The post You can play as the Bernie Sanders inauguration meme in SoulCalibur 6 now appeared first on Game News.
]]>Just when you think you’ve seen Senator Bernie Sanders – and his mittens, of course – in every meme possible, SoulCalibur 6 fans have delivered the ultimate mod to insert him as a playable character in the fighting game.
Using the same chair he selected during US President Joe Biden’s inauguration, Bernie’s able to magically shoot about the place. Here, take a look:
Although it’s possible to create a vast array of different looks thanks to the game’s character creation options, this mod – created thanks to the artistic skills of User619 (opens in new tab) and Twitterer JoeMashups (opens in new tab) – instead replaces Azwel with the might of the mittened warrior (thanks, NME (opens in new tab)).
Do you have the final DLC character for Season Pass 2 in SoulCalibur 6 (opens in new tab)? Fan-favourite Hwang made his first appearance for the fighting series way back in 1995, and has appeared as a playable character in Soul Edge, SoulCalibur, and SoulCalibur 3. Up until now, however, he’d only been an NPC – much to many fighting fans’ frustration.
As with prior DLC characters, Hwang is available for no extra cost for Season Pass holders, but those keen to get Hwang onto their roster without the pass can purchase him separately, too.
Will this be the final season pass for SoulCalibur 6 or does Namco Bandai have more content up its sleeve? The publisher isn’t spilling the beans just yet but, as always, we’ll keep you posted.

Korean fighter Hwang arrives on December 2 along with a new update that also brings new stage Motien Pass Ruins, Seong Mi-Na’s classic costume parts, more Tekken CAS parts, and new Mitsurugi and Nightmare episodes (thanks, Eurogamer (opens in new tab)).
To celebrate, Namco also dropped a new teaser during the latest SoulCalibur Online Challenge held over the weekend:

Original story: Nier: Automata (opens in new tab)’s android heroine 2B will be part of the Soul Calibur 6 season pass, Bandai Namco announced today. No word on when exactly she’ll arrive, but considering this reveal trailer, her development must be fairly far along:
The Soul Calibur games have a history of guest characters like 2B – fighters pulled from other universes and tweaked to fit the weapons-based fighting gameplay the series is known for. Soul Calibur 2 had Link, Heihachi Mishima, and Spawn (depending on your console of choice), Soul Calibur 4 had Darth Vader, Yoda, and The Apprentice from Star Wars, Soul Calibur 5 starred Ezio Auditore from Assassin’s Creed, and of course Soul Calibur 6 prominently features Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher games.
What makes this particular situation kind of funny (in an ironic way) is that 2B was already one of the most prominent characters adapted by players using Soul Calibur 6’s create-a-character mode. Just go to r/SoulCaliburCreations (opens in new tab) and search “2B” to see what I mean. So I wonder: will the players who already made a custom version of 2B feel elated that a character they clearly have a fondness for is now official, or will they be disappointed that their efforts are essentially moot?
The Soul Calibur 6 season pass is $29.99, and along with 2B, includes returning fighter Tira, two more as-of-yet unannounced fighters, and two armor packs. 2B is also bringing with her a unique stage, alternate costume, weapons, create-a-character parts and stickers, and background music inspired by Nier: Automata’s award-winning score.
Still haven’t checked out Nier: Automata? For an action-RPG starring a lolita dress-wearing android, it’s surprisingly touching (opens in new tab). Why not read our interview with Nier: Automata director Yoko Taro (opens in new tab) and see if you feel inspired to give it a try?

]]>The post All those wacky Soul Calibur 6 custom characters are causing problems in ranked mode appeared first on Game News.
]]>In a video (above) posted earlier this week, competitive fighting game player and Soul Calibur champion AvoidingThePuddle (opens in new tab) criticized the decision to allow custom characters in ranked mode. For starters, dubious players can use some items in the character creator to obscure their fighter, making it more difficult for opponents to react to their moves. However, according to AvoidingThePuddle and many other players – like YouTuber Steedoj (opens in new tab) – the main problem is how custom characters differ from the characters they’re based on.
“Customized characters in this game are a false representation of the character that they are portraying,” AvoidingThePuddle said. “I’ve heard many top-level players complain about this. If you create a character that’s using, let’s say, Yoshimitsu’s move list, your created character is giving you a false sense of Yoshimitsu. You will be able to do things that Yoshimitsu cannot do. You’ll be able to escape combos that work on Yoshimitsu. And you will be able to reach further, or higher, or lower than Yoshimitsu because your character is not the same shape or size as Yoshimitsu. This is, like, a disaster.”
Reddit user Wazaaaaa (opens in new tab) posted a useful clip (below) showing how custom characters may differ from genuine characters – in this case, Ivy. Due to hitbox discrepancies between the two, this custom character is able to escape from a combo which would normally stunlock Ivy.
Many players have argued that character inconsistencies like these disrupt competitive play and undermine the spirit of ranked mode. As such, many have called for Bandai Namco to ban custom characters from ranked mode in Soul Calibur 6, or at least lock their hitboxes to ensure a consistent experience. I’ve reached out to Bandai for more information and will update this story if I receive a reply.

]]>“Our role was making sure that the Geralt in Soul Calibur 6 moves, feels and – ultimately – plays like Geralt from The Witcher 3,” CD Projekt Red’s animation director Sebastian Kalemba told Official Xbox Magazine (opens in new tab). “It’s not as simple as one might think. It’s not copy-pasting something from one game to the other. Timings, perspectives, responsiveness – these work very differently in a fighting game and in an open-world RPG. Basically, in order to make this work, it boils down to having to go back to the drawing board on many things.”
As well as focusing on how he looks and feels, CD Projekt Red has brought back voice actor Doug Cockle to make sure that any mid-battle chatter matches up with our memories.
