The post Sex Education season 4: Everything we know about the Netflix shows return appeared first on Game News.
]]>We’ve done our best to predict when the new episodes might arrive on Netflix, for starters, as well as when a trailer for the new season might drop. We’re also keeping you up to date with all the confirmed casting information so far, and we’ve given you a recap of season 3 and theorized about what could be on the cards for the students of Moordale Secondary in the series’ fourth outing. So, for all that and more, keep scrolling to discover everything we know so far about Sex Education season 4.

Sex Education was renewed for season 4 in September 2021 and filming is set to begin sometime in summer 2022. Season 3 started filming in September 2020 and was released a year later, so it seems likely that season 4 will premiere next summer. Keep your eyes peeled for further updates in that department.

Sex Education season 3 was released in September 2021 and Netflix released the first full-length trailer two weeks before it hit the streamer. If season 4 follows the same time frame, we’ve got quite a while to wait before we get our first taste of the next installment of the show.

No casting information for Sex Education season 4 has been confirmed yet, but we know that Simone Ashley is definitely not returning as Olivia – Ashley joined the cast of Bridgerton for the show’s second season as leading lady Kate Sharma, and she has since confirmed that she’s swapped modern-day high school for Regency high society once and for all.
Patricia Allison, who plays Ola, has also confirmed she “won’t be joining the team” for the new season, while Tanya Reynolds, who plays Ola’s love interest Lily, is also exiting the show. “I’m not [returning], actually, which is sad, very sad,” Reynolds told Radio Times (opens in new tab). “It’s just the natural progression of these shows – when you have such big ensemble casts and so many characters, I think you have to let a few older characters go to make way for newer ones, which is absolutely the right thing, the way it should happen.”
Ashley isn’t the only Sex Education cast member with a lot on her plate – Ncuti Gatwa, who plays Otis’ best friend Eric, was recently cast as the Doctor in Doctor Who, while Emma Mackey, who plays Maeve, has roles in upcoming movies including Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. While nothing has been said about whether or not Gatwa or Mackey are returning, it’s possible that they may have smaller roles in the next season to account for their busier schedules.
As for who else we predict might be returning, we’re pretty sure we haven’t seen the last of the Milburns, AKA Otis, played by Asa Butterfield, and his sex therapist mother Jean, played by Gillian Anderson. There are also series regulars and Otis’ fellow students Connor Swindells (Adam), Aimee Lou Wood (Aimee), Kedar Williams-Stirling (Jackson), and Mimi Keene (Ruby).

Warning: Sex Education season 3 spoilers ahead.
Sex Education season 3 concluded another chapter in Otis and Maeve’s will-they-won’t-they relationship – the season finale ends with the pair finally getting together before promptly parting ways, as Maeve heads off to the US for a study program over the summer. Season 4, then, will explore whether distance has made either of their hearts grow fonder.
Elsewhere in the season 3 finale, Eric and Adam break up, as Eric is struggling to be in a relationship with someone who isn’t comfortable with who they are. Plus, Jean gives birth and recovers from surgery after suffering a hemorrhage during labor. She also receives the results of the baby’s paternity test, so it’s likely that we’ll see the fall-out of that result in season 4.
And, in a move that will probably be the biggest plot point of the new season, the students of Moordale Secondary find out that their school is being sold to developers and are told that they need to find alternative arrangements to finish their education. According to The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab), the new season “will feature a mix of old and new faces as Sex Education moves on from the shuttered Moordale High in favor of a new school” and we can expect a “creative reset”.

]]>The post Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Everything we know so far about the new adventures appeared first on Game News.
]]>Since the initial reveal, we’ve seen more of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starters, the introduction of new Legendaries, and part of the Gen 9 Pokedex, including the much-admired pig critter Lechonk, new professors. We also got confirmation that the latest entry will support four-player multiplayer, so there are plenty of reasons to get hyped about new Pokemon games.
We’ve even finally gotten an official November release date for what has easily become one of the most anticipated upcoming Switch games. If you’re looking forward to what looks set to be an exciting evolution for the series, read on below to find out everything we know so far about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
We were surprised in more ways than one when the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet reveal trailer landed. Not only do we get to go on a new adventure in the world of Pokemon, but we won’t even have to wait that long to experience it. Despite Legends: Arceus already launching this year, Nintendo has now confirmed that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are set to release on November 18, 2022.

As is tradition with the core games in the series, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will introduce us to three new Gen 9 starters we can choose between at the beginning of the adventure. And as we saw at the end of the trailer in a delightful picture surrounded by a golden frame, the three critters are all very adorable in their own way. The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starters include the Grass type cat Sprigatito, the Fire type croc Fuecoco, and the Water type duckling Quaxly.
The official website (opens in new tab) for the games also reveals little tidbits about their characteristics. The little croc, Feucoco, for example, is said to be laid back and does things at its own pace, while the grass kitty is capricious and the little duckling is earnest and tidy. Now the only question is: Which will you choose?

Pokemon Sword and Shield gave us the chance to run around certain wild areas, which was then expanded upon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The latter release had several big open areas across a world map to explore, but it still wasn’t truly open-world. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet looks set to take this an evolutionary step further with an open world that features towns that “blend seamlessly into the wilderness with no borders”. We’ll once again be able to see Pokemon out in the wild, with the freedom to explore this new region in the skies, seas, streets, and forests. The trailer showed off various locales that we can’t wait to see for ourselves.
The second trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet confirmed that the adventure will allow up to four players to explore the world together, along with returning features such as a trading and battling against your pals. We got a little taste of this in Pokemon Sword and Shield where you can traverse around the wild areas with a pal. Being able to explore the open-world of Scarlet and Violet with fellow trainers certainly sounds magical.

The latest trailer gave us our first look at the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Legendaries that will be featured in the new adventure. The impressive-looking Koraidon is the Legendary Pokemon of Pokemon Scarlet, while the equally eye-catching Miraidon will be the Legendary Pokemon in Violet. Fittingly, they both sport the colors of their respective versions. While there’s a lot of mystery surrounding these two Pokemon, they’re naturally said to have power that surpasses those of other critters.

