The post Daniel Kaluuya will not be returning for Black Panther 2 appeared first on Game News.
]]>Rotten Tomatoes’ Jacqueline Coley broke the news on Twitter (opens in new tab), revealing that Kaluuya has not returned for the Marvel sequel due to scheduling conflicts with Jordan Peele’s upcoming film Nope. Kaluuya will star in the sci-fi horror film alongside Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun.
In the Black Panther sequel, Gurira is returning as Okoye, and Letitia Wright’s Shuri, Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia, Winston Duke’s M’Baku, Angela Bassett’s Ramonda, and Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross are also back. Newcomers include Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, AKA Ironheart, and Tenoch Huerta in a mystery role – speculation has focused on Atlantean prince Namor, but Huerta has poked fun at people who think pictures of him as the character have leaked.
The plot of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is pretty much entirely a mystery, but Freeman has teased that we should expect the unexpected. “Some of it was really – some of it’s very odd, and I think [director Ryan Coogler] could see by the reaction on my face some of the things he was saying… He kept sort of stopping, and going… He kept on saying, ‘Stay with me, but this is going to work.'”
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrives this November 11. Before then, She-Hulk will land on Disney Plus beginning this August 17. In the meantime, check out our ultimate guide to Marvel Phase 4 for everything else the MCU has in store for us.

]]>The post Tessa Thompson reveals the scene she fought to keep in Thor Love and Thunder appeared first on Game News.
]]>Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie in Thor: Love and Thunder, has revealed that she fought to keep one scene in particular in the final cut. In the movie, Luke Hemsworth and Matt Damon play members of a theatre troupe who put on shows in New Asgard about the events of previous Thor movies – both return from Thor: Ragnarok.
At one point, the actors approach Valkyrie after Gorr the God Butcher attacks New Asgard to ask about putting on another play covering the villain’s rampage, and that moment almost ended up cut from the film. “I loved it! These movies go through so many different edits, so things stay and go away. And typically, I just watch these movies at the premiere, but this time around, I actually watched a couple of the cuts because I found that process really interesting. I’m now producing more, so I really wanted to understand how the “sausage” is made,” Thompson told The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab).
“And so there was one cut where that bit went away and I was so sad, but then it came back and I was so happy. (Laughs.) I was like, “That has to be in the movie!” So I was very sad for a brief second when it wasn’t there, but yeah, that was so fun,” she continued. “Having them around to explore the importance of theater and storytelling, as expressed in Asgardian culture, I just loved that.”
While that scene eventually made it back into the movie, Natalie Portman, who plays Jane Foster – AKA the Mighty Thor – has revealed that a lot ended up on the cutting room floor. “There were whole sequences, planets, characters, and worlds that didn’t end up in the movie that were hilarious and amazing and [that] we spent a lot of time and energy on, and certainly the entire crew also designing and conceiving,” she commented.
At the moment, there are no confirmed plans for Thor’s return, but judging by the Love and Thunder post-credits scenes and that surprise cameo, we can probably expect a Thor 5 that covers those particular plot developments. Until then, you can catch up on the MCU on Disney Plus, and for much more on the movie, you can check out our spoilery guides on:

