]]>The rules are fairly simple for cinematic soirées (drink whenever ‘this’ or ‘that’ happens on screen), but they naturally vary with each round, depending on which movie you’ve decided to whack on the telly. Have a swig every time a zombie bites it in Zombielandor take a tipple every time someone says, “Mr President” in Independence Day. Only the very best movie drinking games have made it onto our list below.
You’ll find some of these in our best Netflix movies (opens in new tab) list.
And some on our best Amazon Prime Video movies (opens in new tab) list.

The movie: Will Ferrell stars as the mustachioed broadcaster living it up as the network’s main attraction, only to get shafted when he’s lumbered with a female co-host in the form of Christina Applegate’s Veronica Corningstone.
Take a drink when: Ron addresses San Diego or makes a bizarre exclamation (i.e. “By the beard of Zeus!”). Brick Tamland says something stupid. An Apatow favourite makes a cameo.
Watch Anchorman now on Amazon Prime Video (opens in new tab)

The movie: This horror comedy takes place in a post-apocalyptic world – it’s there in the title, isn’t it? The nifty part is that the undead have been roaming for a while when we meet Jesse Eisenberg’s survivor, who tells us – via amusing onscreen captions – of certain rules he has to stay alive.
Take a drink when: A rule comes up on screen. Somebody uses a place as a character name. Twinkies are talked about. Tallahassee kills a zombie.
Watch Zombieland now on Amazon Prime Video (opens in new tab)

The movie: ’80s action classic starring Tom Cruise as a rebellious fighter pilot, Maverick, who goes up against the oppression of… err… those who don’t like really really fast planes? There’s shirtless volleyball too.
Take a drink when: There’s a homoerotic look shared between characters. Characters high five. Maverick goes against the rules. The song ‘Danger Zone’ plays.
Watch Top Gun now on Amazon Prime Video (opens in new tab)

The movie: The best slasher flick of the ’90s, starring Neve Campbell as the target of a movie-loving psychopath. Both witty and scary, it launched the careers of its young cast and schooled a generation on horror movie trivia.
Take a drink when: Someone references another horror movie. A phone rings. Gale Weathers makes a bitchy remark to her cameraman. Ghostface appears.
Watch Scream now on Amazon Prime Video (opens in new tab)

The movie: A group of pals on a ker-azy stag party (Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms) wake up in Vegas the next morning, but can’t remember anything about the previous night. They probably played too many movie drinking games.
Take a drink when: Stu touches his missing tooth or mentions it. Someone says remember. You see a Vegas landmark. Alan copies Phil.
Watch The Hangover now on Amazon Prime Video (opens in new tab)

The movie: Ben Stiller stars as quite possibly the stupidest man alive, Derek Zoolander. A model with looks that could kill, he becomes embroiled in a bizarre plot where only models can save the world.
Take a drink when: Zoolander does the face. There’s a celebrity cameo. Will Ferrell looks like his dog. Somebody says ‘Blue Steel’.
Watch Zoolander now on Amazon Prime Video (opens in new tab)

The movie: Freddy Krueger haunts the dreams of the Elm Street children, whose parents fried him to death when they were youngsters. The plot unravels through the experiences of Nancy, a teenager and Freddy’s main target. He’ll do anything to get her – even turn himself into a… err… phone handset.
Take a drink when: You’re not sure if somebody is awake or dreaming. Freddy Krueger’s on screen. You see Nancy’s house from the outside. Horror legend John Saxon appears.
Watch A Nightmare on Elm Street now on Amazon Prime Video (opens in new tab)

The movie: In his most recent collaboration with Martin Scorsese (ignoring that weird casino commercial), DiCaprio plays real-life stock market sleaze Jordan Belfort – a man who will stoop low to go high. By that I mean, get high.
Take a drink when: Someone says fuck. Anyone snorts anything. Something ridiculously decadent and hedonistic happens.
Watch The Wolf of Wall Street now on Amazon Prime Video (opens in new tab)

The movie: A small American town is overrun with horrible little beasties who turn Christmas into a nightmare, particularly for Zach Galligan’s teenager.
Take a drink when: A gremlin is killed. Gizmo does something cute. Gizmo gets tortured. The gremlins do something crazy.
Watch Gremlins now on Amazon Prime Video (opens in new tab)

