Cobie Smulders has admitted that she’s in talks for Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show, in a move that’d lend some continuity credibility to the small-screen spin-off.
In an interview with IAR (opens in new tab) , Smulders was asked about the possibility of appearing in the show, considering that she has a major role in a long-running sitcom.
“The commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it,” Smulders responded. “And I can’t really say but there are definite talks about it.”
If she does sign on, it’d be a wonderful win for the show. Smulders character was a popular addition to the franchise in The Avengers , and it’d certainly help the TV series feel genuinely connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rather than coming across as a cheap knock-off.
Plus, Smulders has the small screen experience from her gig on HIMYM .
Hill is the sidekick to Samuel L. Jackson’s big boss, Nick Fury: smart, level-headed and handy with a pistol.
Smulders went on to add that she intends to stay in the MCU for as long as possible, “Oh yeah! I’m very excited. I will do Maria Hill until they fire me and hire someone else to do it.”

The Avengers has blazed a trail through the U.S box office, taking a staggering $200.3 million in its opening weekend to leave previous records crushed into a heap of smouldering rubble.
After saturating the media with promotional material, everybody had anticipated Marvel would end up with a commercial hit on their hands, but the final performance has trumped even the most optimistic of forecasts.
The film beat Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 ’s existing record by more than $30 million, which when added to the current international gross, should bring the film’s overall take to around $575 million worldwide.
Needless to say, the higher ticket prices afforded by the film’s 3D format have gone some way to reeling in such an impressive take, but by anybody’s standards, Joss Whedon’s superhero blowout has been an immense success.
After setting up their movie with countless origin stories across a number of years, Marvel have certainly played the long game with The Avengers , but even the most starry-eyed executive couldn’t have hoped for such a payoff. Now, about that sequel…

The Avengers are bearing down on cinemas nationwide, and in advance of their grand arrival, Mark Ruffalo has been discussing his role as the Hulk. More specifically, he’s been discussing the possibility of a solo movie…
‘I was a comic book fan when I was a kid and I always loved the Hulk,” says Ruffalo. “When The Incredible Hulk , that show, came on, I would not miss that. And so if I was going to find myself in that world, this would be the guy that I would be most interested in doing.”
“To make a very short answer long: Yeah, I’d love to have him do his own movie.” And as for his work on The Avengers , Ruffalo is proud to have entered a very exclusive club…
“I’ve been having a lot of fun with the Hulk motion-capture stuff,” he explains. “The only distinction that I hold is that I am the only actor to ever play Banner and the Hulk. So I’ve been working a lot with ILM … no one will be able to blame ILM fully if this Hulk doesn’t work!”
Ruffalo also went on to describe how Bruce Banner fits into the team, particularly focusing upon his relationship with Iron Man.
“We’re trying to bring out this charm in him, and maybe this idea that he wants to be a superhero,” he says. “I mean, he looks at Stark and he’s like, ‘That’s the dude who did what I was intending to do. He’s the model. He made it work.’ So Banner and Stark have a very cool relationship in the movie.”
The Avengers opens in the UK on 26 April 2012.
