In a new interview with BBC Radio 1 (opens in new tab), Holland shared how much he values being able to chat with the only other actors to have played Spider-Man on the big screen. Apparently, he once bumped into both Maguire and Garfield at separate parties within a time span of about 20 minutes, and the trio has since become tighter. Holland even admitted to starting up a group chat with the two actors, though he reckoned he’s the only active member.

“We actually do have a Whatsapp group, yeah,” Holland revealed. Initially, the actor said he couldn’t remember how it was set up, but it eventually came to him. “We bumped into Tobey at a Japanese restaurant a while ago and I took his number and then I just, I think, yeah I set it up,” he confessed. “I was like, ‘Guys, listen, we can’t all share each others’ numbers and not have a group chat.'” Interesting… 

All eyes are on Holland to slip up and reveal that Maguire and Garfield really are in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and so far he’s remained steadfast in his denial, but this is certainly curious timing on his part revealing the group chat just before the movie premieres. We already know the movie brings in a bunch of characters from older Spidey movies and other Marvel series, but we’ve yet to see confirmation that Maguire and Garfield appear.

A listing on Entertainment Earth (opens in new tab) (H/T r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers on Reddit (opens in new tab)) features two Spider-Man costumes and Mysterio as part of a No Way Home bundle. The description says there will be “potentially multiversal consequences” and that “each figure draws its inspiration from the movie – and potentially other movies too.”

Those who have been clamoring for the return of ex-webheads Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will surely see their Spider-Senses tingling at those words. But, wait, there’s more.

The toys also make pointed reference to the pack including “sinister people” – a possible less-than-discreet reference to supervillain group The Sinister Six. Various iterations of the team across comics and games have starred the likes of Mysterio, Electro, and Doctor Octopus, among others.

The unseen figures included are listed as ‘Pioneer’, ‘Explorer’, ‘Spy’, and ‘Thunder’. The latter of which, given Jamie Foxx’s slightly too talkative Instagram post in late 2020, indicates that thunder-based baddie Electro is going to be among the group.

The other three are less concrete, though one user on Twitter (opens in new tab) suggests Pioneer could be referring to Tobey Maguire being the first actor to play Spider-Man in a live-action movie, while Explorer is more in line with Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker on the hunt for his missing parents.

Whether it’s the two Spideys or something more sinister, the signs all-but-officially point to Spider-Man 3 being a movie filled with multiverse crossovers and several major returning faces – backing up prior reports surrounding the Marvel Phase 4 movie.

The likes of Kirsten Dunst have been tied to a return in the past, while Doctor Octopus actor Alfred Molina has spoken about his ties to No Way Home previously too. Spider-Man 3, it seems, is going to be grander than anyone expected. Now, how about a trailer?

Spider-Man: No Way Home, starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon, is set to hit cinemas on December 17.

Lego has unveiled the Spider-Man at the Sanctum Workshop build on its official site (opens in new tab). A few things will immediately catch the eye: namely, Doctor Strange and Wong are set to appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme was heavily linked to an appearance in the threequel late last year, but this, when coupled with Marvel’s own official merch spotlight (opens in new tab), confirms Doctor Strange’s appearance, J. Jonah Jameson’s return, and a black-and-gold suit for Spider-Man.

Additionally, Spidey seems to have a slightly altered suit than the ones found in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home, and Avengers: Infinity War. The Iron Man-inspired gold trim stays, however, with black-lined arms.

Wong, rocking a full head of hair, is also found seemingly in the clutches of a robot, while Doctor Strange, Spidey, and Zendaya’s MJ all prepare themselves for attack.

It’s a safe bet that this is likely going to be the all-action follow-up to the very first Spider-Man 3 image. There, Peter, MJ, and Ned were seen sneaking around a shadowy building – something that many thought was the Sanctum Santorum at the time.

There are also two other Lego sets that have appeared alongside the main Sanctum Santorum set.

Spider-Man’s Drone Duel features Spider-Man and Vulture duking it out (opens in new tab) in the skies, while Spider-Man vs. Mysterio’s Drone Attack includes Nick Fury as well as Jake Gyllenhaal’s supervillain. They are, curiously enough, each carrying the No Way Home branding but are “inspired” by Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home respectively. Will these set-pieces be in the final movie? Unlikely, but who’s to say – we may be heading through the multiverse.

There are still some Spideys who are conspicuous by their absence from the Lego sets. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s webheads have long been linked with an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. There’s no official confirmation yet, though Doctor Octopus actor Alfred Molina may have given the game away by revealing details of Doc Ock’s return after his ‘death’ in the Tobey Maguire-starring Spider-Man 2 in 2004.
