Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is nearly half the size on PS5 compared to the PS4 version of the game.

Just below, you can see a tweet from Twitter user @Zuby_Tech, which popped up earlier this week on October 24, just when the pre-load period for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy had first opened around the world. As the user notes, the file size of Eidos Montreal’s game is nearly 60GB on PS4, but that’s cut down to a much more manageable 31GB on PS5.

Of course, this is hardly the first time we’ve seen a drastic reduction in file size of the same game compared to the two different console generations. Earlier this year in May, Subnautica dev Unknown Worlds managed to shrink the file size of their game from 14GB to 3.5GB when porting it over from the PS4 to the PS5. That’s a reduction in file size of 70%.

At the time, Unknown Worlds revealed that this had been possible due to the compression tech afforded by the PS5’s advanced data-streaming efficiency within its SSD. Even before the PS5 launched last year in November, Sony was already talking up the new-gen console’s ability to dramatically reduce the file size of games due to its SSD tech, and earlier this year, Subnautica was one of the best examples of the tech in action.

Now, that crown perhaps belongs to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, as the game shrinks by nearly 50% on PS5. For our glowing review of Eidos Montreal’s new venture, which we reckon might even be better than the famed Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, you can head over to our full Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy review for more.

Square Enix has updated the PC requirements to run its upcoming action RPG, Guardians of the Galaxy.

According to a recent update on Steam (opens in new tab), Guardians of the Galaxy will require a chunky 150GB of space on your PC in order to install the game, and recommends you use a fast SSD to boost performance.

Don’t panic too much, though; the 150GB is just required for installation purposes. The game itself will reportedly only takes up around 32GB, which is much more manageable (thanks, TheGamer (opens in new tab)).

As for what else you’ll need? Recommended requirements include a 64-bit processor and operating system, Windows 10, AMD Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel Core i7-4790, 16 GB RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 590. You’ll also need DirectX Version 12, too.

As a bare minimum, you’ll need 8 GB RAM, an AMD Ryzen 5 1400 or Intel Core i5-4460 processor, and Nvidia GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 570 to join the Star-Lord.

ICYMI, developer Eidos-Montréal recently clarified that Adam Warlock will be a “key character” in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (opens in new tab) as opposed to having a minor side appearance.

In a brief (and we do mean brief; it’s six seconds long) teaser on the game’s official Twitter account,we saw Adam Warlock walking around an alien environment, saying: “So, the shepherd’s found fresh flock”. We don’t know who he’s talking to, but we already had it confirmed that the Universal Church of Truth will be one of the antagonists in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we suspect it’s likely Adam is referring to Grand Unifier Raker.

Of course, you won’t be able to play as him, though; only Star-Lord is a playable character in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Sam enjoyed the brief time she went hands-on in Guardians of the Galaxy. “My time spent on the Milano pre-mission was then as much about learning about these characters and how they tick, as it was about trying to diffuse the situation somewhat,” she said.

“You can upgrade the Guardians’ perks at work benches using the components you collect during missions, which boost the moves or weapons the Guardians already have – like shields, health, or cool-down times. You also have Ability points that you can use to unlock new moves for each Guardian that you can equip at any point.”

For our early impressions on Eidos-Montréal’s superhero game, check out our recent Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy hands-on preview (opens in new tab).

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is changing up the origins of the intergalactic superhero team.

Just yesterday on August 19, Eidos Montreal senior creative director Jean-Francois Dugas dropped some new information on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy over on the PlayStation Blog (opens in new tab). Dugas reveals that Marvel gave the studio permission for a “carte blanche” take on the superhero team, leading Eidos Montreal to change up some aspects of Peter Quill, Drax, Gamora, Rocket, and Groot.

