Update: Square Enix has released an update that addresses the issue of Marvel’s Avengers crashing on PS5.

Up until now, the only official solution from Square Enix required you to reset your campaign progress, which obviously isn’t ideal. Thankfully, there’s a new patch out that specifically targets the issue described below.

“We have released an update on PS5 that addresses the crash issue that some players have been having,” reads a tweet from the official Marvel’s Avengers account. “Please let us know if you continue to have the problem.”

Original story follows…

Some Marvel’s Avengers players are experiencing crashes on PS5, and Square Enix has an unorthodox fix while we wait for an official patch.

Square Enix acknowledged the issue on Twitter, saying there’s a proper solution in the works. “We think we’ve identified a fix that is currently being implemented/tested,” reads the Twitter update. “We hope to have more news by tomorrow morning and will continue to keep you updated.”

With news on a fix coming potentially as early as tomorrow morning, folks experiencing crashes on PS5 probably won’t need to wait too long to get back into the game uninterrupted. But if you’re really, really desperate to play Marvel’s Avengers on PS5 today, Square Enix says there’s a workaround that some players are having success with, but it’ll cost you your campaign save file.

“In the meantime, here’s a workaround that is resolving the issue for some players – just note that it will reset your campaign progress,” reads a follow-up tweet.

Just to be crystal clear, this solution will delete your Marvel’s Avengers save file, probably permanently. There’s also no guarantee this will work, though some players are reporting success. But if for some reason you just can’t wait, here’s what you can try if the game is crashing on PS5.

According to Square Enix, you’ll want to go to Operations and reset your campaign progress. Create a new save file and start the game, and then immediately press the center button on your controller to open up the PS5’s home screen and force close the game. Square Enix says that should resolve the issue.

Again, if you can wait, it’s best to hold out for a patch that fixes the issue without wiping your progress. We’ve reached out to Square Enix for a timeframe on the patch and we’ll update this article if we hear back.

In the meantime, here are the best superhero games you can play right now.

No matter how you slice it, Marvel’s Avengers hasn’t had the best year. From a buggy launch to dwindling player counts, it was beginning to look like it was all over for Square Enix’s ambitious outing. Yet like any superhero worth their salt, Marvel’s Avengers isn’t going down without a fight – and if the free War For Wakanda expansion’s first two missions are anything to go by, the Avengers still has a few blows left in it.

Set five years after Wakanda closed its borders to the outside world, we join our hero in this Black Panther DLC tailing some mercs lurking in a nearby jungle. T’Challa’s solution? A royally decreed ass-whopping. Leaping into action, it becomes immediately apparent that War for Wakanda is a more challenging beast. As I sent our acrobatic Wakandan king hurtling into battle, his foes hit back just as hard. Instead of the mindless button mash of old, Ulysses Klaue’s Vibranium-mining-mercs immediately surround me, dodging my flurry of attacks and responding with AOE moves that dole out some serious punishment.

After quickly growing tired of the base game’s challenge-less slog, getting my arse instantly handed to me was a welcome surprise. Following months without endgame content and baffling XP system ‘fixes’, War For Wakanda immediately attempts to demonstrate that developer Crystal Dynamics is learning from its mistakes.

Welcome to Wakanda

Still, in-game difficulty is irrelevant if the actual combat isn’t compelling – and thankfully, the King of Wakanda is the game’s best-playing hero yet. Sprinting across the vibrant jungle with a pleasingly punchy pace, T’Challa leaps around like a gymnast possessed, hurtling through the air before landing blow after devastating blow. Kitted out with a pair of throwable Vibranium daggers, a damage absorbing block/parry, and a satisfying string of combos, Black Panther’s up-close and personal play style feels a world away from Thor’s floaty playstyle.

The digital dioramas you’re duking it out in don’t hurt either. Unlike the cramped corridors that littered the base game, the luscious locales of Wakanda’s forests feel like pleasingly inviting playgrounds. Leaping across its overgrown ruins and clambering up walls to glimpse glistening waterfalls, this open vibrant space is a sight for sore eyes.

