The best PS5 games list has been pretty static of late as we’ve entered into the realms of slow summer months for game releases. However, with plenty of hotly-anticipated upcoming PS5 games dropping in the next few months, we imagine that this list may not look the same for long.

The quality of the PS5 launch games that arrived with the console back in November 2020 definitely helped kick off the best PS5 games list with aplomb, and has been brilliantly aided by the quality of the PS5 exclusives released so far.

While finding any PS5 stock is still quite the challenge, this collection will do nothing apart from make you more focused to get your hands on one. Whether you want a shot of pure, extra-strength joy from Sackboy: A Big Adventure, a demon challenge from Demon’s Souls, or to feel like a hero in Spider-Man: Miles Morales you’ll find all that and more on this list of the very best PS5 games that are out now, including a good selection of the PS5 launch games.

15. Demon’s Souls

Demon's Souls PS5

Dying horribly at the hands of a soulless monster has never looked so good. The 2009 cult classic, Demon’s Souls, has been completely remade for the 4K age, and is one of the best looking games on the new PS5. The motion capture, textures, and audio might all be new, but the hardcore action is utterly faithful to the original, offering the same brutal learning curve and sense of monumental achievement with every victory. FromSoftware’s original formula has been respected, but there are some new tweaks too, new items, armor and weapons to covet, a change to the amount of healing grass you can carry, and new consumable Grains that offer buffs as you adventure. Whether you’re a veteran warrior or visiting the land of Boletaria for the first time, there’s something special to discover in this iconic adventure.

14. Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Kena: Bridge of Spirits review

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a magical little adventure that’s sure to be a hit with anyone who loves a good platformer with layered combat elements and has a penchant for anything even vaguely adorable. You play as the titular Kena, a spirit guide who has arrived at a village to help those trapped there. You’ll be aided by some of the spirits themselves, but also by the soot sprite-esque Rot, who are not only some of the cutest game companions ever but also incredibly useful for solving puzzles and pulling off some killer moves in battle.

13. Astro’s Playroom

Astro's Playroom

Diving into this little toy box of technical wizardry is a no brainer, it comes installed on your PS5 for free. Don’t discount it just because it’s free though, as well as being a great way to get to know the DualSense’s new adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, it’s a charming game in its own right. Pilot a glider, climb like a monkey, shoot ball guns in space, fight monsters and find collectibles, and enjoy some cheeky nods to PlayStation history along the way. Explore and you’ll find artefacts like UMDs and the original PlayStation, puzzle pieces, and collect coins to have fun with a gachapon machine. It’s a great showcase for the machine’s new technical highlights, and gives you something to do while the next game on your play list downloads.

12. Death’s Door

Death's Door

Death’s Door is a wonderful blend of elements from games like The Legend of Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, and the entire Metroidvania genre. You play as a soul-reaping crow, who is tasked with gathering some of the hardest to reap souls to date. Thus, you’ll have to navigate an isometric world filled with beautiful, bizarre creatures and landscapes. With boss encounters that will hex you and stay with you, this is not one to be missed. The graphics are incredible too, with a lovely touch of Studio Ghibli to its design and characters.

11. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel's guardians of the galaxy key art no logo

We didn’t think it was possible for Eidos Montreal to do its own take on the infamous Marvel space pirates, but with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy it has done just that. You play as Star-Lord, who is leading an early version of the Guardians, just a few years into the crew’s life together. In this version, they’ve all just survived an intergalactic war, with Groot, Rocket, Gamora, and Draxx all coming with their own tales of loss and woe, with almost alt-history backstories. At its heart, this single-player adventure is about learning to operate as a team, both in exploration and combat, and realising that friends can be just as close as family.

10. Hitman 3

Hitman 3

The final entry in this arc of the Hitman story, Agent 47 is the most inventive in the series to date, where anything and everything can be used in your assassination mission. It’s hugely entertaining, with excellent level design, and locales that’ll take you from Dubai to the UK’s Dartmoor in one massive, murderous adventure.

9. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Ubisoft

The historical murder series is back with a bang with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, putting your in the fur-lined shoes of Viking clan leader Eivor. Build a new settlement in ye olde England, bring down kings to forge alliances, and travel with your longship crew to plunder the towns and monasteries of Mercia. This will stand as one of the great entries in the Assassin’s Creed series, thanks to complicated hero Eivor, the brutal combat, and the wealth of customisation options that cover everything from your fighting style to your face tattoo. There’s rarely been a better match for the universe’s lore than the Viking legends either, so you can expect some very interesting tangents as you explore the mysteries of Anglo Saxon England, try to appease the pagan gods, and go on special dream quests. There’s a reason the world has been obsessed with Vikings since they first went pillaging, and Valhalla only makes us love them more.

8. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut

Ghost of Tsushima: Iki Island

The PS5 release of the Ghost of Tsushima is well worth diving into, even if you’ve played it through on PS4. The PS5 version upgrades the game to offer 4K graphics running at 60fps, wonderful DualSense features, and 3D Audio support. The Director’s Cut itself, adds the new Ghost of Tsushima: Iki Island expansion, which is a fantastic new side-story set in an entirely fresh location. You’ll learn more about hero Jin, meet new friends (and foes), and be able to engage with some new side content – including adorable critters. It’s quickly solidified itself as one of the best PS5 games.

7. Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

A perfect platformer packed with delights and surprises, and absolutely stuffed with charm. In Sackboy: A Big Adventure our titular hero visits different planets – think themes like jungle or the sea floor – to foil the plans of the evil Vex (voiced by Richard E Grant) and has lots of fun along the way. As well as looking like a party in a craft store the game is packed with ingenious level design, giving you sticky feet so you can walk up walls, levels that move in time to music, and fun tools like boomerangs and grappling hooks. As a bonus you can collect bells in the game to buy new outfits for your Sackboy, from cute tigers to mix and match punk witch mountaineers. There’s no part of this game that hasn’t been built with buckets of love and a cheery smile, and it shows in every secret corner, ingenious enemy and piece of fluff. Whether you’re getting it for your child, or your inner child, it’ll make your day.

