The Fantastic Four looks to have cast itself a big bad, with Variety (opens in new tab) reporting that Toby Kebbell will play Victor von Doom, AKA Doctor Doom, in the forthcoming reboot.

According to the report, Kebbell was the studio’s first pick from a shortlist that also included the likes of Jack Huston and Domhnall Gleeson.

As the villainous Doom, Kebbell will be going up against the titular super-team of Jamie Bell, Kate Mara, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan, in what is looking like a pleasingly youthful ensemble.

Plot details remain fairly sketchy at this stage, although it has been suggested that the story will draw from the Ultimate Fantastic Four run, in which the group were redrawn as a team of younger characters.

Directed by Chronicle helmer Josh Trank, The Fantastic Four will open in the UK on 18 June 2015.

Having recently added Simon Kinberg to rewrite the script , Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot looks to be moving ahead with casting, with a whole host of names set to test for the leading roles.

According to Variety (opens in new tab) , Game Of Thrones star Kit Harington is set to test for the part of Reed Richards, (perhaps better known as Mr. Fantastic) alongside Jack O’Connell and Miles Teller.

Meanwhile, Saoirse Ronan, Kate Mara and Margot Robbie make up the frontrunners to play Sue Storm (Invisible Girl), with the trio all set to meet with the studio in due course.

Michael B. Jordan remains the only name to be linked to Johnny Storm (Human Torch), while we’ve heard nothing at all as to who might play The Thing or indeed the villain of the piece.

With Josh Trank in place to direct, The Fantastic Four is currently slated for a US release date of 6 March 2015, with a UK date to be confirmed.
