Cyberpunk 2077 anime spin-off Edgerunners will offer a preview at Netflix’s upcoming Geeked Week 2022.

Earlier today, Netflix revealed the full Geeked Week 2022 slate via the announcement trailer below. Focusing on all things sci-fi and pop culture, the event will offer trailers, interviews, and more details on upcoming shows and movies debuting on Netflix, including the forthcoming Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime.

This will be the first we’ve seen of the Cyberpunk 2077 anime spin-off. There’s not much information to go on right now, but if you want to know as soon as the new info drops between June 6 and 10, you can head over to the official Edgerunner website (opens in new tab) and sign up for email alerts. You can also follow the new Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Twitter account (opens in new tab) for any updates.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was originally announced back in June 2020, months before CD Projekt Red’s game even launched. “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner – a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk,” an announcement summary said of the plot.

Edgerunners is actually being developed by Studio Trigger for Netflix, a name you might’ve heard before in anime circles. They’re responsible for such works as Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, Darling in the Franxx, BNA: Brand New Animal, and Promare. If you’ve watched Star Wars: Visions, you’ll have seen the works of Studio Trigger in two episodes: ‘The Twins’ and ‘The Elder.’ Studio Trigger has an astounding portfolio, meaning Edgerunners should be one to watch later this year.

Cyberpunk 2077’s big 1.5 update is here, and players are already cataloguing all the changes.

Yesterday on February 15, CD Projekt Red announced the immediate launch of update 1.5 for Cyberpunk 2077, introducing a wide swathe of brand new features and improvements for the 2020 action-RPG. The new patch was aimed at overhauling various visual and gameplay elements of Cyberpunk 2077 including, as you can see below, introducing police chases for the first time.

A big focus of patch 1.5 for Cyberpunk 2077 was making the world of Night City feel more responsive and lived in. Elsewhere on the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit, there have been posts demonstrating citizens and police reacting to shootings, as well as new AI traffic behaviour (opens in new tab), so it certainly seems as though the patch has done a lot for Cyberpunk 2077’s world.

A rework of romance options in Cyberpunk 2077 was also a big focus of the new 1.5 patch. You’ll now see more dialog from the likes of Panam and Judy, as well as occasionally waking up next to them in your apartment when you go to sleep. You’ll even get, as one post demonstrates (opens in new tab), some pretty horny texts from your romantic partners in CD Projekt Red’s game, which the comments suggest players are pretty excited about.

The Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit is generally awash with people documenting the changes made to the game right now. There’s the likes of players marvelling at the introduction of umbrellas when it rains (opens in new tab), brand new water effects (opens in new tab) when the player pelts puddles and rivers with bullets, and protagonist V’s shadow no longer being permanently bald (opens in new tab), for some reason. In all, it’s fair to say Cyberpunk 2077’s patch 1.5 has gone down a treat with its community.

The Cyberpunk 2077 new-gen version is launching today, alongside the hefty 1.5 update.

Just earlier today, CD Projekt Red announced during a livestream that the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Cyberpunk 2077 would be arriving later today on both platforms. You can check out gameplay of the PS5 version just below, which boasts ray-tracing, faster loading times, and a boatload of other technical and visual improvements (as well as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback for the PS5’s DualSense controller).

There are also two game modes for Cyberpunk on PS5 and Xbox Series X: Performance, and Ray-Tracing. The former mode boosts the game to a stable 60 frames per second across both platforms, while the latter locks the action to 30FPS, but with added ray-traced additions like reflections. The Xbox Series S only has a Performance mode meanwhile, generating 1440p output with 30FPS.

Elsewhere, update 1.5 for all versions of Cyberpunk 2077 was detailed in full. This new version of the game debuts a reworked perk tree, improvements to AI, changes to crowds and traffic behavior, adjustments to driving mechanics, and much more. It even adds brand new apartments for V to rent all around Night City, provided you’ve got the cash for them.

This all follows after extensive rumors of a new-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077. We originally knew that the new-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 would be launching at some point this year, but last month in January, a user noted that PSN had been updated to quietly add a PS5 version of Cyberpunk 2077 in the backend, seemingly pointing to an imminent launch.

