The post Hitman 3 takes out the competition to win PC Game of the Year at the Golden Joysticks appeared first on Game News.
]]>IO Interactive’s latest entry in the long-running assassin series carried on the story of the ‘World of Assassination’ from the previous two games. Agent 47 returns to take on another globe-trotting murderous adventure, with levels set across locations like Dubai, Berlin, and the UK’s own Dartmoor.
This year’s list of nominations was a great showcase of the diversity of PC releases this year, with Hitman 3 winning out over the former Skyrim-mod The Forgotten City and indie breakout hit Wildermyth.
The full list of nominees was as follows:
In our review, we called Hitman 3 a “great end to the trilogy, with a satisfying conclusion made from enjoyable and endlessly entertaining levels”.
“There’s something endlessly satisfying about unpacking and mastering the Groundhog Day playgrounds of Hitman 3,” wrote Leon Hurley at launch. “It should get boring; watching the same guards patrol their patrols, or workers work and characters wander well-worn tracks you know so well. But it never gets old. Knowing there’s the tiniest crack to slip through, or a moment to exploit that can leave a target oh so tragically killed is never dulled by the repetition of running and rerunning the scenario like a time traveler that can only leave the loop after meeting the right conditions.”
Hitman 3 is available now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

]]>The post Deathloop wins coveted Critics Choice Award at the Golden Joysticks 2021 appeared first on Game News.
]]>Launching in September on PC and as a timed console exclusive on PS5, Deathloop put players in the shoes of Colt, an assassin tasked with taking out eight targets in a single day. Until he – and thus you – figure out how to do that, the day will just keep repeating infinitely, allowing you to learn about each target’s movements, discover various ways to take them out, and how best to move around the world.
With the day split up into four distinct time zones, and the game’s world of Blackreef itself also divided into four districts, it’s mainly about figuring out where to be and when in order to find the perfect assassination route.
In our four-and-a-half star review, we praised Deathloop for not being what we expected it to be, and for the fact it “seemed to challenge expectations without reservation”.
“It’s a murder mystery that’s suspended in a time loop. It’s a first-person shooter that features a shotgun that can transform into a rifle. It’s a sci-fi spy adventure that’s stuck in the ’70s. It’s all of these things and none of them at all,” wrote Josh West. “My impression of Deathloop seemed to shift with every passing hour and, as a result, it’s difficult to not be impressed – if not thoroughly enthralled – with what Arkane has pieced together here. It’s different, it’s stylish, it’s new. You won’t play anything else quite like Deathloop for a very long time.”
Deathloop is playable now as a timed exclusive on PS5, as well as on PC.

]]>The post Final Fantasy 14 wins Best Community at the Golden Joystick Awards 2021 appeared first on Game News.
]]>Square Enix’s mega-popular MMO beat out some incredibly tough competition this year to take the award. It saw off the likes of Capcom’s excellent Monster Hunter Rise, the game that just keeps on giving years later in No Man’s Sky, and Bungie’s ongoing foray into new realms of Destiny 2.
You can see the full list of nominees just below:
Final Fantasy 14 has only gone from strength to strength over the past two years, in the aftermath of the astounding Shadowbringers expansion in 2019. The servers at times have barely been able to cope with the influx of players, and that’s without a significant new expansion having launched in over two years.
Square-Enix’s massive MMO is barreling towards the Endwalker expansion, which launches later this year in December. Set to bring to a close a storyline that’s been running now for well over a decade, the stakes couldn’t be higher for the heroic Scions and the player base at large, as all eyes are on Endwalker to provide a show-stopping conclusion to its brilliant saga.
“Final Fantasy 14’s climactic expansion feels like it’s building towards something special,” we wrote after going hands-on with Endwalker last month. “The expansion’s brand new content feels brilliantly put together, as though the Reaper and Sage will effortlessly meld into existence alongside the existing Jobs, and meaningful new changes like the Trust system upgrades and downscaled damage attributes feel primed to set up Final Fantasy 14 for even more success in the years to come.”
You can play Final Fantasy 14 right now on PC, PS5, and PS4.

]]>The post Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the Best Visual Design winner at the Golden Joysticks appeared first on Game News.
]]>Anyone who has seen the PS5 exclusive will know why. Released in June, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart takes our dynamic duo to a new dimension where they find new friends, new weird and wonderful guns, and – unfortunately – a whole new version of their nemesis Dr. Nefarious.
The Insomniac Games title beat some big hitters to take home the coveted Golden Joystick, including the psychedelic indie The Artful Escape and Double Fine’s Psychonauts 2.
It was a tough category to win, but Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart combines a popping neon world with great character design and sits up there with the best animated movies in terms of eye candy.
It’s just one of the reasons the game scored a rapturous five-star review on GamesRadar+.
“Even with the high-speed pace, the game always looks pristine. I’m even going to lean on the old cliche ‘like a Pixar movie’ because the characters and world deserve it. The series has always been a marker for what PlayStation exclusives can do with the power of a new console, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is upholding that tradition.
“Characters are colorful and expressive, the world is layered with textures and detailed whatever planet you’re on, and I often found myself stumbling on a collectible just because I was wandering around wanting to take in more of the scenery.”
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is available now on PS5.

Before the main awards show even kicks off, we’ve got a special pre-show that takes a look back at the past 50 years of gaming, featuring gaming luminaries such as award-winning game designer Brenda Romero and Doom co-creator John Romero, as well as EA founder Trip Hawkins.
And, to celebrate 50 years of gaming, alongside our usual fan-voted awards such as Best Storytelling, Best Studio, and Ultimate Game of the Year, there will also be two exclusive awards this year: Ultimate Game of All Time and Best Gaming Hardware of All Time. To help us celebrate this, you can expect to see a fair few special guests make an appearance throughout the show as well.
And if you’re keeping your eyes open for them, make sure you keep your ears open for the exclusive debut of the music of OlliOlli World, which will be played throughout the show. Just make sure you don’t have any skateboards nearby, we don’t want you to instinctively start trying to kickflip while we’re announcing awards… And the musical delights don’t end there, as we also have a special 50 years of games special musical performance from over 20 artists as well.
Voting has now closed for the awards, so that means you can only sit back and wait to see who will be taking home the Joysticks.
Be sure to head back to GamesRadar+ on Tuesday November 23, 1:30pm PST / 4.30pm EST / 9:30pm GMT to watch the Joysticks with us.
