The post GTA Online patch notes: triple salaries and big bonuses for tons of jobs appeared first on Game News.
]]>As usual in GTA Online, this week’s update proves the real money is in illicit business dealings. To start, Special Cargo and Gunrunning sell missions are paying out a 50% bonus GTA$ and RP for this week. Elsewhere, GTA Online players can score triple rewards by getting in on the vehicular action of both Sumo (Remix) and Roadgame, while Paige Harris’s Client Jobs will pay out double the usual rewards.
Rockstar recently started offering premium test rides for GTA Online players on PS5 and Xbox Series X, and this week’s new-gen exclusive extra is the weaponized Pegassi Zentorno, which also happens to be the prize ride for placing in the top 3 in the Pursuit Series for five consecutive days. Meanwhile, everyone playing GTA Online, no matter the platform, can test out the Dewbauchee Champion, Lampadati Tigon, and the Ocelot Jugular free of charge. And if you want to try out your luck at the Lucky Wheel, the top prize this week is the Annis Euros, which looks a lot like my all-time favorite car (which I’ll never be cool enough to own in real life), the Nissan 370Z.
This week’s discounts are split between business materials and vehicles as well as their upgrades. Here’s the full list of GTA Online discounts this week:

]]>The post GTA 5 loads three times faster on PS5 appeared first on Game News.
]]>GTA 5 is a big game, and vast open worlds often come with significant loading times, but thanks to the powerhouse that is the PS5, this is not the case with the newest iteration of the crime sim on Sony’s latest console.
VGC (opens in new tab) put the next-gen rerelease of GTA 5 to the test, reporting that the PS5 version of the game loaded from the main menu into story mode in 27 seconds. That’s significantly faster than its PS4 counterpart, which takes over a minute and a half to get into the action.
You can see the results for yourself in the video below.
The loading times aren’t as fast as other PS5 titles like Marvel’s Avengers, which boasts loading times that “are pretty much instant”, or Spider-Man: Miles Morales where you can be zipping around New York City in mere seconds, but it’s still a remarkable improvement and good news for those eager to enter Los Santos’ criminal underbelly once again. The time reduction is even more impressive given that GTA 5 was originally developed as a PlayStation 3 title.
Rockstar recently gave details on GTA Online’s Career Builder feature, which gives newcomers instant access to properties as well as a sizeable amount of starting cash to spend on trendy outfits, designer apartments and fast cars.
It’s been a long time since we’ve had a brand new GTA game, but Rockstar recently confirmed that the development of GTA 6 is “well underway”. With a sequel in active development, is this the beginning of GTA Online’s swansong?

]]>Twitter user and creator of Rockstar Mag @Chris_Klippel (opens in new tab) recently claimed (translated via Twitter): “An important step in the development of #GTA6 has just been reached. Things should speed up (internally at Rockstar).” The rest of the tweet read: “I think that a (real) announcement at the end of the year may be possible. In any case, I don’t see the game arriving before the end of 2024.”

Although not officially linked with Rockstar, Klippel has previously leaked other intel about the upcoming GTA game as well as other info about games in the series. Previously, the Rockstar enthusiast claimed that GTA 6 “is Rockstar’s most chaotic project since its creation” due to several changes during the game’s development including its narrative, characters, setting, map, and more.
In case you missed it, GTA 6 was reported as being in “active development” and “well underway” by Rockstar back in February of this year. The announcement was made via a Grand Theft Auto community update, but there hasn’t actually been an official trailer or really any more info about the project released since then.
Contrary to Klippel’s claims, analysts have recently said that GTA 6 could release in 2023. Of course, neither of these sources are officially linked with Rockstar so it’s best to take both claims with a grain of salt. To be certain, we will have to wait for Rockstar to make an official announcement on GTA 6’s release date. Which, if these rumored release windows are anything to go off of, might not be for some time yet.

Bridge Location 1: This bridge is the La Puerta Freeway. You can find it at the far south, just to the east of the airport.

Bridge Location 2: Located just north of the Port of Los Santos, this bridge takes some patience and a tender touch to get under. Go slow and keep moving forward.

Bridge Location 3: Found just east of the previous bridge, try to keep the same height from the last bridge and zip under this one as well.

