The post Henry Cavill would be “very keen” to speak to James Bond producers about a future role appeared first on Game News.
]]>Asked by The Movie Dweeb whether he would be keen on playing a Bond villain, Cavill said: “If [Bond producers] Barbara [Broccoli] and Michael [G. Wilson] are interested in me in any capacity to be a part of their movies, then I will gladly have that discussion.”
He added: “That would be something I’d be very keen to explore further.”

Cavill is among the most-popular frontrunners with both fans and bookmakers to replace Daniel Craig as 007. That’s partially fuelled by the fact he auditioned for the iconic role at 22, with it ultimately going to Craig. The “any capacity” line leaves things open for him to play either the main spy – or a Bond villain.
The comments also echo what The Witcher actor has said previously on his chances of playing Bond.
“At this stage, it’s all up in the air. We’ll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting,” Cavill told GQ (opens in new tab) back in 2020. “If Barbara and Michael were interested in that, I would absolutely jump at the opportunity.”
Whoever gets chosen to step into the well-worn tux of the 00-agent will have to wait until next year. Barbara Broccoli has said serious discussions about Craig’s replacement won’t begin until 2022.
Next up for Henry Cavill is The Witcher season 2, which is set to release on Netflix on December 17.

Prior to 2006’s Casino Royale – which saw Daniel Craig cast as 007 – Cavill auditioned for the role of James Bond. The then-22-year-old ultimately didn’t make the cut – and received some interesting feedback from Casino Royale director Martin Campbell.
“I remember the director, Martin Campbell, saying, ‘Looking a little chubby there, Henry’,” Cavill explained to Men’s Health (opens in new tab) in 2019. “I didn’t know how to train or diet. And I’m glad Martin said something, because I respond well to truth. It helps me get better.”
Now he’s been a swole Superman, a gymbound Geralt, and a sexy Sherlock, the odds are more in his favour. No word yet on who will be replacing Daniel Craig as James Bond. He’s all set to appear in his fifth and final film as the 00-Agent this November in No Time to Die, so maybe expect an announcement when the dust has settled on the Cary Fukunaga-directed spy swan song.

]]>The post Pierce Brosnan wants men to “get out of the way” and let the next James Bond be a woman appeared first on Game News.
]]>When asked about whether he would like to see a female James Bond, Brosnan told THR (opens in new tab): “Yes! I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting.”
However, Brosnan doesn’t think it will become a reality while long-time producer Barbara Broccoli is in charge.
Perhaps still burned by being “kicked to the kerb” (via The Guardian (opens in new tab)) after what proved to be his final appearance in Die Another Day, he said: “I don’t think [a female Bond] is going to happen with the Broccolis. I don’t think that is going to happen under their watch.”
The future, though, may already be female in the Bond franchise. The next 007 will reportedly be introduced in Bond 25 (opens in new tab) (aka No Time to Die), with Captain Marvel actress Lashana Lynch rumoured to have taken over the codename (opens in new tab) from Daniel Craig’s newly-retired Bond in the movie.
In recent years, multiple iconic characters have been gender-swapped, including Doctor Who (currently played by Jodie Whittaker) and Thor (Natalie Portman will take over from Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Love and Thunder). So you should, to borrow a line from another ex-Bond in Sean Connery, never say never when it comes to casting a female Bond – no matter how many people are left shaken by the news.
From Dr. No to Spectre, here are the best James Bond movies (opens in new tab), ranked.

]]>The post Sam Mendes says Spectre is his last Bond movie (probably…) appeared first on Game News.
]]>Director Sam Mendes has been promoting the latest Bond outing Spectre ahead of its US release this week, and although he’s previously reneged on his original plans to only direct one Bond film, the chances of that happening again are slim.
Speaking with Deadline (opens in new tab), he confirmed that “There is a sense of completeness that wasn’t there at the end of Skyfall, and that’s what makes this feel different. It feels like there’s a rightness to it, that I have finished a journey.”

“You cast a new actor and find a new director, and make something totally new. I can, off the top of my head, give you three or four ideas for where it could go next. They’re all daring and big. To me, the enemy is repetition and laziness, and the great danger is not challenging the preexisting format.”
“These are my two chapters of the Bond myth. Someone else is going to write a chapter or 10 or 50, because Bond is strong enough for that, and because there’s enough to play with. Daniel may absolutely turn around six months’ time and feel his energy renewed. Or he might say just the opposite. If he is as sensible as I think he is, he needs to go away and have some time to think and do another job that’s completely different, which he’s already doing with Othello.” Never say never, right? Spectre is now open in UK and US cinemas.
