Available to pre-order now for $49.99 from the official Lego store (opens in new tab) (or £44.99 (opens in new tab) if you’re based in the UK), this Lego Obi-Wan Kenobi set features the Jedi as he appears in his new show, Darth Vader himself, unexpected ally Tala Durith, and episode 3’s MVP NED-B. They come with a mini-diorama based on the mining planet Ben’s hiding out on, including the rocks Vader hurls across the ground and sets on fire. 

We should clarify that you can’t set these particular bricks alight but, somewhat disturbingly, you can levitate poor old Ben in a Force choke with see-through blocks that raise him off the ground (which isn’t something we’d expected to say regarding Star Wars gifts, but there you go).

This kit will join the other Lego Star Wars sets on August 1, 2022.

Revealed through Obi-Wan Wednesdays (opens in new tab) on the Star Wars website, it was just one part of the day’s surprises. We’re also getting some new Retro Collection Star Wars action figures from Hasbro featuring the Grand Inquisitor and NED-B, not to mention a plush LOLA droid. While the latter isn’t quite as cute as the adorable animatronic LOLA revealed back in May, it’s still very sweet (and probably a lot cheaper, to be honest).

These Star Wars Lego sets are something of a departure for the company; although you can still set them up as you see fit, they’re dioramas on scenic display bases that feature quotes from the movie in question. As an example, the Dagobah kit features Yoda’s famous “do or do not. There is no try” line. So far as we can tell, that’s a first amongst Lego Star Wars sets.

While the Death Star Trench Run Diorama (available for $59.99 from Lego (opens in new tab) and what we assume will be the same price from Amazon (opens in new tab), once it’s up for purchase) is awesome, the standout might just be the Death Star Trash Compactor Diorama. You can pre-order it for $89.99 from the official Lego Store (opens in new tab), and it features a moving wall to squeeze in the characters. There’s even a miniature version of R2-D2 and C-3PO on the other side, recreating the moment where they try to shut the compactor down.

The Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama (which you can pick up for $79.99 via Lego’s site (opens in new tab) and soon from Amazon (opens in new tab)) also has plenty of cool-factor. It depicts Yoda’s hut – that he’s able to actually go inside – amongst the swampy forest, Luke’s submerged X-Wing, and the young Skywalker himself as he tries to lift his starfighter free with the Force. It’s a clever piece that doesn’t waste an inch of space.

Luke’s pilot gear features a brick microphone to go with an orange visor and nameplate. The original Ginger Snaps was released in 2000 and follows a pair of teenage sisters, Brigitte and Ginger Fitzgerald, who are obsessed with death and the occult. When Ginger is turned into a werewolf, Brigitte must stop a new, violent version of her sister wreaking havoc on their town. The Fitzgerald sisters were played by Canadian actors Emily Perkins and Katherine Isabelle.

Both a prequel and a sequel (Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed and Ginger Snaps Back: Beginning) came out in 2004, but neither saw huge success at the box office. However, the movies have since gained cult status.

John Fawcett, who directed the movies, will serve as an executive producer. He’s no stranger to the small screen, either – he co-created the Tatiana Maslany-led sci-fi series Orphan Black. Fawcett has also directed episodes of shows including Xena: Warrior Princess, Queer as Folk, and Lost Girl, as well as the 2005 horror movie The Dark starring Sean Bean. Anna-Maria Ssemuyaba is set to write the series – her previous work includes an episode of Unsaid Stories, a miniseries about racism in Britain released earlier this year. 

“Could it be more socially relevant in this day and age to launch the television series, Ginger Snaps?,” Fawcett told Deadline (opens in new tab). “For me, this is the ultimate follow-up to Orphan Black and I know those fans will find new love with the iconic Ginger and Brigette Fitzgerald. Anna Ssemuyaba is the perfect writer to help us bring our edgy, girl-power horror story to the small screen. I can’t wait for a big bite of this!”

Home Alone director Chris Columbus has taken the reins from Clay Kaytis for the sequel, but the cast is full of familiar faces – alongside Russell, Big Little Lies’ Darby Camp, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley of Father of the Bride fame are also reprising their roles (as teenager Kate and her mother Claire, respectively). Meanwhile, Hunt for the Wilderpeople’s Julian Dennison has joined the cast.

Our first look at the new Christmas caper shows Santa Claus reunited with Kate. It’s been two years since their last festive escapade, and this time she’s reluctantly on a beach holiday in Cancun with her mum’s new boyfriend and his son Jack (newcomer Jahzir Bruno). 

Kate’s had enough and decides to run away, but she ends up further away than planned when she and Jack unexpectedly find themselves on a new adventure with Saint Nick. A mysterious villain named Belsnickel is threatening to destroy the North Pole and ruin Christmas forever, and the kids must work together with Santa and Mrs Claus to save the day.

If you’re after some wholesome, festive fun for all the family, you can get in the spirit nice and early – The Christmas Chronicles 2 hits Netflix on November 25.

Keighley took to Twitter to show off the Xbox Series X in his possession, which looks properly massive next to The Game Awards trophy sat next to it. We only get a brief glimpse of the Series X, and only from the front, top, and left side angle, as Kanye West’s ‘Power’ plays over the video. “Stay tuned for my first hands-on experience playing the next-generation Xbox,” Keighley writes.

Looks like we’ll be getting a video not unlike when Keighley showed off the PS5 DualSense controller, its haptic feedback capabilities, and more. As we previously reported, Keighley showed off the controller in all its glory and went into details about some of its new features. There’s no word on if we’ll get to see some actual Xbox Series X gameplay, or if Keighley will just be summing up his experience on his video, but stay tuned. Both IGN (opens in new tab) and gaming’s other Jeff, Jeff Grubb (opens in new tab), have gotten Xbox Series X consoles, as well. 