6. Returnal

Returnal

Returnal certainly won’t be a game for everyone, but there’s no denying how well it demonstrates the technological and graphical capabilities of the PS5. This challenging roguelike looks – and feels – absolutely fantastic. Between the haptic feedback bringing the rain of Atropos to your very fingertips through the controller, or the visual splendor of neon against a monotone world, it’s all utterly gorgeous – if a little bleak at times. Like other roguelikes, the moment you die in Returnal, the loop begins again, with our heroine Selene trying to figure out exactly what’s going down on this alien planet. Gain new upgrades, discover new weapons and alien tech, and work your way through the various biomes to reveal some of the truths behind the loops.

5. Elden Ring

Elden Ring

Elden Ring is one of those games where if you’re in, you’re in. This is the best game coming out of FromSoftware since the original Dark Souls, taking its particular brand of gameplay to an open world for the first time. It refines, it evolves, and it tweaks the formula to make sure that suffering in its very specific masochistic style has never been much fun.

4. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart - Ratchet riding a rail into a rift portal

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is right near the top of our best PS5 games for two reasons. Not only is it the best Ratchet and Clank adventure yet, with our heroic duo taking us on an utterly memorable journey with some new friends, but it is also a powerful demonstration of what the PS5 can do. Doctor Nefarious has been at it again, stealing the Dimensionator and ripping holes between dimensions. Ratchet and Clank are split up, flung across the universe through time and space, and enlist the help of fellow Lombax, Rivet, to help stitch the universe back together. Flying through time rifts is utterly seamless, with not a loading screen in sight, and the haptic feedback on the DualSense, along with those adaptive triggers, are used brilliantly. Ratchet and Clank has never looked, played, or been better.

3. Deathloop

Deathloop

Arkane’s latest is another triumph, with Deathloop offering up a murderous puzzle box for players to break open and figure out. Launching as a timed PS5 exclusive, Deathloop is one of those rare games that surprises you, playing out nothing like any of us expected. Lose yourself trying to figure out the mystery of how to kill eight targets in a single day, where all move around the world of Black Reef living their lives – and rudely not just staying put so you can kill them. The more you play and experience the loop, the more you learn, and the more you understand about this strange little time-looping world.

2. Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

The next generation of Spider-Man, both technically and narratively, is packed with comic book adventure, heart and soul, and plenty of that oh so satisfying swinging through New York. As the attention switches from Peter Parker to Miles Morales, so does the action, with focus moving to his home turf of Harlem, and a whole new set of teen turned superhero problems. Miles has some new powers this time around, like the bioelectric venom, and the haptic feedback of the DualSense makes them even more satisfying to dish out to criminals and ne’er-do-wells. Spider-Man: Miles Morales manages the tricky task of delivering a story that Venom punches you right in the heart, but is also a place that you want to escape to after a long day in the real world. Thanks mainly to Miles’ charm, and that sweet swinging, Spider-Man: Miles Morales pulls it off so well you’ll wish Peter Parker a happy retirement without even a tear in your eye.

1. Horizon Forbidden West

Screenshots from Horizon Forbidden West running on PS5

Horizon Forbidden West is such a confident sequel. It’s not reinventing the wheel – it’s another game about saving a world filled with giant robot dinosaurs – but it doesn’t have to. Aloy’s story is just as compelling as the first game, but with more human elements, interesting new character additions, and tonnes more personality than before. It’s got some of the best side quests in the gaming space right now too, and yes, even more robo-saurs. Plus, it’s an absolutely stunning showcase of the power of PS5.

In this new adventure coming to the PS5 from BlueTwelve Studio, you play as a cat in a world filled with robots. As a cat exploring this strange world, you’ll gain a unique perspective from the eyes of a feline who can sneak under cars, traverse over rooftops and go about unnoticed. Viv, the game and creative director at the studio, said, “we are inspired every day by Murtaugh and Riggs, our two cats. Most of the team are cat owners as well, giving us all a lot of helpful first-hand references. Cats are always so playful, cute, and lovingly annoying that it’s an endless stream of gameplay ideas for us.”

You’ll be leading them once again as the fully customizable Boss, and although it’s new faces and new names there’s plenty of the old Saints Row soul here. Just less of the dildobats.

Soul Hackers 2 is looking like it’s going to be one of the key JRPGs of 2022, arriving from developer Atlus and publisher SEGA. This is the long-awaited sequel to Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers – the 1997 RPG for Sega Saturn. Everything has been updated, of course, with Atlus weaving in the Press Turn system from the mainline Shin Megami Tensei games, and the studio striving for a bright and neon visual style. Soul Hackers 2 is set to launch on PS4 and PS5 on August 26, 2022.

Lord of the Rings: Gollum

Developer: Daedalic Entertainment
Publisher: Daedalic Entertainment
Release date: September 1, 2022

We are all so intrigued to see what a game where you play as the dual-personalities of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will actually be like. And thankfully, that’s exactly what Daedalic Entertainment is going to give us. The creature starts out as a prisoner in Barad-dûr, a fortress in Mordor, but eventually, you will traverse more of Middle-Earth, with the developer promising “giant, persistent environments, each harbouring several questlines and a range of friendly or unfriendly faces” in an interview with Edge Magazine in early 2020. During that interview the game is also described as a “stealth-action-adventure with an intriguing dual-personality mechanic, gigantic levels, and a densely wrought aesthetic inspired by Tolkien’s own drawings”.

In fact, Naughty Dog says it’s a true overhaul that will bring the journey that first introduced us to Ellie and Joel to the PS5 without “being encumbered by technology”. With a debut trailer at the Summer Game Fest, we’ve already seen glimpses of changes to the character models and more.

Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2

Developer: Blizzard
Publisher: Activision
Release date: October 4, 2022 (Early Access)

Overwatch 2 is now gunning for an October 4 early access release date – a fact confirmed during the Xbox and Bethesda Games showcase at E3 2022. There, we were treated to some new gameplay footage of the multiplayer team-based first-person shooter, and were likewise shown a new hero expected to make their debut at launch. Junker Queen, a character who’s long been rumored to enter the Overwatch fold, is indeed on their way to Overwatch 2 – packing a shotgun as their primary weapon, and a big two-handed axe as backup. As per the game’s initial reveal way back at BlizzCon 2019, Overwatch 2 is expected to lean heavier on its narrative elements by way of its new Story Missions.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns

Developer: Firaxis Games
Publisher: 2K Games

Teaming up with 12 of Marvel Comics’ iconic heroes in the roster, you play as The Hunter, the very first customizable character in Marvel history. Together you’ll attempt to take down the Mother of Demons, Lillith, in a XCOM / Marvel fusion gameplay scenario.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

Developer: Asobo Studio
Publisher: Focus Home Interactive
Release date: October 18, 2022

The Flight Simulator studio, Asobo, is going back to its original series with a sequel – A Plague Tale: Requiem. The game will follow the original heroes Amicia and Hugo in their quest to survive in the rat-infested city and The Inquisition. With literal seas of rats featured in the game’s reveal trailer, we can only imagine that things have got a lot harder for our brother and sister duo.

Gotham Knights

Gotham Knights

Developer: WB Games Montreal
Publisher: Warner Bros
Release date: October 25, 2022

The long-awaited WB Games Montreal title is Gotham Knights; an open-world, action RPG set in what the dev is calling the “most dynamic and interactive Gotham City yet”. The big story beat is that Batman is dead, leaving the Gotham Knights (Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Red Hood) to protect the city from its full roster of bad guys. This is a completely original story for the upcoming PS5 games list, rather than any kind of re-enactment of the comics. In terms of villains, we know that the Court of Owls are at least involved, but others including Mr. Freeze will also play a part in the game’s narrative. It features drop-in, drop-out co-op too, with the kind of gameplay you’d expect to see from a Batman: Arkham title.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Developer: Infinity Ward
Publisher: Activision
Release date: October 28, 2022

Task Force 141 from the 2019 reboot are back for a sequel in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. We’ll be back with Captain Price and co for a story that continues on from where we left them, with the looming threat of Victor Zakhaev and General Shepherd. Details are light right now, beyond those story details and a release date, so stay tuned.

God of War Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok

Developer: Sony Santa Monica Studio
Publisher: Sony
Release date: November 9, 2022

Ragnarok is coming. Yes, a new God of War game is happening and it’s set to land on the PS5 (and PS4) at some point in 2022. During the latest PlayStation September 2021 showcase, we got a proper look at Kratos’ upcoming return in God of War: Ragnarok, and boy was it quite the trailer. Showing a slightly older Atreus, we got to see a host of different creatures, some helpings of combat, and some new characters we’ll meet. In a blog post (opens in new tab), Santa Monica Studio revealed that the realms are harsher, and we’ll be able to test our fighting prowess against new creatures from Norse mythology. It was also revealed that Cory Barlog is not directing this time around, with Eric Williams taking up the helm.

The Callisto Protocol

The spiritual successor to Dead Space in all but name, The Callisto Protocol is a fresh survival horror game coming from new studio Striking Distance, helmed by none other than Glen Schofield. Its aim is to deliver the most-terrifying next-gen horror experience ever, and from what we’ve seen so far of the game, it’s looking likely to deliver. Set on Jupiter’s moon in 2320, there’s a conspiracy to unfold and horrific creatures to face in this third-person story. A great addition to the upcoming PS5 games.

Sonic Frontiers

Sonic’s going on a brand new adventure, and this time it’s really, really big. You’ll be speeding through Starfall Islands, the location for the game which SEGA is calling ‘open-zoned’, rather than strictly open world. It’s Sonic, but more beautiful than we’ve ever seen it before.

You’ll meet new and returning characters in this tale too, so if you’re a Star Trek fan, this is worth paying attention to.

Now pushed back to 2022 with a new team of writers, it’ll be exciting to see how the story shapes up. Described as a cinematic, choice-based experience with a non-binary protagonist called Fang and a lovely art style, Goodbye Volcano High looks like one to watch out for.

Open Roads

It follows a mother and daughter who set out on a road trip adventure to discover a series of abandoned family properties to discover a mystery and secrets about their own kin long buried. Added to the list of upcoming PS5 games for 2022 after a delay, Adrian Ropp, head of Avalance, wrote in a blog post (opens in new tab) on PlayStation’s official website that the next-gen console will let create immersive experiences that will let “a player practically feel the terror of Inferi bearing down upon them” or “sense the ground rumbling beneath them as a heard of angry centaurs surrounds them”.

Little Devil Inside

Little Devil Inside - Upcoming PS5 games

Developer: Neostream Interactive
Release date: TBC 2022

Little Devil Inside first began life on Kickstarter back in 2015. Fast forward five years later and we see a debut trailer during the PS5 reveal stream with the news that it will be a timed exclusive. As an RPG with survival elements, Little Devil inside is set in the “Victorian-like” era in a semi-open world. The trailer showed off a whole host of monsters and also gave us brief glimpses of some of the combat elements and features. It was easily one of the biggest surprises of the recent showcase.

Forever Skies

Developer: Far From Home
Publisher: Far From Home
Release date: TBC 2022

New studio Far From Home is coming swinging out of the gates with an ambitious project that depicts a world devastated by climate change after humanity’s inaction. Forever Skies sees the player descend into a now environmentally-hostile Earth inside an advanced zeppelin. There will be light combat, but it’s mostly about surviving through resource management, crafting, and puzzle-solving. The aircraft itself will also be key to your survival and could hold the answer to repairing the ecological damage done to Earth. The studio is made up of developers from Techland (Dying Light, Dead Island), The Farm 51 (Chernobylite), Bloober Team (Layers of Fear, Blair Witch), and Larian Studios (Divinity: Original Sin, Baldur’s Gate 3), so plenty of reputable talent is on board, making Forever Skies even more enticing.

Forspoken

Developer: Luminous Productions
Publisher: Square Enix
Release date: January 24, 2023

Where do we start with Forspoken? This game that was “designed for PlayStation 5,” is a console exclusive from Square Enix, and it looks beautiful. The protagonist is seen leaping across cliffs, attacking huge wolves with tree root-esque abilities, and overlooking a gorgeous cloud-filled landscape from the top of a mountain. What’s more is that famed screenwriter and author Gary Whitta (Star Wars: Rogue One, The Walking Dead) is in charge of a team of “A-list writers” working on the game, which means it could be something very special indeed.