]]>The post Marvel fans are divided over Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder appeared first on Game News.
]]>Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher wreaks havoc on the MCU’s deities in Thor: Love and Thunder, wielding his sinister Necrosword to take revenge against all gods after the death of his daughter. Director Taika Waititi hyped the bad guy up before the film arrived, teasing he tested the best of any Marvel villain in test screenings – and with the movie finally here, fans finally get to see the god-slayer in action.
“Thor: Love and Thunder was fun and I enjoyed it overall,” says one person (opens in new tab). “The biggest highlight for me was Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher. He was mesmerizing. He’s got some really kickass and creepy scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed every second he was on screen.”
Another person (opens in new tab) thinks Gorr is a highlight: “Thor Love and Thunder was really good, a lot more emotional than I was expecting and Gorr is a really good villain, stole every scene he was in. Not as good as Ragnarok, but pretty close there.”
“Just when I thought I couldn’t be more amazed with how incredible Christian Bale is, he absolutely nails it as Gorr The God Butcher in Thor: Love & Thunder. He’s the GOAT, people,” says another fan (opens in new tab).
One person (opens in new tab) is lukewarm on the movie, but has high praise for Gorr. “Thor: Love and Thunder was not bad. Typical marvel movie, fun but nothing groundbreaking. Marvel is falling off pretty hard with the new phase but Gorr was amazing! He was creepy and well written and portrayed. Best MCU villain since Thanos”
Another fan (opens in new tab) liked the villain, but wished he had more screen time: “I had a lot fun watching this, the comedy and emotion are well-balanced. I love the chemistry between the characters, especially Thor and Jane. Gorr is terrifying and menacing, but I wish we could have seen him more throughout the movie.”
One person on Reddit (opens in new tab) feels similarly: “Christian Bale was great but feels so underutilized. For a God butcher, there wasn’t much butchering.”
“Christian Bale deserved way better screen time. He was absolutely brilliant as Gorr but his character was wasted in Love And Thunder man wtf,” thinks another person (opens in new tab).
“Gorr was the only thing I really liked about Thor Love and Thunder… he needed WAYYY more screen time!” agrees one Twitter user (opens in new tab).
There’s no word yet on if the God of Thunder will be returning for a potential Thor 5, but considering Love and Thunder’s post-credits scenes, we can safely assume there’s more story to tell. The MCU currently continues on Disney Plus with Ms. Marvel, while the next Marvel movie to hit the big screen is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which lands this November 11. ]]>The post When does Thor Love and Thunder take place on the Marvel timeline? appeared first on Game News.
]]>The film sees the return of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, now the Mighty Thor, who teams up with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, and Taika Waititi’s Korg to go up against Christian Bale’s terrifying Gorr the God Butcher, who, as the name suggests, intends to kill all of the MCU’s gods.
The most recent Marvel releases, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Ms. Marvel, are both set in the same year. So how does Thor: Love and Thunder fit into the chronology? We explain all below… and don’t worry, the following is completely spoiler free, so you can read on even if you haven’t had a chance to catch the movie just yet.
Director Taika Waititi previously indicated that the movie takes place four years after Avengers: Endgame, which places it in 2027 – for context, Doctor Strange 2 and Ms. Marvel both take place in 2025 (remember, MCU time is a bit ahead of our own due to the Blip). That seems a little too far ahead, then, and potentially a simple misstep from the director as the movie itself offers more clues.
For one thing, Thor says exactly how long it’s been since he and Jane last saw each other: eight years, seven months, and six days. We don’t know exactly when the God of Thunder and the astrophysicist parted ways, but the breakup is referenced in Thor: Ragnarok, which is set in 2017/2018.
Eight years on from then puts Love and Thunder at around 2026, which is just a little further on than Multiverse of Madness and Ms. Marvel. So, depending on when Thor and Jane actually called it quits, the movie could be set anytime from 2025 to 2027, though it’s probably safe to pin it between 2025-2026. Narrowing the window down any further is pretty much impossible, because the time of year isn’t very obvious in the movie and there aren’t any references to the events of other recent MCU films.
Things could become clearer once Guardians of the Galaxy 3 arrives, as those characters appear in Love and Thunder. Until then, though, we’ll have to stick with the broader timeframe of somewhere between 2025 and 2026.

]]>“To everyone showing up to @Minions in suits: we see you and we love you,” Universal tweeted (opens in new tab), though that love isn’t being felt by everyone. In fact, some cinemas in the UK have banned the trend entirely – Odeon reportedly displayed a sign warning suited viewers that they’d be turned away from the film “due to recent disturbances,” with a spokesperson for the chain telling Indy100 (opens in new tab): “Due to a small number of incidents in our cinemas over the weekend we have had to restrict access in some circumstances.” Check out the sign, and some videos of the GentleMinions trend, below.

