The post 7-Eleven ad in Japan has fans theorizing that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe wave 2 could be here soon appeared first on Game News.
]]>A photo of the ad was shared by @PushDustIn (opens in new tab) on Twitter (thanks, Nintendo Life (opens in new tab)!) and contains information about the base game as well as its DLC – with only one out of six booster passes revealed.
The replies to the tweet point out (opens in new tab) that the poster instructs the 7-Eleven employees to take the poster down on July 17, 2022. Of course, this could mean nothing. But it could also mean that the poster will be out of date by that time, perhaps due to another booster pass being revealed around that time?
7-11 is advertising the course pack (note that it says you double the number of courses in Japanese, nothing about wave 2). I think we should see a reveal sooner than later. pic.twitter.com/qpRtTBiUdpJuly 9, 2022

Although this does feel like a little bit of a stretch, it’s worth noting that this wouldn’t be the first time it’s happened. Also spotted by @PushDustin (opens in new tab) a few of years ago, 7-Eleven in Japan also had an advertisement for Banjo-Kazooie joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Just like in this instance, Banjo’s ad was instructed to be taken down by September 15, 2019, and Banjo got added into the Nintendo fighter on September 4, 2019.
If you haven’t been keeping up with the latest on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, here’s what you’ve missed: it was revealed back in February that – instead of Mario Kart 9 like we were all hoping for – Nintendo’s fan-favourite racer will be getting 48 new tracks in the form of DLC. We’ve already had wave 1 (as of March 2022) which gave us classic courses such a Coconut Mall, Chocco Mountain, Sky Garden, and more.
The good news is, it’s actually really easy to get a hold of these new tracks as the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC is available as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. Which, if you’re also a fan of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Splatoon 2, and classic consoles such as the N64 and Sega Megadrive, is well worth the investment.
Wondering if the DLC is worth a go? Find out why the first wave of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass tracks has left me wanting more.

]]>The post Nintendo Switch Sports overview trailer shows more of the sports on offer in the upcoming game appeared first on Game News.
]]>The Wii Sports follow-up will have a number of sports for players to get involved in including volleyball, badminton, bowling, soccer, chambara, and tennis. In the new trailer, we got to see these sports in action as well as how the Nintendo Switch’s motion controls will come into play in the game.
For the likes of badminton and tennis, just like back in the Nintendo Wii days, players will be able to swing their Joy-con to launch the ball or shuttlecock across the court. According to the trailer, players will also be able to pull off more technical moves like drop shots and topspins with a combination of various swings and buttons.
For volleyball, chambara, and bowling, things are pretty much the same except the direction in which you swing your Joy Con controller can make all the difference. Things get a little more complicated with soccer though as players are encouraged to use both Joy Cons. There’s also the option to equip the Joy Con leg strap accessory for this sport to pull off intuitive kicking motions.
The final thing revealed in the Nintendo Switch Sports overview trailer is a brief look at how online connectivity functions in the game. According to the trailer, players can compete against up to three of their friends via online co-op. If you’d rather take things to the next level though, there is also the option to compete in the Pro League via random matchmaking.
Better start warming up now as Nintendo Switch Sports is set to release on April 29, 2022.
Wondering about the future of the series? Well, according to a recent datamine, more mini-games could be on the way.

