]]>There are five different Robco Fun games that you can collect and install into that wonderful little wrist-mounted device in Fallout 4. All you need to do to enable them on your Pip-Boy is collect each game’s respective holotape. The discerning gamers amongst you may notice that each title bears a resemblance to a real-world classic (Donkey Kong, Missile Command and Space Invaders eat your hearts out), so you may even start playing these games and feel like a veteran straight away.

Until we know when exactly the update will go live, you might as well start filling out your mod shopping list. Bethesda enabled the Creation Kit for PS4 mods a few weeks ago and creators have already gotten to work; here are a few mods that might catch your fancy.

With this mod (opens in new tab) enabled, Preston Garvey will no longer load you down with multiple quests to help out settlements. Now he’ll politely wait for you to finish whatever Minutemen missions you already have before offering another.

No need to forage for all your hubflowers and brain fungus with this mod (opens in new tab) installed. You’ll be able to plant wild vegetation just like their domesticated cousins, as long as you have the crop in your Settlement inventory to start out with. It also adds a bunch of space-efficient planters and crafting recipes for Bobrov’s Best Moonshine and all manner of Gwinnett beers.

It gives you all the perks (opens in new tab).

This mod (opens in new tab) lets you place 10 times as much stuff in each of your settlements. Unfortunately, there’s one major catch: it only works with new games. The modder says Sony’s mod restrictions make retroactively increasing your settlement build budgets impossible.

This mod (opens in new tab) lets you wear two Brotherhood of Steel coats – a Vertibird pilot’s bomber jacket and Elder Maxson’s battle coat – over any other underarmor. Finally, you can rock the coolest trenchcoat in the Commonwealth without killing Maxson and making a sworn enemy of the Brotherhood.

]]>The post I made up a Smash Bros. clone with the folks behind Fallout, Dishonored, and Prey appeared first on Game News.
]]>Being essentially 10 years old, I asked every developer I interviewed at QuakeCon 2016 what kind of cool moves and outfits their respective characters would have in a theoretical Super Bethesda Bros. Again, this is all hypothetical, and I have no reason to believe Bethesda is working on a cross-franchise fighting game (but if it does end up happening I take full credit). All that said, these are the designs we came up with.

Special Attack: Harvey Smith, the co-creative director of Dishonored developer Arkane Studios, was tempted to go with the “creepy and fascinating” Possession ability for Corvo’s special attack. But since his defining hour in the original Dishonored was set against the Rat Plague, Smith had to go with Corvo’s equally disturbing Devouring Swarm power. That’s the one that makes dozens of rats emerge from the void and devour everything in their path, alive or dead. Maybe don’t let Corvo build up his special meter.
Alternate Outfit: “I guess Corvo’d probably have something more romantic, right”, Smith reasoned. “So he’s got his Royal Protector outfit, muddy boots and all that. But he probably also has something like a billowy pirate shirt, for the romance [novel] cover.” I think I ripped my bodice a bit just thinking about it.

Special Attack: In Dishonored 2 (opens in new tab), Emily has grown up to be just as deadly of an eldritch-powered killer as her proud father. But they’re not exactly alike. Emily’s powers reflect both her status as a ruler and the disturbing events of her childhood. One of her most powerful “gifts” from the Outsider (and Smith’s pick for Super Bethesda Bros. special attack) is Domino, which lets her chain the fates of several people together. Pop off a Domino, then KO one opponent and you KO them all!
Alternate Outfit: Emily would be a little bit more conservative than Corvo the romantic swashbuckler. She “probably has something that allows her to blend in more,” Smith said, “the brown riding jacket, or something that she takes out for fox hunts”.

Special Attack: Prey (opens in new tab)’s protagonist can turn into a coffee mug. He or she (you could play as either gender in SBB, just like Robin and Corrin in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS) can use the Mimic ability to transform into a bunch of other stuff, too, but the mug was the clear crowd favorite at QuakeCon’s extended Prey gameplay demo (opens in new tab). Lead designer Ricardo Bare insisted that the coffee mug form in particular would be Morgan’s special attack, despite it leaving you quite small and literally unarmed. Maybe you could tip over and spill your scalding hot contents on the other players?
Alternate Outfit: “That’s kind of both in one!” Bare exclaimed about the coffee mug. He got me there.

Special Attack: After I assured Doom (opens in new tab) director Marty Stratton that his character could have a weapon in this utterly derivative game we were making up, his response was immediate. “It would probably have to be something where he grabs the other player by the chest and pulls out the Super Shotgun and blows their head off. And a big fountain of blood comes out of the top of it.” So Super Bethesda Bros. is going for an M-Rating, I asked? “We’re Id, we don’t do anything lower!”
Alternate Outfit: “I would have to go with the classic bare midriff, no sleeves, leather gloves [Doomguy design from the original game],” Stratton said. Then we tossed around some ideas about why the Doomguy originally had an armor cutout over his tummy; Stratton said with a six-pack like that you pretty much have to, while I speculated that he was on his way to belly dance class when the demonic invasion broke out.