Dead Space Remake

According to Capcom, the developer is “reimagining the storyline of the game while keeping the essence of its direction, modernizing the graphics and updating the controls to a modern standard”. From the trailer we’ve had so far, it’s going to be stunning – and horrific.

An open-world action role-player, Flintlock is being made by Ashen developer A44. Blending up close and personal melee axe play and firearms at range, this third person adventure looked stunning during its gameplay showcase at E3 2022, and we can’t wait to see more between now and its tentative “early 2023” release date. Starring protagonist Nor and her companion, Enki, the pair are said to “embark on an epic journey of vengeance, gunpowder, and magic in humanity’s last stand.” Sound good? We think so too.

Diablo 4

Developer: Blizzard
Publisher: Activision
Release date: 2023

As per its gameplay outing during E3 2022, Diablo 4 looks dark, foreboding and terrifying – which is exactly everything we want from Blizzard’s upcoming dungeon crawling action role-playing game. With five classes available at launch in its Necromancers, Barbarians, Sorceresses, Rogues, and Druids, this looks every bit a sequel ten years in the making, and now with a loose 2023 launch date, we’re certain fans of the series are as excited now as ever. First officially revealed at BlizzCon 2019, expect more and more of this in the coming months as Diablo 4 marches towards launch.

Release date: TBC 2023

Settle in for the evening and prepare for another country retreat in the Layers of Fear universe. Layers of Fears (that’s plural) is an updated and enhanced version of Bloober Team’s OG horror venture from 2016, Layers of Fear, that folds in its ‘Inheritance’ DLC and the original’s indirect sequel, Layers of Fear 2. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the old Shining-esque mansion is more terrifying than you remember, but houses a similar number of melting paintings and mind-bending haunted hallways. Said to expand on the original game’s story, expect even more psychedelic, toe-curling horror when Layers of Fears lands at some point in 2023.

Yes, Venom is going to feature as the villain of the new web-slinging adventures. TBC 2023

Capcom revealed a mysterious new game called Pragmata that leaves more questions than it answers, but certainly piqued a lot of interest when it was added to the upcoming PS5 games list. Described as a “thought-provoking game”, the trailer shows someone in what looks like a space suit in a futuristic setting, where they encounter a young girl and holo-cat. While it won’t be coming until 2022, we’re certainly eager to learn more about this rather enigmatic adventure.

Tchia

Tchia is a charming indie gem set to arrive on PS5 sometime in 2022. From developer Awaceb, the open-world tropical adventure is inspired by New Caledonia, and includes some very interesting abilities – such a soul jumping power that lets protagonist Tchia take control of objects and animals. During the PlayStation showcase, we got to see how you can become a dog and even a coconut as you explore the sandbox world. Along with free-climbing, and playing a tune on your ukulele, Tchia certainly looks like one to watch out for.

Publisher: EA
Release date: TBC 2023

Cal Kestis and BD-1 are back in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the follow-up to the brilliant Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Set five years after the original game, it seems like something rather sinister is going down in Star Wars town. Although details are light beyond the teaser trailer, it seems Cal’s lightsaber has fallen into the wrong hands, and things aren’t great for our Jedi in hiding.

Marvel’s Wolverine

Developer: Insomniac
Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
Release date: TBC

Undoubtedly one of the biggest surprises of the PlayStation September 2021 showcase came in the shape of those famous adamantium claws belonging to none other than Wolverine. Yes, a new standalone Wolverine game is currently in early development. While we’re light on details for the moment, we do know Brian Horton is Wolverine’s creative director and Cameron Christian is game director. Horton was creative director on Spider-Man Miles Morales and has also worked on games such as Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Christian previously worked on Spider-Man and Spider-Man Miles Morales, as well as other titles such as Sunset Overdrive.  Insomniac revealed (opens in new tab) its goal is to “respect the DNA of what makes the character so popular, but also try to make it feel fresh” and reflect the studio’s spirit.

Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment and Lucasfilms Games
Release date: TBC

After many rumors began to circulate, the latest Sony showcase confirmed that a remaster of BioWare’s beloved Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is on the way and it’s coming to PS5. Aspyr and Sony Interactive Entertainment are working with Lucasfilm Games to rebuild the classic adventure, which promises (opens in new tab) to bring KOTOR to a new generation with “modern tech, features, visuals, and more, while maintaining the integrity of the story and characters” so many have come to love.

Indiana Jones

Indiana Jones Bethesda game

Developer: MachineGames
Publisher: Lucasfilm Games / Bethesda
Release date: TBC

Bethesda studio MachineGames is working on a brand new Indiana Jones game, in conjunction with the newly established Lucasfilm Games. All we’ve had so far is a tiny teaser trailer, which is more matte painting than gameplay footage. But, from it, we’ve deduced that it’s probably set in Rome in 1937, which would place the game after Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Temple of Doom, and yet before The Last Crusade. It seems to involve ancient stone circles and standing stones, and potentially even a lost race of giant cyclops. Bethesda says we’ll be waiting a while for more info though – including 100% confirmation of whether it is on PS5, seeing as it’s a Bethesda game.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

Developer: Hardsuit Labs
Publisher: Paradox Interactive
Release date: TBC

Looking for a game with a bit of extra bite? Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 puts you in the seedy underbelly of Seattle, which should suit you just fine as a vampire ready to test out your new fangs. Turned as an act of vampire terrorism during the ‘Mass Embrace’, you’ll soon get caught up in vampire faction politics, where you’re still just trying to deal with your new way of life. This is an RPG at its core too, filled with player choices, a strong narrative, and branching dialogue options too.

Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game

Ubisoft Star Wars game

Developer: Massive Entertainment
Publisher: Ubisoft / Lucasfilm Games
Release date: TBC

Another fresh title coming out of the new Lucasfilm Games, this is an open-world Star Wars title from Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment. We don’t know much about the Ubisoft Star Wars game yet, as it’s clearly in very early stages of development, but it will run on Massive’s custom Snowdrop Engine. We’re expecting it to be a photorealistic action-adventure with sprinklings of RPG elements, a la The Division, but obviously set in Star Wars lore. No platforms have officially been confirmed, but expect it to be released on PS5 whenever it does arrive.