During our adventures in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, we’ll be meeting a new Pokemon trainer friend by the name of Nemona. We get to see a glimpse of this fresh face in the most recent trailer, and the official site says this new pal of ours has a “sunny and energetic disposition” with a fondness for Pokemon battles. As an experienced trainer, Nemona will act as a our guide.

Different versions are another returning tradition for the series, and historically they will offer different Pokemon and legendaries. Alongside revealing the two new Legendary Pokemon that will be in either version, Game Freak has also confirmed some other differences between Scarlet and Violet.
For one, your player character will be sporting a different kind of outfit depending on the version you choose. Two new professors will also be introduced in the upcoming Pokemon adventure, and who you’ll meet will depend on the version you’ve chosen.

Trainers who choose Pokemon Scarlet will meet Professor Sada (left), while those who pick up Pokemon Violet will instead encounter Professor Turo (right). According to the official website for the game, each professor is said to be carrying out research into “certain lore passed down” in the new region. How mysterious.

In the past, we’ve seen how real-world locations have served as inspiration for regions in the series. The Galar region, for example, is based on the UK, while the Kalos region in Pokemon X and Y is inspired by France. We’ve yet to learn officially where Scarlet and Violet are set, but there’s a lot of interesting details fans have been picking up on in the trailer that could hint towards it being based on Spain. In one Twitter thread by Antonio Demico, the architecture and names of the starters are highlighted among other details.

]]>The post Skull and Bones: release date, gameplay reveal, and more appeared first on Game News.
]]>This is the most significant sign of a pulse since 2020 for the Ubisoft title, which popped up in 2017 with the promise of players sailing the seven seas and indulging in some salty naval combat, before disappearing below the waves for half a decade. After its reveal, Ubisoft let press members go hands-on with it back in 2018, but after that things started shifting around quite a bit over at the studio. In a 2020 update, we heard the game had a new vision and was aiming for a 2022 release date.
Now, however, the tides have turned, and we’ve got a ton of new information about the mysterious and highly anticipated Skull and Bones. We’ve seen gameplay, spoken to the game director, and had a hands-off preview, and we can confidently say we’ve got all the information you’re looking for about Skull and Bones. Read on for more.
Before we had a release date, we had rumors. It was revealed during a Ubisoft financial update with investors that the game would be due out sometime in the next year or so. “Skull and Bones will now be released in 2022-23,” it said in its earnings report – but for a while, there was no more information regarding a more specific release window.
Then, a Skull and Bones release date was leaked by a Twitter account just a few days before the worldwide reveal event, and it turns out this leak, in particular, was correct. Skull and Bones is set to release on November 8, 2022. Yes, that is one day before the highly anticipated God of War Ragnarok, so it’ll be interesting to see how both games fare.
The latest trailer dropped on the same day as the worldwide gameplay reveal, and it will pull you in from the moment it starts. Promising to let you “chart a new course”, the trailer follows an unnamed character as they decide to try out the pirate life, become marooned on an island, and build their own ship to sail safely out of there. It cuts to other pirates in various stages of cool, swashbuckling garb before showing off some epic naval combat.

Back before we had a Skull and Bones release date or any idea what the gameplay looked like, we had the promise of the Insider Program, which was announced back in March 2022. After the July reveal event, we have a few more details on that what the program will entail.
We are kicking off our Insider Program, a unique opportunity for a selected few to test early versions of Skull and Bones & share feedback. Apply now if you think you have what it takes!March 9, 2022
See more
According to Ubisoft, the Insider Program is an “ongoing live testing initiative for which we’re inviting carefully selected players to play an early version of our game in real conditions before anyone else. Meaning for the very first time, members of our Insider Program get to play Skull and Bones and get a sneak peek at the work our development team has been doing behind the scenes.” According to the studio, the testing team will remain “relatively small” but if you’re interested you can sign up for the Skull and Bones Insider Program here (opens in new tab).

We know that Skull and Bones will focus heavily on naval combat thanks to its roots lying in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. While working on our five key Skull and Bones questions answered, we spoke with game director Ryan Barnard, who gave us even more details beyond the July gameplay reveal.
“The team developed their expertise in Naval Combat through their co-development work so we decided to capitalize on that to create a totally new world – the world of Skull and Bones,” Barnard says game director Ryan Barnard. “Since I joined, my focus has been about taking the creative vision to life.” His focus has been on adding “depth to the naval combat,” the progression system, enemy factions, and crafting.
Skull and Bones was initially billed as a game that would be made up of two main pillars: a single-player campaign where you play a fully customizable pirate and multiplayer 5v5 tactical naval combat. According to Barnard, the current iteration of Skull and Bones is not a “classic narrative-driven game” but a live game that Ubisoft is committed to working on far into the future. So, should you play it solo? “We want players to have advantages when they group up and pirate together. You can definitely play alone, but part of the risk in our world is that, if you are the lone wolf, you could potentially become prey for other players,” Barnard says.
Solo play will include leveling up your ship, taking on pirate emissions, and battling on the high seas. It seems like ship customization will be very broad, so expect to see a variety of different vessels on the horizon.
The co-director of the game, Antoine Henry, left Ubisoft after 15 years in January 2022, which many worried had to do with Skull and Bones’ development issues. In July 2021 a report from Kotaku (opens in new tab) offered insight into issues behind the scenes that have caused the development process to drag on so long.
The article, which included input from current and former developers on Skull and Bones, reveals constant changes to the game’s direction – like switching between naval combat and survival as the core concepts – and culture clashes on the development team. Three different sources put the cost of Skull and Bones at more than $120 million, and it’s not even finished yet.
In response, Ubisoft put out a statement updating Kotaku on the game’s progress and recent Alpha production milestone.
“The Skull and Bones team are proud of the work they’ve accomplished on the project since their last update with production just passing Alpha, and are excited to share more details when the time is right. That being said, any unfounded speculation about the game or decisions being made only works to demoralize the team who are working very hard to develop an ambitious new franchise that lives up to the expectations of our players.
Over the past year, we’ve made significant changes to our policies and processes to create a safe and more inclusive workplace and empower our teams to create games that reflect the diversity of the world we live in.”
During the Ubisoft 2020-21 earnings call, chief financial officer Frédérick Duguet had this to say about the game.
“We strongly believe in the team’s creative vision and they have been given an increasingly ambitious mandate for the game,”
“Production led by Singapore has been advancing well over the past 12 months and the promise is better than ever. The additional time will allow the team to fully deliver on its vision.”