T’Challa’s athletic prowess make him a natural fit for platforming too, with his pacy pounce turning sandbox traversal into a pleasingly flowing bounce. Whether we’re sending his royal whiskers clambering up walls or swinging from branches, there’s more than a touch of Spider-Man to Square Enix’s take on the cat-eared King.

As foes are dispatched and loot is collected, the bustling jungle gives way to an eerie cavernous temple – the caves of Bashenga . Lit by the flicker of torches and surrounded by crumbling structures, this Uncharted 4 style section sees T’Challa solving puzzles and dodging traps between bouts of environmental storytelling where he recalls his training.

Black Panther will be the eighth playable hero in Marvel’s Avengers. Here’s more information on the War for Wakanda release date and the live event that will introduce King T’Challa.

Ducking and weaving your way through ancient traps and stepping on weighted plates to reveal hidden loot, there’s a pleasingly Indiana Jones feel to the caves of Bashenga. Going from a sprawling forest to a dimly lit cave is a trick that’s repeated in the game’s second mission too, but both iterations feel distinct enough that the locales don’t lose their sheen.

Speaking of sheen, there’s one major ingredient of the War of Wakanda expansion that brings the rest of this live service hodgepot together – Christopher Judge. Finding somebody who could do justice to a role that was popularized by the legendary Chadwick Boseman was never going to be easy, but Square Enix has found an actor who can fill his vibranium-shaped boots in Judge.

As anyone who played 2018’s God of War will attest, Christopher Judge’s gravely tones are endlessly captivating, with the voice of Kratos lending the king of Wakanda an equally commanding presence. Thankfully, he’s used to fairly good effect in the first mission, with Judge’s distinctive voice lending some intriguing backstory to the smattering of environmental storytelling littered throughout each mission. With much of the base game lacking the narrative chops of other Marvel games – Insomniac’s Spider-Man, for example – it’s promising to see Crystal Dynamics shake off some of the live service genre trappings and attempt to deliver a narrative worthy of the universe.

Stronger than ever

The expansion’s first boss battle is surprisingly enjoyable too, seeing Black Panther go claw to bullet with minigun-toting brute Crossbones. Set against the backdrop of one of Klaw’s cannons reigning down fire on the city of Wakanda, this battle offers a pleasing sense of urgency. As the shielded villain attempts to protect the cannon, the fight sees you pummelling Crossbones in order to lower the shields and disable the city-levelling weapon.

It’s then that War For Wakanda goes back to familiar territory. Putting you back in the shoes of Captain America, following a dramatic meeting with the crown king, you are suddenly wandering the game’s highly-detailed new Wakandan social space. Littered with Royal guards who block your way and dismiss you with a stern word, filled with groups of muttering scientists and studious technicians, it’s an impressively detailed hub. With the Reassemble campaign’s social space taking place in a largely abandoned ship, it’s a welcome evolution – and that’s before Wakanda is able to offer up some captivating story moments.

From the throne-facing war room, to the candle-lit ritual chamber of the Wakandan Elder or even the humorous whispers in the corridor between Kamala Khan and Hawkeye, this shiny social space offers a glimpse of the kind of storytelling you’d expect from an Avengers game. Will these detailed touches be a constant throughout the expansion? Having seen less than half of the new expansion’s content, it’s hard to tell – but in terms of showcasing the team’s narrative ambition, it’s certainly a promising start.

Marvel's Avengers War For Wakanda

As I power through the expansion’s second mission, deja vu begins to set in. The general cadence of War For Wakanda consists of open jungle scraps followed by cavernous traversal with a few puzzles. Still, thanks to the solid flow of traversal and it’s consistently challenging combat, it all feels satisfying, with its sprinkle of cinematic touches bringing these disparate elements together to create more than the sum of its cobbled together parts.