Considering Xbox Series X pre-orders are selling out fast, and as we’ve pointed out, several gamers have somewhat accidentally bought Xbox One X consoles, Keighley’s hands-on video will be the closest many of us will get to the console for the foreseeable future. The Xbox Series X and its little bro, Xbox Series S, will release on November 10 of this year.

As soon as we know when the Geoff Keighley exclusive Xbox Series X hands-on video is going live, we’ll update you accordingly. I’m just glad Geoff was able to get his Xbox Series X after all that trouble he had with his pre-order (opens in new tab)…

While we don’t get much regarding gameplay in this trailer, it’s certainly clear that the latest Worms game is going to set itself apart from those that came before it – a worm literally destroys a TV showing a montage of all the old games. A Tweet from the Team 17 account (opens in new tab) suggests there will be “new ways to play” but we’ve got no details other than that.

And “new ways to play” isn’t exactly a hard promise to keep – the Worms franchise may offer turn-based artillery games, but it has repeatedly reinvented itself throughout its lengthy history. 1995’s Worms introduced the concept of worm on worm violence, but each game in the series has felt unique. In 2003, Worms 3D brought the characters into a three-dimensional world and spawned a series within the series before returning to 2D in 2006. At one point, we almost got a Worms karting game called Worms Battle Rally. The latest game, Worms W.M.D. dropped in 2016 with redesigned characters and gameplay that greatly resemble Worms Armageddon. 

The possibilities for the next Worms title are endless, and Team 17 says the latest updates will be posted to their social media accounts. The official Worms Twitter account (opens in new tab) posted the same teaser trailer, with the caption “Things are getting real in 2020”. Please don’t give us hyper-realistic worms, I don’t think I could stomach it.

What could they possibly need that much cash to research, you ask? The proposal outlines “city-creation,” “seamless multiplayer,” “cinematic feel,” and “animation excellence”. Fancy words indeed, plus it seems highly likely the game featuring all these mechanics is Cyberpunk 2077, as it’s set in a sprawling cityscape. But what on earth do they mean? “City-creation” suggests that its urban landscape will be very different from anything we’ve seen before. If its trailer is anything to go by, we’ll be treated to a dense neon-light-filled, grimy metropolis similar to Blade Runner. 

Cyberpunk 2077’s “seamless multiplayer” (opens in new tab) could let your pals jump into your game without going through any cumbersome invite-screens. The proposal for funding explained this a bit more, saying that it would include matchmaking “and support for different game modes”. Perhaps some elements of the campaign will include multiplayer missions. Or – seeing as it’s as urban as Sin City – perhaps they’ll be high-tech heists on the corporations creating all of the futuristic gadgets and gizmos featured in the trailer.  

It’s fair to say that “cinematic feel” and “animation excellence” are geared towards making the game look as visually stunning as possible. We were treated to a feast for our eyeballs with the Witcher 3, so I can’t wait to see what they do with Cyberpunk 2077.

The nominees for the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards have been announced. Game Of Thrones reigns with 19 nominations and American Horror Story: Coven trails just behind with 17. By comparison Breaking Bad picked up 16.

Game Of Thrones garnered mentions in the Outstanding Drama Series and Supporting Actress/Actor in a Drama Series for Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage.

American Horror Story ’s scare tactics are clearly paying off too. The show secured a nomination for Best Miniseries or Movie with Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson picking up Best Actress, Miniseries or Movie nods. Similarly three Coven supporting actresses received a mention in the Supporting Actress, Miniseries or Movie list.

The biggest shock is that Orphan Black ’s Tatiana Maslany hasn’t picked up a single nomination for her outstanding performance(s) in the clone drama. The show failed to pick up any nominations too, despite receiving widespread critical acclaim.

There’s other good news for sci-fi, however. Futurama received a nod for its final season in the Outstanding Animation Programme category, alongside Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Manhattan Project . See the list of major category nominations below.

August is going to be a busy month for con goers. There’s Nine Worlds and WorldCon in London, an official Discworld con in Manchester… and EuroCon will be in Dublin (22-24 August).

The true ruler of The Seven Kingdoms, George RR Martin will be attending this year’s European Science Fiction Convention (the 35th annual EuroCon, this year dubbed “Shamrokon”). As well as Martin taking his seat on the Iron Throne, a myriad guests from comic book creators and authors to illustrators and filmmakers will also be attending. Guests of honour include Judge Dredd ‘s Michael Carroll, Hugo award-winner Seanan Maguire (an occasional contributor to SFX , also known as Mira Grant), author Andrzej Sapkowski and novel translator Yvla Spangberg.

Renowned illustrator and artist Jim Fitzpatrick will be discussing and exhibiting his work alongside Shamrokon’s art show. Fitzpatrick is most famous for his iconic two-tone Che Guevara portrait and Irish Celtic art. If you want your work displayed beside his at the show, you can apply via the Shamrokon website .

The Golden Blasters ( The National Irish Science Fiction Film Awards ) will be showcased as part of the convention this year. The Golden Blasters are dedicated to the art of short genre films; it’s currently taking submissions for both “Best Short Film” and “Best Short Screenplay” categories. As with every EuroCon, Shamrokon will feature the European Science Fiction Society’s annual awards – proudly promoting sci-fi in Europe and European sci-fi globally, including a party on the Saturday providing plenty of food and drink from around the continent. If all of that hasn’t tickled your fancy yet, know that there will also be panels as diverse as only sci-fi can be: explore the influence of renowned Irish Gothic author Sheridan Le Fanu on the horror genre in celebration of his 200th Birthday; discuss Celtic gods and magic, ideas of time-travel and indulge in some zombie talks.