There are loads of ways to customise your ship in Skull and Bones, and it seems that different set-ups will be useful for different scenarios. We see the ability to change sails, weapon set-ups, and figureheads in the demo, but expect there to be loads more options in the final game.
You’ll need to adapt because the conditions of the game will change according to the predictions of a fortune teller. Yes. You’re given an outlook for each session and will have to change your play accordingly – so, for example, high winds mean that there are more merchant ships to plunder, but greater competition for them. Not sure how that correlates, but it’s all in the demo. She’ll also advise on weather and trade routes too.
It’s worth noting that you can also hop off your ship and look around your own private island. Expect there to be plenty of distractions here too.

]]>The post Left 4 Dead 3: Rumours and everything wed like to see appeared first on Game News.
]]>The last time Valve addressed the rumors was in 2020, where the company said that it isn’t developing a new Left 4 Dead game. So where does that leave us? Sadly, it leaves us with uncorroborated Left 4 Dead 3 leaks and rumors, and with a lengthy new Left 4 Dead wishlist. Still, if you want to get caught up on all the information that’s out there, you’ll find details on every whisper we’ve heard over the years about Left 4 Dead 3.

There have been a number of rumors pertaining to Left 4 Dead 3’s development, with many credible sources teasing its existence. While Valve addressed some of the rumors, there have been some notable rumors over the years.
The first interesting tidbit arrived in 2014 thanks to an anonymous source posting a singular image to Neogaf (opens in new tab)with the garbled caption “jU$st fel acros myd esk, mbight b a thin.g”.
The image is a screenshot of an open Powerpoint presentation, seemingly an internal, confidential Valve document that showcases levels from Left 4 Dead 2 enhanced and rebuilt in Valve’s Source 2.0 engine. The main event appears to be the Plantation mission, the final stakeout in the Swamp Fever campaign. With no official word on the matter, we can’t be sure that this came from Valve, but given how well-made it looks, it must have been the work of some incredibly talented modders and developers if not.

If we flash-forwards to 2016 we can then address the wonderful investigative sleuthing of Tyler McVicker of Valve News Network, who collected a number of leaks from the Steam VR Performance Tool (opens in new tab), which appeared to blow Valve’s entire future development plans wide open via a number of Source 2 files. As well as a “retired engineer” character found in the Left 4 Dead 3 directory, a new Special Infected is also referenced, known as The Nocturnal, whose abilities may have been tied to a day/night cycle, one of the features of the new engine. It’s worth checking out this run-through of the leaked content on the ValveTime website (opens in new tab) if you’d like to know more, which includes a potential Left 4 Dead test map, possibly bound for VR, and containing strings referencing a Moroccan lantern.
In what appears to be a gaffe on the side of Valve, references to the game (and Half Life 3, for Pete’s sake!) were found in the file directories, which led many to assume that the game was in development. Later that year, a tutorial posted to Valve’s official developer community website contained an image that referenced a ‘l4d3’ folder before it was swiftly replaced, too. Later in 2017, user Barnz posted a discussion thread to the ValveTime forum (opens in new tab) pointing to the portfolio website of one Moby Francke (opens in new tab), an ex-Valve artist who appears to have drafted up some concept characters for a potential Left 4 Dead 3. The two characters are armed to the teeth and look fit for fighting zombies. At that time it was surmised that the previously leaked VR files matched the actual textures for the 3D models of these characters, further turning the rumor mill.

Earlier this year in April 2019 we saw perhaps the most credible leak yet in a series of woefully boring screenshots (opens in new tab) of a walled middle-eastern city. These were once more provided by Valve News Network host Tyler McVicker and despite lacking confirmation, it certainly lines up with the conceptualized character designs. The problem is that at this point, it looks like the project was probably canned, as the images are from an old 2013 build of the game. At this point, it’s probably not worth getting your hopes up about Left 4 Dead 3.
Still, we can’t help but imagine just what a Left 4 Dead 3 would be like. Below, we’ve put together a wishlist for features we’d love to see as we continue to dream about one day seeing a sequel.

One of the Left 4 Dead series’ best features are the interesting and diverse cast of characters available to players. Though their backstories have previously been explored via easter eggs, external media and back and forth voice lines, characters like Louis and Bill have still become beloved in the eyes of fans, even appearing in other titles.
Given the time since the previous game, Valve will have no doubt had time to dream up an even more unlikely team of protagonists from all corners of the globe, not just America. The avenues for exploration of their moral code via in-game side missions, environmental storytelling and more have opened up significantly since the days of Left 4 Dead 2, and the concept introduced in The Sacrifice of losing a player as part of the narrative and making genuine choices mid-gameplay could certainly be expanded in the next game.

As well as an even more culturally diverse cast, it’d be great to see the game spread it’s wings from North America and travel to other continents. Whilst Valve risk muddying the waters by making the campaign an international journey, perhaps a change of scene would be good for exploring different biomes and their related infected (see the clowns at the carnival and the context-specific swamp zombies.)
Even if it was set in Europe, or as the leaks suggest, the Middle-East, it’d be a fascinating new lens to present the unique zombie apocalypse that Valve has crafted. We already know that iconic maps can come from humble beginnings like No Mercy’s claustrophobic hospital, so by taking a step back, perhaps we could be in for some even more death-defying set pieces.

As referenced in the leaks, The Nocturnal is evidence that Valve already had plans for more special infected beyond the already stacked roster of Jockeys, Tanks, Spitters and the like. It’s worth noting that zombie dog sound files have been found as cut content from the game, and more notably The Screamer was cut from the game, a special zombie that alerts the horde to its position by yelling. With enhanced logic potential and increased player-infected interaction, the gate is open for swathes of new enemy types that learn from years of iteration and play mind games with the survivors rather than being purely physical like the Tank or Hunter.