Before my demo ended, I briefly got to experience a fully upgraded Black Panther. Reaching max level and armed with a wide litany of skills, needless to say, a fully kitted out Black Panther is an absolute beast. Launching into battle, his already flowing combat abilities burst into life with a flow of aerial combos and upgraded projectiles making the Wakandan King feel wonderfully OP.

Like most of the people who played it, I came away from Marvel’s Avengers last year feeling pretty underwhelmed. If the War for Wakanda expansion shows anything, it’s that the game’s tepid reception has lit a creative fire under Crystal Dynamics.

The big question is, does the War For Wakanda do enough to fix Marvel’s Avengers (many )problems? Having played less than half of the new mission, it’s honestly hard to say. When fending off waves of enemies as you attempt to defend some Vibranium, the mashy monotony of old certainly begins to creep back in. Yet with vastly improved combat, a brilliantly cast Wakandan king, and a bold new setting, there’s more than enough to this free expansion to warrant donning the suit and cowl.

Black Panther joins Marvel’s Avengers on August 17. If you’re looking for a different kind of superhero experience this fall, Square Enix is also working on a Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game

On paper, Marvel’s Avengers was a sure-fire hit. Starring some of the most recognisable heroes on the planet, and developed by some of the most respected teams in gaming, it’s no wonder Square Enix invested heavily in the project. Yet after a launch plagued by multiplayer issues and a first year defined by a lack of content, the long-awaited superhero RPG shifted just 3 million copies – bringing in, it’s been estimated (opens in new tab), only 60% of its expected revenue.

It’s a fact that Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics are all too aware of. As I hop onto a Zoom call with Scott Walters, senior game designer, and writer Hannah MacLeod, it’s clear the duo are no strangers to answering tough questions around the game’s success and longevity. “We’re definitely listening to player feedback,” says Walters. “We’re figuring out what players want to see and trying to focus our efforts around… stuff like that.”

There’s a pause. “…Yeah,” agrees MacLeod, “we’ve learned a lot more about, you know… what it takes to keep this game going”

It’s hard to blame them for looking weary. Pouring years of your life into a game only to be constantly grilled about its failures can’t be easy. Yet despite the deservedly cool reaction to Marvel’s Avengers at launch, a year later Square Enix seems determined to turn its first live-service game around. The game’s unlikely saviour? Black Panther.

A fresh start

Marvel's Avengers War for Wakanda DLC

As one of the players who was less than enthusiastic about the base game, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my two hour hands-on with the new expansion. Entitled War For Wakanda and starring the voice of Kratos himself – Christopher Judge – as Black Panther, there’s a level of cinematic quality and Marvel sheen that was missing the first time around.

It’s no surprise then that the duo are quick to try and shift the conversation from the missteps of the past towards what they see as the triumphs of the present. “I feel like we’ve hit our stride in a lot of ways, “says Macleoad “From my perspective, War For Wakanda is some of the best storytelling we’ve ever done on this game. I think it’s a pretty dramatic and emotional story. It really just expands the world – makes it all feel a lot bigger. I think if you only played the Reassemble campaign, you’d be surprised how much more story there is now”

It’s hard to disagree based on the snippet I’ve played. Compared to the jumbled-together Reassemble campaign, this virtual Wakanda feels like a place that has been crafted with love. It turns out, that’s because Black Panther was a hero the team wanted to recreate from day one.

“We always wanted to do Black Panther,” Walters tells GamesRadar. “Even when we initially started Avengers and were making a list of the heroes that we wanted, Black Panther was at the top of our list. How Wakanda merges technology and culture together… it’s a very interesting departure from our other heroes”

We went hands-on with the Black Panther DLC and it looks like a new high for the live-service. Learn more in our Marvel’s Avengers: War for Wakanda preview

Yet the problem with recreating Black Panther is that for many, there’s only one T’Challa – the one immortalised on the big screen by the late Chadwick Boseman. “It was definitely something we were always conscious of,” says Macleoad. ” I think Chadwick Boseman’s performance is going to be pretty core to that character forever. Our goal with our version of Black Panther was to explore sides of the character that people might not be familiar with.”