Just yesterday even, Xbox’s dashboard appeared to out the shadow-launch of Cyberpunk 2077’s upgrade, listing a new-gen upgrade as available to download, even though it wasn’t. Now though, all this speculation has been cleared up, and the upgraded version of CD Projekt Red’s action-RPG is here to stay.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been updated on Steam’s database for the first time since October – hinting at an imminent update.

Over the past weekend, users on the official Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit (opens in new tab) noted that the game’s history had been updated on SteamDB to reflect a new entry. As of January 14, CD Projekt Red’s game had received a new build via Steam’s backend, one that isn’t currently available to the public.

Of course, this naturally sets the speculation wheels in motion. Cyberpunk 2077 has received a bounty of updates since it originally launched in December 2020, with each one quashing a considerable number of bugs and glitches to improve the overall game, and so it’s highly possible that this SteamDB entry could be for another such update.

However, as some fans are speculating, it could also herald the arrival of a more significant update for Cyberpunk 2077. In November last year, CD Projekt announced a “major update” and DLC expansion for the RPG, with a new-gen upgrade set to launch in the early portion of 2022. Some users are now anticipating that this unannounced update could be the new-gen upgrade.

Right now of course, nothing is known for certain. Cyberpunk 2077’s new forthcoming update could be a quality of life fix, the prelude for new single-player DLC, or the new-gen version for PS5 and Xbox Series X. We’ll have to wait and see to find out what this update for Cyberpunk 2077 actually is.

Tattoos in video games are tricky. When done right, they add an extra layer of immersion to a game world. When done wrong, they can feel jarringly out of sync with either the game’s art style or the tattooed character in question. Tattoos are powerful visual markers that can help tell stories and build worlds, which is why they can be especially powerful in video games.

Recent advances in both game development technology and platform processing power allow tattoos to be more detailed and realistic than ever. That’s a huge part of the reason why games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Cyberpunk 2077 have such beautiful, intricate, and realistic ink. But it’s not just improved visuals that make a good game tattoo.

As evidenced by the beautiful Japanese traditional tattoos designed for the Yakuza series by legendary tattoo artist Horitomo, a keen understanding of tattoo culture and the process of tattooing can make video game tattoos standout pieces of art and worldbuilding, whether it offers in-depth character backgrounds, customization options, or immersion by way of ink. The three games highlighted here are setting new standards when it comes to in-game tattoos.

Variety and attention to detail are crucial when creating an immersive game, particularly one that lets you customize your characters with tattoos. With a world as vast as Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red had their work cut out for them. Cyberpunk 2077 has some of the best variety of video game tattoos, with multiple genres of ink represented – including traditional Japanese tattoos and the red-and-black sticker book motif seen on Judy Alvarez.

“In the world of Night City, personal style is extremely important,” says Waldek Kamiński, senior concept artist at CD Projekt Red. “There is room for a ton of badass designs in many different styles, so while creating new tattoos I could constantly be asking myself ‘Is this cool? Would someone like or choose to have a tattoo like this?'”

Those questions help make the world of Night City feel more rich and lived-in, as its occupants’ tattoos are a direct reflection of the society Cyberpunk 2077 is trying to depict. “You have to be asking yourself a number of important questions to help guide the design from start to finish: ‘Where is the tattoo gonna be on the body? Why did this NPC decide to have this tattoo? How will the player react to seeing this in-game? What will they think about this character when they do see it? Does this tattoo fit the character’s personality? Is this cool? Does this design fit the style/art direction of the game?’ and so on,” Kamiński explains. “I think, most importantly, you need to make sure that whatever you create fits the game world, and the character you’re designing the ink for. It needs to feel like a natural fit.”

That thought process is carried all throughout Cyberpunk 2077, from the lowly NPCs that occupy Night City’s streets to powerful allies such as Judy Alvarez. In the case of Alvarez, CDPR wanted her tattoos to be meaningful – to not only give you a sense of her place in the world, but an idea of who she was before she befriended V. “First, we decided what style of tattoos would be the best fit for her – scattered around the body, only two colors, etc. Second, we took her background as a diver and made sure that was reflected in her ink through a sea motif, including a shark and some seahorses,” says Kamiński. “Judy is a really mysterious character, especially when you first meet her. V needs to spend time with her to learn about her past, her ideals, who she is as a person, so I wanted to transmit that air of mystery in her tattoos, too.”