Given Valve’s focus on VR with SteamVR, the HTC Vive and now the Valve Index, it’d make sense to see Left 4 Dead 3 offer some kind of VR support. Whether that means cross-play with PC players or a specific game mode for designated VR players, it’d be fascinating (if not nauseating) to zip around the map as a hunter, scaling buildings and leaping through the air to land on prey. It’s certainly possible to load up a VR player with the abilities of the infected, and given Valve’s rumored work on a Half Life 2 VR release, perhaps the tricky design issues of implementing shooter gameplay into VR might have been remedied by the point of its release, allowing VR players to exist in an asymmetrical map and contend with one another. It would certainly be an ambitious concept to pull off, but well worth it if it works.

Left 4 Dead’s AI director is by far and away the most impressive and ambitious part of the zombie shooter’s formula, a dynamic means to control the pacing and difficulty of each round of survival, as the players strive to get to the safe room and proceed to the next map. Even though the A.I. is still fairly unmatched as far as online asymmetrical co-op multiplayer goes, the mind boggles as to what Valve could do with the directorial systems in-game given enhancements in machine learning since the previous game’s release.
Horde and special infected management as well as the spawning of Tanks and Witches could be even more clever and adrenaline-pumping than before. Beyond the infected, the director is also in control of items, map events like car alarms and rain and music, which is the main means to figure out if you’re about to get swarmed or not. Technically, this is the most tricky part to work on but if done correctly, even slight improvements upon Left 4 Dead 2’s already stunning A.I. base would be a welcome shock to the system for co-op shooter fans.

]]>The post Fable 4: Everything we know so far about the new Fable game appeared first on Game News.
]]>Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer pointed to the “pedigree of the team” at Playground, who has opened a second studio to support the development of this new action-RPG. It’s been almost two years since the new Fable game was first shown, and we’ve heard little on it ever since. Still, you’ll want to keep reading to find everything we know so far about Fable 4.
Swords, magic, fairies, Albion glimmering in the distance – all the Fable ingredients seem to be in order so far. The voiceover is familiar too, it just screams Royal Shakespeare company.
“The world is filled with stories of legendary heroes and treacherous villains. Of fantastical creatures and wondrous places. Where nature and magic live in perfect harmony. Not all stories have happy endings! But yours has yet to be written.”

Since the new Fable adventure is being developed over at Playground Games, it makes perfect sense that it will be created using the same game engine as the studio’s other titles. A Turn10 job listing that surfaced back in 2021 confirmed that the Forzatech engine is powering three “AAA titles in development across two beloved franchises” and included the mention of “enriching the toolset to support an open world action RPG – Fable”.

Fans will be pleased to hear that the next Fable will follow the cues set out by previous games in the main series, with Fable 4 likely set to be another open-world action RPG focused on story and characters.
“To put the Fable franchise – and give it a completely fresh start – in the hands of one of the greatest game developers in the world, and also right there in England with Playground Games, is sort of a dream come true,” said Aaron Greenberg, general manager of Xbox Games Marketing at Microsoft, after the initial reveal.
“We’re letting them get a fresh start with the franchise and really you can see it’s still got the classic British humor that’s really true to the franchise, it’s obviously going to be a role-playing game, we’ve got the best folks in the industry working on it. Today was just the reveal of the game, and we’re excited to officially say Fable’s coming, and we’ll share more when we’re ready.”
Interestingly, though, a rumor did surface back in 2020 that suggested Fable 4 may not be the new RPG entry we were hoping for, but rather an MMO set “in the world of Fable”. The news came courtesy of French journalist @CronoTK (opens in new tab) on Twitter, who accurately predicted the entire Xbox Games Showcase lineup ahead of the stream.

Despite the official announcement, there was no release date – or even window – given for Fable during the July 2020 Xbox Games Showcase. Since then, we haven’t anything in the form of an update on when we can expect to see that adventure, so it’s probably going to be a while before we can visit Albion.

Now here’s something we’re definitely sure of. You’re never going to play Fable 4 on PS5. The IP is owned by Microsoft, and because of that you can put all your money on the fact it’ll be exclusive to Xbox Series X/S and PC when it does eventually arrive.

An even earlier Fable 4 leak back in 2019 also seemingly revealed that a massive chunk of the gameplay, and core themes, may have changed, including that the game is likely set across multiple planets, and could even involve time travel.
Apparently Albion has been destroyed by an asteroid that got wished into existence by a Mad King who took control of the Tattered Spire, the Will-fuelled tower from Fable 2 that granted the person who controlled it one wish once it was built. So now it’s down to you to use time travel to save it… we think.
Theresa and the Guild are hiding away on another planet that you can access via a demon door, but if you want you can ignore the entirety of the main quest and never become a hero at all. Players can also build their own towns in the completely open world, which ties into the main quest (unsurprising for anyone who’s played any Fable games), plus the character creator is majorly in depth. For those who were miffed about the guns in Fable 3 and 2, you can rest assured that there are zero guns in Fable 4. Oh yeah, and there’s finally multiplayer!
Of course, none of this is confirmed as of yet, so take everything with a pinch of salt for the time being.
KA-KAW

Fable is reportedly coming back on Xbox and fans are excited: “Chickens will be kicked”

Seeing as the original team behind Fable is no more, it’s understandable that the folks behind the original series had some concerns about a sequel being made by an entirely new team.
“I have slightly mixed feelings,” said Fable co-creator Simon Carter, in an interview with Eurogamer back in 2017 (opens in new tab). “On the one hand, it’s great for the UK games industry, and very pleasing that Fable isn’t dead; indeed, it will be lovely to play one as a punter, without coming out in hives. On the other, it is a little curious to get rid of the team that is uniquely expert in making Fable, and then try and make Fable. Fable is a weird game, and a tough one to deconstruct for a new team. That said, the team in question is very talented, and I’m sure they’ll do a fantastic job.”
Until we see some gameplay, we’ll just be here, waiting to see the chickens and the taverns, and making a Fable 4 wishlist of all the things we’d love to see.