“Our T’Challa is a bit older and he’s been a king for a bit longer, which gives him a sense of arrogance that people don’t know if they’ve only seen the movies. But in the comics, he is incredibly intelligent. He’s super confident – he’s a scientist in his own right. And that gives him a kind of arrogance that can be off putting in some ways, and I find that really interesting”

Yet as nerve wracking as filling in for Boseman must be, there’s no doubt that Christopher Judge has done a commendable job of bringing the Wakandan King to life. “I’m really excited for players to meet this cast,” Macleoad continues. “I think the heavy hitters that we have voicing this cast really brought it. I know a lot of them were nervous to do these characters justice, but they just knocked it out of the park. I still can’t believe Chris Judge is T’Challa! It is the coolest thing.”

Embracing the strangeness of Marvel comics

Marvel's Avengers War for Wakanda DLC

“Yes, we are still working on Spider-Man”

Scott Walters, senior game designer

Outside of Kamala Khan, a lot of the Reassemble campaign drew criticism for being rather po-faced – as well as its reliance on expected story beats. It’s a lesson that the writing team have taken to heart, and for this free Black Panther’s DLC, Hannah reveals that she’s enjoyed embracing Marvel’s weirder side. “We’ve really come to learn that people love the comics because of the stuff that’s weird – the unique and the interesting. I think our Reassemble campaign was very grounded for a lot of good reasons, but with this live service content we’ve gotten to go a little wackier… and people have seemed to respond really well to that.

As happy as fans are to see Black Panther make his way to Marvel’s Avengers, there’s one character that many are desperate to see: Spider-Man. Announced as a PlayStation exclusive character before launch, the silence around the witty web-slinger has been deafening. Sadly, Walters says we’ll have to wait a little longer. “Yes, we are still working on Spider-Man. We planned on releasing him this year, and he’s still on track for that.”

Even with Peter Parker missing in action for the first year of Avengers adventures, between the upcoming Black Panther DLC and the previously released Hawkeye expansions, it’s clear that Square Enix is trying to do right by its fanbase by offering increasingly expansive free updates. For Walters, complaints of the game being content light are no longer well-founded.

“With the [War for] Wakanda expansion, Marvel’s Avengers, start to finish, is now over 25 hours of just campaign content,” he says. “We’re adding New Avengers initiative missions outside of just the Wakanda space with this expansion too, so there will be more endgame content to engage with outside of the campaign. We will have a new omega level threat that is Wakanda focused coming out a little bit later on too – that way players have time to level up their Black Panther.”

Will Marvel’s Avengers go free-to-play?

Marvel's Avengers War for Wakanda DLC

“We don’t want to block story content behind money or anything like that, because I think the story stuff really gets people into the game”

Hannah MacLeod, writer

There’s clearly an appetite out there for Marvel’s Avengers. You need only look to a recent free-to-play weekend for evidence of that, where the game’s concurrent player count leaped from an estimated 500 to 10,000 on Steam alone within a 24 hour period. Does this mean that Marvel’s Avengers will abandon its paid entry approach entirely and embrace a free-to-play model? Crystal Dynamics says it’s unlikely, but the studio is investigating more free-to-play weekends as it attempts to draw players into its revitalised Avengers ecosystem.

“There’s definitely plans to look into free-to-play weekends,” says MacLeod, “especially since we only did it on specific platforms. I think right now, we still very much want to give people story content for free. We never want it to be a pay to win model with our game. We don’t want to block story content behind money or anything like that, because I think the story stuff really gets people into the game. So we’re certainly looking into further events and things like that, but we don’t have anything specific to announce yet.”