]]>The post Babylons Fall goes gold ahead of March release date appeared first on Game News.
]]>Babylon’s Fall is scheduled to launch on PS4, PS5, and PC on March 3, but as we’ve come to accept over the last couple of years, nothing is certain until the game is in our hands. But thankfully, Platinum fans looking forward to the studio’s latest effort can rest assured that the game is ready for launch. As first spotted by Japanese publication GamesTalk (opens in new tab) (thanks Gematsu (opens in new tab)), Square Enix announced in a livestream (opens in new tab) that Babylon’s Fall has gone gold, which is developer speak for ‘it’s ready for live,’ basically.
We first saw Babylon’s Fall during its reveal at E3 2018, but it went quiet for a long while after that, finally reappearing at Square Enix’s E3 showing this year. It then resurfaced as a four-player, live-service, true-blue dungeon-crawler instead of the vaguely high fantasy hack-and-slasher it was originally billed as.
If you haven’t kept up with Babylon’s Fall much, the game puts you in the shoes of a customizable Sentinel. You’ll create a four-weapon loadout by choosing from five weapon types at launch (swords, hammers, bows, staffs, and shield), each with unique skills and abilities, and hack your way to the top of the tower of Babylon while collecting your spoils. Platinum is known for its hack-and-slash combat systems seen in games like Nier: Automata, Bayonetta, and The Wonderful 101, so if anything you can expect something similar in Babylon’s Fall to go with its own distinct visual style.

]]>The post Watch the Dead by Daylight Hellraiser trailer and start playing as Pinhead now appeared first on Game News.
]]>Pinhead is a new Killer, naturally, but the developers at Behaviour Interactive had to take a step back from their usual approach to translate Hellraiser’s horror to Dead by Daylight: he isn’t your typical slasher villain who goes lumbering after victims one by one. In fact, he barely moves at all. Animation director David Prenoveau explained the process of making Pinhead a killer who still felt true to his source material on the PlayStation Blog (opens in new tab).
“In DbD we have a basic set of mechanics that are common to all Killers, like picking victims up and tossing them onto hooks,” Prenoveau said. “For every single one of these we asked ourselves ‘how can we make sure this really feels like Pinhead?’ Our answer ended up being to use his chains and hooks as an interaction tool. As the player you control Pinhead’s chains and use them to manipulate Survivors in ways other Killers need to do by hand. We’re hoping this touch makes the player feel even more powerful when they’re playing as Pinhead!”
The post details the particulars of Pinhead’s playstyle: his main power Summons of Pain creates a gateway that can be used to summon forth a controllable chain, or just to scout areas of the map. In another nod to the film series, any match with Pinhead present will also have a puzzle box somewhere on the map: survivors can find and solve the Lament Configuration to postpone a deadly Chain Hunt, but picking it up may give Pinhead enough time to teleport directly to you and tear your soul apart. It’s just what he does.

The developers are teasing an in-game event “to coincide with the War for Wakanda Expansion that will add to the overall world building.” Aside from that, we know the expansion will also bring in a new Wakandan jungle environment to explore and embark on missions in, and a new outpost: The Golden City contains Shuri’s lab, Zawavari’s chambers, and the grand Wakandan War Room, so it should be a treat to check out for fans of the Marvel films and comics alike.
The expansion will introduce two new villains – including T’Challa’s nemesis Klaw – and new enemy types to fill out the ranks of the grunts. New Drop Zone and Threat Sector missions will give you more challenges to overcome and loot to collect, and the Birnin Zana outpost will give you a new place to catch your breath between outings.
While the War for Wakanda won’t begin until next month, Square Enix is inviting new players to do some Avenging for free with an all-access weekend that runs from today to Sunday, August 1 on PC, PlayStation and Stadia (a similar event for Xbox will come “in the coming months”). On top of letting you play through the vanilla campaign and all the post-launch updates, you’ll also get a 400% bonus to XP earned to help you catch up, as well as a 50% off discount on the in-game marketplace if you want to further kit out your favorite heroes. The game itself is also being discounted by 40% if you want to keep going after the free weekend ends.