Viking ink

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Where CDPR used ink as a way of immersing you in the world of Night City and to reflect the broad nature of body modification in Cyberpunk 2077, Ubisoft Montreal was faced with a different challenge. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, an impressive selection of Viking-style tattoos was introduced to help players craft their own version of Eivor. While these were well-received by fans, the designs almost didn’t make it into the final game. During production, Ubisoft tried desperately to find historical evidence that Vikings even had tattoos. It was only when the team discovered an account from Muslim historian Ahmad ibn Fadlan, that spoke of a Scandinavian people covered in markings, that the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla team was able to continue their tattoo design work.

“The markings were very interlaced designs, Celtic patterns, the kind where if you look at it too much your head’s gonna explode,” says Nicolas Rivard, art director for visual conception at Ubisoft Montreal. “I did some of those, I was throwing some challenges to myself, making mood boards and briefs for more talented people who can do real illustration. I tried to do an interlaced pattern and oh boy, man, I had my painkiller bottle next to me.”

Along with the complex interlaced designs seen in historical Viking carvings and artwork, the team drew inspiration from animals, which were also heavily represented in art from that time period. “The crows, the wolves, even some legendary creatures. We had very good information, so we went with that. The first tattoo designs were as close as possible to that benchmark and those guidelines,” Rivard says, before explaining that this was only the beginning of the process. “We want our players to have more than enough to choose from, a lot of our player base love cosplaying as their character, or dressing their character up and going to explore. I don’t know if you saw the pictures that came from the community… it’s insane, man. So we wanted them to have more tattoos.”

That’s why you’ll see that some of Eivor’s available tattoos look like body paint or runes, rather than what is considered to be more traditional Viking tattoos. It’s also why Ubisoft is still adding more tattoo options long after launch, including several that were designed by fans (opens in new tab). By offering players a chance to decorate their Eivor in (mostly) historically accurate ink, Ubisoft gives players myriad options in terms of expression. “Adding as much choice as possible for customizing your character enhances the roleplay aspect. Roleplay for us means immersion, and immersion is what makes a game great,” says Rivard. “The settlement is your home, you can customize your gear, your ship, your horse, and your mount. But the tattoos feel really personal… you’re really in communion with the character, putting those tattoos on and seeing the results. People hide their hard-earned armor sets so you see their tattoos!”

The Japanese tattoo legend

Yakuza Kiwami 2

The tattoos in the Yakuza series not only help establish the setting, but add a layer of unspoken development to its characters. Yakuza features some of the most impressive tattoo work I’ve ever seen in games, and that’s because Sega was smart enough to get a man named Horitomo (opens in new tab) involved. Horitomo is a legendary tattoo artist based in California who specializes in traditional Japanese tattoos called tebori, where tattoos are applied by hand using needles fastened to bamboo sticks.

Before Horitomo came to America, he was doing traditional Japanese tattoos in Yokohama – it was there that he was approached by two producers from Sega. “They asked me to design a tattoo for a game character. They had read an interview I had done for a tattoo magazine and were impressed that I was a Japanese tattoo artist who was studying traditional Japanese tattoos, instead of western styles which were wildly popular in Japan at the time. It was rare to find a tattoo artist studying the traditions of the Japanese tattoo. I guess that impressed them,” says Horitomo, who has designed pieces for Kazuma Kiryu, Akira Nishikiyama, and Yakuza Like a Dragon lead, Ichiban Kasuga, among many others.

Yakuza 7/Yakzua Like a Dragon

“It only made sense to make the tattoo progression realistic, as well”

Horitomo, tattoo artist

Japanese tattoos often depict symbols from woodblock prints, like tigers, koi carp, oni, ghosts, cherry blossoms, and more. Japanese tattoos are incredibly meaningful and often tell a story about the tattooed person in question. So, when it came to designing Ichiban Kasuga’s tattoo, Horitomo proposed a Ryugyo design. “A picture of the fish on its way to becoming a dragon,” he explains. “I felt that it was the perfect motif for that character based on his backstory.”