Despite the dark cloud that’s been hanging over this game for the last year, Scott and Hannah seem determined to continue to make Marvel’s Avengers the best that it can be. Whether War For Wakanda as a whole redeems the experience is hard to say, but from the slice of it we experienced Marvel’s Avengers is certainly on the right track. Regardless, for the team at Crystal Dynamics, this new expansion represents a glimmer of hope – and their excitement at launching it into the wild feels tangible.

“I’m just really excited to see what fans of Black Panther think when they get their hands on it,” says Walters with a slight smile. ” Not just from a combat perspective, but also just about being able to explore Wakanda, or, you know, walking through the outpost and seeing sort of how that technology has shaped that space. I’m just excited to see what they think.”

The developers are teasing an in-game event “to coincide with the War for Wakanda Expansion that will add to the overall world building.” Aside from that, we know the expansion will also bring in a new Wakandan jungle environment to explore and embark on missions in, and a new outpost: The Golden City contains Shuri’s lab, Zawavari’s chambers, and the grand Wakandan War Room, so it should be a treat to check out for fans of the Marvel films and comics alike.

The expansion will introduce two new villains – including T’Challa’s nemesis Klaw – and new enemy types to fill out the ranks of the grunts. New Drop Zone and Threat Sector missions will give you more challenges to overcome and loot to collect, and the Birnin Zana outpost will give you a new place to catch your breath between outings.

While the War for Wakanda won’t begin until next month, Square Enix is inviting new players to do some Avenging for free with an all-access weekend that runs from today to Sunday, August 1 on PC, PlayStation and Stadia (a similar event for Xbox will come “in the coming months”). On top of letting you play through the vanilla campaign and all the post-launch updates, you’ll also get a 400% bonus to XP earned to help you catch up, as well as a 50% off discount on the in-game marketplace if you want to further kit out your favorite heroes. The game itself is also being discounted by 40% if you want to keep going after the free weekend ends.

The Marvel’s Avengers next-gen update has offered a shot of redemption for the scrappy superhero fighter. After a rough launch – from the negative reaction to Spider-Man being a PlayStation exclusive character to the swift dip in active players – the chance to showcase the game at its technical peak on PS5 and Xbox Series X gives developer Crystal Dynamics a rare opportunity to make a second impression.

It’s a well-taken one for the most part, with plenty of new flourishes that help make a much better case for the popcorn beat-em-up. From the 60fps frame rate that gives the action a smoother flow, to the way the DualSense has been tightly integrated into play, there’s a lot the Marvel’s Avengers next-gen version does to considerably up the wow factor.

But does it do enough to convince us that it has the legs that Square-Enix clearly wants it to have? Well, that’s a trickier question, and one that is clearly at the heart of everything the game gets right and wrong…

Avengers (Re)assemble

Marvel's Avengers

That issue lies in the foundations of Marvel’s Avengers from the start, and its unnecessary overcomplication of the superhero power fantasy. Because while our heroes might look like their big-screen counterparts, the game itself has seemingly learned nothing from the MCU. Despite taking place within a universe that spans years of films and TV shows, each individual story manages to keep things simple, with anyone able to dip in and follow the broad strokes of what’s going on.

Marvel’s Avengers, simply, does not. I’ve played for roughly 30 hours, polished off the main campaign and dipped into both add-on packs, and there are still currencies I’m picking up which I don’t know what to do with. In trying to create a Destiny-style persistent world, Marvel’s Avengers bogs you down with loot, skill points, upgrade materials, and other tiresome trinkets. While it’s clear that the endgame stuff will come into focus the further on I get, it still distracts from the game’s core strengths.

Because when you’re roaming around battering robots or tackling the game’s main story missions, it finds a relaxed groove that makes you feel like the characters you play as. From Kamala Khan’s youthful exuberance to Hulk’s ground-shattering power, there’s an undeniable appeal to orchestrating a fight straight from a comic book page. And this is where the next-gen update brings that charm into focus.