The film had a record breaking opening weekend, grossing over $200 million worldwide, though how much of that came from teenagers in suits is a mystery. Minions 2, following on from 2015’s Minions – a prequel spin-off of the Despicable Me franchise – is an origin story for Steve Carell’s Gru, showing how he came to be in charge of his legion of tiny yellow henchmen. The first Minions film was a huge success, grossing over $1 billion. It remains to be seen if the sequel can follow in its footsteps, though, as only two films in the pandemic era have crossed the billion dollar mark at the box office so far: Spider-Man: No Way Home and Top Gun: Maverick.

]]>The post Kevin Feige had the idea to turn Mr. Fantastic into spaghetti in Doctor Strange 2 appeared first on Game News.
]]>“At one point, Wanda turns Reed Richards (John Krasinski) into all these shredded, stringy forms,” Industrial Light & Magic VFX supervisor Julian Foddy told Befores & Afters (opens in new tab). “The starting point there was some reference that was passed to us by [VFX supervisor] Janek Sirrs directly from Kevin Feige. It was someone passing a lump of modeling clay or Play-doh through a garlic press. Janek also had some reference of the Play-doh ‘Barber Shop’ toy, which was a little figure with holes in the head and you’d turn a handle and the Play-doh would come out. That was the kind of look we were going for.”
Foddy added that some artistic license was taken with the scene to avoid things getting too gory. “Making it feel like organic material and getting the right amount of flex and balance to the strings, as they come off, was quite a technical challenge,” he said. “There were cheats, because if you were to actually shred a real human being in such a way, there would be an awful lot of flesh and blood. Of course, this is a Marvel movie and we don’t want to be too gruesome.”
Krasinski was a popular fancast for the role of Mr. Fantastic before the film, though it seems he may not be continuing on in the MCU in the Fantastic Four movie, with his cameo instead meant as a shout-out to fans. “It’s so funny that [Feige] cast John because the fans had a dream of who the perfect Reed Richards would be,” director Sam Raimi said in the film’s audio commentary, adding: “And because this is an alternate universe, I think Kevin said, ‘Let’s make that dream come true.'”

]]>The post The Black Phone director Scott Derrickson reveals a last-minute change to the film appeared first on Game News.
]]>Still here? Then you’ve seen the horror movie, and you’ll know that, towards the end, Finney sees the ghost of Robin (Miguel Cazarez Mora), who is one of the Grabber’s previous victims. Robin then helps Finney escape from the basement.
“In the script, Robin wasn’t in the room. It was just a phone call,” Derrickson told The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab). “A day or two before we shot that … it suddenly hit me out of nowhere. I was like, ‘Oh, the audience wants to see that kid again. We got to see him again. It’s not going feel right if we don’t see him again.’ I was like, ‘Where’s that kid?’ and they were like, ‘We just flew him home.’ I was like, ‘Get him back. You got to fly him back.'”
The director also elaborated on how the scene came together, revealing he came up with ideas on the spot about how to stage the scene while alone on set. “I end up doing it all in one shot,” he explained. “I think a good director always has an antenna up trying to hear what this movie really wants to be. If you do that, you can sometimes make decisions that are bigger than you.”

]]>“I mean, I have a four-hour version, actually,” he told RadioTimes.com (opens in new tab). “I do. But you have to bring it down to 2 hours 30.”
Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and The Dead Don’t Die actor Austin Butler plays the legendary musician, while Tom Hanks is his manager Colonel Tom Parker and Olivia DeJonge plays Elvis’ wife, Priscilla Presley. The movie will tell the story of Presley’s life through his complicated relationship with Parker, spanning 20 years from his childhood to his rise to fame.
As for what he had to cut out of the movie’s final cut, Lurhmann said: “I would have liked to lean into some of the other things more – there’s so much more. I mean, there’s lots of stuff that I shot like the relationship with the band, I had to pare [that] down – and it’s so interesting how the Colonel gets rid of them.”
He added: “The relationship with his first girlfriend, Dixie, you know. And later on how… once he’s caught in a trap, and he’s discombobulated and doesn’t understand… someone who’s got such a hole in his heart like Elvis constantly looking and searching for love and finding it on stage but nowhere else.”
This is Lurhmann’s first time in the director’s chair since 2013’s The Great Gatsby, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire. His other movies include Strictly Ballroom, Romeo + Juliet, and Moulin Rouge!. His last project was the Netflix show The Get Down, but that was shelved after season 2
Elvis arrives on the big screen on June 24 – for more on the movie, check out our interview with Austin Butler.