Project 007

Project 007

Developer: IO Interactive
Publisher: IO Interactive
Release date: TBC

IO Interactive is gearing up to tell the origin story for James Bond in a brand new game currently titled Project 007. Although details are scarce, and an official name is yet to be revealed, what we do know is that it’s going to be an entirely original James Bond story – so not tied to the novels or films. Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO says that it is “the most ambitious game in the history of our studio”. Exciting times ahead.

Elder Scrolls 6

Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
Publisher:
Bethesda
Release date: TBC

Ah, the Elder Scrolls 6 (opens in new tab). The 37-second trailer that blew the world’s mind at E3 2018. The game that we know nothing about beyond this same trailer, that is in development somewhere within Bethesda Game Studios along with Starfield. Because it is so far away from release, you can bet your bottom coin that it’s going to appear – at some point – on the PS5 (although hopefully not whatever the PS6 could be).

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf

Dragon Age 4

Developer: BioWare
Publisher: EA
Release date: TBC

Although technically no platforms have been announced for Dragon Age 4 – or whatever the next Dragon Age is officially called – at this point it would seem odd not to think of it as an upcoming PS5 game. We may not have a release date yet, but at least we know that Solas and co are making a return at some point in the future. What we have seen is some glorious concept art, and the confirmation that it will continue on from where Dragon Age: Inquisition left off.

New Mass Effect

Developer: BioWare
Publisher: EA
Release date: TBC

It might be quite a way off release, but that isn’t going to stop us being ridiculously overexcited for a brand new Mass Effect game – aka Mass Effect 5. Seemingly picking up after the events of Mass Effect 3, we’ll be seeing some old faces return and some plot lines picked back up. Of course, the big question of whether Shepard will return remains, but we’re ready for everything.

Atomic Heart

Developer: Mundfish
Publisher:
 Mundfish
Release date: TBC

Horror fans should rejoice to hear that Mundfish is bringing Atomic Heart to next-gen consoles. The wild-looking sci-fi horror game only rears its grotesque head every so often, but when it does, the world collectively gasps with shock and intrigue. Its monsters are unforgettable, we’ve already seen a good range of unique alien weapons, and the story already has us asking more questions than we have answers. Atomic Heart looks incredibly ambitious for a smaller studio, and we can’t wait to see if it lands the jump on PS5.

Quantum Error

Developer: TeamKill Media
Publisher: TeamKill Media
Release date: TBC

A multiple Future Games Show alum, Quantum Error is an upcoming next-gen sci-fi horror shooter coming to PS5 at an undisclosed date. With shades of Half-Life, Doom, and Dead Space, you’ll control a skilled fireman from a first-person perspective as you hack at and blast away deep space mutants. Watching the recent 4K PS5 trailer (opens in new tab) from the Future Games Show, you’d never believe a team of just four developers is working on Quantum Error.

A talented DIYer has built their very own PS5 Slim that’s just 2cm tall.

Sony’s latest console is an undeniably powerful machine, but with great power comes a whopping great piece of hardware that you’ll struggle to find room for next to your TV. There’s no denying that there’s a lot going on under the PS5’s hood, but does the console need to be so large to run visual masterpieces like Horizon Forbidden West? Not according to YouTuber DIY Perks (opens in new tab)

If previous generations are anything to go by, Sony will be planning to release a slimmed-down version of the PS5 in the coming years. But DIY Perks has already beaten them to it by cramming the capability of the PS5 into a case just 2cm tall, that’s only a teensy bit more than a DVD case.

The YouTuber shows how they managed to do it in a video titled “Building the world’s first PlayStation 5 Slim”. As the footage shows, a huge portion of the console’s size comes from its cooling system, which is removed and replaced with a water system that’s fitted alongside an external power supply. So while it’s not exactly every component of the console squeezed into a tiny space, it’s still an impressive feat.

The project is the result of months of work, and the YouTuber was understandably nervous when it came time to testing it out. Unfortunately, the console initially wouldn’t turn on and then froze entirely, but after some additional tinkering, they were eventually able to get it working. You can see it flawlessly running Aloy’s latest adventure around 27 minutes into the video.

This slimmed-down PS5 would undoubtedly save you plenty of space, but unless you’re extremely well versed in the inner workings of the console, you should probably wait until Sony develops an official slim option rather than creating your own homebrew version.

Take full advantage of the power of Sony’s latest console with our pick of the best PS5 games to play right now.

E3 2022 has come and gone with very few new additions to the PS5 exclusives list. However, that will no doubt change as the year powers on, with Sony always set to make its announcements outside of the traditional summer gaming news season.

If you’ve managed to grab a PS5 stock update then these are the games you’re going to at least want to add to your wishlist. After all, what good is a PS5 if you can’t make your PS5-less friends jealous by playing all the exclusive games you can’t play anywhere else.

Because we’re still relatively early in the console’s life cycle, which means the majority of PlayStation games are cross-gen, meaning they launch simultaneously on PS5 and PS4. Further narrowing the pool of true-blue PS5 exclusives are cross-platform games, which are available on Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch. All that being said, there is an ever-growing list of actual, honest-to-goodness PS5 exclusives that you truly can’t play on any other platform, and we’ve collated every single one of them into this handy guide.

Read on for all the PS5 exclusives available now or confirmed.

Astro’s Playroom

Astro's Playroom

Astro’s Playroom may seem like a mere tech demo to showcase the new PS5 features, from ray tracing to the adaptive triggers of the DualSense PS5 controller, but that assumption couldn’t be farther from reality. This pocket-sized adventure (around 3 hours of length, with potentially more for the platinum) is an endearing tribute to the PlayStation franchise, featuring callbacks to previous consoles and games. But it also manages to provide a platforming experience that is charming as it is polished, and the fact that it comes pre-loaded with the console means that you can, and should, start playing right away while you finish setting everything up.

Demon’s Souls

Demon's Souls

All stories start somewhere. FromSoftware’s legacy began 11 years ago with Demon’s Souls, one of the most intriguing and challenging titles of the PS3 era. Now, under Bluepoint’s vision (the studio that brought back Shadow of the Colossus) the beginning of the ‘soulsborne’ genre gets the remake treatment on PS5. This is the same experience we remember, but it’s almost indistinguishable over a decade later. With only a few touches here and there in terms of gameplay, Demon’s Souls’ biggest change comes from the way it looks and plays on this new console generation – it’s a remarkable PS5 launch game that you shouldn’t miss.