Perhaps chiefly, there’s a change to Star-Lord’s origins. While still maintaining that he was kidnapped from Earth at a young age, Eidos Montreal’s game has Quill finding his ‘Star-Lord’ moniker from his favorite band on Earth, instead of seemingly plucking it out of thin air like he does in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Dugas also revealed a very different backstory to the wider Marvel universe in Eidos Montreal’s game. In this universe, there was a massive intergalactic war involving the Chitauri roughly 12 years ago, which feeds into the backstories of the individual Guardians. For example, Drax killed Thanos during this war, and Gamora defected from Thanos and the Chitauri to help end the ongoing war.

It’s nice that Eidos Montreal has been given free rein on their own interpretation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so there’ll be plenty of new details for even lifelong Marvel fans to uncover. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy launches later this year on October 26 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Nintendo Switch.

For a deeper dive into the making of the new game, head over to our Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy interview with some of the leading minds at Eidos Montreal.

Guardians of the Galaxy #16 kicks off ‘The Last Annihilation,’ the first crossover of Marvel’s so-called ‘New Age of Space’ which brings back the title of the publisher’s classic cosmic event story Annihilation.

Now, Marvel has released a preview of interior pages from Guardians of the Galaxy #15 (opens in new tab), showing a confrontation between the newly superhero-focused Guardians and S.W.O.R.D., the mutant space agency, specifically Magneto. The issue sets the stage for ‘The Last Annihilation’ – including revealing the villain of the story.

“The Last Annihilation will begin in July’s Guardians of the Galaxy #16 (opens in new tab) but the mastermind behind this latest threat has been kept under wraps. However, fans won’t have to wait long! After months of speculation, fans will finally learn the identity of the saga’s secret villain next month in Guardians of the Galaxy #15,” reads Marvel’s statement, included with the pages.

“The issue will deliver an ending no one will see coming and will also see two heavyweights from Ewing’s current titles collide. Both reeling from recent conflicts, the new Guardians of the Galaxy will come face to face with mutantkind’s new space agency, S.W.O.R.D.” the description continues. “Get a glimpse at the Guardians’ tense showdown with the master of magnetism, Magneto, in all-new never-before-seen artwork by series artist Juan Frigeri!”

The original Annihilation crossover (opens in new tab) focused on Annihilus, the villainous dictator of the Negative Zone, and his Annihilation wave of devouring insectoids. Marvel has been teasing the identity of the new story’s villain, with the baddie’s silhouetted form gracing the now revealed cover of Guardians of the Galaxy #16.

“In recent issues, the Guardians of the Galaxy have increased their ranks like never before, recruiting powerhouses such as Wiccan, Hulkling, the original Quasar, and even Doctor Doom! But will they all be enough to withstand what’s to come?” Marvel’s statement concludes. “Pick up Guardians of the Galaxy #15 to discover what villain is behind ‘The Last Annihilation’ and to see the twisted vision they have in store for the galaxy.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy and S.W.O.R.D. have been building their own unique gravity for a while now, and in space, when two objects have gravity, there’s a pretty good chance they’ll crash into each other – or get sucked into the orbit of something even bigger,” writer Al Ewing states. “Marvel Space these days is a fragile coalition of worlds that chose peace over war, a little bubble of hope in a cruel void – but there’s an enemy nobody ever suspected readying an attack that’ll either cement all those frail alliances or tear them to pieces.”

Guardians of the Galaxy #15 is due out June 23, followed by Guardians of the Galaxy #16 on July 21.

The original Annihilation is one of the best Marvel Comics stories of all time.

Aside from being one of Marvel’s biggest rising cover artists, Momoko is currently lending her talents as both artist and writer to Demon Days, a series of one-shots that reimagine popular Marvel characters through a lens of Japanese folklore.

The first Demon Days one-shot, Demon Days: X-Men, brought several characters back to the days of feudal Japan in a fantasy-inspired tale. The next Demon Days one-shot, June’s Demon Days: Mariko, takes things in a slightly different direction with a more modern fantasy setting for its folkloric twist on Marvel’s characters.

Many of the characters featured in the variant covers factor into the 10 greatest Marvel stories of all time.

Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista has hinted that the James Gunn-directed threequel – and the MCU as a whole – might have been changed by the recent wave of delays that saw Marvel Phase 4 pushed back to 2021.

Bautista, who has played Drax in four Marvel movies, gave EW (opens in new tab) an update on 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

“I saw a script early on when we were all on schedule and James Gunn was attached before everything went nutso. I believe because [Marvel’s] whole calendar has changed, that storylines have changed, and they won’t intersect like originally planned,” he said.

While Bautista was understandably vague on the specifics, it’s clear that there could be a serious knock-on effect thanks to the likes of Black Widow releasing a year later than originally planned. The original order of releases has changed, too, with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier now coming before Black Widow and after WandaVision. Ms. Marvel has even been bumped up into a late 2021 slot to pre-empt her appearance in Captain Marvel 2.

As for those intersecting storylines? Thor: Love and Thunder is reportedly adding Chris Pratt to its cast and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was set to release in the same year in 2022. There’s every chance the God of Thunder was set to return the favour and do double duty. Now, there’s every chance an Asgardian of the Galaxy crossover could be cancelled. Maybe they can all appear in Spider-Man 3? That movie is in serious need of some star power…

Marvel Studios just loves putting in nods to other properties in its MCU movies. Think back to the Black Panther (opens in new tab) reference in Iron Man 2 (opens in new tab) or the wealth of some of the other best Marvel Easter eggs (opens in new tab) and blink-and-you’ll-miss-it mentions to other heroes across the past decade. But this potential Captain Marvel (opens in new tab) scene involving a Guardians of the Galaxy (opens in new tab) member’s origin could beat them all in terms of just how hidden and brilliant it is. Mild spoilers for Captain Marvel to follow…

Forget Ronan and even Korath, the Guardians of the Galaxy ties run even deeper than that according to one amazing fan theory from chrisHANDmade on Reddit (opens in new tab), which suggests that Star-Lord himself has an incredibly brief cameo in Captain Marvel.

Remember that long sequence with the Skrulls probing Carol’s memory for answers to Mar-vell’s whereabouts? In it, there’s a tender moment between the future Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau, daughter of Danvers’ bestie, Maria. They’re outside on a starry night and, just briefly, a shooting star flashes across the screen. That, according to the theory, was the spaceship that took Star-Lord away during the first scene of Guardians. Yes, really.

Now, before you start getting your pitchforks and heading to the comments, here’s why it’s not as far-fetched as you might think. Carol crashed (and was whisked away to Hala) at some point in 1989. That memory, obviously, comes before then. When was Peter Quill taken from Earth by Yondu and his? 1988, according to that movie’s opening title card. The stars have aligned, as it were.

To back things up further, NeptuneCA on Reddit (opens in new tab) also points to the fact that two actresses are listed in the credits. For 1995, there’s an 11-year-old Monica Rambeau. Before that, there’s a four-year-old Monica. Now, my maths is a little rusty, but seven years before 1995 is most definitely 1988, which is when the shooting star scene would have been set. Bingo.

Sure, it might be nothing, but it’s nice to think that Captain Marvel witnessed Star-Lord’s first trip into space. And if that is true, it ranks right up there with the best MCU moments for thanks to just how sneaky it was. Maybe they’ll be able to talk about it once Avengers 4 (opens in new tab): Endgame has been and gone?

Need to find out more about the movie? Here’s everything you need to know about the Captain Marvel ending (opens in new tab) and Captain Marvel post-credits scene (opens in new tab).

It’s been one of Marvel’s best-kept secrets. Since Guardians of the Galaxy (opens in new tab), director James Gunn has teased the existence of a major Easter egg in the movie but, until now, no one’s got close to figuring it out. Key phrase: until now. Because it seems that one dedicated fan has put the pieces together and figured out the Easter egg – and it could have serious ramifications for the MCU-at-large.