That level of realism and consideration isn’t just in the design of the tattoos but extends to the tattooing process depicted in the Yakuza series. In Yakuza 0, both Kazuma Kiryu and Akira Nishikiyama have sujibori – the black outlines of tattoos that will eventually be completely colored in. Both their stories and their tattoos are in their infancy, so this design choice tells a clear character story. And the presence of sujibori instead of a completely finished tattoo is also a realistic representation of the Japanese tattooing process. “Traditional Japanese tattoos cover large areas of the body, sometimes the whole body. This cannot be done in one sitting. It can take years to complete just one body part, such as the back where it starts at your shoulders and ends mid-thigh. Traditionally it is done by hand, as well,” Horitomo says. “So to keep with the immersive realism of the Yakuza game series, it only made sense to also make the tattoo progression realistic as well. I feel it really enhances the reality of the game.”

Tattoos can make or break a game’s sense of place. The ones highlighted here are prime examples of the storytelling and world-building power of well-researched and beautifully designed tattoos. Cyberpunk 2077’s tattoos help immerse you in the fictional Night City, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s ink lets players customize their own historically accurate Viking, and Yakuza’s ink provides detailed character backgrounds without saying a word. Video game tattoos can do a lot of narrative heavy lifting and fuel immersion. And they look damn cool while doing it.

Cyberpunk 2077 has officially returned to the PlayStation Store, but Sony doesn’t recommend the game on PS4.

The open-world RPG Cyberpunk 2077 has finally returned to the PlayStation Store on PS4 and PS5, with an announcement (opens in new tab) from developer CD Projekt Red. Those that purchase the game on PS4 will also be able to play it on PS5 through backward compatibility. The PS5 upgrade will be coming in the near future and will be free to players that own the PS4 version, be that digitally or physically.

Despite Cyberpunk 2077 returning to the store, PlayStation has officially advised players (opens in new tab) that “Work on the PS4 version continues,” and that for the best experience, players should play the game on PS4 Pro or PS5. In the press release from CD Projekt Red, it’s also noted that “users may continue to experience some performance issues with the PS4 edition,” and highlights that it’s working to improve stability across all platforms.

The game’s return to the store was speculated last week when it became available to wishlist. Shortly after, it was confirmed to be returning by Sony who said that “users will continue to experience performance issues with the PS4”.

Cyberpunk 2077 returning to the PlayStation Store has been months in the works. When the game launched last year, it was ripe with bugs and performance issues to the point that Sony removed the game from its digital storefront, with no roadmap for its return, refunding players who were dissatisfied with their experience.

Over the last few months, CD Projekt Red has been clear that the game’s return would be up to Sony, and the studio has been pushing regular updates to improve the game somewhat. It looks like those efforts have finally been enough to bring the game back. For the future of Cyberpunk 2077, in addition to planned updates and free DLC, a new game director is jumping on board to focus on the planned future expansions

Cyberpunk 2077 will return to the PlayStation Store on Monday, June 21.

Developer CD Projekt Red confirmed the impending return of the game in a press release (opens in new tab). Specifically, it notes “the decision by Sony Interactive Entertainment to reinstate the availability of the digital edition of Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation Store,” which lines up with previous comments from studio board member Michał Nowakowski, who said last month that Cyberpunk’s return to the storefront was entirely Sony’s call

Sony pulled the game shortly after its disastrous launch, but it’s apparently satisfied with its updated state, or at least considers it saleable. However, in a statement to IGN (opens in new tab), Sony stressed that “users will continue to experience performance issues with the PS4 edition while CD Projekt Red continues to improve stability across all platforms,” and encouraged PlayStation fans to play on a PS4 Pro or a PS5 when possible.

Of course, given how hard it is to buy a PS5, and how unlikely it is that the PS5 stock situation is going to change anytime soon, that’s easier said than done for most people. In any case, if all you have to work with is a base PS4 and you’ve been waiting for hands-on testing to confirm that Cyberpunk 2077 is properly playable on last-gen machines, wait a little longer just to be safe.

