Along with the two new dungeons and story content, Flames of Ambition introduces new item sets, achievements, and collectibles to collect. Finally, Elder Scrolls Online Update 29 is live on console with changes to the Champion Point system, armor, Advanced stats, and fast travel outside homes, as well as a laundry list of bug fixes and quality of life improvements. Elder Scrolls Online’s year-long Gates of Oblivion saga has officially begun with the Flames of Ambition DLC, which is live now and includes two new group dungeons, new item sets and collectibles, and more.

The centerpiece of the Elder Scrolls Online: Flames of Ambition DLC are the two new dungeons. Black Drake Villa is a new four-player fire-themed dungeon located in the northern Gold Coast. The abandoned mansion is now overrun by monsters and arsonists, making up three main bosses and four optional secret bosses.

You’ll find the other dungeon, Cauldron, in western Dashaan. It’s another four-player dungeon, but here we’ve got an underground mine crawling with murderous cult members who’ve been kidnapping citizens of a quiet Dark Elf village. Your job is to rescue the poor old Dark Elves and stop the sinister cult from carrying out a dark ritual with disastrous consequences.

Both of the new dungeons can be completed in Normal and Veteran modes, and Black Drake Villa’s got an optional hard mode for an even bigger challenge. Naturally, both dungeons are crammed with loot, including new gear sets, achievements, and collectibles. And just by entering one of the new dungeons, you’ll get the sweet Fire-Forged Maul outfit style you can see this brooding dude on the left rocking:

Launching alongside the Flames of Ambition DLC is update 29, a free patch for the base game that introduces a redesigned Champion system and character sheet, as well as a host of quality-of-life updates. Check out the complete list of changes here.

The Flames of Ambition DLC is available now on PC and Stadia, and it’s coming to consoles on March 16. The expansion is free for ESO Plus subscribers, or you can get it for 1500 crowns from the in-game store.

The groundbreaking news that Microsoft had acquired ZeniMax Media shook the industry, but it looks like ESO fans on PS4 needn’t worry. Taking to Twitter (opens in new tab) to issue a statement on the news, ZeniMax Online Studios director assured fans that the plan is to continue supporting ESO on all platforms “for years to come.”

“I want to take this moment to reassure the entire Elder Scrolls Online community that ESO will continue to be supported exactly as it was, and we fully expect it to keep growing and thriving on each of the platforms that are currently supported,” the statement reads in-part.

ZeniMax Online is currently gearing up to release ESO’s next DLC pack, Markarth, which will conclude the year-long Dark Heart of Skyrim narrative. The update adds The Reach as the newest zone, a new solo arena, new monsters, and plenty of bug fixes and quality-of-life updates. We caught up with creative director Rich Lambert (opens in new tab) to talk about the new update in-depth, and it sounds like quite the ride.

“So right from the very start there’s action, and it carries all the way through the remainder of the storyline. So it’s not a slow build-up now, it is boiling and you are racing through this storyline, which is really exciting,” Lambert teased.

Exciting indeed, and even more-so considering no players are being left out.

All you need to do is head to the Xbox Store, PlayStation Store, or Steam page for ESO: Tamriel Unlimited after 10am Eastern / 3pm BST and download the game. After that you’ll be able to create an account and login free of charge. Should you choose to take part in the free trial week, you’ll be given 500 Crowns (the in-game currency used for cosmetics, boosts, and loot boxes), and any progress you make will be carried over to the full version.

If you decide your adventures in Tamriel are worth continuing, you’ll receive a discount on the base game or the Gold Edition, which contains the Imperial City, Orsinium, Thieves Guild, and Dark Brotherhood DLC packs. ESO no longer requires a subscription, so no need to plan out a monthly budget beyond the game itself.

ESO has changed a lot since launch (opens in new tab), with even more content planned for the future. Next up for the MMO? The island of Vvardenfell with The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind (opens in new tab).