Bridge Location 4: This curved bridge can be hard to miss. Keep it low and continue through to the next bridge as well.

Bridge Location 5: Located right next to the previous bridge, you’ll be able to get this easily by staying at the same height and just just staying on a straight path.

Bridge Location 6: This bridge is located just east of the Port of Los Santos and crosses with the Elysian Fields Highway.

Bridge Location 7: Fly under the Elysian Fields Highway located to the south of Los Santo to get rewarded for this bridge.

Bridge Location 8: Head north along the aqueduct between South Los Santos and East Los Santos where you will come across the next few bridges.

Bridge Location 9

Bridge Location 10

Bridge Location 11
Note: Bridges 12-19 are located in North Los Santos.

Bridge Location 20: Fly under this bridge located where the Del Perro highway and the Olympic highway meet.

Bridge Location 21: To get this bridge and the next few bridges, simply fly along the aqueduct located between La Puerta and South Los Santos.

Bridge Location 15

Bridge Location 16: Easily one of the more difficult bridges to get under in the game. Your best bet is to grab yourself a Buzzard helicopter to get through.

Bridge Location 17: Found right after #16, this bridge is just as difficult. Make sure to get yourself the Buzzard chopper to make things easier.

Bridge Location 18: Head south on the Del Perro highway from the previous bridges and you will come across this bridge and the next two right after another.

Bridge Location 19
Note: Bridges 20-27 are located in South Los Santos.

Bridge Location 28: Take a cruise up the 5 along the east coast and you will come across this train bridge.

Bridge Location 29: Located just north of the previous bridge, this one is a little easier to get under when approaching it from the east side.

Bridge Location 30: One of the more sneaky “bridges” in the game, this arch can be found just to the south of the Power Station.

Bridge Location 31: Located to the southwest of the Power Station, you will come across these next two bridges located right beside each other.

Bridge Location 32

Bridge Location 33: This bridge, located on the opposite coast, can be found near Chumash, along the Great Ocean Highway. There are two identical bridges, but you’ll only get credit for one of them.

Bridge Location 34: You can find this bridge just south of Fort Zancudo. Just be sure to stay away from the fort itself.

Bridge Location 35: Located just southeast of the Fort, this bridge can be found by following the rapids coming down.

Bridge Location 36: This train bridge can be found east of the fort and above the Zancudo River.

Bridge Location 37: This small wooden bridge can be a bit tricky to spot and even trickier to get under. Go slow and take your time. You don’t have much room to play with.

Bridge Location 38: Just to the west of Harmony, this bridge can be found by following the dirt paths that cross under the 38 highway.

Bridge Location 39: Near the southwestern mouth that leads into the Alamo sea, this train bridge can be found just south of Stab City.

Bridge Location 40: Located directly in front of the previous bridge, you can pass under this one while staying on the same course.

Bridge Location 41: To the east coast, this bridge is located under the Senora highway, just south of the Bolingbroke Penitentiary.

Bridge Location 42: This bridge is located to the direct east of the previous bridge, on the other side of the wind farms.

Bridge Location 43: This bridge is located where the Senora highway and route 68 meet. it’s easy enough to get under, just watch for traffic.

Bridge Location 44: This bridge is easy to spot thanks to the giant red cow on the top of it.

Bridge Location 45: This bridge can be found due east of the big red cow bridge.

Bridge Location 46: Located at the north west mouth of the Alamo Sea, this train bridge doesn’t leave much room to get under.

Bridge Location 47: Located midway down Cassidy Creek, this bridge is easy to spot thanks the enormity of it. Also helps to get under a little quicker.

Bridge Location 48: Located to the northwest of the previous bridge, this tricky one can be a little hard to spot given the size of it.

Bridge Location 49: Found at the mouth of the Cassidy Creek on the far west coast, this large bridge is easy to spot and one of the more fun ones to zoom under.

Bridge Location 50: This last bridge can be found at the very north of Blaine County, just to the east a little ways. Look for the train crossing over the main highway there and fly under it.

