Ybarra’s tweet was in response to a fan who criticised the fact Blizzard is working on a survival game set in “a whole new universe.” This new project was announced yesterday alongside some concept art and job listings in a blog post on the official Blizzard website.
Updates on these beloved Blizzard franchises has got to be good news to fans, especially considering we haven’t heard too much about Overwatch 2 since it was announced in 2019. It was recently claimed that Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick contributed to delays with months of lost dev time and that not only Overwatch 2 but Diablo 4 have been pushed out of 2022 so they reach their “full potential.” Last we heard about Diablo 4, the game had reached “a significant milestone,” but we still shouldn’t expect the game to release this year.
In case you missed it, Microsoft recently announced that it was buying Activision for almost $70 billion. This means any studios under the Activision brand – including Blizzard, King, Toys for Bob, Raven Software, and more – will soon belong to Microsoft. Don’t worry just yet though, Activision games will still be enjoyed on a variety of platforms despite Xbox takeover.

]]>The post Diablo 4 is expected to be announced at BlizzCon 2019, alongside a remaster of Diablo 2 appeared first on Game News.
]]>The information comes from an industry insider known on Twitter as Metro (opens in new tab), who has a proven track record of breaking BlizzCon news before it’s officially announced on the show floor of Blizzard’s annual game expo.
For anyone who cares, diablo 4 and diablo 2 remastered will also be announced.

Metro has also shared leaked images of BlizzCon 2019’s promotional material from another Twitter source, which explicitly references Diablo 4 (titled “Diablo IV”) in a blurb for a new art book all about the famed demon-slaying series.

These latest leaks corroborate previous reports broken by Kotaku (opens in new tab) last year, which states that Diablo 4 has long been in the works at Blizzard, and was almost announced at BlizzCon 2018 before unexpected delays meant the company had to infamously headline the show with Diablo Immortal, a mobile-only spin-off developed in collaboration with Tencent.
This is the first we’ve heard of a Diablo 2 remaster, however, but the recent success of World of Warcraft Classic (opens in new tab) and last year’s Warcraft 3: Reforged announcement suggests Blizzard is increasingly open to riding on the nostalgia of its heritage.
It’s likely we won’t hear anything official about either of these rumoured Diablo projects from Blizzard itself until the BlizzCon 2019 press conference, which takes place on November 1, but we’ll let you know if we hear more, including any news about Overwatch 2 (opens in new tab)…

Keep in mind there’s a bunch of things this list doesn’t factor in, such as Collectors Editions, Game of the Year re-releases, and digital downloads. Still, when Australian gamers are reaching backwards for their next gaming fix, it’s either an interesting indictment on their tastes, or on the standard of games released in 2012. What’s your take?

]]>According to the official synopsis from Blizzard, Leah “struggles to make sense of her uncle’s mysterious and disturbing notations, she bears witness to a dark vision. Azmodan, Lord of Sin, towers over the fragile young woman, swearing his armies of the burning Hells shall pour forth into Sanctuary, ravishing the world and all hope of resistance.” We don’t know about you, but that would be enough to have us drop to our knees and cry, too. Big, scary demons pouring out of the bowels of hell and taking over the world? That’s some scary, scary stuff.
And we can’t wait to kill and loot them. I bet the big one is carrying a sweet unique axe. We call dibs.