Although combat has been great fun in previous Fable games, the next entry in the series could do well to make things a little more grand, both on the large and small scale. Firstly, make some enemies have more emphasis; slow things down at times and make the build up to major fights feel more weighty. It’ll keep fights from feeling mundane over time, and ensure that your decisions really matter when it comes to the bigger characters.
Of course, that could extend to the scale of battles too. Rather than making you juggle between a half dozen enemies at a time, why not make the occasional battle look like a deleted scene from Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones? It would play into the fantasy adventure thing a little more, and keep your play style on its toes.
And while they’re there, the development team could also add in a little more weapon variety. The emphasis has always been on swords and bows, but melee could do with some attention in Fable 4. Give us staffs or spears, or other new weapon types to hit bad guys with, please.

This should go without saying, but although previous Fable dogs have been very good boys, it would be better for them to have a little more purpose to the actual gameplay. In Fable 2, he would dig up treasures and help you in battle, with more tricks available if you found the right books. He would also change appearance depending on your morality alignment. In Fable 3, however, he became a smaller part of your journey through Albion. You could pet him, play fetch or discipline him, and occasionally he would find you treasures.
Having the dog play a larger role in your journey – along the lines of Fable 2’s faithful canine, or Dogmeat from Fallout 4 – would make it feel like a more integral part of the gameplay, rather than just a cute face to greet you every time you start up the game. Although, saying that, that’s okay too.

Original Fable creator, Peter Molyneaux, famously always had grand visions of what Fable’s morality system could be, but in reality, the gameplay never quite lived up to expectations or promises. Hopefully with the power of Xbox One X and PC, we could see the morality system – and overall decision making – get a decent overhaul for Fable 4.
It would also help if your clothing choices weren’t just cosmetic either. Yes, your morality changed your appearance, especially in terms of skin, but your clothes had no affect on your character’s attributes or play style. Maybe in Fable 4 they could.

The list of voice actors on board for Fable 3 was a dazzling array of talent, from Stephen Fry and Ben Kingsley to Sean Pertwee and Michael Fassbender and even Simon Pegg, John Cleese and Zoe Wanamaker, the voice talent in the game was brilliant. Hearing well-known voices in your game was a huge boon for Fable 3, and if Fable 4 could have a similarly star-studded cast, we wouldn’t mind at all.

Ah, RSI. An occupational hazard way back in Fable 2 (opens in new tab) and Fable 3 (opens in new tab) thanks to those job-related minigames that put your thumb to the test, and we’re 97% certain that were they to reappear in Fable 4 that muscle memory would reawaken from its slumber. Each activity requires you to stab various buttons in a certain order (duh), but with each promotion the difficulty increases – mainly by making the button prompts zip across the screen much, much faster. There is the chance to earn some serious gold and when you get really good at it you sort of go into a daze where your fingers act independently, waking up from the stupor with a sack of gold by your feet. Or is that just me?

Although it’s easy to go a little over the top – we’re looking at you Saints’ Row – there’s a wonderful place that lies between that and being very boring indeed. And that’s where Fable has always sat, embracing the silliness, the occasional black humour and always, always individually quirkiness. If PlayGround Games, or whoever is making Fable 4, can channel that ethos and charm, it’ll help the series continue to stand out from the other RPGs out there.

]]>Insomniac is hard at work on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PS5 right now, which has a 2023 release date. When that’s done, the studio will start gearing up for the release of Marvel’s Wolverine and hopefully show us some more of it in action – which is a kind way of us telling you that you shouldn’t expect to see more of the game during E3 2022. Given how far off this PS5 exclusive is from being finished, there’s only a few details out there right now. Thankfully, we’ve rounded up everything we know so far about Marvel’s Wolverine for you below.
The Marvel’s Wolverine reveal trailer is 53 seconds of pure joy. It opens up in the aftermath of a barroom brawl, the room littered with blood and bodies as our favorite adamantium-clawed Mutant enjoys a short. That bar, our friends over at Newsarama have surmised, is the Princess Bar – AKA Logan’s home away from home on the island of Madripoor, which you may also have spotted in Episode 3 of Falcon and The Winter Soldier. A brawler pulls a knife, Logan pops his claws, fade to black – let the wait for another look at the game in action begin!
Marvel’s Wolverine has no firm release date or window. But if we’re expectation-setting here, you should expect a lengthy wait. Insomniac currently has its hands full with one team working on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and another onn Marvel’s Wolverine, with the former targeting a 2023 release window. Ryan Schneider, head of franchise strategy at Insomniac, has even noted (opens in new tab) that the game is “very early in development”. While Marvel’s Wolverine could release in a similar timeframe to Spider-Man 2, there’s a good chance that it’ll land sometime after, especially as Insomniac wants to deliver an “emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay”.
Marvel’s Wolverine is being developed by Insomniac Games, the developers behind Marvel’s Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The studio has grown tremendously since it was acquired by Sony and integrated into the PlayStation Studios portfolio, giving it the resources to produce multiple ambitious games all at once. Development will be led by creative director Brian Horton and game director Cameron Christian, who most recently spearheaded the creative team for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Logan is with safe hands, is what we’re saying.

The presence of The Princess Bar in the reveal trailer at the very least signals that Logan won’t be stuck at the Xavier Institute. If anything, teasing the island of Madripoor this early on could signal that Marvel’s Wolverine will be a globe-trotting adventure. That’s speculation for now, but it’s worth pointing out the rumors that Marvel’s Wolverine could be set as part of a broader universe that encompasses the Insomniac Spider-Man games. While Ryan Schneider, head of franchise strategy at Insomniac, explained that this was a “standalone game” he does drop this tease: “Being able to build a new, original universe with Spider-Man and now Wolverine is such an honor for so many of us at Insomniac Games.”
The Marvel’s Wolverine trailer does make a point of explaining that the images we are seeing are “not actual gameplay” but that isn’t to say we don’t have any idea of how it’s going to play. Insomniac is known for its slick, kinetic, third-person action-adventure games – Sunset Overdrive, Ratchet & Clank, Spider-Man are proof of that. Insomniac wouldn’t say either way, but Ryan Schneider, head of franchise strategy, did say the following: “one of the key elements that drew us to him is surprisingly not that different from Spider-Man: Both heroes feel deeply compelled to defend people who are less able to do so”, before adding, “In the vein of our Spider-Man games, our goal here is to not only respect the DNA of what makes the character so popular, but also look for opportunities to make it feel fresh and truly reflect the Insomniac spirit.”
Insomniac is yet to confirm who we’ll be fighting, but you have to believe it’ll be a selection of the best Wolverine villains.