CD Projekt Red has outlined a rough roadmap containing several major and minor updates addressing Cyberpunk’s many performance issues, which will roll out alongside planned free DLCs. The latest Cyberpunk 2077 patch notes, for April’s update 1.22, tackled a variety of quest, open-world, and visual bugs, as well as GPU performance and general stability issues. At this point, we’re officially in the non-descript “multiple updates and improvements” section of the studio’s updated timeline, so it’s unclear when the next major patch will arrive.

With CD Projekt Red now reconsidering the direction of the long-planned Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer component, seemingly leaning into universal online options rather than standalone modes, it’s also not clear where the multiplayer fits into this updated roadmap.

Earlier this month, Nowakowski confirmed that the situation with the PlayStation Store had affected “similar conversations” with Xbox, which never pulled Cyberpunk 2077 from its stores but did plaster it with warnings of performance issues. It remains to be seen how and if this update shapes those conversations.

A new video compares the size of maps in games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Cyberpunk 2077, Ghost of Tsushima, and more.

Just below, you can check out the complete comparison video Dimitris Galatus VFX on YouTube. The video provides an overhead perspective of a litany of in-game maps, starting out relatively small with Fortnite and Apex Legends at a few square kilometres apiece, before moving onto the behemoth maps of blockbusters like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

It’s a really neat creation, and helps put different in-game maps into perspective for the player. For example, we never really considered how truly vast the map in Far Cry 5 was, because there’s so many different ways to get around it via vehicles, but when you look at the actual physical size of the map in metres, it dwarfs other games.

Another video by the same YouTube channel gives a great look at how the Assassin’s Creed series has extended over the years. The Assassin’s Creed map size comparison video (opens in new tab) takes us through the complete series, starting out relatively small with Assassin’s Creed, and building through to the gigantic sizes of Odyssey, Valhalla, Black Flag, and more. It’s a great visual showcase of just how much Ubisoft’s series has extended, especially when switching to the RPG formula in recent years.

It’s definitely easier to see how games are getting bigger and bigger year upon year. Last year for example, a leak surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 revealed that the game’s map would be smaller, but more densely packed than that of The Witcher 3. This wasn’t received well by some players, who perceived Cyberpunk 2077’s smaller map to be offering less content compared to CD Projekt’s previous game. It’s easy to see, therefore, why developers might be inclined to make their games larger.

Update: CD Projekt Red says the Cyberpunk 2077 data leaked from the Epic Games Store doesn’t reveal the names of upcoming DLC or expansion packs.

When we first got word of the leaks, which include references to four different “expansions,” it seemed obvious that we’d learned the names of future Cyberpunk 2077 DLC. But in a statement to IGN (opens in new tab), CD Projekt confirms that the leaks “are not DLCs for Cyberpunk 2077.”

While it’s clear now that the list of names, which you’ll find in the below report, doesn’t give away the final names of upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 add-ons, it’s likely that they’re codenames or placeholders for the official titles. For that reason, you might be able to extrapolate from the leaks what might be coming in Cyberpunk 2077’s unannounced roadmap.

For example, the “Fashion Forward Expansion” could be referring to in-game wearables, whereas the “Body Shop Expansion” could be hinting at the addition of repair shops for your car.

Original story:

Cyberpunk 2077’s DLC plans have leaked thanks to information pulled from the Epic Games Store.

The information was reportedly pulled from the development end of the Epic Games Store by Reddit user PricklyAssassin (opens in new tab), and it looks like there is plenty of Cyberpunk 2077 DLC on the horizon if this leak is accurate. The post highlights nine different DLC packs and links to screenshots (opens in new tab) of the Epic Game Store development end which clearly show the upcoming DLC packs, along with an expansion pass that will contain two paid DLCs.

MORE Info on Upcoming Content from r/cyberpunkgame

That’s not the new information here, we knew that Cyberpunk 2077 was getting a load of free DLC. What is new is that we now know the names of the nine free DLC packs that are coming, which are:

  • Rippderdocs Expansion
  • Body Shops Expansion
  • Fashion Forward Expansion
  • Gangs of Night City
  • Body of Chrome
  • Rides of the Dark Future
  • The Relic
  • Neck Deep
  • Night City Expansion

PricklyAssassin goes on to give their thoughts on what each of these DLC packs might contain, but these are just speculations based on the titles and not based on any official information from CDPR. With that said, some of the titles do seem fairly self explanatory. The Rippderdocs Expansion will likely add new modding capabilities, while the Fashion Forward Expansion will probably add new outfits to the game. Other titles are more vague, such as The Relic. This refers to the chip containing Johnny Silverhand’s engram, but how that will bear out in the DLC is anyone’s guess.

