]]>The YouTube channel Bad Robo (opens in new tab) is responsible for these magnificent creations, and has designed several different areas of this jungle setting, including a waterfall city (opens in new tab) which looks as though it was taken right out of James Cameron’s Avatar. Take a look at this amazing creation below.

In the video, we get a glimpse of an ongoing creation, according to the designer themselves, which makes it feel like you’re walking through the Amazon Rainforest. From the clouds to the path, and even the river below. To dive even deeper into these worlds, fans of Bad Robo’s work can take a look at their VR work (opens in new tab) which was also created in Dreams.
What’s even more impressive about these designs is that according to a tweet (opens in new tab) from the creator, they were actually designed on a base PS4 console, not even the Pro model. As well as showing off their latest work, Bad Robo’s YouTube channel also has tutorials on how to develop in Dreams including guides on lighting, reflections, creating assets plus so much more.
Dreams was developed by Media Molecule in 2019 as a game design system that allows players to design their own interactive worlds and assets using Dream’s built-in tools and tutorials. This has led to several unique creations including the best-looking carpet we’ve ever seen, an indie God of War game, and even an unofficial Ratchet and Clank sequel. The amazing creations made in Dreams actually led to the creation of the Impy Awards, an awards ceremony to celebrate the Dreams community.

There’s a grand total of 19 awards to hand out at the Impy Awards in February. Included within the multitude of categories are Best Curator, Best Art Direction, Best Sculpture, and Best Animator, as well as broader categories like Creation of the Year, Creator of the Year, and Best Innovator. If you’re wondering what the Impy Awards actually consist of, you can check out a complete recap of the first awards ceremony from 2019 just below.
There’s also a reward focused on the single best VR level in Dreams. VR support was only added for Media Molecule’s game earlier this year in July, and enables players to use their PlayStation VR headset to play levels in Dreams.
Perhaps one level that could be in the running for a reward in February is The Mandalorian: Conviction. If you’ve ever wondered what a game about The Mandalorian would look like, incorporating stealth-based gameplay elements from Splinter Cell, then this Dreams creation has all your questions answered.

]]>As you might expect, it’s not an easy feat rendering a near-photorealistic, explorable forest simulation, not even in Media Molecule’s new tool for user-created content. Asked by a fan on YouTube for tips on sculpting a work of art like ‘Forest in the Rain,’ creator Bad Robo (opens in new tab) advised to start scouring the web for tutorials.
“There are already thousands of tutorials on sculpting and logic on the Internet. If I were you, I would start with community assets and build a simple level out of them, and after a while you will be getting better at what you do and you will be more willing to learn new techniques,” wrote the creator.
Bad Robo also confirmed that while ‘Forest in the Rain’ isn’t playable yet, the project is being developed as an actual game, rather than just an environment.
Although it hasn’t been out for long, Dreams has already generated some insanely creative content, like a Seinfeld horror game (opens in new tab), a recreation of Ghost of Tsushima (opens in new tab), and a mouthwatering full English breakfast (opens in new tab).
Considering the expertise and dedication that goes into making these impressive creations, it’s good to see Media Molecule exploring a way for Dreams users to potentially profit from their work (opens in new tab). Note that the program (opens in new tab) is currently in beta and only open to creators who were active during the Dreams Early Access phase.
Here’s a list of the best Dreams PS4 levels (opens in new tab) you can play right now.