]]>The post Bully 2: Everything we know about the rumored sequel appeared first on Game News.
]]>So, what would a new Bully game look like in the modern era? After looking at all of the leaks surrounding the cancelled Bully 2, the rumors, and after compiling our own wishlist, below you’ll find everything you need to know – and everything we’d like to see – should Bully 2 ever become a reality.

The first allusion to Bully 2 was in 2009 when Bully composer Shawn Lee told The Gaming Liberty that he was set to work on it in an interview. The page is now archived but you can check it out here (opens in new tab) thanks to the Wayback Machine. “Yes. It looks like I will be doing the soundtrack for Bully 2 in the not so distant future….” was the quote, which as you can expect set the Bully fandom ablaze.
The fire was then stoked by interviews with Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser, who told Gamasutra (quoted in an archived CVG article (opens in new tab) here) that the property is one that Rockstar adores and “might come back to in the future” following the development of Max Payne 3, which launched back in 2012.

After a long period of silence, there was a concept art leak in mid-2017, easily the most substantial and believable bit of Bully 2 yet. Rockstar didn’t comment on the widely reported leak, which was posted onto Imgur (opens in new tab) and Twitter by Bully2Info (opens in new tab).
It shows a number of characters that look ripped straight out of Bully’s universe, including your typical dork, a veteran survivalist based on Jack Torrance from The Shining, goths, clowns, moonshine-drinking moms and dodgy-looking tennis players. The concept art also showcased a pocket of rural American suburbia, with leaks suggesting a change in location for the sequel. A collection of as of yet unsubstantiated rumors can be found on the /R/Bully 2 Reddit (opens in new tab), where it is claimed the sequel was going to have Jimmy living with his stepfather after the events of the first game, visiting a summer camp and dealing with step-siblings. It is not clear whether the project was cancelled or if it’s still in development now.

Alas, these rumours did not come to fruition in 2020 as suggested, but they are worth mentioning with regards to how much the community cares for the idea of Bully 2.
In Red Dead Redemption 2 (opens in new tab), released in 2018, for example, one of the game’s more involved side quests rewards the player with the Calloway Revolver which has Canis Canem Edit engraved on the side (Bully’s official title in the UK). The GTA Online Casino (opens in new tab) arrived in the same summer, adding a painting into the game also titled Canis Canem Edit (opens in new tab). The painting depicts the animals on the Bullworth Academy crest, and it was created by a fictional artist named Matthew Morse, suggesting a Morse code signal hidden in the painting.
From there, internet “insiders” claimed that Bully 2 was coming in 2020 with virtually nothing to go on besides these hardly subtle nods and winks to the first game from its developer, Rockstar. Two years have since passed with little else beyond speculation about the existence of Bully 2, and with Rockstar now supporting GTA 5’s arrival on PS5, we suspect any word, good or bad, is a ways away.

According to leaker Tom Henderson, a sequel to Bully, Rockstar’s slightly more PG-13 take on the GTA formula, “was expected as a potential surprise reveal” at the Game Awards 2021. Henderson claims that sources had “been shown some material alluding to a reveal soon,” including a game in a playable state, but that “information is a bit blurry at the moment.”

Since Bully, we’ve had GTA 4 (opens in new tab) and GTA 5 (opens in new tab), LA Noire (opens in new tab), two Red Dead Redemption games and even Max Payne 3. There’s a lot to learn from here, and many parts of the tried and tested open-world formula that has since been iterated upon that could work really well within the world of Bully. The most obvious one is Red Dead Redemption 2’s chatter systems, where you can walk back or escalate conflict at the tap of a button, or simply greet every NPC on the map. This was revolutionary for open-world games and would work perhaps even better within a setting like Bully, where antagonism is the name of the game. The original game had something similar to this where you could humiliate enemies or calm them down, but it was fairly rigid. The strides taken since the game’s initial release could make for a new ambient dialogue system that really elevates the interactivity and immersion.

The map in Bully was really ambitious for the time, with multiple interconnected estates and sections of town which Jimmy was able to explore, from the Carnival to the Academy, and even an Asylum.
Yet ever since, Rockstar’s map’s have ballooned in size and achieved worlds of remarkable scope, always upping the ante with vast biomes and entire cities simulated in real-time. If we believe the leaks that point to a rural American setting, that would be a nice disconnect from the claustrophobia of Bullworth which dominated the original game. Perhaps if time has moved on there will be a full bustling college campus to orbit around, albeit with surrounding suburbia, student housing, shops and nightlife to explore. Wouldn’t it be great to see Bully 2 set in the UK though?!

We just don’t know when the game (if it exists) will be set right now, but given that Bully occurred during the 90s to early aughts, the game might transport us to a world closer to ours right now, perhaps with an older Jimmy or a completely new protagonist who has to deal with new subcultures and factions. Sure, the Bullies, Preppies, Greasers, Nerds, Jocks and Townies were well-done and interesting, but they were very old-school. There is so much potential for new cliques now. Emos, Goths, Scene Kids, Skaters, Hipsters, even Influencers and modern social media and YouTube/Twitch celebrities might get a look in. With Rockstar’s writing style, no doubt many teenagers are going to be lampooned if this game sees the light of day.

Jimmy Hopkins is an interesting character… despite what many may expect, he’s not really your typical bully. He has some sort of moral code, and only really doles out the beatings to those who deserve it. In fact, over the course of the game, he comes to defend many and uproot the dangerous behavior of the cliques, even if that does make him fall foul of the staff at Bullworth. His hero’s journey is kind of over by the end of the game, and he’s not just a barefaced bully anymore. Perhaps Rockstar could step in and replace him to offer another lens on the teenage experience. They’ve proved they can nail multiple protagonists with Grand Theft Auto 5, so perhaps we’ll see teenagers at different stages of social degeneracy available to the player. One leak mentioned step-siblings, so perhaps that is where Rockstar is looking to experiment. A dissection of the many ways school bullies are made and reformed would be good, rather than the same privately educated kid that we all know by now. Even so, if Red Dead Redemption 2 proves anything, its that a sequel can be a prequel, so who knows!

