]]>There’s a lot to see and do in the Pokemon Sword and Shield Wild Area. You can chat to NPCs, take part in the challenging Max Raid Battles, earn and spend Watts, and so much more. This Pokemon Sword and Shield Wild Area Guide details all of the wild Pokemon you can find in the north and south sides of the space, your chance of encountering them, and lists the weather conditions that they will typically spawn in.
Note: The ‘Overworld’ refers to the Pokemon Sword and Shield critters you can actually see before you encounter them – they wander freely around the surface of Galar. ‘Non-Overworld’ refers to encounters that happen when an exclamation mark pops up in tall grass.

]]>The post Pokemon Legends Arceus trails Animal Crossing as the second fastest-selling Switch game in Japan appeared first on Game News.
]]>Earlier today, Japanese publication Famitsu (opens in new tab) reported that Pokemon Legends Arceus, which launched last week, had surpassed 1.425 million copies sold in Japan in just three days. This makes it the second fastest-selling Nintendo Switch game ever in Japan, placing just behind Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Additionally, Pokemon Sword and Shield are now positioned as the second best-selling Pokemon games ever. According to Nintendo’s new sales data (thanks, ResetEra (opens in new tab)), the two games now sit at a combined 23.90 million units sold worldwide, overtaking Pokemon Gold and Silver to become the second best-selling games in the historic franchise.
However, the two games are still a fair bit behind the number one position. Sitting at the top of the list are Pokemon Red, Green, and Blue, which to date have sold a staggering 31.38 million units worldwide. That figure probably isn’t rising anytime soon, given how old the three games are, but it’s highly unlikely that Sword and Shield would ever overtake the trio to take the crown.
Pokemon Legends Arceus might’ve just launched last week, but it seems it’s already a hit with the massive fanbase around the world. To find out why we rewarded Game Freak’s latest effort with a prestigious 4.5/5 stars, and called it a “refreshing take on the Pokemon formula,” you can head over to our full Pokemon Legends Arceus review for more.

]]>The post Check out the full Pokemon x Adidas lineup of shoes, shirts, bags, and more appeared first on Game News.
]]>There are 34 shoes, garments, and bags in the collaboration (opens in new tab), with about half available to Japanese customers now, and then the other half either coming soon or sold out. Unfortunately, it looks like only a few of these items are available outside of Japan at the moment, but Adidas could always bring more to its international stores in the future.
True to its roots, Adidas has made the shoes the star of the show here. I especially like this Advantage pair (opens in new tab) that just has some subtle Pikachu accents on the outside, as you can see in the image above. And then, oh, there’s the cute little electric mouse waving hello on the inside!

If you keep your feet together, everyone will think you’re just wearing some stylish white and yellow sneakers, but on the inside your Pikachu love is revealed. It’s the best of both worlds. Outside of shoes, the crossover collection includes this sleek sweatshirt (opens in new tab) with the Pokemon logo on one sleeve, the Adidas stripes on the other, and PIkachu peeking out from the side with a soccer ball.

Continuing the “Pikachu loves a good soccer ball” theme, there’s this adorable little Pokemon organizer bag (opens in new tab). Like the sweater, it’s available in both black and red, but I prefer the way the red brings out the color in his little electricity-storing cheeks.

The whole range is worth checking out, even if you don’t see a trip to Japan in your immediate future – hopefully more will come out overseas, and failing that, there’s always importing.
Those shoes would pair great with some custom Pokemon button-downs (opens in new tab).

]]>The headlining factoid comes from 4Gamer (opens in new tab), which reports that Pokemon Home Switch users who have multiple accounts on one console will have the option of maintaining individual Pokemon Home collections or combining them into one big bank. This is the first we’ve heard of this feature, and it could use a bit of clarification from Nintendo itself. For now, here’s the full quote from 4Gamer via Google Translate:
“With [the] Nintendo Switch version [of] Pokemon Home, these eight users can manage boxes individually, but it is also possible to call multiple users’ data to one Pokemon Home and deposit or call Pokemon … In other words, the family can share the Pokemon Home and complete [the Pokedex] together, or use a single Nintendo Switch to exchange Pokemon.”
Several other outlets examined the features and limitations of the app’s trade and transfer functions. For instance, you won’t be able to send Pokemon Eggs to Pokemon Home, and if you bring in Pokemon from Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee, you’ll need to move them to Pokemon Sword or Shield to retain their abilities. For this reason, the app’s Global Trade System, wherein players search for specific Pokemon to trade for, will let you view which game a Pokemon came from. You’ll also be able to filter your own collection by region, allowing you to check Pokemon from Kanto, Johto, Galar, and so on.
Finally, here are a few screenshots collated by Serebii (opens in new tab) which show off the mobile version of Pokemon Home. From left to right, we have the Friend Trade, Global Trade System, and Wonder Box interfaces.

