The information comes from an industry insider known on Twitter as Metro (opens in new tab), who has a proven track record of breaking BlizzCon news before it’s officially announced on the show floor of Blizzard’s annual game expo.

Metro has also shared leaked images of BlizzCon 2019’s promotional material from another Twitter source, which explicitly references Diablo 4 (titled “Diablo IV”) in a blurb for a new art book all about the famed demon-slaying series.

These latest leaks corroborate previous reports broken by Kotaku (opens in new tab) last year, which states that Diablo 4 has long been in the works at Blizzard, and was almost announced at BlizzCon 2018 before unexpected delays meant the company had to infamously headline the show with Diablo Immortal, a mobile-only spin-off developed in collaboration with Tencent. 

This is the first we’ve heard of a Diablo 2 remaster, however, but the recent success of World of Warcraft Classic (opens in new tab) and last year’s Warcraft 3: Reforged announcement suggests Blizzard is increasingly open to riding on the nostalgia of its heritage. 

It’s likely we won’t hear anything official about either of these rumoured Diablo projects from Blizzard itself until the BlizzCon 2019 press conference, which takes place on November 1, but we’ll let you know if we hear more, including any news about Overwatch 2 (opens in new tab)…

The woes keep coming for Blizzard as it has beenrevealed (opens in new tab)that a fairly simple exploit allows players complete invulnerability by entering a series of commands with the Wizard.

The bug was spotted and reported on Blizzard’s Diablo 3 forums (opens in new tab) and the fanbase quickly took notice with dozens of users saying they’d be heading online to topple Hardcore mode now that the bug protected their characters.

It’s unclear what the ramifications of this will be, although it seems clear that Blizzard is aware of the issue in some capacity as they have removed the technique for activating the invulnerability bug from the original post. It’s likely Blizzard will issue an emergency patch to fix this before long, but by then plenty of free gear could potentially be farmed from high level bosses.

It seems a tad unfair to pick on Blizzard for one small exploit that happened to be the equivalent of God Mode. It’s more bad luck than negligence on Blizzard’s part, however this is the sort of thing they needed to anticipate when implementing the Real-Money Auction House, and fans have a right to be annoyed.

The gold farmers have got to be having a jolly old time this morning.

The controversial launch of Blizzard’s Diablo 3 Real-Money Auction House is coming up soon, and Blizzard isramping up (opens in new tab)security in anticipation.

The service has already been hit with a number of high-profile hacks and account thefts since the launch a month ago, and Blizzard is taking as few chances as possible when people’s actual bank accounts are exposed. To that end, they’re now announcing that an authenticator will be required for adding money to accounts and sending proceeds into an account.

“While we understand that this creates an extra step for players during the login process, we believe this added layer of account protection will help foster a safer auction house environment for all of our players,” reads a statement (opens in new tab)posted by Blizzard on their forums.

The Battle.net authenticator is available in a physical form (opens in new tab) for $6.50, and just so you know they’re not just trying to nickel-and-dime you, you can get it for free (opens in new tab) on your smartphone.

This morning a listing appeared on the website of aGerman games retailer (opens in new tab), and it’s raisinga few eyebrows (opens in new tab)on the eve of the industry’s most important week.

No one yet knows whether this is a bizarre guess by the German retailer, a complete mistake, or (possibly) a screw up that revealed Diablo 3 PS3 a little bit early. We’re going to have to wait until Sony and/or Activision’s press conference to be sure.

The one interesting tidbit about all of this is that the website does not list an Xbox 360 or WiiU version. Which is interesting, because the original Diablo was also PlayStation console exclusive. That could mean that there’s some merit to this listing.

Although it could also mean that the retailer is trying to make a prediction, and is using the original Diablo’s release plan as a blueprint for how Diablo 3 will go. They’d have to be pretty silly to do that though. Hopefully we’ll get more clarification on this during the press conferences this week.

Blizzard hasn’t had a console release since 1997’s The Lost Vikings 2 (which, for the record, is a pretty high note on which to leave the field). The first Diablo saw a PS1 port courtesy of Climax Group and publisher EA, but the series has been mouse-and-keys-only since then. Sams says this isn’t due to any aversion on Blizzard’s part: “We just want to make a great game. If the best experience involves a mouse and a keyboard, we’ll put it on PC. If it plays better with a controller, that’s the route we’d take. If it works on both… we’d make it for both.”

“We think that we can have a really exciting and compelling experience that will play well on console in addition to PC,” says Sams. With the Diablo III release date confirmed for May (opens in new tab), the company’s preoccupied mainly with the game’s initial debut – but don’t be surprised to hear more about potential ports soon.

Big, scary demons pouring out of the bowels of hell and taking over the world? That’s some scary, scary stuff.

And we can’t wait to kill and loot them. I bet the big one is carrying a sweet unique axe. We call dibs.