The first game was littered with mechanics to help Jimmy cause chaos at Bullworth, from slingshots to stink bombs and bags of marbles to trip Jocks up. Yet if the game does jump forward to University, there’s scope to implement almost Persona-esque side rackets and jobs, as well as new throwable objects, weapons and mediums of engagement to make a name for yourself on campus. We’ve seen in GTA Online and Chinatown Wars that Rockstar know how to give players side jobs like running their own companies, nightclubs and motorcycle gangs.
No doubt there’ll be some sort of allusion to drug use and sale if Bully 2 sees the light of the day, especially if it decides to make the jump to college. In any case, a new suite of mischief mechanics, from 4K 60 FPS swirlies to paper aeroplanes and everything in between would really add some depth to the game. Naturally, there were no guns in Bully, so Rockstar had to get experimental with the limitations, and it worked really well, with ridiculous weapons like bags of dog poop, potato cannons and dodgeballs making the cut. The mind races as to what could come up with for the sequel.

]]>The post Perfect Dark: Everything we know so far appeared first on Game News.
]]>Development of the Perfect Dark reboot is being handled by The Initiative, a brand new studio formed by Microsoft, whose ambition is to “craft an innovative vision for how high-quality games are created and experienced.” While we’re hoping to see more of the game during E3 2022, at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase in the E3 2022 schedule, you should keep reading for everything we know so far about the new Perfect Dark.

The Perfect Dark release date is still going to be a number of years away. The Initiative was formed in 2018, and the studio has spent a number of years staffing up for its secret agent thriller for Xbox Series X and PC. It means that despite being announced in 2020, the Perfect Dark reboot is still in the early stages of development.
A report from VGC (opens in new tab) notes that ‘as much as half’ of the core development team of Perfect Dark left production in 2021, prompting Crystal Dynamics (the studio responsible for the Tomb Raider reboot) to be brought on as co-developers. Basically, expect to be waiting a little while longer to get your hands on the new Perfect Dark.
The first Perfect Dark trailer was revealed at The Game Awards in 2020. The cinematic was designed to give us a sense of what The Initiative is shooting for with its Perfect Dark reboot, giving us but a taste of what a Joanna Dark adventure might look like in the new generation. The trailer, which can be viewed above, shows gorgeous graphics, a world wrought by ecological disasters, and a sci-fi aesthetic that we can’t wait to spend more time in.

When Perfect Dark does eventually land on Xbox Series X, it’s set to be a first-person shooter which really leans into the super spy fantasy. Former design director Dew Murray spoke about the broad concept in 2020 (opens in new tab), explaining: “One of the things we thought about was how to differentiate what we call ‘spy fighting’ versus what you’d see in a traditional first-person shooter…”
“[You’ll be] sliding under things, jumping over things. We really wanted to play up the physicality and being in the world, getting some of that camera movement that we see watching body cameras, GoPros, and trying to get that excitement of moving in places and in ways that you and I don’t.”

Microsoft is in no rush to get this Perfect Dark reboot out into the world – it’ll be released when it’s ready. The Initiative was founded in 2018 and headed up by Darrell Gallagher – who played a key role in the 2013 revival of Tomb Raider with Crystal Dynamics. Rumors have circulated for a number of years that The Initiative has struggled to retain staff, as development of Perfect Dark became more complex, although Gallagher later told VGC: “It’s no small task to build a studio and reinvent a beloved franchise… In this journey, it’s not uncommon for there to be staffing changes, especially during a time of global upheaval over the last two years, and there’s plenty more work in front of us to deliver a fantastic Perfect Dark experience to our players.”
In 2021, Microsoft announced that The Initiative was partnering with Crystal Dynamics to complete development of the Perfect Dark reboot. In a statement, The Initiative drew attention to the “world class team behind character-driven games such as Tomb Raider” which will help it “to bring this first-person spy thriller to a new generation”. Crystal Dynamics was acquired by Embracer Group from Square Enix in 2022, but has since confirmed that it will continue working on the new Perfect Dark in a co-developer capacity.

]]>The post Nintendo Switch Pro: Everything we know about Nintendo’s rumored console appeared first on Game News.
]]>With the Switch now surpassing the success of the Wii in sales figures and the console being in the middle of its life cycle, another updated model isn’t entirely out of the question. We may still see another version of Switch. It’s certainly easy to imagine how well a Switch Pro would sell. While we wait to see what the future holds and if we do ever get official confirmation, we’ve gathered together everything we know so far about the rumored Nintendo Switch Pro.
The Nintendo Switch Pro was the name being used to describe the rumored mid-lifecycle console refresh for the Nintendo Switch. While we now know the Switch OLED seems to have filled that slot, there were rumors initially pointing towards a Nintendo Switch Pro with different specs:

