It’s not uncommon to pick up an old game and be amazed by how poorly it holds up. It can also be crushing to find that the games you have such fond memories of… sort of suck nowadays. This was our fear when it came to Grand Theft Auto III, a game that’s celebrating its 10th birthday today, on Oct. 22, 2011. In order to make sure it still plays as well as we remember, Hollander Cooper, Henry Gilbert, Mikel Reparaz, and Charlie Barratt blew the dust off an old copy of the game, threw it in, and started doing some missions.
“Started” being the key word….
We actually ended up killing cops and having sex with prostitutes. We wanted, so badly, to just play the game as it was meant to be played, but after like four minutes we started typing in codes and slaughtering people. Happy birthday, Grand Theft Auto III!

]]>Call it whatever you want – immature, over-the-top, face-meltingly absurd – we’re damn close to calling Saints Row: The Third a Day 1 pick-up thanks to its cartoonish embracement of everything an open-world game should be mixed with all things naughty and juvenile. Click here to read Grimm’s recent preview.

]]>As usual, I play through the dungeon, and have Carolyn, Henry and Mike Grimm in tow for color commentary and no small amount of ridicule. Now that Ocarina of Time is handled, what other game would you like to see played through in a series of videos? We have some thoughts, but we’re always eager to appease you fine folks…
Aftereight videosand just as many hours, we’re finally entering the home stretch. Ocarina of Time’s closing moments are indeed some of the series’ best, with a climactic showdown between Link and Ganondorf, and then a truly awesome duel to the death with the latter’s final form. While I may bitch and moan about the platforming elements in this dungeon (they’re irrefutably awful), that last skirmish with Ganon still ranks among my favorite videogame moments of all time. I go intogreater detail in the video, but yeah, it’s amazing. Still the best final boss of any Zelda game, maybe of any Nintendo title.

]]>Shadows of the Damned represents something of a Japanese dream team; it plays like an amped-up Resident Evil 4 (courtesy of Shinji Mikami) but with all the weirdness and gratuitous violence of No More Heroes (that’d be Suda 51), PLUS an amazinglycatchy, atmosphericsoundtrack (by Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka). All these traits come together to form a game that plays exactly how you think it would if all these people came together… it’s pretty cool, I gotta say.
We’ll have a more thorough preview up next week that details the gameplay and goings-on of the first two acts, but until then, please to enjoy our five-minute fap!

]]>Get this straight, readers: Several of us in the office have played through Portal 2 several times already. I personally played through myself and watched others play through the game multiple times. Yet there’s still shit in Portal 2 that confounds me each and every time I encounter it! I guess what I’m saying is: We’re not dummies! Portal just requires a unique line of thinking that sort of defies traditional muscle memory, or whatever, and often feels altogether new each time you approach certain puzzles. Infinitely more so while trying to talk and convey information at the same time, you judgemental jerks.

Above: A highlight in the video above is Evan murdering Anthony with a door for no good reason
Obviously, I’m trying to justify why we’re playing like shit in the video above, but I’m also trying to express that you can rest easy watching us play through the beginning of Portal 2’s co-op since I can almost guarantee it will not taint your personal experience in any way. Can I go now?!