YouTuber Second Son (H/T CBR (opens in new tab)) has staked a claim on entering MCU fans’ folklore as he breaks down the scene, you know the one, where the Collector goes through and painstakingly lists every Infinity Stone. You’d have been forgiven for glossing over this piece of exposition – but Second Son had no such plans.

When the Power Stone is mentioned, as you can see in the video above, a certain face is seen wincing in anguish. That face, remarkably, harkens back to a 1997 comic showing the origins of the world eater, Galactus. The theory goes, that we’re seeing the birth of Galactus in the MCU and, presumably, he’s still out there somewhere.

Once Galen of the planet Taa, Galactus was born after the merging of Galen and the Sentience. While Guardians of the Galaxy’s Power Stone story doesn’t quite go along those lines, it definitely lines up pretty significantly – including the spectre that once held the purple-hued power source resembling Galactus’ helmet.

So, is this the big find we’ve all been waiting for? Honestly, I think so. That comic book panel is just too similar to be anything other than a direct nod but there’s the small matter of the character still having its movie rights owned by Fox. It could be the cheekiest of teases from James Gunn – and we won’t know until he confirms it as such – but, for now, this is both as close to a Fox/Marvel crossover as we’re getting, and possibly confirmation of one of the best Marvel Easter eggs (opens in new tab) in movie history.

Dave Bautista’s turn as Drax the Destroyer was one of the surprise highlights of Guardians Of The Galaxy , with the former wrestler showing off some serious comedic chops to complement that imposing frame.

So popular has the character proven, that he may be about to get something of a promotion, with reports claiming that he could have a significant part to play in The Avengers 3 .

According to wrestling fansite PW Mania , Marvel is preparing a new deal for Bautista that would incorporate him into the Avengers setup, in what the site describes as “a major role”.

Director James Gunn has previously claimed that Guardians will be clearly linked to The Avengers 3 , so that would appear to chime with the rumour, although the link could more feasibly be through Josh Brolin’s role as Thanos…

In any case, we’d be all for seeing Drax in a more prominent role, be that in The Avengers 3 or Guardians 2 . Metaphors at the ready…

Total Film recently got a chance to catch up with Michael Rooker to mark the release of The Walking Dead season three on DVD and Blu-ray.

The actor, who made a name for himself in Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer before building up an extremely diverse CV, plays Merle Dixon in the zombie TV drama, which has recently started broadcasting its fourth season.

Read on to find out what Rooker had to say about the show, but beware – HUGE SPOILERS follow for anyone not up-to-date with The Walking Dead .

Still with us? Don’t say we didn’t warn you…

So the last time we saw you, you’d been turned into a zombie and shot by your own brother… were you happy to go out like that?

“It was a great arc from season one, all the way to the end. Thinking about it though I guess it was one of those blaze of glory deals!”

What was it like being around all that blood and gore every day? Did you get a bit sick of eating lunch with people dressed as zombies?

“Those zombies tend to hang out with themselves! At lunch time, the zombies have their own little table… Greg Nicotero is so good at that kind of stuff. It’s all so real. You did get a bit… Oooh… I think I’ll eat looking this way!”

Did they tell you where the series is headed next?

“Not at all. Everything was very hush hush, even when you’re doing it. Now that I’m not doing it I couldn’t even imagine being kept in the loop!”

Are you going to keep watching it?

“I will. I really enjoyed the work, but I also enjoyed watching it. I just caught up though – I didn’t watch all of the episodes whilst I was doing them, I didn’t have time. I hear there’s going to be a marathon real soon too. To be honest I watched about four or five episodes on the way over here on the plane. Un-edited too! They had five or six in a row and I just kept watching them until I was done.”

You’re busy filming Guardians Of The Galaxy at the moment, how’s it going? Are you having fun?

“I tell people in these Q&As or at conventions that Merle has moved on to a better place! Marvel heaven y’all! I love the role. My role as Yondu is killer, man. It’s a killer role. I’m having a great time.”

The Walking Dead season three is available on DVD and Blu-ray now.