Rumors started circulating about the Nintendo Switch Pro back in early 2019. The Wall Street Journal (opens in new tab) reported on the matter citing “parts suppliers and software developers for Nintendo” in March 2019, saying that the company was working on two new Switch models. The first was a “cheaper option for casual gamers”, which sounds very much like the Switch Lite we saw that same year, but the other outlined a more powerful, full HD Switch model aimed at the more hardcore market. And the gossip hasn’t stopped since.
Recent rumors included a Wcctech report (opens in new tab) where a dataminer found signs of this in the Switch’s firmware code. “The tablet itself definitely has an upgraded display,” dataminer SciresM mentions, adding that the new hardware is codenamed Aula. “I don’t know if it’s 4K. Aula has firmware support, some Realtek chip that advertises itself as a ‘4K UHD multimedia SoC’ too, hence my belief it’s 4K.”
As the dataminer clarifies afterward, it’s unsure whether this is related to the console’s chip or the dock itself. It would make more sense to see this in the dock itself, such as how the Switch currently supports resolutions higher than its native 720p HD display when docked compared to handheld mode, but there’s no certainty for the time being.
Back in August 2020, Bloomberg (opens in new tab) claimed that Nintendo was investigating a new Switch model that has not only 4K “high-definition graphics” but also more computing power. But it was in October when a report from Economic Daily News (opens in new tab) hinted that the Nintendo Switch Pro could feature Mini-LED technology, manufactured by Innolux Corporation. As well as reflecting the push towards higher resolutions, it could also lead to increased battery life, as well as improvements in the screen’s brightness and contrast, compared to the current LCD display.
In March 2021, Bloomberg (opens in new tab)reported that we could see a new 4K Switch with an OLED screen sometime before the holidays. Apparently, Nintendo called on the Samsung Display Co. to produce seven-inch, 720p-resolution OLED panels in preparation for a Christmas launch. With four years since the launch of the original, the timing feels right for an upgrade.
In May of 2021, a listing for “New Nintendo Switch Pro” reportedly popped up on Amazon Mexico, but we’ve seen retailers jump the gun with placeholder listings before. More exciting is the news from earlier this month, via the vast rumor mills of Twitter, that we will see the new Nintendo Switch Pro at E3, and we’ll be able to pre-order it too. Of course, this then turned out to be the Nintendo Switch OLED model.

So far, there haven’t been any official indications that Nintendo is ready to go next-gen, or indeed launch any kind of Nintendo Switch Pro just yet.
However, in a Polygon interview (opens in new tab) back in December, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser talked about how the company is always looking at technology, how it evolves and changes over time, from which upon they can start asking themselves how they can enhance and improve the gameplay experience. “And whether that’s on a current platform,” Bowser adds, “or whether that’s on a future platform, we’re always looking at that.” But he also calls the momentum on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite fourth year “strong”, and mentions that they will “continue, for the foreseeable future, to really lean into both of those platforms and the content that comes with it.”
If the Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 3DS have shown anything in the past, we can expect to see even more iterations of Nintendo’s hybrid console.

The island has flipped over to reveal a totally new Fortnite map on the other side, with three distinct biomes to explore. The whole western half of the island is covered in snow, and contains some familiar locations from the past such as Greasy Grove and Shifty Shafts – we’ve also been promised that when some of this snow melts later to uncover the grassland beneath, a hidden secret will be revealed. There’s also the tropical biome to the east, which contains The Seven’s home of Sanctuary, and the desert biome on the south coast featuring an extensive racetrack and a return of Mancake’s Butter Barn landmark.

Fortnite new weapons available for the start of the season include the Range Assault Rifle, MK-Seven Assault Rifle, Striker Pump Shotgun, Auto Shotgun, Sidearm Pistol, Stinger SMG, and Hunter Bolt-Action Sniper, though most other weapons are now safely stored back in the vault. There are also some fresh items, such as the Med-Mist spray that can be used on yourself or a teammate to heal, and the amount of spray you apply determines how much health you (or they) recover. Guzzle Juice can also be consumed to return your HP to 100 over time, but if you take any damage from an opponent then the healing will stop, so avoid your enemies while it’s in effect.

One of the big new changes for Fortnite Chapter 3 is the addition of Tents, which you can use to set up camp then pop inside to heal up by resting. You can also stash up to three items in a tent, which can then be reclaimed in a future match by constructing a new Tent or taking over a deserted one, and although the first two slots are free you’ll need to rent the third one using Bars. Teammates can interact with your Tent to buy their own by spending Bars, and you can also pack up your Tent and move it to a new location at any time.

If you place highly enough during a match – top player in Solos, or top team in Duos, Trios, or Squads – then you’ll start the next match wearing the Fortnite Victory Crown, however this will shine and stand you out to other players who will take your crown if they eliminate you. Carrying the crown will net you bonus XP, and if you win while in possession of one you’ll earn a coveted Crowned Victory Royale, along with a new emote that reveals how many Crowned Victory Royales you’ve collected in the season.

Sliding is a new mechanic to help you get around, and holding the crouch button while sprinting is how to slide in Fortnite. You can still shoot or build while sliding, and it’s a particularly efficient method of getting downhill. From December 11 you’ll also be able to get your hands on the Fortnite Spider-Man Web Shooters, which can be used to swing between buildings like Spidey himself. While down but not out in team modes you can now crawl faster, pick up items, open chests and doors, and manage your inventory, to help you escape to safety more quickly and reach your teammates for a revive. Quadcrashers have returned from the vault, to provide an off-road travel option that’s also great for barreling through opponents’ structures thanks to the ram on the front.

You can now find Daily, Season, and Milestone Quests in the menu, along with questlines for certain characters you unlock through the Battle Pass. As well as earning XP for each one you complete, you’ll also receive additional XP for bonus goals by ticking off a certain number of quests. If you head to the Sanctuary named location and communicate through The Device, you’ll receive further quests from The Scientist that will extend beyond the current season to unlock the secrets of The Seven.

Working together with your squad can now make things go faster, such as reviving a downed teammate or activating a Reboot Van. There are also Fortnite vaults hidden around the island that require more than one player to unlock, so you’ll need to visit them with your team, try to form an alliance with an opponent, or hire one of the Fortnite characters to get inside and see what’s buried within.

Included in the Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 Battle Pass are a number of new skins to unlock and add fresh characters to your roster, which include:
Later on in the Season, around February 3, 2022, the leader of The Seven – The Foundation, played by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson – will unlock with a set of quests to earn his items. There will also be new Spider-Men, along with friends and foes, appearing in the Item Shop for purchase during the season.

They haven’t been implemented yet, but we’re told that later in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 the Storm circle will be accompanied by other effects. These will include lightning strikes that may damage players or the scenery, and tornadoes that can suck up and spin around players before spitting them out.

Looking at other things to come later in the season, a new addition to the wildlife living on the island has been suggested. Details are scarce, but it is rumored to be quite large, and it is thought that the Raptors haven’t returned to the new island as they’ve been scared off by this beast. One of the promotional images for Fortnite Chapter 3 shows what appears to be a giant dinosaur, so perhaps we’ll be hunting that down in the future.