The movie: Coolest action movie ever made? Probably. Bruce Willis stars as a cop who’s trapped in a building with 12 terrorists at Christmas time. He’s the only thing stopping them from delivering more than presents…
Take a drink when: Anyone uses a radio or walkie-talkie to communicate. McClane kills a bad guy. There’s a Christmas reference. McClane talks to himself.
Watch Die Hard now on Amazon Prime Video (opens in new tab)

]]>The post Was Kylo Ren supposed to be bald? This exclusive Star Wars: The Last Jedi concept art is giving us questions appeared first on Game News.
]]>First up is a full-body shot of Kylo Ren in his new, Empire-approved attire. It’s not uncommon for concept artists to focus solely on the task at hand – in this case, the costume – but it’s mildly shocking to see Kylo without his trademark head of jet black hair. That’s definitely Adam Driver’s unmistakable face, and it’s not like the artist just ignored Kylo’s noggin altogether – there’s clearly the fuzz of a freshly shaven scalp up there. Perhaps at one point in the film’s production, Kylo Ren was going to shave his head as an act of disgraced transformation. In place of the classic hood, a heavy cape’s been added, and we get a closer look at Kylo’s subtly altered, stitch-quilted suit (which looks a heck of a lot more breathable).

(opens in new tab)
We’ve also got a shot of the destruction caused by the stampeding Fathiers (colloquially known by audiences as ‘space horses’) that run wild all over the casino planet of Canto Bight. This art has essentially been brought to life in the film – though if that rich Rodian was amidst the chaos, I must’ve missed him in the excitement of the scene. Sorry about your speeders, you wealthy Bight socialites, but that’s what you get for callously exploiting these animals for gambling sport!

]]>The post Rey wont “pay attention to Porgs” in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, says Daisy Ridley appeared first on Game News.
]]>Speaking to USA Today (opens in new tab), Ridley says that while she loves the “adorable” Porgs, Rey will have a different tack, as she reveals, “Rey, honestly, is too wrapped up in her own journey to pay attention to Porgs. Which is a sad thing.”
I’ve heard of going above and beyond when duty calls but this is just ridiculous. Couldn’t you stop and give them a hug for just one moment Rey, you utter, utter monster?
On the more serious side of things, it shows – as has been revealed in a few of the trailers – just how focused Rey is on her training. Hopefully that determination doesn’t lead her down a dark and shadowy path – is her ignoring Porgs the first step towards the Dark Side?!
Because you can never get enough about Porgs in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, listen to the Porgs butcher/schmooze their way through the Star Wars theme (opens in new tab)(depending on your point of view). You can also, if you so wish, cast your gaze over these objectively hideous baby Porgs (opens in new tab). Viewer discretion is advised.

“When I first read the script, I thought they’d do it on green screen,” Hamill says. Not so, as he reveals: “Then they said they wanted to go to a real location…”
The Ahch-To scenes were filmed on the peak of Irish island Skellig Michael, which involved a fair amount of walking up steps and it was a killer on the legs for Hamill: “I said ‘How long are you allowing the crew to get up the hill.’ They said, ‘45 minutes.’ I said, ‘Give me an hour and a half.’ I had to stop every 100 steps because they’re not normal steps – they’re stone, and it’s up and up and it never ends.”
It could have been a killer for Hamill, too, if he wasn’t careful. Thankfully, a helping hand was provided as everyone went (way) above and beyond whilst filming, as Hamill explains, “They had this big mountain climber guide behind me to catch me in case I stumbled and fell. If I fall off the cliff and die, the insurance would go crazy – let’s face it, I’m an investment!”

]]>The post C-3PO actor on working with Carrie Fisher in Star Wars: The Last Jedi: “there she is, living forever” appeared first on Game News.
]]>The Jar Jar defense came in response to a fan who vigorously asserted the character’s existence and place within Star Wars canon, to which Daniels responded, “Jar Jar was created by George Lucas and he employed an actor, Ahmed Best, who is a terrific actor. Terrific mover. Terrific, inventive brain. Highly intelligent. Did exactly what George asked him to do. George’s son Jett was thrilled by that performance that Ahmed did perfectly, but Jett was 10 years old.”
Daniels said that to him, Jar Jar was like the Ewoks from Return of the Jedi. He had simply grown past the age when such creatures would appeal to him. He said that children who grew up in the age of the prequels have much kinder attitudes toward Jar Jar, and Daniels admired Best for his performance – even if he personally wasn’t into it.
As for Fisher, Daniels started with a reminder about her addiction to Coca-Cola, telling the audience that they’d be surprised at how many scenes have a can hidden behind the scenery (Fisher told Ellen DeGeneres (opens in new tab) she’d open as many as 16 cans per day, though she didn’t finish them all). And when Star Wars: The Last Jedi (opens in new tab) arrives in theaters, hopefully we’ll all have an experience like Daniels did.
“The magic of the movies is you will see her as you’ve never seen before. The other day when I was putting my voice back on [The Last Jedi], I had completely forgotten what we had shot,” he said. “Suddenly in the footage that I’m watching, there she is, living forever. That’s movies for you.”