Destruction AllStars

Destruction AllStars

Destruction AllStars introduces itself as a new IP of multiplayer competitive racing. Don’t picture it as regular races, however – this is akin to the battle arenas of the Twisted Metal series or the collisions that you would see in a Burnout game, packed with a cast of 16 distinct characters. Perhaps its biggest twist comes when your car is destroyed: you will automatically enter a third person view of your racer and move them around the map as if it was a different game. Its player base isn’t as active as it was at launch, but if you can find a match in a timely matter it can be a fun way to spend a couple hours with your PS5.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

Insomniac Games’ Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is as triumphant a return as they come for the titular duo; a visual showcase for the PS5, a well-written story right up there with the best Pixar movies, and simply a blast of a platformer from front to back. If you want something to show off what your PS5 can do, you can’t beat Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and it comes with the bonus of being an incredibly polished, well-made platformer/shooter even without considering its technical accomplishments.

Returnal

Returnal

As stunningly beautiful as it is blisteringly challenging, Housemarque’s 2021 roguelike Returnal will test your patience at the same time as it challenges your expectations about what’s possible in the new generation. It makes full use of Sony’s new hardware to deliver a visual spectacle, buttery smooth performance, and a new level of immersion thanks to its creative utilization of the DualSense’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. Returnal is another fantastic choice to wow your friends and family with as you show off your PS5, but don’t make them too jealous as you’ll likely need their support after you die for the thousandth time.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade

It’s an expanded and remastered version of one of 2020’s best RPGs, itself a remake of one of the best RPGs of all time, and you absolutely need to play it if you have a PS5. Make no mistake, this is more than just a simple remaster. Intergrade itself adds “classic” battle controls for the game’s normal difficulty mode, a photo mode, and improved frame rate and resolution. But the PS5-exclusive Yuffie DLC, formally titled Episode Intermission, is a whole new chapter where you get to play as Yuffie Kisaragi.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade is available as a free upgrade from the PS4 version, but Episode Intermission is a paid expansion unless you bought Intergrade as a standalone purchase.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered

Marvel's Spider-Man

A beautifully remastered version of one of 2018’s best superhero games, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered takes an already great game and makes it better. Thanks to 4K resolution, ray tracing support, and a buttery smooth 60 FPS (in performance mode), swinging around New York City as Spider-Man and beating up goons is more satisfying than ever. The framerate boost is especially appreciated during fast-paced, high-intensity scenes, which let’s face it, make up about 90% of the game. Even if you’ve played the original game on PS4 already, be sure to pick up the remaster (it’s free if you own the game on PS4) and give it another go.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Ghostwire Tokyo PS5 screenshot

If you fancy taking a stroll through an empty, totally haunted version of the Japanese capital, then Ghostwire: Tokyo is the PS5 exclusive for you. Although it is also available on PC, it’s a PS5 console exclusive, and really does look excellent on Sony’s latest console. You play as the last human in a Tokyo where all the other living things – bar some adorable dogs, cats, and tanooki – have been whisked away to the spirit world. You’ll need to rescue your sister and discover the stories of the spirits that still linger, trapped between worlds, all the while fending off all the horrific creatures that do roam the streets. It’s creepy, atmospheric, and a fantastic world to exist in.

Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 review screenshots

PlayStation’s premium racing sim is back with Gran Turismo 7. Although it’s had a ropey launch with online and maintenance issues, and discussions around updates making the need for microtransactions slightly more prevalent, it’s still a fantastic racer. It’s a huge and utterly beautiful racing game that will no doubt earn it a position among the best PS5 games of all time eventually.

Upcoming PS5 exclusives

Forspoken

Big in 2022: Forspoken

Release date: May 25, 2022

Forspoken seems like a highly ambitious project, even for prolific publisher Square Enix. It’s being developed by an all-star team of talent called Luminous Productions, formed from the dev team behind Final Fantasy 15. Better yet, Square Enix recruited Gary Whitta (of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story fame) and Amy Hennig (creative director on the first three Uncharted games) to build the world and write the story.

Forspoken stars a young woman named Frey from New York City, who celebrates her 21st birthday by being transported to the world of Athia, “where fantasies and nightmares are suddenly very real”, reads the Sony blog post. It’s coming sometime in Spring 2022 exclusively on PS5.

Final Fantasy 16

Final Fantasy 16

Final Fantasy 16 is dropping exclusively on PS5 at some point in Summer 2023. Set in the world of Valisthea, the people there once lived in peace thanks to the crystal mountains found there, known as the Mothercrystals. But, that wasn’t meant to last, as there’s now a Blight spreading across the world. The story will revolve around humans called Dominants, who are able to control Eikons, which are deadly and incredibly powerful creatures. Gameplay wise, this will be an interesting change in combat style, with a more action-orientated focus.

Horizon Call of the Mountain is an upcoming PSVR2-exclusive game based in the Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West universe and developed by Guerrilla Games. Main Horizon protagonist Aloy will be in the game in some form, but Horizon Call of the Mountain stars a brand new protagonist. If that isn’t enough to excite you, former Forbidden West world designer Chris James recently said Call of the Mountain will “change what AAA means for VR,” which is honestly almost too much hype for us to handle right now.

Spider-Man 2

Announced during the 2021 September PlayStation showcase last year, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will see the two Spider-Men – Peter Parker and Miles Morales – team up. There’s only been a teaser trailer so far and a loose 2023 release window, but we know we’ll be ready to swing through New York again when it drops.

God of War: Ragnarok

Coming in 2022

God of War: Ragnarok is that kind of sequel that any tidbit of news is poured over with a fervor. Following on the narrative from the 2018 God of War reboot, we’ll back with Kratos and Atreus ahead of the world-shattering Ragnarok event, as they search for answers – and allies. Various Norse Gods and monsters will try to stand in their way as they travel the Nine Realms sometime in 2022.

