The post Zack Snyder calls Henry Cavill the past, present and future of Superman while celebrating Man of Steel anniversary appeared first on Game News.
]]>Cavill played the role in 2013’s Man of Steel and again in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League (and, of course, 2021’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League). While there are no plans for him to reprise the role anytime soon, the actor says the cape is “still in the closet”.

“There is still a lot of storytelling for me to do as a Superman, and I would absolutely love the opportunity,” Cavill told The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab) last year, going on to cite the moment in Man of Steel when he kills Zod. “There’s an opportunity for growth after that, to explore the psyche of Superman as a deep, seemingly invulnerable god-like being but with real feeling on the inside. As I always say, ‘The cape is still in the closet.'”
While that quote coupled with Snyder’s caption implies a “never say never” attitude towards more Cavill-as-Superman, both actor and director have plenty of other projects in the pipeline. Snyder is currently working on Rebel Moon, a sci-fi epic for Netflix, while Cavill has The Witcher season 3 and Enola Holmes 2 on the horizon for the streamer. There’s also an alternate version of Superman in development at Warner Bros., with J.J. Abrams producing and Ta-Nehisi Coates writing, that’s set to have a Black Superman. The movie will, like Tha Batman, reportedly take place in its own universe, leaving room for Cavill’s DCEU Superman to still fly high.
Next up in the DCEU is Black Adam, which hits the big screen on October 21. In the meantime, make sure you’re up to date with the DCEU with our guide to watching the DC movies in order.

]]>The post Rumour: Bryan Cranston cast as Lex Luthor in Man of Steel 2 appeared first on Game News.
]]>
While Warner Bros and DC are yet to officially confirm the news, insider sources are suggesting that Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luthor in Man of Steel 2 / Batman vs Superman .
The Breaking Bad star has been a fan-favourite dream casting since Man of Steel (opens in new tab) was announced, but now Cosmic Book News is reporting that the deal is done, and that Cranston has signed on for a six movie deal.
The news will allegedly be made official following the end of the critically acclaimed drama, and will pave the way for a movie role that will see the folically averse star pop up in a number of DC movies (“think of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury popping up in every Marvel movie in the run-up to The Avengers “).
Cranston himself has already shown interest in the role (opens in new tab) , and his comments certainly seem to suggest he has a handle on the man behind the megalomania.
Until Warner Bros or Cranston himself come out and confirm the news, we’re still a little dubious – but it’s certainly exciting speculation.

With Man Of Steel looming on the horizon, Zack Snyder has been talking about what sets his version of Superman apart from those that have gone before.
Speaking in reference to the way the character has been tweaked and jazzed-up in the likes of Smallville and some of the more recent DC comics, Snyder suggests that any attempt to reinvent Superman is totally missing the point.
“When they try to dress him up… put him in jeans and a t-shirt or a leather jacket with an S on it, I go, ‘What? Guys, it’s okay. It’s Superman. He’s the king daddy. You should all be bowing down to him.’
“He’s a really cool mythological contradiction… he’s incredibly familiar Americana and alien, exotic, bizarroland, but beautifully woven together…All of us, in a weird way, are that same kind of contradiction — no one’s that simple.”
You certainly get the impression that for Snyder, the criticisms that are occasionally levelled at the character – too bland, too conventionally “good” – are the things that set him apart.
““I feel like my movies have always been very subversive,” says the director, “even when people haven’t perceived how subversive they really are. For me, what’s subversive about Superman is that it’s not subversive.”
Co-starring Henry Cavill, Michael Shannon, Amy Adams and Russell Crowe, Man Of Steel opens in the UK on 14 June 2013.

Having finally put Batman to bed with The Dark Knight Rises , Chris Nolan is busy answering superhero questions once more, this time regarding Superman comeback vehicle Man Of Steel .
Nolan is a producer on Zack Snyder’s movie, and has been describing what we can expect from Supes and in his latest incarnation.
“I wouldn’t want people to think we’re doing for Superman what we did for Batman. It’s very much Zack’s film and I think people are going to love what he’s done. I think it’s really remarkable to take on that character. Superman is a completely different character than Batman.
“So you can’t in anyway use the same template,” he continues, “but David Goyer had this brilliant way to make Superman relatable and relevant for his audience. Zack has built on that and I think it’s incredible what he’s putting together.”
“He’s got a lot of finishing to do on that. Superman is the biggest comic book character of them all and he needs the biggest possible movie version which is what Zack’s doing. It’s really something.”

]]>
Zack Snyder has been helping to whip up some more excitement for Man Of Steel , confirming that the new trailer will preview before The Hobbit , and talking a little about what we can expect from his star-studded cast.
“I can’t wait for The Hobbit ,” says Snyder, “so it will be fun to see our crazy Man O f Steel trailer and then enjoy The Hobbit because that’s going to be great. It just feels like a fun Christmas thing to do, drag the whole family out for that action.”
When asked about Shannon’s performance as Zod, Snyder took the opportunity to praise the seriousness with which his cast approached their roles.
“I was just incredibly fortunate to play with those guys who really were giving all they had to bring a level of commitment to the scenes they have together so that audiences will get an opportunity to really have their heroes taken seriously.
“I don’t mean that from a depressing kind of way but, ‘This is important and fun and needs to be given the respect that it deserves’. from that perspective it was so exciting to watch them drink the Kool-Aid of that concept and go all the way.”

]]>
Man Of Steel , Zack Snyder’s new take on Superman, was one of the big guns at this year’s Comic-Con , and it brought with it a first poster.
It’s a moody affair, with the focus aimed squarely at Supes’ considerable chest. Henry Cavill’s face is in there, but the shadow-play that’s going on makes it hard to identify him, and it gives him one glowing white eye.
In close up, the suit has a chainmail vibe, possessing more texture than most superhero threads.
And, purely in terms of lighting, this is a darker take on DC’s golden boy. Being a teaser poster, we’d imagine this reflects the approach of the new film.
Check out the poster in full below:

And those of you desperate for a first glimpse at Man Of Steel footage will only have to wait until 20 July 2012, as Snyder confirmed that a teaser will premiere with The Dark Knight Rises . We’re guessing that quite a few of you will be going to see that one anyway. Just a hunch.
Man Of Steel opens on 14 June 2013.

]]>The post Hans Zimmer will score Man Of Steel appeared first on Game News.
]]>
Man Of Steel has already assembled an impressive on-screen ensemble, but Warner may have made one of its most important appointments on the project to date, by drafting in Hans Zimmer to compose the score.
Having long been one of Hollywood’s most prolific composers, Zimmer has become famous for his regular collaborations with Christopher Nolan, most notably on Batman Begins and The Dark Knight .
For anyone doubting just how evocative and atmospheric Zimmer’s Batman creations have been, it’s worth giving the final full trailer for The Dark Knight Rises another look. Just wait for those goosebumps to start kicking in as his score starts to recall those of the previous two films…
Samples of his latest score for Nolan’s final Bat-film were recently released online , and sure enough, they’re just as epic as those that have gone before. His appointment to Man Of Steel probably shouldn’t come as a surprise given Nolan’s involvement as producer, but its an exciting move nevertheless.
Whether or not Zimmer decides to retain any kind of homage to John Williams’ classic theme remains to be seen, but we’re looking forward to something mean and moody to match the film’s dark new take on the Superman logo. Man Of Steel opens in the UK on 14 June 2013.
