The post Death Stranding Holograms – customize structures with sound and celebrities appeared first on Game News.
]]>It all comes from the Death Stranding hologram customization system, which you eventually get to play with in the Eastern Region. It’s reasonably early in the game but still not straight away and nothing is explained that clearly so it’s easily overlooked. With that in mind let us explain exactly how the Death Stranding hologram system works so you can join in on the fun.

To unlock holograms in Death Stranding you simply need to deliver cargo to the stations dotted around the map. There are a few story-specific Death Stranding holograms that unlock after main missions, but the bulk of the rare ones you can find are achieved by delivering cargo and levelling up preppers, who often provide holographic versions of themselves as rewards. Keep pushing through those stars until they unlock, and if you’re keen to get a holographic version of a certain prepper, make sure you focus on them first!

Once you’ve unlocked a fancy Death Stranding hologram to use on your structures, progress the main story until the wizards at Bridges offer Sam the PCC, a tool that lets you build things like postboxes and bridges. The game will give you a handy tutorial for each new structure as you get it but don’t really go into much more detail. However, once you’ve made something you’ll see you can level it up and once the structure is level two you can customize it. Hold the Options Button to access the structure menu when you’re stood in front of the structure, and add materials to upgrade it (these will depend on the structure).
Once the process is finished you should be able to see a ‘Customize Structure’ prompt in the structure menu. Advance the menus until you reach the structure customisation screen and you should see a set of tabs: Music, Voice, Holograms and Rare Holograms. Select the hologram you want and hold X to confirm the choice and you should see the hologram appear on your structure when you approach it.
You can’t have both music playing and a hologram on a structure, so choose wisely as to which you’d like other players to experience once they come across your souped-up gilded generator. Maybe you want some Bring Me The Horizon to greet the player instead of a concerned Guillermo Del Toro? That part is up to you.

]]>The final trailer, directed and edited by Kojima himself, is an almost five-minute exploration of the game’s most horrendous vibes. With only a couple of exceptions – including some combat and a peek at the new racing track – the trailer is compiled almost exclusively from cutscene footage.

Unfortunately, the footage Kojima has chosen seems to be a showcase of the very worst moments in the game. Starting with the pure body horror of the baby that lives in Sam Bridges’ gullet, and underscored by a pretty unsettling soundtrack, we get a quick rundown of the environmental chaos that defines much of the game’s world.
From there, it’s just shot after shot of something vaguely unnerving at best, and actively scary at worst. There’s not a single Monster Energy can, celebrity cameo, or Good Vibe to be seen, which makes you wonder whether the Director’s Cut is really leaning into an even creepier approach than the original release.
While the world might be scary as hell, Sam’s job should at least be getting a little easier. A previous trailer outlined various new delivery methods, including a little robot to keep you company in the wilderness, and a literal cannon.
Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is launching later this month, exclusively on the PS5. You’ll be able to play from September 24, which means there are just a few more weeks to wait.

]]>The new computer case for Death Stranding is being made by Tsukomo. You can see the complete overview trailer for the case just below, which is perfectly suited to capture Kojima Productions’s debut independent outing.
Technically speaking, the special PC case has room for up to a regular ATX motherboard, two dedicated mounts for a 3.5″ and a 2.5″ hard drive, and four total USB ports on the front of the PC. It won’t come cheap though, because the Death Stranding PC case is retailing $248 with shipping included.
For more on the specifications of the PC case itself, head over to the Tsukomo website (opens in new tab). Note that the PC case actually went on sale yesterday, so assuming there’s fairly limited supplies of the elaborate case, you might want to get your skates on if you want one of your own.
Death Stranding launched on PC last year in July 2020, having debuted on PS4 the year before. Earlier this year, a leaker claimed that an “extended edition” of the game was in production for the PS5, and would contain bonus story content among other details. So far, this port hasn’t materialized, although the same leaker claimed again in March that it was “close” to being revealed.