The improved framerate goes a huge way to making these fights feel as spectacular as they look, while the resolution mode adds in a load of extra effects to really play up the technicolor action. Meanwhile, the PS5’s Dualsense controller brilliantly communicates the power at your fingertips, from Iron Man’s Repulsers charging up to Hulk tearing out huge chunks of rubble from the ground. With some straightforward upgrades, Marvel’s Avengers has found a way to add a bit of cinematic dazzle to the action. It’s a blueprint that should act as a path forward for the game.

Aiming for better

Of course, I don’t mean that every few months the game should get a next-gen overhaul, and I’m not expecting 8K graphics and my own Hulkbuster suit delivered to my doorstep by the time summer ends. But this is the first time that I’ve felt the urge to keep coming back to Marvel’s Avengers because its breezy new story expansions give me a place to enjoy the flashy new bells and whistles. What stops me from truly committing, though, is the micro-management that is seemingly baked into the game.

And this is where we circle back to my point about simplicity. Marvel’s Avengers has more loot, currencies, skill trees, and collectibles than it knows what to do with. Not only am I constantly hoovering up improved rib cages for Hulk or better arrows for Kate Bishop, but I then need to find nanotubes, plasma, and other-items-I’m-too-lazy-to-namecheck to then upgrade them. Add on an entirely separate leveling up system that lets you unlock new combos, and it feels like the game is 50% Hulk smashing and 50% Bruce Banner admin.

Marvel's Avengers

Now, following the debut of Marvel’s Avengers’ 2021 roadmap (opens in new tab), we have a good idea of what’s coming this year, with Black Panther as the headline attraction. But in many ways, what I’d rather see is a roadmap of how the game can take things back to basics. With the War for Wakanda add-on giving us a new story, my ideal set-up would be discovering T’Challa doesn’t actually need any loot maintenance, and I can just enjoy slashing through his story without worrying about my Power Level.

Now, this isn’t me making a case for Marvel’s Avengers being a misunderstood masterpiece – it’s an engaging beat-em-up with a collection of fun characters that has made an ill-advised attempt to be the only game you ever play again. Like The Division, Anthem, Outriders, and any number of titles that saw the money Destiny made and thought they’d like a slice of that, the attempts to keep you locked into its orbit are understandable from a business point of view, if not entirely suited to this style of action. But now that I’ve seen what the game can be at its best, I’d love to watch it strip away the unnecessary baggage and make good on this promising second impression.

Now it’s finally out – and if you didn’t commit to a pre-order – it’s the perfect time to get the best Marvel’s Avengers price going. The most pressing news to reassure you of if you’re interested in getting the game is that a lot of the issues and problems identified by players in the Marvel’s Avengers beta (opens in new tab), were addressed in a day one patch (opens in new tab). The game also seems to have grown on a lot of people despite some cooler receptions regarding its GaaS setup. Our Marvel’s Avengers review (opens in new tab) (in progress) is causing multiple members of the GamesRadar team to have different and varied thoughts on it.

For some context and looking back, it was way, way back, when MODOK was revealed as the main villain (opens in new tab), and, incredibly importantly the game was revealed to be a next-gen launch title (opens in new tab), and anyone who purchases it for the current-gen will receive a free upgrade for the PS5 or Xbox Series X – the former of which will have different settings for visual or framerate upgrades (opens in new tab). You can soak up loads more information in an interview we had with the development team (opens in new tab).

Anyway, there’s plenty of time for further reading later on after you’ve done the most important thing and found the best Marvel’s Avengers price for you, wherever you are. There are three main versions of the game, each with varying bonuses that you’ll find out more on below. Earth’s Mightiest is the mother of all versions available to get; Deluxe is a quality middle-ground offering, and the Standard version is the simplest one going.