]]>The post GTA 5 PS5 and Xbox Series X versions get three graphics modes appeared first on Game News.
]]>Rockstar announced today that GTA 5 would boast Fidelity and Performance modes when it launches on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S this month. First up, Fidelity Mode limits the gameplay to 30 frames per second, but boosts the visuals up to native 4K with ray tracing on PS5 and Xbox Series X, while the Series S supports upscaled 4K.
Next, Performance Mode boasts a crisp 60FPS across all three platforms. While the PS5 and Xbox Series X will support upscaled a 4K resolution in this mode, the Series S will sit back at 1080p. Finally, the PS5 and Xbox Series X will offer a bonus Performance RT mode, combining 60FPS gameplay with upscaled 4K graphics and ray tracing available.
There’ll also be other new-gen features launching alongside this. The PS5’s DualSense controller will offer haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, taking on weather conditions, damage, and more. There’ll also be 3D offered on the PS5, as well as Spatial Sound on the Xbox Series X and S.
Starting today, you can transfer your GTA 5 story progress over to the eventual new-gen version by uploading your save data to the Rockstar Games Social Club. When the new-gen version of GTA 5 launches later this month on March 15, you’ll immediately be able to transfer GTA 5 Story Mode progress to PS5 and XSX through your Rockstar Games Social Club, including your vehicles, progression, stats, and more.

]]>The post GTA Online Short Trips has given Rockstar a framework for future story DLC appeared first on Game News.
]]>Having recently acknowledged the development of GTA 6 in earnest, the process through which Franklin and Lamar’s Short Trips has been made accessible, for me, has set a precedent for how story mode content could, and should, be delivered to Grand Theft Auto in future.

GTA Online The Contract interview: Shawn Fonteno on returning as Franklin and reuniting with Dr. Dre
Fans of GTA 5 have been calling for story content for years, pretty much since Franklin Clinton’s mainline narrative concluded at the climax of the base game’s Story Mode. Alongside Michael De Santa and Trevor Philips, Franklin is, of course, one of GTA 5’s playable single-player protagonists, who is often helped and hindered by childhood pal Lamar Davis. In the early days of GTA Online, Lamar enjoyed a small but distinct presence in Los Santos, first welcoming the player to the live-service sandbox and then offering a total of 17 low-level missions (nine originally, with a further eight introduced in 2015’s Lowriders update). Franklin, on the other hand, reentered the fold for the first time in eight years via last December’s The Contract update – much to the delight of players and Shawn Fonteno, the voice of Mr Clinton himself.
In doing so, it was nice to see Franklin and Lamar reunited, and great to see eternally good-boy Chop the dog still chewing a bone while sporting a shock of stately grey hairs. Gamified versions of music legends Dr Dre, DJ Pooh, and Jimmy Iovine were pretty sweet too, as was Short Trips – a trio of Story Mode-like ventures starring Franklin and Lamar that, once activated, let you temporarily ditch your customised GTA Online avatar to fill the shows of the gruesome twosome in two-player co-op. Given that Short Trips could only be unlocked after completing Dr Dre’s multi-tiered string of VIP contract missions, Rockstar had in essence slipped in a story-driven expansion at the very end of an already stellar and free-of-charge update.
At the tail-end of last week, approximately two months after the launch of The Contract on December 15, 2021, Short Trips was made available to all players, meaning the requirement to work through Dre’s map-spanning set-pieces in order to reunite with Franklin and Lamar no longer stands. Players can now jump into Franklin and Lamar’s capers as they storm Vagos drug warehouses, literally burn down the competition, and drive a van composed of actual weed whenever they please.