]]>The post Kojima Productions could announce its next game “quite soon,” says art director appeared first on Game News.
]]>Death Stranding art director and longtime Kojima collaborator Yoji Shinkawa recently sat down with AI Hub (via VGC) and was asked if he could share anything about his next project. “Well yeah, I am doing something, for sure, and I could tell you probably that we can announce it quite soon,” Shinkawa teased, without going further into specifics.
Back in October, a fresh batch of job listings confirmed Kojima Productions’ next game after months of teases. We haven’t heard anything about the project since, but the job descriptions mention “mechas” and seem to suggest some form of online multiplayer component.
Digging a little further back to September 2019, Kojima teased the possibility of a Death Stranding sequel, and then in March Norman Reedus said he’d already been in talks with Kojima for another project. A few months later, Kojima again teased a new project that seemed to be related to Death Stranding. For those reasons, Death Stranding 2 doesn’t seem so far-fetched, but then we’ve also got a tweet from November 2019 implying that Kojima plans on making “the scariest horror game,” so really it’s all pretty up in the air at the moment. Fortunately, it doesn’t sound like we’ll be waiting long to see what Kojima Productions has up its sleeve.

]]>Death Stranding PC publisher 505 Games just unveiled a new series of video interviews with Hideo Kojima, and the first part also just so happens to overlap with Death Stranding going on sale for half-off on Steam and the Epic Games Store. In the interview Kojima, talks about one of the questions he wants players to think about even as making deliveries and avoiding B.T.s remains at the forefront of their minds.

“My other intention was for the beautiful world that Sam traverses to be filled with roads, structures, and so on that had been built by online users,” Kojima said. “These users also leave footprints wherever they go. This idea of humans rebuilding a civilization in this wild, beautiful world… That’s one of the game’s sub-concepts.”
“The question of whether that’s good or bad is left open. I wanted players to ask themselves, as they proceeded through the game, whether it’s OK to sully this beautiful world with civilization. That’s one of the game’s ‘hidden features,’ if you like.”
Later in the interview, Kojima talked about how proud he is that his team built Death Stranding’s PC version itself, which is “is something that’s usually outsourced.” He left testing Death Stranding’s mouse controls to the staff, though, because he’s “not really good” at it.
“Also, what might be the most important aspect is that core PC gamers are pretty vocal and opinionated about games, and making something that would satisfy them was very tricky. I’m glad we took on the challenge, though, because it seems people are pleased with the results.”
While he’s long gone from Konami, Kojima still seemed pleased when Metal Gear Solid 5 PS3 players disarmed their last nuke.

]]>The Creative Gene: How books, movies, and music inspired the creator of Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid – more snappily titled The Gifted Gene and My Lovable Memes in Japan – was originally published in 2019, but this is the first time an English translation will be available. As well as being treated to Kojima’s thoughts on his favorite media, there’s a conversation with Japanese singer-songwriter Gen Hoshino, who contributed music to Death Stranding.
In a piece for Japanese book site BookBang (opens in new tab), Kojima shared his experiences of reading and how that tied into the book.
“The essays in this volume cover only a tiny fraction of the books and movies that I chose on my own two legs, with my own eyes, and using my own head. This selection, no this context, is what formed me as a person and thus also my work. The memes they imbued me with have given me the energy I need to exist and to create.”
Meanwhile, English publisher Viz shared this synopsis with Polygon (opens in new tab):
Ever since he was a child, Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima was a voracious consumer of movies, music, and books. They ignited his passion for stories and storytelling, and the results can be seen in his groundbreaking, iconic video games. Now the head of independent studio Kojima Productions, Kojima’s enthusiasm for entertainment media has never waned. This collection of essays explores some of the inspirations behind one of the titans of the video game industry, and offers an exclusive insight into one of the brightest minds in pop culture.
Kojima Productions recently revealed it was working on a new project, sharing the news on Twitter and posting a number of job vacancies at the studio, including for people who can create 3D models for things like “mechas.”
To help kill some time until Kojima’s next game release, here’s a bunch of other upcoming games to check out.

On that page, there’s more than 25 job listings, looking for everything from writers to project managers.