The best Marvel’s Avengers prices and deals

The usual retailers are all listing their own Marvel’s Avengers prices and deals and you can, on the whole, just visit your usual one to find the right copy for you. Be aware that retailers, on both sides of the Atlantic, have got a few exclusives and special things that only they are throwing in so be on the lookout for what else you might be able to get for your money.

Marvel’s Avengers prices – Earth’s Mightiest Edition

(opens in new tab)

Go big with the most bombastic version of Marvel’s Avengers. The Earth’s Mightiest Edition gets you a whole treasure trove of goodies, as well as the Deluxe Edition and Steel Book case: a Hulk Bobblehead; Mjolnir key chain; Black Widow’s belt buckle; Iron Man’s Prototype Armor blueprints; Kamala Khan’s Honorary Avenger Pin and a Commemorative Avengers group photo. This is by far the best version for physical media lovers as it will get you a whole host of goodies that are tangible as well as bagging you the digital stuff as well.

Inhabiting the middle of the Marvel’s Avengers price range, the Deluxe Edition will get you the Obsidian outfit pack, and an Obsidian nameplate pack, the steel book, and 1-month free Marvel Unlimited.

Marvel’s Avengers prices – Standard Edition

Going for the standard edition of Marvel’s Avengers the game will get you the most stripped back version of the game. This is certainly the edition of the game where we have seen a bunch of variations from retailer to retailer. Some are trying to offer their own throw-ins to make it an ‘exclusive’, so follow the links below but also be aware of what each seller is offering.

Marvel’s Avengers prices – other items

Alongside the game itself, there’s a very good art book. Such is the way with modern games, these books are filled with excellent lore, background info, and development process insight to help flesh out what one can experience from the game itself. And for physical media lovers like me, this is good news! We’ve rounded up an even wider selection in our guide to the best gaming books (opens in new tab) too.

Getting the most out of Marvel’s Avengers the game

There is no doubt that the very best way to play Marvel’s Avengers is going to be with an enhanced gaming setup, one that’s as optimized as is possible for you to obtain. This means, at the very least, eyeing up one of the best PS4 Pro deals (opens in new tab) or the best Xbox One X deals (opens in new tab) available to ensure you have the top console model of your choice.

Alternatively, consider one of the best PC gaming machines in the shape of the best gaming PCs (opens in new tab) or best gaming laptops (opens in new tab) to make sure you get the most out of the detail, textures, and fidelity of modern games’ audio profiles. You’ll also need to see the details of the world perfectly too with one of the best gaming monitors (opens in new tab) or best gaming TVs (opens in new tab)

And finally, ensure you have a gaming sound system (opens in new tab) to recreate the film series’ famous cinematic audio in your living or gaming room for the game itself or go for one of the best PS4 headsets (opens in new tab), best Xbox headsets (opens in new tab), or one of the best PC headsets for gaming (opens in new tab).

It’s a fair bit of kit to potentially consider but if you get any combination of these great quality items and your experience of the game will only be nearer the best it can be.

Looking for a different game to pre-order?

There are a few incredibly exciting upcoming titles available for pre-order right now, as well as some recently released behemoths, so if you’re on the hunt for more deals and best prices these select pages will help you to do so:

Square Enix says it is “aware of a number of other issues that are causing problems for some of our players” on Marvel’s Avengers (opens in new tab) and has issued a new PC patch to address some of the issues.

“We have just released our first patch for Marvel’s Avengers, build 12.9,” wrote Square Enix on Marvel’s Avengers Steam page. “This patch is primarily focused on stability, based on the data we have collected after Early Access started a few days ago.”

The patch includes a “work-around” for a NVIDIA 10-series driver problem that was causing crashes, and enables Steam Cloud to “allow you to easily synchronise your save-games between multiple PCs”.

It also addresses an issue in which some players to be unable to throw rocks as Hulk or to shoot as Iron Man, and fixes a DEVICE_HUNG crash some users experienced in the sewers.