]]>The post Dark Luke, new aliens, and Snoke – the massive new Star Wars: The Last Jedi info drop explained appeared first on Game News.
]]>Here’s everything from Entertainment Weekly’s big cover story (opens in new tab) and – believe me – there’s a lot to take in. So buckle up.
First up, Mark Hamill has opened up some more about Luke’s time on Ahch-To. He’s already revealed what the deal is with the last remaining Skywalker (or is he?) becoming a hermit on the island, but now’s Hamill is revealing what came before, and what could make him turn to the Dark Side.
“[Luke] made a huge mistake in thinking that his nephew was the chosen one, so he invested everything he had in Kylo, much like Obi-Wan did with my character. And he is betrayed, with tragic consequences,” Hamill explains, “Luke feels responsible for that. That’s the primary obstacle he has to rejoining the world and his place in the Jedi hierarchy, you know? It’s that guilt, that feeling that it’s his fault, that he didn’t detect the darkness in him until it was too late.”

“There’s massive amounts of backstory that is left to your imagination and I couldn’t do my job without figuring out what that was. Since it’s not really important to the main story as a whole a lot of it is just for my own process. I talked with Rian about it and went into this elaborate scenario of what happened to Luke after the end of the Return of the Jedi.”
“The fact that Luke says, ‘I only know one truth. It’s time for the Jedi to end…’ I mean, that’s a pretty amazing statement for someone who was the symbol of hope and optimism in the original films,” before going on to say, “When I first read it, my jaw dropped,” the actor says. “What would make someone that alienated from his original convictions? That’s not something that you can just make up in an afternoon, and I really struggled with this thing.”
Luke isn’t the only one on that island, though. Rey’s there too – but it’s less of a willing mentor/apprentice dynamic than you might be expecting.
“Oh my God, this other man that I lost within a couple days was somewhat of a father figure,” says Daisy Ridley, “Now he’s gone, and instead I’m with this grumpy guy on an island who doesn’t want me here… I don’t think one girl, who he doesn’t know, turning up with a lightsaber is gonna make him go, ‘Oh, shit, yeah, of course I’ll get back into the action’”
Finn is another deeply affected by the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. (opens in new tab) Not least of all because of the injuries suffered at the hands of Kylo Ren. In fact, at the movie’s outset, he’s considering packing it all in:
“It got really real for him, and he just wants to get away and not be involved. His intention in the first place was to go to the Outer Rim. He was always brought back [in The Force Awakens,], but this is his chance to get away and perhaps find Rey and go off together. He’s trying to do that at first.”
Things change, though, when he comes across ‘grease monkey’ Resistance mechanic Rose, played by Kelly Marie Tran. Their partnership sounds like it’ll be one of the highlights of the movie, especially as the two head to, as director Rian Johnson describes, “The casino metropolis of Canto Bight on the world of Cantonica.”

“Poe Dameron is super cool. Finn’s super cool. Even though [Rose] is good at what she does, she’s not known,” Tran says. “She’s not cool. She’s this nobody, this background player, which is what makes her interesting. She’s not the best. She’s not royalty. She’s someone who is just like everyone else.”
Rose isn’t the only new face cropping up in Star Wars 8. The Last Jedi continues the tradition of introducing weird and wonderful aliens in a galaxy far, far away with the inclusion of Ahch-To’s caretakers and the penguin-esque Porgs.

“If you go to Skellig at the right time of year, it’s just covered in puffins, and they’re the most adorable things in the world. So when I was first scouting there, I saw these guys, and I was like, oh, these are part of the island. And so the Porgs are in that realm.”