We can also see placeholder prices for the two paid DLC packs, and the expansion pack that will contain both of these. Each DLC pack is currently set for $9.99 each, while the expansion pass will be $14.99. These prices may end up changing before launch though, and we still have no idea what will be in these packs, or how far off they are. Much of the Cyberpunk 2077 development team seems to still be dedicated to patches and bug fixes at the moment, and this, combined with the pandemic, could have easily led to delays in the DLC pipeline.

CDPR has made major strides towards fixing the bugs and issues with Cyberpunk 2077 in the past three months, with the recent Patch 1.2 fixing over 500 issues alone. In fact, this information was actually pulled from the Epic Games Store not long after the new patch went live, as PricklyAssassin noticed that CDPR had made some changes to the page.

If you’re looking to do a little digital digging of your own, why not check out our Cyberpunk 2077 hacking guide and see what info you can pull out of the system.

Cyberpunk 2077 mods are getting bigger and better all the time, now that PC players have had a few months to get to grips with what they can do to with the game, and the recent announcement that Cyberpunk 2077 now has official mod support from CD Projekt Red can only help improve things in the long term. As modders hone their skills, the complexity of their updates is increasing and going far beyond simple cosmetic tweaks.

That’s not to say there weren’t some impressive and useful mods for Cyberpunk 2077 available in the early days, however. Initial mods addressed issues such as changing V’s hairstyle, which was something that got requested pretty frequently by players frustrated by not having access to a hairdresser or barber shop, though the Cyberpunk 2077 mods are now moving on to address areas such as the minimap, vehicle handling, and even a third person camera option.

We’re here to help you find the best Cyberpunk 2077 mods, as well as explaining how to install each one on the PC version of CD Projekt Red’s game.

How to download the best Cyberpunk 2077 mods

Cyberpunk 2077

Firstly, you obviously want to make sure that Cyberpunk 2077 is installed on your PC, and that your copy of the game is updated to the latest version put out by CD Projekt Red. It’s important to remember that multiple patches and updates have been released for the game, so you’ll want to always be checking if there’s an update available before installing any mods.

Speaking of which, you can download Cyberpunk 2077 mods directly from the game page on NexusMods (opens in new tab). If you’re unfamiliar with the website, it’s used as a primary modding distribution hub for countless games, including CD Projekt Red’s last endeavour, The Witcher 3, which now has hundreds upon hundreds of mods over five years after it first launched.

There are several key mods you should download and install first, as they are used as a base to launch many of the other Cyberpunk 2077 mods available. The Cyber Engine Tweaks mod (opens in new tab) opens the scripting API for other mods, as well as offering performance improvements and bug fixes, while the CP77 Tools mod (opens in new tab) is a tool that supports command-line modding to get other add-ons running. If you’re planning on installing lots of mods then it’s worth considering installing the Cyberpunk 2077 Mod Manager (opens in new tab) too, as although it’s still in the early stages of development it should help you keep track of everything you add.

Below you can find our round up of the best Cyberpunk 2077 mods that we’ve found so far.

Better Minimap

Cyberpunk 2077

Requires CP77 Tools mod

Players have been crying out for improvements to the minimap to help them navigate around Night City, and the Better Minimap mod (opens in new tab) goes a long way to addressing these. You can make the minimap bigger, transparent, remove the border, or replace the map with just the compass, and there are four levels of zoom available.

There are some known issues with the minimap updating at more distant zoom levels, but it’s believed these are due to limitations of the game rather than the mod itself as the engine wasn’t build to display information from further away.

JB – TPP MOD WIP third person

Cyberpunk 2077 mods

(Image credit: CD Projekt Red / Jelle Bakker – MaximiliumM)

Requires Cyber Engine Tweaks mod

Another option that Cyberpunk 2077 players have been clamouring for is a third person camera view, so they can actually see the V character they’ve spent so much time modifying and outfitting. The JB – TPP MOD WIP third person mod (opens in new tab) does just that, allowing you to switch to third person perspective, cycle through different views, and zoom in or out to get the angle you desire. There’s also an option to revert to first person perspective when you draw a weapon, or remain in third person view.