“We are aware of a number of other issues that are causing problems for some of our players, and teams are hard at work addressing those, but for now we want to make sure we get these stability improvements that have already been identified to all of you,” the post concludes. “Please keep your feedback coming, and we will be releasing further patches as fixes are found.”

Square Enix recently broke down how Marvel’s Avengers approaches gear and cosmetics (opens in new tab) and the Marketplace is where you go to spend real money. It’s accessed from the main menu of the game, and everything there is sold for Credits (which come in a minimum pack of 500 for $5). The Marketplace will carry a weekly rotation of cosmetic items.

Then there are Hero Challenge Cards, which you can think of as battle passes for each individual hero. Each card has 40 tiers of free and premium rewards, and you can earn Challenge Points toward unlocking them by completing daily and weekly challenges. The six heroes available at launch will have their premium Hero Challenge Card tracks unlocked for free.

Square Enix recently confirmed (opens in new tab) Marvel’s Avengers has received more PlayStation downloads than any other beta in history.

Square Enix has also confirmed that Marvel’s Avengers will have exclusive cosmetics on PS4 (opens in new tab), and free skins for PS Plus members.

Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will join the roster as one of the promised post-launch heroes, joining Hawkeye, who was announced during the last Marvel’s Avengers War Room stream (opens in new tab). This version of Spider-Man will be Crystal Dynamics’ take on the web-slinger – so he’s not related to Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man, or the Spider-Man: Miles Morales (opens in new tab) title releasing later in the year. Consider him an entirely different Spider-Beast, with his own story that will somehow tie-in to the Avengers’ saga that Crystal Dynamics has crafted for Marvel’s Avengers.

A PlayStation blog (opens in new tab) post goes into greater detail about Spidey’s upcoming inclusion in the Avengers, stating that this will be “a familiar but fresh Spider-Man who needs to evolve to take on global threats alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.” Spider-Man will have enhanced customization options like the other heroes and his own unique skill tree with gadgets and skills you can upgrade along the way. Spider-Man’s gear will also get a nice little boost from Hank Pym, SHIELD, Stark Industries, and other allies he’ll make along the way.

Spider-Man will join the Avengers roster in early 2021 as a free downloadable hero for owners of the base game, exclusively on PS4 and PS5. Xbox fans looking forward to playing Marvel’s Avengers may find this Spider-Man deal a serious blow – as of yet it doesn’t look like Xbox will be getting any exclusive heroes, and Spider-Man is most certainly a fan favorite. We’ll keep you updated in case Xbox gets its own exclusive Avenger…

Here’s all the Marvel’s Avengers beta (opens in new tab) info you’ll need.

Marvel’s Avengers (opens in new tab) is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X as a next-gen launch title, Square Enix has announced. Both next-gen versions of the game will be free to everyone with a copy of the current-gen game, and all progress carries over. Furthermore, cross-gen play is supported, which means players using next-gen consoles can play with those on current-gen consoles.

“Featuring extremely fast load times, boosted resolution and fidelity, improved texturing and armor destruction, ray tracing, and more – Marvel’s Avengers will look and play great on next-gen systems,” reads a press release. “The PlayStation®5 experience will be seamless and dynamic, fully utilizing the ultra-high speed SSD, the PS5 DualSense advanced haptics, and immersive spatial audio. To fully customize their visual experience, PS5 will also provide players with their choice of Enhanced Graphics Mode or High Framerate mode.”

Square says more details about the Xbox Series X-enhanced version of Marvel’s Avengers, as well as Stadia and PC-specific features, are coming later. For now, here’s what developer Crystal Dynamics had to say about the PS5-enhanced Marvel’s Avengers port (opens in new tab).

From the newly-announced next-gen upgrades to the recently-described accessibility features, there’s a lot to be excited for in Marvel’s Avengers. For more, be sure to tune in to the Marvel’s Avengers War Table gameplay stream (opens in new tab) on June 24 at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST.
