers crossed!

Directed by Abrams and starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released in UK cinemas on December 17, 2015 before opening in US theatres a day later.

]]> The countdown to Star Wars: The Force Awakens (opens in new tab) has almost reached single digits (eek!), and incredibly there are still secrets which have yet to be discovered. Lupita Nyong’o’s mysterious Maz Kanata ranks high in that regard; although her voice has featured prominently in trailers and TV spots the character has been kept largely under wraps, but now we finally have a glimpse of Kanata in a new Disney XD featurette.

Check it out below, and keep an eye out for her at the 15 second mark…

In addition to the above clip, a new international TV spot for The Force Awakens offers some exciting new footage, which includes some extended shots of John Boyega’s Finn, as well as a look at Return of the Jedi’s Nien Nunb. The Sullustan X-Wing pilot was Lando Calrissian’s righthand man during the big battle in Episode VI, and fans will be pleased to see that Mike Quinn is returning for the latest Star Wars outing.

Get ready to geek out when you spot him at the 17 second mark…

]]> At this point, any Marvel fan worth their salt knows that it pays to stay in your seat after the credits roll on their latest superhero film. Since Samuel L. Jackson’s eye-patched Nick Fury appeared at the end of 2008’s Iron Man, the studio has become famous for its post-credit scenes. According to The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams however, Star Wars will not be following suit.

At the Los Angeles press conference for the film last Sunday, the director was asked if we could expect any surprises after the credits for the film. The answer was short and to the point: “No. All of the scenes are actually in the movie.” Whether that will hold true for future Star Wars films remains to be seen, but unless you want to acknowledge all the people who worked on The Force Awakens – an admirable endeavour, it should be noted – there’s little point in staying in your seat once the credits begin this time round.