]]>
If you’re looking to evolve a female Snorunt or male Kirlia, you’ll want to get your hands on a Pokemon Sword and Shield Dawn Stone (opens in new tab).

The Pokemon Sword and Shield Dusk Stone (opens in new tab) can be used to evolve both Lampent and Doublade into Chandelure and Aegislash respectively, and we know where to get them.

A classic, the Pokemon Sword and Shield Fire Stone (opens in new tab) evolves three Gen 1 Pokemon; Vulpix, Growlithe, and Eevee.

You can evolve Eevee into Glaceon and Galarian Darumaka into Galarian Darmanitan with a Pokemon Sword and Shield Ice Stone (opens in new tab).

Get your hands on a Pokemon Sword and Shield Leaf Stone (opens in new tab) to evolve Nuzleaf, Gloom, and Eevee (into Leafeon).

Another classic first discovered in the series in Mt. Moon, the Pokemon Sword and Shield Moon Stone (opens in new tab) can be used to evolve Clefairy into Clefable and Munna into Musharna.

Ooh, shiny! The Pokemon Sword and Shield Shiny Stone (opens in new tab) will evolve Minccino, Roselia, and Togetic.

Gloom gets another evolution in the form of Bellossom with the Pokemon Sword and Shield Sun Stone (opens in new tab), and you can also evolve Cottonee and Helioptile.

Use the Pokemon Sword and Shield Thunder Stone (opens in new tab) to evolve everyone’s favourite mouse, Pikachu, along with Eevee (into Jolteon) and Charjabug.

The Pokemon Sword and Shield Water Stone can be used to evolve Lombre into Ludicolo, Shellder into Cloyster, and Eevee into Vaporeon.

On to non-stone evolution items now, and the Pokemon Sword and Shield Metal Coat (opens in new tab) is what you need to evolve Onix into Steelix.

If you want to evolve Pokemon Sword and Shield Feebas (opens in new tab) into Milotic, you’ll need to get your hands on a Prism Scale and trade it.

The Pokemon Sword and Shield Protector (opens in new tab) is used to evolve Rhydon into Rhyperior, but only when you trade it while it’s holding one.

The ominously named Pokemon Sword and Shield Reaper Cloth (opens in new tab) will evolve Dusclops into Dusknoir when traded.

Get your hands on a Pokemon Sword and Shield Sachet (opens in new tab) and you’ll be able to evolve Spritzee into Aromatisse when it’s traded.

To evolve Swirlix into Slurpuff, you’ll need to trade it while it’s holding a Pokemon Sword and Shield Whipped Dream (opens in new tab).

]]>The post Pokemon Sword and Shield den locations appeared first on Game News.
]]>It’ll be something that you want to know too. Firstly, Watts are as important as regular money in Pokemon Sword and Shield, so farming them can net you some massive benefits. Secondly, it’s always handy to know where to look for a Raid if you notice that someone in the Communication window is looking for teammates in Giant’s Mirror, or Lake of Outrage, or wherever else. If you know where each Poke Den in each area is, you can check the Raid out for yourself in no time.
So, to make things a little more convenient, we’ve compiled a Poke Den map that documents the location of each and every Pokemon Sword and Shield den location in the Wild Area. Or rather three maps, given that the Wild Area is too big for just the one. Here’s our Pokemon Sword and Shield Den locations guide, with clearly mapped locations of every Poke Den in the Wild Area.

