While Cox admitted he “doesn’t know what [Marvel]’s plans are”, he pointed to Marvel Studios’ propensity for crossovers compared to its Netflix series counterparts as a major hook.

“I can now interact with other MCU characters,” Cox said. “That would be really cool. Crossovers would be really cool… I don’t know what that looks like and what they’re planning, but there are some really interesting stories there that I’d love the character to explore.”

One path The Man Without Fear could go down is locking horns with long-time nemesis Kingpin. The Netflix-Daredevil version of that character, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, is folded into the MCU thanks to Hawkeye and is bringing their Netflix history with him.

“They’re trying their best to keep Daredevil as part of the canon,” D’Onofrio told us in a recent interview. “Hawkeye is part of the canon of what we did at Daredevil.” 

“It’s not always going to be 100%. There’s a lot of connecting the dots which Marvel is really good at. There’s certain things we can and can’t [do], especially if we make changes to his strength like we have. I’m approaching it as if it’s after the Blip, everybody’s returned, and it’s the same emotionally and character-wise. I play him exactly the way he was in Daredevil.”

Unfortunately for those worldwide, the first reported confirmation for No Way Home’s streaming plans is localized to the US.

As per Deadline (opens in new tab), No Way Home will be available to stream on Starz ‘sometime over the next six months.’ Starz previously struck a deal with Sony that saw the studio’s big releases from 2005 to 2021 end up on the streamer first. No Way Home’s December arrival saw it just sneak in as the last major movie to head straight to that platform.

That’s because, from here on out, Sony’s releases will instead be heading to Netflix for an exclusive 18-month period. 2022’s first wave of Sony blockbusters, including Uncharted and Morbius, will arrive on the streamer after their cinema releases. That could even factor in Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man universe projects, such as the mooted Madame Web movie starring Dakota Johnson.

No word yet on Spider-Man: No Way Home’s general home release or VOD availability, though it’s likely to predate the Starz arrival by a couple of months.

For those outside the US, No Way Home’s streaming options are up in the air. There’s a chance it could hit Netflix in the future, though Far From Home took two years to reach Netflix in the UK. An “unprecedented” Sony/Disney deal, meanwhile, might have laid the groundwork for Spidey’s team-up movie to head to Disney Plus in mid-2023.

Now, Garfield has expanded on the “surreal”, surprisingly low-key moment in a new interview on The Jess Cagle Show (opens in new tab) (H/T ComicBook.com (opens in new tab)).

Explaining how neither man was recognized, Garfield said: “If Tobey and I just kind of put on a baseball cap and wear our Covid N95 masks, we just look like a couple of white guys and that’s kind of that. We’re just two other white guys who like Spider-Man, and we go and get our popcorn and we hang. It was really that simple.”

Garfield continued: “There was no moment where we felt like we were gonna get mobbed. It was really fun, it was a sweet little private hang we had. It was surreal.”

The screening – which was the first time The Social Network actor had ever seen the final cut of No Way Home – was, according to Garfield, “one of those moments that you’ll never forget.”

That goodwill has continued to spread into Spidey’s fanbase. Not long after No Way Home’s release – and Garfield’s many, many denials that he wouldn’t be returning as the webhead – fans started clamoring for The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

While there’s no news on that front, Garfield will always have the memories of kicking back with Tobey Maguire, all while the rest of the audience remained blissfully unaware. That’s big Peter 3 energy.

In a new interview with Variety (opens in new tab), Garfield was keen to stress that he would be up for another appearance if the Spider-stars aligned.

“I mean, yes, [I would] definitely [be] open to something if it felt right,” Garfield said.

Expanding on that answer, Garfield described the character as “a working-class boy from Queens that knows struggle and loss and is deeply empathetic. I would try to borrow Peter Parker’s ethical framework in that.”

Garfield added, “If there was an opportunity to step back in and tell more of that story, I would have to feel very sure and certain in myself.”

While that’s far from definitive, it’s likely going to stoke the fires of that those involved in a campaign to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3 a reality.

But it might have to be a great idea to tempt him back. On the initial No Way Home pitch from producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, and director Jon Watts, Garfield said, “It sounded incredibly fun, incredibly spiritual — trippy and thematically interesting.”

In a prior interview, MJ actor Zendaya revealed how much the trio of Spider-Man actors Garfield, Tom Holland, and Tobey Maguire bonded on-set: “It was so beautiful to see all of you guys connect on that and be able to talk to each other about such a special experience that very few people have been able to don the suit.”

“Calling it now: Andrew will save her,” Destinyman50 said on Reddit (opens in new tab), echoing the thoughts of many who believe that Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man – while conspicuously absent from the second trailer – will undergo a redemption arc and learn from his biggest mistake.

Some fans go one further and believe that Marvel/Sony have edited the trailer just enough to hide the fact that it’s Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, not Tom Holland’s, that reaches out to grab MJ while she’s falling. Take a look for yourself and decide.

If you believe Garfield’s own words, he’s adamant he’s not even in the movie.

“I’m not in [Spider-Man: No Way Home],” Garfield said in an interview on The Today Show (opens in new tab) that aired pre-trailer release. “I love Spider-Man, I always have. I was so happy to have played the part. I’m so excited to see what they do with the third one.”

Not long to go until we find out either way. Spider-Man: No Way Home is swinging into cinemas on December 15 in the UK and December 17 in the US.

Brazilian cinema chain Ingresso (opens in new tab) (H/T ComicBook.com (opens in new tab)) has listed the Spider-Man threequel at 159 minutes (two hours, 39 minutes).

That’s since been removed, leaving only the generic ‘0 minutes’ runtime placeholder on the page. A quick trip back in time with the Wayback Machine, however, confirms that 159 minutes was the original listing.

That would far outstrip both of the wallcrawler’s MCU movies. Spider-Man: Homecoming is 133 minutes while the Far From Home sequel is shorter still at 129 minutes.

Sony’s Spider-Man movies also don’t stack up in terms of runtime. 2002’s Spider-Man (121 minutes), Spider-Man 2 (127 minutes), Spider-Man 3 (139 minutes), The Amazing Spider-Man (139 minutes), and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (141 minutes) all pale by comparison.

In fact, No Way Home could the second-longest Marvel movie ever, with only – what else? – Avengers Endgame’s 181 minutes besting the webhead in the runtime stakes.

It’s worth noting that nothing has been officially confirmed, nor has any other cinema chain verified the information. So don’t get your hopes up too much, though we hope the No Way Home runtime is legit.

After all, it’s got to squeeze in Doctor Strange, a possible Daredevil appearance, and, if recent leaks are to be believed, everyone from the Green Goblin to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men. Phew.