Many of the listings are light on details, but feature a little extra information that helps give an idea of what the new game might be. A listing for a network programmer, for example, suggests that the project will contain some degree of online or multiplayer gameplay. Elsewhere, the weapons/artist will be tasked with creating 3D models for a number of items, including “mechas.” All of the jobs require fluency in Japanese, suggesting Kojima isn’t planning to move his Tokyo office overseas anytime soon.
Since last year’s Death Stranding, Kojima and company have dropped plenty of hints that they’re working on something new. Back in September 2019, he said a Death Stranding sequel was a possibility, while in November he said he was getting ready to make a horror game. Norman Reedus said he was in talks to do more with Kojima in March, and more Death Stranding rumours showed up in June. Finally, the Kojima Productions composer revealed yesterday that he was recording for an “undisclosed project.”
This is, however, the first official confirmation we’ve had that the new project is in the works. Given the number of positions open, it looks like the studio is hoping to move into fully-fledged development pretty soon, but that’s still likely to mean that whatever Kojima has up his sleeve is a little while off

]]>The post Death Stranding PC system requirements are surprisingly manageable appeared first on Game News.
]]>Kojima Productions didn’t share the recommended specs for a 1440p setup, but as a guess, it’s probably something like an Intel i7-4790k and an 8GB 1070 for Intel, and for AMD maybe a Ryzen 5 2600 and an 8GB RX 5700 depending on your refresh rate. And even that might be overkill. It’s tough to say without playing the PC build, but at the end of the day it’s a PS4 port, so it won’t be too heavy. Most everyone should be able to hit 60 FPS without much trouble.
Along with the recommended specs, we also got a small update on the previously teased Half-Life content coming to the PC port. “A familiar face has crossed over into the world of Death Stranding,” the studio says, “impersonating Bridges’ employees and sending request emails prompting Sam to locate and secure companion cubes throughout the world. Completing these requests will reveal the mystery behind the friendly imposter and award Sam with useful new equipment and accessories.”
Here’s a look of some of that in action:

While the world of Death Stranding is eerily beautiful, it looks like the photo mode will be fairly standard, with the ability to capture a pic from a variety of angles, change poses, adjust color and brightness with sliders, and apply filters. There’s even a Polaroid option for the Urban Outfitters millennial in you (I feel seen). Considering the PC version of Death Stranding will support ultra-wide monitors, photo mode seems like a no-brainer.
Kojima’s teaser has PS4 fans wondering if the console will get a photo mode, as you can only capture gameplay via screenshots. While he hasn’t responded to requests to add a photo mode to PS4, he did discuss how he’s including photography modes in most of his games, starting with the original Metal Gear Solid. Kojima also discussed potentially hosting Death Stranding photography competitions, so expect a lot of BBs on your timeline again in the near future.
I came up the idea called “camera” in MGS1(1998). I thought it’d be effective having the items like “sniper rifle”, “remote control missile” and “camera” if we could switch the camera POV ⇄3rd person view if the game world can exists all in 3D.March 4, 2020

]]>YouTuber Allen Pan (opens in new tab) starts by admitting to a sympathetic dilemma: putting on weight over the holidays. In looking for a way to shed the weight and stay fit long term, Pan took to some rather unconventional measures. By converting an old, abandoned treadmill into a functional PS4 controller, the YouTuber can enjoy his gaming hobby guilt-free and even productively.
The electrical engineer by degree goes into some detail to explain how the feat was made possible, but I refuse to embarrass myself trying to summarize the process. Essentially, the modder was able to rewire his second-hand treadmill and have it act as a PS4 controller’s left thumbstick, with the rest of the game’s controls functioning as usual via an actual DualShock 4. Pan calls the exercise “nauseating,” and I don’t for one minute doubt him – trudging through Death Stranding’s rocky hillsides can be tiring enough sat on a three-piece suite.
You can see Pan and his friends walking and running through Death Stranding’s environments wearing backpacks. As expected, no one has an easy time, proving Norman Reedus’s chiseled physique is more than just show.
