The post Joss Whedon would return to Marvel to direct a Black Widow movie appeared first on Game News.
]]>“If somebody pointed to me and said, ‘You want to make a Black Widow movie?’ the answer would be ‘Duh.’”, Whedon told IGN (opens in new tab). “For two reasons: I think that character really is very interesting and very earthbound and so it’s the kind of action that I got to do less of with somebody like Thor or The Vision. When you get into your Superman territory it’s harder to maintain that sort of gritty action that the Russo brothers do so beautifully. And she’s got that kind of thing… and really do a spy thriller, really do a good, paranoid sort of John LeCarré on crack sort of thing. Also, Scarlett Johansson is just delightful. She works really hard, but she just spends most of her time cracking me up, so it would be a fun shoot”.
Making the Black Widow movie a spy thriller – a genre mashup that Marvel haven’t tried yet – is a really smart call, and having left Team Iron Man during Captain America: Civil War Natasha is an a really interesting place right now.
The only problem is that it’s currently a little tough to see where Marvel would find the time for a Black Widow movie. Their ‘Phase Three’ schedule is pretty stacked for the next couple years – they have three movies coming out in 2017 and 2018 already – so if Johansson and Whedon ever do get their solo movie it probably won’t be until ‘Phase Four’. I don’t see the demand for a Black Widow movie dissipating between now and then though, so here’s hoping Marvel are as committed as they say they are (opens in new tab) when it comes to delivering the goods.
Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, and starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan, Captain America: Civil War arrives in digital format in the US on September 2. The Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, and DVD hit the UK on September 5 and the US on September 13.

]]>Instead Rowling’s original screenplay whisks us away to a new nook in the magical world. 1920s New York City, to be precise which is where we meet Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander. He’s featured in earlier trailers, and this newest preview straight out of San Diego Comic Con (opens in new tab) sheds light on those escaped creatures he’s desperate to hunt down…
Those of you hoping for a return to the big, showier parts of the Potter cinematic universe ought to be pretty pleased with what’s on offer here. Earlier footage has focused mainly on Scamander’s journey to America, touching briefly on the creatures he has locked away in a battered old suitcase. This one brings out the big guns… literally. Magic knows no bounds, you see, so while his case is small, it contains huge monsters that send the whole of New York into panic. If you were sat on the fence before this trailer might just change your mind.
Directed by David Yates and starring Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Farrell, Samantha Morton, Jon Voight, Gemma Chan, Ron Perlman and Ezra Miller, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is scheduled to arrive in UK and US cinemas on November 18, 2016.

]]>Nothing new, right? Not so fast there. For the most part it treads over similar territory from previous trailers; gang of supervillains go up against another villain, one-liners galore, fight sequences, and Jared Leto doing maniacal like no other. However, there’s a couple of moments that confirm the early rumors that Goliath is the gang’s other adversary.
As Will Smith said himself during the team’s Hall H panel: “This isn’t a movie about good vs. evil, this is a movie about bad vs. evil.”
Directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad will open in the UK and US on August 5, 2016.

While the poster is quite stylish, I’m a little underwhelmed by that trailer; The Luke Cage trailer establishes the tone the show is going for in just 90 seconds, and this Iron Fist footage just doesn’t quite do enough to leave a memorable impression (although the smashing of the wall at the end is a nice touch). It’s far from a deal-breaker though, and given that the show is still filming there’s plenty of time for Iron Fist to get us excited before it lands on Netflix next year.
Starring Finn Jones, Jessica Henwick, David Wenham, Jessica Stroup, Tom Pelphrey, and Carrie-Anne Moss, Marvel’s Iron Fist will debut on Netflix in 2017.

]]>That voice we hear at the end of the trailer is Scott Glenn’s Stick, who we’ve seen in both seasons of Daredevil. That makes me think that the bad guys our heroes will be going up against will be The Hand, who may or may not be led by a resurrected Elektra. But that’s just speculation for now…
Marvel also showed a sizzle reel featuring various clips of their small-screen heroes, which included some fresh bone-breaking footage from Luke Cage (skip to 0:49 to find out what I mean. You won’t regret it.)…