(opens in new tab)
Before you go hunting Poke Dens using the maps above, there are some important things to note: in Pokemon Sword and Shield, your Town Map doesn’t pick up your precise location. Whether you’re at the top of a lake or the bottom, the map will just place a smiley face in the general vicinity surrounding you, meaning that it can be tough to find a specific point of reference.
For the sake of these maps, the Poke Dens themselves should be reference enough: if you, for example, come across a cluster of Poke Dens that resembles a similar group on the map, you can then use that as a sort of anchor landmark to find the rest of the dens. At the beginning of the game it probably isn’t worth your while to visit every single Pokemon Sword and Shield den locations in one go, but once you become Champion you’ll get 200 Watts per Poke Den, and a whopping 2,000 Watts if it’s a Poke Den with a Raid. As a result, you can easily rack up thousands of Watts in a matter of minutes, especially considering you’ve got access to your Rotom Bike.

There are several reasons as to why farming Poke Dens for Watts is an important thing to do in Pokemon Sword and Shield. First of all, Watts are a unique currency that you can spend on all sorts of items. There are Watt Traders dispersed sporadically across the Wild Area, each of whom offers the following:
– A type of special ball (Net Ball, Dive Ball, Timer Ball, etc
– Wishing Pieces (inserted into empty Dens to trigger Raids)
– TMs, or as they’re often called now, “TRs” (single-use items that teach Pokemon a new move
If you’re considering getting into competitive battling in Gen 8, it’s essential you stock up on as many strong TMs as you can. The meta is rigid at times, and having a Pokemon with a less-than-ideal moveset will likely mean you’ve lost before you even begin.
To build on this, only Pokemon caught in Raids can Gigantamax. You might have a level 100 Charizard, but unless you caught him at a Poke Den with a light bursting out the top, it’s not going to be as effective as a Charizard with access to G-max. As a result, it’s well worth your while to keep an eye on what Raids are currently happening. If none strike your fancy, don’t be afraid to use a few Wishing Pieces—you can always get more just by farming Watts anyway, and, if you’re lucky, one of the NPCs offering treasure in exchange for 100 Watts might be able to source you one for dirt cheap. Also, completing Max Raids nets you TMs, EXP candies, and a wide range of other rare items that would be difficult to come across otherwise.

If you’ve managed to exhaust every Pokemon Sword and Shield den locations in the Wild Area, don’t worry: they will regenerate with new Raid Battles and more Watts in no time. While you’re waiting, however, there are other ways to get Watts.
You can participate in the Rotom Rally, which is a bicycle challenge offered by Watt Traders. This can net you hundreds of Watts in a relatively short amount of time—if you’re fast. All you have to do is make it from a preestablished A to B within a certain amount of time—the faster you complete it, the more Watts you’ll be rewarded with.
There’s a much better way to get Watts though. When you see Pokemon sprites on the overworld, keep an eye out for ones that have a sort of yellow glow emanating from them. This is a special phenomenon that occurs in certain, stronger-than-normal Pokemon called the Brilliant Aura. Defeating or catching these Pokemon in battle will net you loads of Watts, and they’re actually quite easy to come across.
So, you can use the Poke Den maps at the top of this guide to visit every single Poke Den in the Wild Area. After that, you can get even more Watts by competing in the Rotom Rally or defeating Pokemon with a Brilliant Aura. Once you’ve racked up enough Watts, you can take your pick between special Poke Balls, Wishing Pieces for Raids, and powerful TMs. If you’re planning on catching some Gigantamax Pokemon or forming a team for competitive play, Watt farming is an essential undertaking, so make sure to bookmark these Poke Den maps for easy access in future.

If you’d like to lead a party full of Ice kings and queens, the easiest way to grab one is to travel to the Lake of Outrage in the Pokemon Sword and Shield Wild Area (opens in new tab), where you’ll see a body of water with a grassy knoll out of reach and a Watt Trader standing on one side. Once you get the Rotom Bike on Route 9 you can cross over to the other side, where you’ll find stones under each of the stone circle bases. Hopefully, one of them is the Ice Stone you desire, but if not, they do respawn eventually!
Otherwise, you can grab one on Route 9 soon after you get your bike upgrade. From the NPC that gives you the bike, drive up through the water and into the opening in the ice to find it in a very convenient and thematically natural location!
You could also speak to the Digging Duo in the Bridge Field zone of the Wild Area, who will excavate a wall full of stones for you if you grease their palms with some Watts. It is randomized as per what you receive, though!
Once you’ve nabbed the Ice Stone opens up your trusty bag and shift to the ‘Other Items’ section to use it on one of the Pokemon listed below. Make sure you don’t make the ‘mon hold it by mistake, as this won’t reap any evolutionary rewards.
If you’ve got your hands on a Galarian Darumaka (Route 8 and Route 10) which is now Ice-type compared to its usual Fire-type, you can use an Ice Stone to evolve it into a Galarian Darmanitan. On the other hand, you can evolve any Eevee (Route 4) you have into Glaceon.