“They’re kind of these sort of fish-bird type aliens who live on the island,” Johnson says. “They’ve been there for thousands of years, and they essentially keep up the structures on the island…They’re all female, and I wanted them to feel like a remote sort of little nunnery.” As for Luke’s presence on the island? The caretakers “tolerate” him. Passive-aggressive, much?
“Hopefully it will be fun to discover in the context of the movie,” Johnson says, “My notion was this is a place that goes all the way back. This is where the cave paintings are.”
“The first designs that we had were temples, and I just kept pushing it back and saying, ‘No, think earlier, think earlier. Let’s push this all the way back and see how deep we can go into the foundations of where this all started.’”
Finally, something everyone has been eagerly waiting to see more of is Supreme Leader Snoke. Your wish is my command:
“Similar to Rey’s parentage, Snoke is here to serve a function in the story. And a story is not a Wikipedia page,” the director says. “For example, in the original trilogy, we didn’t know anything about the Emperor except what Luke knew about him, that he’s the evil guy behind Vader. Then in the prequels, you knew everything about Palpatine because his rise to power was the story…we’ll learn exactly as much about Snoke as we need to.”
“it’s entirely a mo-cap performance,” Johnson says. “[Creature designer] Neal Scanlan built a maquette that we had on set for lighting reference and to give the actors a sense of what it was going to feel like. And then we scanned that and [Industrial Light & Magic] used that in their renderings, but Snoke will be an entirely CG creation.”

“They have to be built to move, and you have to believe that they could step forward and engage if they have to. They have to seem dangerous.”
“[The Praetorian Guardians are] his personal guards,” Johnson says. “They stick with [Snoke]. So they’re essentially bodyguards.”

]]>The post The Star Wars: The Last Jedi character posters are bold (and taking the red theme all the way) appeared first on Game News.
]]>There’s not much else to say except that they’re pretty striking, with a similar red motif we’ve seen through Star Wars 8’s promotional material. Each poster sees one of the movie’s main characters dressed in their familiar costumes, but all converted into a deep, rich red, which reminds me of a similar collection of posters (opens in new tab) from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (opens in new tab).
Another interesting aspect, is that you can’t see anyone’s eyes in the images… something which is a little odd, if not unheard of, for character posters.

]]>The post Star Wars: The Last Jedi will have an extra Star Wars 9-related scene appeared first on Game News.
]]>Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via /Film (opens in new tab)), Trevorrow revealed that he asked Rian Johnson to film an extra scene for The Last Jedi, and he kindly obliged. Johnson had this to say, “There was one little thing. It wasn’t an adjustment, it was just ‘Could you shoot this one extra thing while you’re in this place on this day?’ And he did, which was great. But, y’know, it’s part of the collaborative process that exists – everyone is in communication.”
While it’s probably not an MCU-style post-credits scene, (opens in new tab) it begs the question: what could it possibly be? It’s probably not that important to the overall plot; a cool Easter egg or a wink to Star Wars 9 that’s later revisited is far more likely or, as suggested by /Film, a possible Carrie Fisher tribute. Basically, something to tie together the two stories in a galaxy far, far away, or to provide an icon with a fitting send-off.

]]>The post Filming Star Wars: The Last Jedi got Oscar Isaac slapped 27 times by Carrie Fisher appeared first on Game News.
]]>Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Isaac says, “a large amount of the stuff that I got to do was with Carrie, which was amazing.” His first day of shooting involved a scene between Isaac’s character Poe Dameron and Carrie Fisher when Princess Leia was, he says, “very upset with me.”
Upset enough to slap the Rebellion pilot and, as Isaac explains, “often that first day everyone’s trying to get the tone and figure it out” which meant the slap scene was redone numerous times (“Ryan Johnson kept doing it over and over,” says Isaac). The net result? “It ended up being 27 takes of Carrie just leaning in,” explaining Isaac, adding “and every time she’d hit a different spot on my face.”
Despite all the hitting, Isaac concludes that “she was by far one of the quickest witted, funniest, most down to Earth, real human beings I ever had the pleasure to work with.”
You can watch a clip of the interview below.
Following the actress’ tragic death Disney issued a statement (opens in new tab) to say that her appearance in The Last Jedi would be unaffected, as she’d completed all her scenes. However, what will happen with the following, final instalment remains to be seen as Leia reportedly had a large role in Star Wars 10 (opens in new tab).