“Story-driven added content for GTA 5 once felt like matter of when and not if.”
Which is a pretty big deal. In a Newswire post dated December 9, 2013, Rockstar reflected on GTA Online just a few months after launch while looking to the future. Under the heading ‘Coming in 2014’, the developer said it had “big plans for substantial additions continuing Michael, Franklin and Trevor’s action” for those players “ready to jump back into the story of Grand Theft Auto 5”. Following the success of GTA 4’s single-player expansions – The Ballad of Gay Tony and The Lost and Damned – a few years earlier, story-driven added content for GTA 5 felt like matter of when and not if.
And then GTA Online took off. With record-breaking player counts recorded after every substantial update, a seemingly unshakable spot on most-played and top-sellers charts across the board, and untold revenue streams gleaned from Shark Cards – in-game items that grant players in-game money, purchasable with real-world cash – the notion for single-player DLC, on the developer’s side at least, was promptly parked. In a 2017 interview with Game Informer, then Rockstar design director Imran Sarwar said skipping a GTA 5 story expansion wasn’t a conscious decision, but said upgrading the game’s visuals for next-gen consoles in 2015 took a year to complete, before Red Dead Redemption 2 swallowed resources further still. “We did not feel single-player expansions were either possible or necessary,” he said.
The fact that you can now boot up GTA Online and access Short Trips via the game’s Jobs Menu without completing Dre’s VIP missions – access to which demands a minimum in-game spend of $2million on an Agency property – almost contradicts what Sarwar said five years ago, or at least suggests that attitude behind the scenes has changed in the interim. Short Trips isn’t strictly a single-player expansion, it’s accessed through GTA Online and takes the form of two-player co-op, but in GTA terms, it’s as good as one. At the time of writing, matchmaking with a partner is essentially an instantaneous process, and, opting to play as the host (Franklin) or the guest (Lamar) will ensure you assume control of the same character every time.

“Rockstar is an expert in hype – a skill it’s spent 25 years refining; the pinnacle of which saw Dr freaking Dre release six never-before-heard tracks as timed-exclusives in GTA Online.”
This, surely, is the best of both worlds for both GTA’s playerbase and Rockstar moving forward. The latter is an expert in hype – a skill it’s spent 25 years refining; the pinnacle of which saw Dr freaking Dre release six never-before-heard tracks as timed-exclusives in GTA Online – and yet, as the backlash against the Trilogy’s Definitive Edition last year showed, it is by no means infallible. It could be argued that Rockstar’s recent acknowledgment of GTA 6 being in active development, something it surely did not need to do, was a gesture of goodwill. Looking at it more cynically, however, it could also be argued the reveal was designed to drum up publicity for GTA 5’s incoming Expanded and Enhanced edition, due on March 15 – the GTA 6 nod featured in the same E&E-focused Newswire post, after all.
Ultimately, I don’t think it matters either way, though, because it feels like Rockstar has set a new precedent for how it handles story-driven add-ons and how they’re introduced. Don’t get me wrong: I’d love to see standalone expansions in the vein of The Ballad of Gay Tony and The Lost and Damned for GTA 6. But a far more likely outcome is the staggered approach pioneered here by Short Trips – where content is rolled out within the bounds of a big-budget (free to the player if they own the base game) Online update, before being drip-fed to the masses down the line.
Like Fortnite, PUBG Battlegrounds, Warzone, and Apex Legends, GTA Online proves gaming’s live-service trend isn’t going away anytime soon – and, given its success, it’s unlikely that Rockstar’s fascination or interest with it will do so either. But that shouldn’t mean Rockstar’s scope for telling great stories should suffer in turn. With Short Trips, it feels like the studio has found a home for both, which bodes well for the next Grand Theft Auto and whatever shape its online component takes.
Here’s How to play GTA Online Short Trips for co-op adventures with Franklin and Lamar.

]]>The discovery was spotted by Rockstar Mag (opens in new tab) (via IGN (opens in new tab)), who noted that Houser was listed as the director of a new company called Absurd Ventures In Games (opens in new tab). In the official business listing for the company, it’s noted that it was incorporated on June 23rd and has an office in Chesire, UK.
And that’s… about everything we know about the company right now. It’s clear that this is a new venture from Houser, but the prospective scale and scope of the company isn’t clear. While it certainly sounds like it’s set to take part in the game space, there’s no guarantee this is a new game developer from Houser. It’s entirely possible this is a consultancy or something else entirely. However, on the business directory Endole (opens in new tab), the company is classified as “ready-made interactive leisure and entertainment software development”.
Whatever Houser is up to, it’s bound to generate great interest. Often credited as one of the masterminds of the GTA and Red Dead Redemption series, alongside being a producer on most Rockstar games, Houser also wrote on every game in both series.
Dan Houser left Take-Two Interactive back in February of last year, leaving his brother Sam Houser behind to lead Rockstar. Dan Houser hasn’t yet resurfaced, but this is the first inkling of what he might be up to. He had a huge hand in crafting Rockstar Games, which is one of the most influential developers in the entire world. Being so involved in Grand Theft Auto’s rise into one of the most profitable intellectual properties of all time is bound to generate interest from fans and investors alike.
If this does end up being a serious venture into games development, it will be very interesting to see what Houser produces unchained from Rockstar. That being said, this appears to be very early days for the company. Houser is the only named employee, so it’s unlikely there is a team out there deep in development for his next game. Still, watch this space.
Elsewhere, recent rumors suggest that GTA 6 could be set in Vice-City.