]]>The post Battlefield 2042 will backfill its biggest modes with up to 64 bots at a time appeared first on Game News.
]]>EA confirmed that it will use bots to supplement player counts in its 128-player Conquest and Breakthrough modes when it revealed Battlefield 2042 earlier this month. The big question with bots is always how much of any given match you can expect them to compose, and EA has confirmed to The Verge (opens in new tab) that up to 64 bots will be able to play in those two modes at any given time, which translates to half of the potential player count. EA currently doesn’t have any plans to let players disable bot backfill.
Battlefield 2042 will prioritize placing players in games with other humans rather than bots when matchmaking conditions allow, and bots won’t be used at all for modes with smaller maximum player counts. EA has said it was particularly important to ensure players can get the full Battlefield experience at any time in 2042, since it doesn’t include a standard single-player campaign to fall back on when there aren’t as many players around.
With bots in mind, for those jumping into Battlefield 2042 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, servers will allow for 128 players. For those on PS4 and Xbox One, 64 players are allowed on a server. The game is set to release on October 22 later this year.
It’s also said that EA DICE is working on another, as yet unannounced mode in its LA studio. This will be unveiled at EA Play Live 2021 on July 22. Right now, we know that the game will have the squad-focused gameplay called Hazard Zone that is to be revealed some more at some point, while Conquest and Breakthrough will be remaining. This time around, however, due to Conquest’s large-scale maps, the maps have small-scale zones that seem to promise some high-intensity action.
Battlefield 2042’s multiplayer-focused experience has a number of features for us to get looking into, and no, Battle Royale is not planned, and it may not have skill-based matchmaking either. But it will have dangerous weather, penguins, and a new specialist system replacing the usual Squads system.
If you’re looking for a new TV and unsure what to go for, we’ve got you covered with our Prime Day TV deals guide ready for when Amazon’s big sale happens on June 21.

]]>The post Valheim update adds a temporary maypole and makes monsters more violent appeared first on Game News.
]]>The Valheim patch is available bringing the game to version 0.155.7 (opens in new tab) and mostly targeting AI issues. However, developer Iron Gate has also revealed that because it’s midsummer in Sweden, a buildable maypole has been temporarily added to the game so that players can celebrate.
There are also a bunch of other fixes, with the main portion of the update changing the enemy AI behaviors. Monsters will now become more aggressive, particularly when they’re unable to attack the player. They’ll focus their attacks on structures and other things in the area, making themselves somewhat more intimidating and giving the player more to manage. Additionally, when fighting bosses, they won’t run away from players anymore.
There’s also a Blob event that has been enabled and Greydwarfs can now throw better. Event triggers have been tweaked as well, the Wolf event only triggers after Bonemass has been killed, and Moder army can trigger in mountains are some of the examples given.
For fixes, SFX volume settings have been fixed and a save bug issue where world corruption could occur when shutting down has been patched up. Containers also won’t need to be clicked multiple times to open.
Valheim is a Viking-themed survival where players can craft their own camps and survive against the elements and monsters. Earlier this year, the game hit 1 million players after only a week in early access, and shortly after that, it set a new concurrent record on Steam and then topped itself again by hitting over 400,000 concurrent players.
The studio did have a roadmap laid out for future content but has changed things up a bit. Instead of releasing 4 updates, it now plans to release a Hearth & Home update later this year. This was detailed in an update earlier this month (opens in new tab) where the studio says that the influx of players has highlighted “a thousand new problems” and as such it says the “priority has been to make the current experience as stable as possible and this has meant new content has taken a backseat.”

]]>The post Aliens: Fireteam Elite release date set for August with a new trailer appeared first on Game News.
]]>The three-player co-op shooter, which was known as Alien: Fireteam when Alyssa Mercante went hands-on with it in March, is now set to be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S on August 24. The new trailer for the game shows off some of the eerie environments you’ll explore as you take on the role of a team of Colonial Marines – just like Hicks and company from the Aliens film, though hopefully your team fares better than his did.
While Fireteam Elite is very much meant to be an Aliens-inspired experience, the trailer proves that it’s taking some inspiration from the rest of the Alien universe, including the broader look at Engineer architecture and civilization we got in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. The aliens themselves have some new biodiversity as well: on top of the standard shiny black ones, there are glowing green ones, gnarly red ones, and even a white one with a bunch of tendrils where its head should be. Developer Cold Iron Studios is teasing that you’ll also go up against Weyland Yutani androids, who are presumably outside of their service warranty.
We also see some of the customization options you’ll be able to use to make your particular marine unique (and all the more upsetting to see impaled by an alien’s spear-like tail). If you want to make sure your space soldier is as kitted out as possible, you’ll want to get in a pre-order to secure your Hardened Marine Pack, which includes a you’re-just-too-bad red bandana, a chestburster emote, and more goodies.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite is definitely a co-op first game, but you will be able to play through in single-player with NPC squadmates if you prefer. Either way, you’ll have four in-game campaigns to play through, each expanding the story of the Alien universe 23 years after the events of the original trilogy.
Hopefully Aliens: Fireteam Elite earns a spot on our list of the best co-op games once it arrives in August.

