The post Gotham Knights lead says Nightwing has raided the Bat Cave for his tools appeared first on Game News.
]]>Earlier this month, Gotham Knights showed off brand new gameplay starring the two heroes taking on a horde of bad guys in Gotham City. Now, in a recent Discord (opens in new tab) Q&A session, Gotham Knights creative director Patrick Redding has delved into detail on the thinking behind Nightwing and Red Hood’s various abilities.
As first reported by Eurogamer (opens in new tab), Redding reveals the idea behind Nightwing’s arsenal was to make it look like he’d been through Batman’s tool shed. “We liked the death-defying angle of him looking at all the various stealth drones in Batman’s arsenal and calculating that he could just get away with hanging off one of the smaller models and still be able to maintain or gain altitude with it,” Redding said.
Nightwing also has a Flying Trapeze ability to glide gracefully over Gotham’s rooftops, which apparently feels a lot different to the likes of Batgirl’s traditional cape. Nightwing’s Flying Trapeze “blends really well with his bigger parkour and leap moves, as well as with grappling,” adds Redding.
If you’re unfamiliar with Red Hood’s backstory, he was murdered and subsequently resurrected via the Lazarus Pit, which Redding reveals the developers at WB Montreal are tapping into. “We really liked the idea that as Jason starts to confront the trauma of dying and being brought back, he begins to be able to tap into some lost abilities,” the creative director said.
Apparently Red Hood is trying to “reinvent himself from anti-hero to hero” over the course of Gotham Knights, and this leads to him giving a lot of thought to how he uses his weapons and powers. “We’ll see that the Mystic Leap is just one manifestation of those powers,” Redding concluded.
Gotham Knights launches later this year on October 25 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. It’s only coming to new-gen consoles however, as last-gen versions have been cancelled to better the development of the final game.

]]>The post Gotham Knights wont have crossplay or local co-op appeared first on Game News.
]]>In an updated FAQ (opens in new tab), the devs say there will be no local multiplayer option, as “co-op mode can only be played with online with an internet connection.”
The devs also note that “cross-play support is not planned at this time.” That’s not a completely final answer, as “at this time” suggests cross-play could come in a future update, but you certainly shouldn’t expect the feature to be available at launch.
Recent store listings have suggested that the game might feature online co-op for up to four players, but that listing has since been corrected, and the FAQ makes repeated, exclusive references to “two-player, online co-op” modes.
The new gameplay video has left the internet with mixed reactions – us included. Combat animations are looking stiff, and Red Hood’s guns seem an odd fit for the melee-focused game. Of course, the severity of those issues won’t be clear until the game actually launches later this year.
Gotham Knights is set to be available across PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on October 25. PS4 and Xbox One versions have been cut in order “to provide players with the best possible gameplay experience.”
The other triple-A DC game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, was recently delayed to 2023.

]]>The post Gotham Knights PlayStation store listing states it supports “four network players” appeared first on Game News.
]]>Up until now, the official word from publisher Warner Bros. is that the game will be playable “in solo play or with one other hero” and together you can “drop in on criminal activity wherever you find it”. To date, there’s been no mention of four-player co-op, either in the main campaign or as an add-on or additional multiplayer mode.
However, according to the eagle-eyed SuspiciousTension19 on Reddit (opens in new tab) (thanks, PCGN (opens in new tab)), the game has “just updated on the PSN Store (opens in new tab)” and while the text description still states you can only play with one friend, the quick-look stats below the image now clearly says it “supports up to four online players with PS Plus”.
It’s possible that it’s an error that Sony will swiftly rectify, but I checked the store listing at the time of writing and it still states it supports four-player co-op several hours after news of the change first broke.

It’s equally possible, of course, that additional modes or an expanded co-op system have been added during the game’s lengthy delay (opens in new tab) – especially as the action game already boasts four playable characters from which to choose.
The Gotham Knights release date was finally confirmed in March for October 25, 2022, dashing hopes that Gotham Knights would release in April (opens in new tab) after a mysterious image popped in March suggested the game was coming soon.
The sighting came just days before an unannounced playtest for Gotham Knights also popped up on Steam. (opens in new tab) A Reddit post by the suspiciously-named SuspiciousTension19 – yes! The same Redditor that noticed the Gotham Knights description change – was swiftly deleted from Reddit because the “automated bots think it might be spam”, but in the Redditor’s defence, details of the app were clearly apparent on the Steam DB website, too, which monitors updates and additions made to Steam backend.
Of course, there’s every possibility that it was a closed and private beta that wasn’t supposed to reach the public consciousness and may have been for internal testing only… which now seems to be the case, of course.

]]>The post Warner Bros Games fate is unknown after Discovery/WarnerMedia merger appeared first on Game News.
]]>AT&T is selling off its WarnerMedia division to form a stand-alone merged company with Discovery, but the fate of Warner Bros Games studios is still unknown. There was no mention of Warner Bros Games in the official press release (opens in new tab) posted by AT&T which announced the merger. IGN’s Julia Alexander (opens in new tab) has since reported on the news, stating that the sale will include “some of Warner Bros Interactive/Warner Bros Games, but not all”.
Correcting part of this tweet:1) The sale includes some of Warner Bros. Interactive/Warner Bros. Games, but not all. 2) The sale does include DC Comics. Discovery, through the new venture, now effectively co-owns DC Comics with WB.3) Rooster Teeth is part of the sale, yes.May 17, 2021

So what does this all mean for Warner Bros Games? For now, we’re not sure just yet, but if these rumors are true then the studio could be being split into two or more separate entities. Warner Bros Games currently has 11 teams worldwide: Monolith Productions, Avalanche Software, NetherRealm Studios, TT Games, Rocksteady Studios, WB Games Montreal, WB Games Boston, WB Games New York, WB Games San Francisco, WB Games San Diego, and WB Los Angeles, which is the headquarters of WB Games.
If these teams are going to be split in half, then it’ll be interesting to see who goes where. The Discovery/Warner Bros merger is all about building one giant company dedicated to streaming and media content, with Discovery picking up the likes of HBO Max, CNN, TNT, and DC Comics in the purchase.
Almost every game that Warner Bros Games’ studios make is linked to a major TV, movie, or comic franchise, so they could all be great assets for this new company. Rocksteady is heavily linked with the Batman franchise thanks to the Arkham games and the upcoming Gotham Knights, so it’d make sense for Discovery to snap them up alongside DC Comics. Likewise NetherRealm is the team behind fighting game franchise Mortal Kombat, which has just had a major movie release on HBO Max.
It seems unlikely that AT&T is looking to hang onto Warner Bros Games in any capacity, given that it was reportedly trying to sell off the gaming division last year. Take-Two, Electronic Arts, and Activision Blizzard were among the interested parties last year, so it’s possible that some of the WB studios could end up being sold off to other gaming publishers too.
We’ll learn more about this deal in the coming weeks and months, and we’ll hopefully get some clarification on the fate of Warner Bros Games.
We’re expecting to hear about several big games from Warner Bros at E3 2021, including more on Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and Hogwarts Legacy.