Horizon Forbidden West

Aloy’s second adventure arrived in March 2022, taking her to lands anew. As the title suggests, Horizon Forbidden West sees Aloy heading west into locales like Las Vegas and San Francisco in search of the source of a blight that’s killing the Earth. What she finds are new tribes, fresh threats, but also friends old and new. It’s a brilliant tale in one of the most impressive and full open-worlds to date.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Sackboy: A Big Adventure launched as a launch title for PS5, but also dropped simultaneously on PS4. However, it’s definitely best experienced on the newer console as the game really looks fantastic, and utilises the haptic feedback in the Dualsense to great effect. It’s Sackboy’s first foray away from the LittleBigPlanet name too, so don’t expect the creative elements of that original series here. This is a stunning story-driven title, with support for co-op too. It’s inventive, playful, and utterly adorable, so well worth a play.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Arriving as a PS5 launch title, and also launching on PS4, this smaller Spider-Man story follows the titular Miles Morales as a direct sequel to the last PS4 Spider-Man game. He’s just got his powers, and he’s figuring out how to be his own version of the friendly neighbourhood superhero. Peter Parker is his mentor, but he has his own powers – including electric venom blasts, camouflage, and other gadgets. It’s set in the same world but with the focus being on Spanish Harlem, and Morales’ immediate friends and family. It might be a more compact story than the main Spider-Man entry, but Spider-Man: Miles Morales is probably more impactful.

Sony has now announced the launch date of its new PS Plus tier system, with each of the three new services hitting consoles on June 13. We’ve also got an insight into the kinds of games we can expect on the service at launch, with big names like Ghost Of Tsushima Director’s Cut and Demon’s Souls leading the charge. So, ahead of that June release date, we’re helping you work out exactly which PS Plus tiers you should be interested in.

PS Plus (now called PS Plus Essentials), PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium all offer a slightly different experience, based on how far back into Sony’s library you want to journey. We’re showing you exactly what you get for each tier’s price, and rounding up who should be interested in each one right here.

TL;DR PS Plus tiers compared PS Plus EssentialsPS Plus ExtraPS Plus Premium Monthly Price$9.99 / £6.99$14.99 / £10.99$17.99 / £13.49Three Month Price$24.99 / £19.99$39.99 / £31.99$49.99 / £39.99Annual Price$59.99 / £49.99$99.99 / £83.99$119.99 / £99.99IncludesPS PlusPS Plus + 400 PS4 / PS5 gamesPS Plus + 400 PS4 / PS5 games + PS1, PS2, PSP downloads and streams

Of course, if you’re perfectly happy right where you are, nothing needs to change. In fact, we’re seeing some particularly strong PS Plus deals on what is now considered PS Plus Essentials right now.

Which PS Plus tier should you choose?

If you were to play just one or two games a year from that 400 game-strong collection, this Extra tier would be worthwhile.

The two new PS Plus tiers are remarkably similar in price. The PS Plus Extra membership adds 400 PS4 and PS5 games to your collection for the duration of your subscription, and comes in at $14.99 / £10.99 per month, or $99.99 / £83.99 per year. However, retro fans can also upgrade to a whole roster of PS1, PS2, and PSP games for just $3 / £3 more a month (or $20 / £16 a year). If you’re keen to revisit PlayStation’s classics, this decision is a no-brainer. Yet if you don’t think you’ll play them, that’s an annual price difference large enough to warrant a second thought – particularly if you’ve just had to shell out a tidy amount for a PS5 restock.

It’s especially tricky because the PS Plus Extra tier represents a larger price jump over the original PS Plus system. The old subscription is holding onto its previous price, which means there’s a $4 / £4 difference a month – escalating to an annual price difference of $40 / £34. That’s double the price of the original subscription (before the increases in 2017 and 2019).

Still, if you were to play one or two games a year from that 400-strong game collection, this Extra tier would be worthwhile (it’d certainly put the best PS5 SSDs to good use). It’s just a case of whether your backlog can take the additional pressure.

Choose PS Plus Essentials if you:

  • Are happy with your current setup
  • Have already played the biggest PS4 / PS5 games
  • Don’t have an interest in Sony’s retro catalog

Choose PS Plus Extra if you:

  • Have joined Sony with the PS5 generation
  • Would play at least one or two games from the collection per year
  • Want more from your console’s subscription

Choose PS Plus Premium if you:

  • Have no other way of playing through Sony’s retro collection

How does PS Plus compare with Game Pass?

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate

The latest moves by Sony bring PS Plus into an era which Xbox Game Pass has been dominating. Microsoft’s subscription service has carried its consoles through some rocky shores, with the whole Xbox brand emerging better for it on the other side. That’s some stiff competition, and a value proposition that Sony is attempting to match with its latest announcement.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is the closest direct link to the PS Plus service. Both of these subscriptions are necessary for online play and come with their own unique discounts as well.

The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate price is $14.99 / £10.99 a month, for over 300 games and select day one releases. That price is exactly the same on PlayStation, with the comparable PS Plus Extra tier coming in at $14.99 / £10.99 as well – however you’re upping your roster to 400 games and dropping those shiny new releases. It’s also worth mentioning that Game Pass Ultimate also has its fair share of Xbox 360 titles – a generational jump you’ll need to spend $17.99 / £13.49 on with Sony.

That means PS Plus doesn’t quite have Game Pass in a chokehold quite yet. Sure, there’s a slightly larger catalogue of titles up for grabs (the quality of that roster will be down to personal taste, of course), but you’re Sony isn’t including day one releases in its package. That’s a considerable sacrifice if you’re still between the two systems.

Knowing how to mute a PS5 controller mic is vital with the new integrater controller microphone constantly in your hands at all times. The PS5 controller mic is turned on by default, something you’ve likely realised by all the chatter coming from other people when you go online.

So if you want to know how to mute the PS5 controller mic so you don’t accidentally broadcast your every word to people across the planet while you play in online matches, we can help with that. Obviously if the stars have aligned and you’ve managed to buy a PS5 there’s a ton of new and interesting features to get to grips with, but not all of them are necessary. Thus if you want to keep your voice off PSN, here we explain how to mute the PS5 controller mic, as well as muting your entire PS5 system at the push of a button.

How to mute a PS5 controller mic

There are two ways to mute the PS5 controller mic, with the easiest being to simply tap the Mute button directly below the PS button on your pad. The button will light up orange to indicate that the DualSense mic has been muted, and you’ll also briefly see a mute icon appear in the top right corner of your screen. Alternatively, you can tap the PS button to access the control centre icons along the bottom of the screen, then press X on the Mic icon (if you haven’t hidden it by pressing Options) and select the Mute prompt.