]]>The post Fallout 4 PS4 mod beta “close to ready” says Bethesda appeared first on Game News.
]]>ORIGINAL STORY: Fallout 4 (opens in new tab) players on PS4 are this close to getting in on all the modding fun (opens in new tab), but there are still a few issues keeping mods from running at 100 percent. Bethesda laid out (opens in new tab) some extra requirements for mod makers who want their creations to be featured in the upcoming PS4 closed beta, and they outline a system that still needs a few good tweaks.
For now, mods can only be up to 900 MB in size, custom sound files aren’t supported since PS4 uses a proprietary sound format, and textures from the PC version of the game are used (which can lead to memory and performance problems, since they’re not optimized for the platform). Xbox One had a similar issue with PC textures when it kicked off mod support, but Bethesda was able to resolve that issue within a few weeks. Bethesda says it’s working with Sony to rectify all of these problems in a future update.
According to Bethesda, the closed beta update for PS4 mods is “close to ready”. Make sure you sign up for beta access on Bethesda.net if you want to try it out early.

Formal mod support is already live on PC, where it offers a marketplace-style view of mods sorted by categories like “Homes”, “Characters”, and “Immersion” (the mod in the image up top is Vault-Tec Suits (opens in new tab)). Modders have to specifically declare their mods are compatible with consoles after uploading them via PC, but if it works out this will be by far the easiest access players of a major console game have ever had to the vibrant world of modding.
Bethesda didn’t say when it expects to take console mod support out of beta and distribute it to the hungry masses, but they usually move pretty quickly (assuming nothing goes catastrophically awry).

That may sound like a nightmare, but I had a ton of fun playing Fallout: New Vegas on “Hardcore Mode”, so I’m happy to see Bethesda take the idea even further. Foraging for supplies is a lot more exciting when clean water – not just a bundle of stimpaks – could be the difference between life and death.
If Survival Mode arrives on Friday, that should give you plenty of time to grit your teeth through the extra-hostile Wasteland before the Far Harbor DLC is released on May 19 (opens in new tab).

]]>You can really hear the passion in Strong’s voice as he sings of the simple pleasures that keep him going (hammers, hunting rifles, and lasers), like a super mutant version of “My Favorite Things”. And dang, he can really bust a move when he gets loose and limber! I feel bad for loading him down with all those broken lamps and boxes of Abraxo cleaner now.

]]>Speaking to GI.biz (opens in new tab) Bethesda exec producer Todd Howard has been talking about the nearly, maybe life of a Fallout movie. “I’ve taken a number of meetings [for movie pitches] over the years and nothing quite clicked where I felt, ‘Oh, that would be as good as the game'” he says.
However, that’s not to say it might never happen. “I don’t rule it out,” states Howard. “I would say we have a pretty high bar as far as what we would want it to be if it ever happened and nothing’s quite clicked. Even little things like, ‘What does the vault suit look like?’ – every little thing we obsess over so the game is the thing where it really exists.”
Perfecting the little details aside, there’s also the problem of effectively having two version of the world exist, thinks Howard: “If there had been a Fallout movie, you’d feel different about Fallout when we’d announced Fallout 4, and one of them wouldn’t be quite right and you wouldn’t want that to be the game, where the movie takes it in another direction.”

Unfortunately, this isn’t the update that will bring mod support to consoles. Bethesda plans to roll that out later, between the Automatron and Wasteland Workshop packs. But at least you’ll be able to spruce up your settlements with new workshop items like meat totems and meat carts, which should make the local Super Mutant population very happy and freak the hell out of everybody else.
Update 1.4 also introduces the usual assortment of bug fixes, like objects placed in water not properly floating after saving and reloading. Bethesda patch notes (opens in new tab) are always the best.

]]>If your Sanctuary Hills needs some Super Mutant ‘clutter’ such as meat totems, meat bags or a meat cart then this is the perfect update. Plus, who needs Ikea – Apokalipsk? – when you can get Raider clutter, abstract and portrait paintings, a variety of new signs and even more metal and wood door options. Mmm, doors. You can see the full list of bug fixes here (opens in new tab).
Secondly, it also appears that we’re getting closer to mod support on consoles. In an interview with Game Informer (opens in new tab) creative director Todd Howard has outlined the teams release aims. “Our goal [for mod release] is between the first two DLCs. It’ll go up at that time on PC,” he said. “In April. All of that stuff will go up on PC. People are beta testing it. There’ll be a lag on consoles. We want to get it up on PC and have it work. It’ll probably be a good month before it hits Xbox One, and another month for PlayStation 4.” Bring on the ridiculous weapon and superhero mods.