]]>The post Grand Theft Auto V is now playable inside of an AI appeared first on Game News.
]]>AI is a term that is often used when talking about video games, but what it usually refers to is a behavioral set of rules that are reacting to the player. Enemies in games aren’t true AI that are actively trying to learn or do things that end up with them eventually taking over the world.
However, there are interesting applications involving games that are using more powerful, traditional AI. That’s what GAN Theft Auto is trying to do. YouTuber Harrison Kinsley and Daniel Kukieła have posted a video (via PC Gamer (opens in new tab)) about their work, which essentially has a portion of Grand Theft Auto V working entirely within an AI’s ‘mind’. You can watch it here:
It’s a fascinating video, which showcases the bizarre, dream-like version of GTA V. The play is generated through the AI, which has been learning the same stretch of road over and over again, including the behavior of a car on the road. The AI has been studying it and learning how it all interacts. It’s noted that none of the code has been inputted by human hand, this has purely been the on the AI to craft and output this play.
As the pun of a name might imply, the project is using a GAN or a generative adversarial network. This is essentially two neural networks conflicting with each other to create fake data or images. One generates an image, while another keeps the other one in check, making sure it isn’t overreaching.
That is a huge oversimplification of the impressive tech on display here, but hopefully gives you a working idea of what is going on. For a fuller understanding, it’s definitely worth watching the full video. However, to put it in as simple terms as possible, you can now play Grand Theft Auto V in the mind of a computer. The future is wild.
While what’s here is hardly a game, it doesn’t make the tech any less impressive. It also opens up the door to some fascinating applications in game making in the future. This tech is still very new, and while I wouldn’t expect to play fully formed games crafted by AI soon, the supplemental applications could be massive to some parts of game design.
This kind of AI-assisted tech will hopefully push games even further than before in the future, and it could well be built on the back of smaller projects like this.

]]>The post GTA 5 photorealistic footage created using a machine learning model appeared first on Game News.
]]>GTA 5 was a graphical marvel when it first released back in 2013, and while it’s had a few upgrades since then, it’s certainly starting to show it’s age. This beautiful photorealistic enhancement of GTA 5 not only makes Los Santos look like a real place, it also gives us an idea of what GTA 6 could aspire to.
The video was posted to Youtube by Intel ISL (opens in new tab) and shared onto the r/videos subreddit (opens in new tab). Sadly, you can’t play this photorealistic version of GTA 5, as this isn’t a mod that you can download. The photorealistic visuals are achieved by passing the game through an image enhancement network that uses photos of real world locations to alter the rendered image.
This isn’t as simple as just getting an AI to enhance video footage of the game though. Instead, the team behind the footage also uses GTA 5’s rendering buffers to gain geometric information like surface normals and distance to the camera, along with other material information like lighting and reflectivity.
The results are incredibly impressive though, and you can definitely let yourself be fooled into thinking that you’re watching live action footage. What sets this method of image enhancement apart from most other techniques is that it is temporarily stable, which means you don’t get artifacts popping up when the image moves.
The image data for this mod is actually based on German cities, which leads to some interesting mistakes like it turning the barren hillsides of Los Santos into verdant hills. Since it’s working on data from a temperate climate, the model expects hillsides to be covered in vegetation and so it “fixes” the error. Sorry AI model, that’s just what hills in LA look like.
Still, while this video presents an interesting “What If?” scenario for GTA 5, there’s plenty of life left in Rockstar’s open-world magnum opus. After all, a PS5 version is still due to launch this year, which was announced at last year’s Future of Play showcase, and should give us another reason to revisit the misadventures of Trevor, Michael, and Franklin. We can’t wait to see how it compares to this photorealistic video.