]]>The post WarioWare: Get it Together has minigames themed around Animal Crossing, Ice Climbers, and more appeared first on Game News.
]]>When WarioWare: Get it Together was revealed last week as part of Nintendo’s blockbuster E3 Direct, it showcased a brief number of minigames. However, as NintendoLife (opens in new tab) has discovered in the video below, there are 11 total minigames that appear to be based around other Nintendo games, including Ice Climbers, The Legend of Zelda, and more.
It’s not exactly easy to spot these themed minigames, but NintendoLife has certainly had a good crack at it. As the video above showcases, there are plenty of lovely tributes found in WarioWare: Get it Together, in particular a game based around delivering a present from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and even a clue pointing to a Legend of Zelda-inspired game on WarioWare’s cover art.
If you missed the news from last week, WarioWare: Get it Together is bringing the chaotic action-packed game back for the Nintendo Switch audience later this year. It’ll be launching in just a few month’s time on September 10, so we’ve got plenty of time to browse any trailers and screenshots for clues as to additional minigames.
If you’re unfamiliar with the WarioWare saga in general, it’s a series of games that pits two or more players against each other in a slate of minigames. The minigames themselves are based around some pretty short timers, meant to determine the victor through a series of small challenges, including clearing out clouds, rocking a baby to sleep or waking it up, and other whacky antics.
Last week’s Nintendo E3 2021 Direct was a pretty blockbuster showcase for the company. Headlining the 40-minute presentation were the likes of Metroid Dread, the first new 2D Metroid game in 19 years, as well as a new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel, which teased a brand new Link as well as a release window of 2022. For more on Nintendo’s long-awaited Metroid revival, head over to our Metroid Dread interview for a detailed talk with producer Yoshio Sakamoto.

]]>The post Call of Duty Warzone TTK will increase in a future update appeared first on Game News.
]]>In the latest Call of Duty Warzone patch notes for season 4, Raven Software has confirmed that it will be making changes to weapons by balancing them. The way it intends to do this is by raising the average TTK, bringing it up by “approximately 60 to 100 milliseconds” it said in the patch notes (opens in new tab) (via Call of Duty News (opens in new tab)).
Raven Software said, “We want to enable more escapes from impossible situations, moments of finesse, epic outplays, and opportunities to flex exquisite marksmanship.” By increasing the TTK, players will either be capable of taking more hits while they’re in combat, or they’ll be dealing more shots on the enemy.
When the balance changes are implemented in a future update, it looks like we could see more conflicts lasting a touch longer. This announcement certainly seems to be a welcomed one by the community with many praising the developer for planning the changes.
The groundwork for this future update has already started with some adjustments to a range of weapons, such as the Groza and Milano 821 being increased in various areas, while Streetsweeper and CR-56 Amax have been decreased. The studio said that these changes will “not only increase the overall capacity for skill expression, but should also introduce some Weapons into viability that have not yet had a chance to shine.”
Warzone season 4 brings a wealth of new content, including a new mode called Ground Fall that brings sat-link stations to the Verdansk 84 map. There are motorcycles, and more planned as part of the game’s roadmap. Sadly, the update to debut Warzone season 4 appears to have reset console players settings so player’s that have specific adjustments may be required to reconfigure.