Some fans even started a petition (opens in new tab) to make the pop-up store a permanent part of Westfield London, and while The Pokemon Company isn’t fulfilling that pipe dream just yet, the announcement of this second centre for 2020 is an acknowledgement of the fact that not everyone got the chance to attend the first time round.
The Pokemon World Championships are described as “the premier tournament for Pokémon video games and the Pokemon Trading Card Game”, and will be held in London for the first time in 2020. Meanwhile, Pokemon Sword and Shield (opens in new tab) is selling like hot cakes across the globe, while details of the Pokemon Go community day (opens in new tab) for the December have already been announced.

]]>The post Pokemon Sword and Shields Wild Area offers “constantly connected” online multiplayer appeared first on Game News.
]]>Speaking during an interview with GamesRadar, producer Junichi Masuda said that’s he’s particularly excited to see what players think of the Wild Area, or more specifically the fact that it’s “constantly connected”, meaning you’ll see other players roaming around the Wild Area, camping, catching Pokemon, and battling too.
“It’s constantly connected in the background, so you’ve got this kind of huge, really pretty open space,” explains Masuda-san, “but actually within that, it’s constantly connected in the background, so you can either see local players – if you’ve connected locally – appearing in your game, or if you’re connected online, you can see players from around the world appearing in your game.”
That basically means the Wild Area will function a little bit like the Tower in Destiny 2, in that you’ll be able to wander around with your fellow trainers, admire their character in all their personalised glory, and more. It’ll hopefully really make Galar feel alive, bringing more players actively wandering around this brand new locale.
The Pokemon Company see players using the Wild Area as a way to tackle the gameplay from a different angle.
“If you want to focus on the story, you can do that and go through the gym challenge,” explains Masuda. “But, if you want to challenge yourself in a different way, perhaps you can go into the wild area, search out a lot of new and rare Pokemon that will come out, and the very strong Pokemon that you can encounter. I think it’s really great that we can offer that variety this time around, in the ways you can play the game rather than being set to one kind of path.”
Pokemon Sword and Shield is out November 15, but for now why not check out all the Gen 8 Pokemon (opens in new tab) confirmed so far?

]]>The post Pokemon Sword and Shield wont have players visiting regions outside of Galar appeared first on Game News.
]]>Now, that might sounds bonkers, but so many people latched onto it because there is a plausible connection and some in-game nods that suggested it might be true. However, the theory has now been shot down by the Pokemon Company.
When we asked game director Shigeru Ohmori about the fan theory and the possibility of travelling to another region in Pokemon Sword and Shield, he said:
“In this particular game there’s no plan to send people to other regions at the moment, but there is still plenty to do post-game that we can’t really go into detail on. Even the ‘dex collecting alone, there’s a lot to do there and for players to enjoy. So there’s plenty to do after the game, but with regards to other regions, no.”
That’s a pretty definitive answer to that particular question, although now I’m even more intrigued as to what the post-game content will be.
As to what the theory was, it goes something like this. Pokemon X & Y story’s involved discovering that 3000 years ago a king used an ultimate weapon to stop a war that was raging across the Kalos region. It used energy from the legendary Pokemon Xerneas and Yvelta, which in turn led to the creation of Mega Evolutions. That war though was against an unnamed region, which people posited could have been Galar.
The reason being that the Kalos region was based on France, while Galar is based on the UK – both just a short stretch of water away from one another. It’s also interesting that Pokemon X & Y featured a train station in Couriway Town, which you could never access, and trains are one of the key transport options in Pokemon Sword and Shield. It was thought that it could be that the train stations connect the two regions, just like the Eurostar between the real countries of France and the UK. Plus, Couriway’s slogan is “a town connecting differences”.
You can see why the theory was so compelling, if unlikely to be true.
Pokemon Sword and Shield is out November 15, but for now why not check out all the Gen 8 Pokemon (opens in new tab) confirmed so far?