Because the game wasn’t designed to have a third person camera view while on foot, using this mod does expose certain workarounds that were meant to stay hidden. Crouching can sometimes cause problems, and occasionally you may develop broad shoulders or your head will disappear, but that’s currently the price to pay so you can see V in their full glorious appearance.

Unlock NightCity

Cyberpunk 2077 mods

(Image credit: CD Projekt Red / 3nvy)

Requires Cyber Engine Tweaks mod

If you’re more interested in the role-playing side of Cyberpunk 2077, then this could be the exactly the mod you’re looking for. The Unlock NightCity mod (opens in new tab) allows you to access mission specific areas and other locked off locations at any time, so you can enjoy their beautiful interiors without distractions. So far you can access places such as Clouds, the Voodoo Boys Underground Base, and Delamain HQ, and the author is adding new locations as they discover them.

Cyberpunk Autonomous ReShade – True HDR

Cyberpunk 2077 mods

(Image credit: CD Projekt Red / Vanguard1776)

Now this one is a pretty essential mod, especially if you want to make Cyberpunk 2077 look as good as possible on PC – and why wouldn’t you? The Cyberpunk Autonomous ReShade mod (opens in new tab) reworks the textures and shading of the game to provide Cyberpunk 2077 players on PC with “true HDR,” so you can get the game looking stunning.

Better Vehicle Handling

Cyberpunk 2077

Another simple but highly effective mod for Cyberpunk 2077. Let’s not get things twisted: the game doesn’t exactly have fantastic vehicle handling. No matter what vehicle you’re driving, you’re liable to go flying off the road or accidentally drive onto the other side of the street when trying to corner.

These futuristic vehicles are difficult beasts to tame, and the Better Vehicle Handling mod (opens in new tab) tries to make the process a lot easier. It aims to make vehicle handling a “whole lot less frustrating,” and uses the extremely overpowered Kuzanagi motorbike flying off corners as a prime example.

Hair and Color Changer in Game

Cyberpunk 2077

If you’ve ever felt like changing V’s hairstyle while playing Cyberpunk 2077, then boy to do we have the perfect mod for you. The Hair and Color Changer in Game mod (opens in new tab) lets you change V’s hair at any point during the game, which is somewhat curiously absent from the base game.

The mod is actually really simple to use. All you need to do is download the mod, select the hairstyle of your current V, select the haircut that you want to change to, and then implement it in your game. It’s that simple! You can also change hair color, beard, beard color, eye color, skin color, and finger nails, all while in the game.

Draw Distance Boost

Cyberpunk 2077 mods

(Image credit: CD Projekt Red / sjbox)

Cyberpunk 2077 sometimes suffers from relatively low draw distances on PC and other platforms. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, it means the distance at which objects like buildings, people, and vehicles are rendered so you can see far off into the distance.

The Draw Distance Boost mod (opens in new tab) boosts the game’s draw distance so that Night City is fully rendered at further distances away from you. If you’ve ever seen a building pop into the game, for example, this mod eliminates this by rendering things like buildings much further away.

Alternate Crowd Behavior and other tweaks

Cyberpunk 2077 mods

(Image credit: CD Projekt Red / TemplarGFX)

If you’re feeling bored with the way NPCs around you are behaving, or are unhappy about how quickly they can disappear when you’re not paying attention to them, then this mod can help switch things up. The Alternate Crowd Behavior and other tweaks mod (opens in new tab) offers three different crowd settings for NPC despawning, which can either present a dynamic set of pedestrians that change frequently, or a stable set of NPCs that give consistency to an area but can build up over time if you stay too long.

There are also options to tweak the traffic, asset streaming, and general AI within the game, though at this point they are still listed as experimental. Be aware that any of these changes can potentially have a big hit on the FPS you’ll achieve due to additional calculations or items being rendered, so depending on how powerful your rig is you may need to explore the options to get decent performance up and running.