]]>The post Lightyear post-credits scenes: how many are there? Do they set up a sequel? appeared first on Game News.
]]>Below, we explain just how many extra scenes there are (and what’s in them) right here, so if you’re currently seated in the theater, you can check out our spoiler-free section below for the essentials. If you’ve seen the movie, scroll down further for our spoilery breakdown of the scenes… and whether they might set up a sequel.
So, zip up your spacesuit and get ready to blast off with our Lightyear post-credits scene guide below. To infinity…
There are no less than three Lightyear post-credits scenes, so make sure you don’t leave the theater till the very last possible moment.
The first scene comes in the mid-credits, after the stylized sequence featuring the lead actors’ names. Then, wait until the very end of the rest of the credits for the next scene. The final stinger comes after the Pixar logo plays – that’s the lamp bouncing over the letters – and after that, you’re free to go.
It’s worth noting, though, that the first two scenes are quick jokes, while the final scene actually has some story significance – so stay seated till the very end if you want to see everything important.

The first post-credits scene is a funny callback to earlier in the movie. Commander Burnside sits in his office when a large bug flies right into the laser shield around the Turnip spaceship and the rest of the community. He chuckles to himself and comments “laser shield.”
Cast your minds back, and you’ll remember that Burnside’s plan for dealing with being stranded in a hostile environment was building this very shield around the people stuck on the planet. He tried to put a stop to Buzz’s repeated missions to reach hyperspeed in favor of staying put inside the safety of the laser.
The second post-credits scene is another quick gag. The robot D.E.R.I.C. is still standing in front of the map trying to figure out the right directions – the poor thing has been there since the earlier scene in the movie, when the directionally-challenged machine couldn’t tell the team which way to go.
The third and final post-credits scene is the big one. Earlier in the movie, Buzz’s showdown with Zurg ended with an explosion that seemingly destroyed the evildoer, or at least left him stranded in space inside his robot suit. That seemed to be the end of Zurg, but this last stinger shows the glowing red eyes of the suit powering up again. Looks like the villain could be back for round two, should a sequel happen… and, considering the film ends with Buzz and his new friends forming a special Space Ranger squad of their own, a second movie certainly seems on the cards.
Lightyear is in theaters now. For much more on the movie, check out our interviews with the cast and filmmakers and astronaut Tim Peake, as well as producer Galyn Susman on reinventing Buzz’s catchphrase.

]]>The post Thor Love and Thunder is rated PG-13 – for partial nudity appeared first on Game News.
]]>Per FilmRatings.com (opens in new tab), the movie is rated PG-13 for “intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, language, some suggestive material and partial nudity.”
From the trailer, we can assume the partial nudity is the moment Russell Crowe’s Zeus accidentally “flicks” off all of Thor’s clothes (which also reveals Thor has a strange tribute to his brother Loki tattooed on his back). As for the sci-fi violence, action, and language, that’s all standard Marvel fare.
The film sees the return of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, but this time she’s wielding Mjolnir as Mighty Thor. The first clip released from the movie shows her in action, with Thor apparently meeting her again for the first time since their break-up – and stunned to see her transformation into a hero.
Love and Thunder also features the Guardians of the Galaxy, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, and Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher – who is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s best villains yet. In fact, according to director Taika Waititi, Gorr has had the best reaction of any villain in test screenings.
“I’d say he’s the most sympathetic villain they’ve had,” Waititi commented. “He’s also tested the highest out of any villain that Marvel’s had.” From the trailers, Gorr certainly looks to be a sinister threat indeed, so Thor has his work cut out for him.
Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in theaters this July 7. In the meantime, check out our ultimate guide to Marvel Phase 4 for everything else coming soon – and catch up on the MCU on Disney Plus.