To unmute the PS5 controller mic, either tap the Mute button again so the light goes out, or select the Mic icon from the control centre and hit the Mute prompt.

A neat feature which isn’t well know is that you can quickly mute both the PS5 controller mic and all sound output from your system, which is handy if you need to speak to someone, take a phone call, check a video on your phone etc. To do this, briefly press and hold the Mute button until all sound output stops, at which point you’ll see the button blinking orange to indicate your entire PS5 system has been muted.

To unmute your PS5 system, either tap the Mute button to turn off the light, or select either of the Sound or Mic icons from the control centre and choose the Turn Off Muting prompt.

Knowing how to turn off the PS5 adaptive triggers and haptic feedback is a fair request – the more immersive button reactions aren’t for everybody, whether it’s a matter of personal preference or accessibility. For that reason, we’ve laid out how to switch off the PS5 adaptive triggers in the PS5 menu below.

  • From the PS5 home screen, go to the gear icon to open Settings
  • Scroll down to Accessories
  • Scroll down to Controllers
  • To disable the haptic feedback, choose Vibration Intensity and set it to Off
  • To disable the adaptive triggers, choose Trigger Effect Intensity and set it to Off

If you have more than one DualSense controller you’ll need to change the settings for both. To turn them back on, or adjust the strength of either sensation, just head back into the same menu.

If you have any other questions about the PS5 we’ve got you covered below with our wealth of guides, from simple things like finding that power button (harder than you think) to all the games you’re going to want to play on your new machine.

Can you play PS5 games on PS4? The recent emphasis on cross-generation and backwards compatibility means that it’s a fair question to ask whether games can work across generations the other way too. The whole thing is liable to get more than a little confusing, because when it comes to the question ‘Can I play PS5 games on PS4?’, there are actually a few answers. we’ll take you through them below, simply and easily.

Can you play PS5 games on PS4? Technically no

Okay, so the short answer on this topic is, technically no, you can’t play PS5 games on your PS4. Upcoming PS5 games that have been confirmed as PS5 exclusives – including the likes of God War: Ragnarok – will not be playable on PS4 whatsoever. These are titles that have been specifically built to take full advantage of the new PS5 features, including that super speedy SSD, fresh controller upgrade, and tasty graphical enhancements.

Some PS5 exclusives are also launching on PS4

But, there’s a caveat to that. Some of the PS5 launch games – plus Horizon Forbidden West – have been confirmed for a simultaneous PS4 release. So, that means if you want to play the likes of Sackboy: A Big Adventure or Spider-Man: Miles Morales, you’re in luck. There will be a PS4 version of these big PS5 games available.

Lots of games are launching across the generation gap

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4

Another element of the whole PS5 games on PS4 conversation is that a lot of games are launching across PS4 and PS5 – including plenty getting free PS5 upgrades such as Fortnite, Marvel’s Avengers, and even Cyberpunk 2077. So if you want to be cheeky, you can say you’re playing a PS5 compatible game on your PS4 until you’re ready to make the upgrade.

Wondering how to eject a PS5 disc? Don’t worry, new technology always requires a little learning, and this big new console is no exception. There’s actually two ways to take a disc out of a PlayStation 5, either with hardware or software, depending on whether you feel like actually getting out of your chair (though obviously you’ll still have to go get the disc once it’s out). Still, we’ll lay out all the ways on how to eject a PS5 disc below.

1. Eject a PS5 disc with the dedicated eject button

PS5

First up in your quest to find out how to eject a PS5 disc is the physical eject button located on the console itself. There are two very thin, pill-shaped buttons near the bottom of the console – one is your power button, and the other is the eject button. If you’re standing your console vertically, the eject button is the top button; if you’re going sideways, it’s the button on the left. Both the eject and power buttons are quite difficult to see, and neither are labelled, so it’s easy to push the power button by mistake.

2. Eject a PS5 disc via the UI

Eject PS5 disc

Another way to eject a PS5 disc without having to scrabble about with the buttons on the console itself and that’s via the UI. On the home screen, head to the tile for the game that you’re wanting to eject the disc for – it’s handily usually the first one on the rung.

Press the Options Button on your PS5 controller – it’s the one on the right by the Triangle Button with the three lines by it. This will bring up a little menu, including the option to check for updates, and more. But right there at the very bottom is the option to eject the disc. Hit that, and the disc will pop out of the PS5 as if by magic.

Several PlayStation players have reported that they are unable to redeem their pre-paid PS Plus and PS Now cards due to Sony reportedly blocking them.

As shared by Push Square (opens in new tab), it looks like Sony could be blocking the activation of pre-paid PS Plus and PS Now cards ahead of the PS Plus revamp happening this summer. According to several users online, whenever they’ve tried to redeem pre-paid cards the PS Store just shows an error message that reads: “The pre-paid card could not be redeemed. Please try again later.”

@AskPlayStation @PlayStation could you please look into it? The Seller is saying the problem is with you guys, that the codes are active and working, but I can’t redeem them, what can I do?April 27, 2022

This could be due to Sony cracking down on those who are attempting to stack subscriptions to get the new PS Plus membership for a cheaper cost. The thinking behind this comes from the fact that PlayStation Now/Plus subscribers will be moved over to PlayStation Plus Premium (the top tier of the PlayStation subscription service) for no additional cost for as long as their current subscription is active. Once it runs out though, you will be charged the new amount.

What some people had planned to do (opens in new tab) is stack up multiple yearly subscriptions in order to get the cheapest price for as long as they could. PlayStation, of course, doesn’t seem to be a fan of this loophole so has apparently temporarily stopped people from redeeming their pre-paid cards with the intention of doing this.

According to the Push Square story, Sony Support is responding to players who are confused about why their cards don’t work with something along the lines of: “As of now there is a temporarily deactivated function for PS Plus/PS Now subscriptions which does not allow for stacking of either membership on already active memberships.”

The email continues: “This is only temporary and as soon as we have more information about we will let our players know, for more information regarding news for the new launch of our service please check out our blog.”
